Four games, four losses.Not even the most pessimistic of fans could have predicted this start. After four weeks, the Redbirds are the only team in the league without a win. We’re 0-3 at home, where we’ve protected the nest in recent years, and we’ve scored a piddling 37 points total—that’s right, less than 10 points per game.Shameful. Inexcusable. Indefensible.It’s hard to fathom how we wound up here, especially considering that we had the ball on 1st and 10 at the Seattle 31 with 2:59 to play and the Seahawks down to one timeout. All we had to do was get a single first down and we could grind down the clock and kick a chip shot FG to win the game.Instead, we鈥?did not do that.Like last week, some poor play on the field was compounded by some seriously boneheaded coaching decisions, and the crowd at State Farm Field was let down once again. Let’s run through the most impactful factors/moments that led to the loss, figure out who’s to blame, and see if there’s any hope moving forward.Offensive Run DefenseSunday had a chance to be a get-right game for the Redbirds run defense. Seattle’s O-line woes are well documented, their starting RB Chris Carson was a late scratch, and their 1st-round rookie Rashaad Penny (brother of Elijhaa) hasn’t done much. Enter third-stringer Mike Davis Pat Tillman Jersey Limited , who proceeded to run for 101 yards and 2 TDs on 21 carries. Adding in contributions from Penny and Russell Wilson, the Seahawks put up 171 yards on 34 carries (5.0 YPC). The Cardinals are now 31st in the league in rushing defense—after finishing 6th last season.Assigning the Blame: The Cardinals have talent in the front seven—Cory Peters has been a rock, and the team has spent recent 1st-round picks on the likes of Robert Nkemdiche, Deone Bucannon, and Haason Reddick. Talent isn’t the problem—it’s scheme. These are 3-4 players trying to adjust to the Carolina 4-3 (when we’re not in nickel, that is) of Steve Wilks and Al Holcomb. The scheme obviously isn’t working with the personnel we have, so it’s on the coaches to adapt. And they simply haven’t thus far.Where to Go from Here: Wilks and Holcomb need to adjust their scheme to the talent of the players of the roster. Consider moving Bucannon back to a hybrid safety role, let Reddick rush the passer more (he had a sack on Sunday), and maybe stop playing so much nickel on obvious rushing downs.A Bad Case of the DropsIt wasn’t all bad news for the Redbirds on Sunday, as rookie QB Josh Rosen passed the eye test and earned strong reviews for his debut start. His numbers were somewhat pedestrian—15/27, 180 yards, and 1 TD—but they could have been much better if it weren’t for all the drops. Stalwart Cardinals writer Darren Urban estimated that Rosen’s numbers would have been about 20/27, 261 yards, and 2 TDs if Larry Fitzgerald(!), Christian Kirk, J.J. Nelson, and Ricky Seals-Jones had held onto several catchable balls. (Plus there was the near-TD by Chad Williams where he was just unable to get a second foot down on the sideline.) The Redbirds WR room has been a known weak spot, and they let the team down big-time on Sunday, costing us precious yardage and, potentially, points.Assigning the Blame: It’s easy to blame the players on the field—yes, even Fitz—but GM Steve Keim deserves a ton of blame for not doing more to augment the position during the offseason—or even during the season. (Rishard Matthews is available, after all.) Plus, it’s worth pointing out that on a day where J.J. Nelson was doing this for the Cardinals, John Brown was doing this for the Ravens.Where to Go from Here: J.J. Nelson probably needs to be cut at this point. Keim needs to do what many of us who play fantasy football do on Sunday mornings—scour the free agent list for a WR and hope they can produce.Kicker WoesIt seems like points are always at a premium in Cardinals/Seahawks games, and Sunday was no exception. You can’t have your kicker miss two FGs in these kinds of games and expect to win. Granted, neither of them were gimmes (45 and 50 yards), but didn’t we stick with Dawson because he’s a steady veteran? He didn’t play like one on Sunday.Assigning the Blame: Obviously, Dawson should be expected to hit the potential game-winning 45-yarder, but it shouldn’t have been that long of a kick http://www.arizonacardinalsteamonline.com/pat-tillman-jersey , which is firmly the coaching staff’s fault (more on that below). But you can also argue that Dawson shouldn’t have been kicking in the first place. It doubly hurts knowing that preseason star Matt McCrane hit a game-winner for the Raiders later Sunday afternoon. Yet another Steve Keim decision that didn’t work out.Where to Go from Here: Dawson probably needs to go too. He just doesn’t have the leg strength/accuracy required of an NFL kicker anymore. This was obvious even in the preseason. Keim needs to find a stopgap replacement for the rest of the season and then address the position in the offseason.Another Questionable 3rd-Down RunSimply put, the coaching staff completely bungled the endgame on Sunday. As I said above, we just needed to gain one first down on our final possession. That would have accomplished two things: 1) it would’ve made the would-be game-winning FG much easier, and 2) it would’ve let us drain most of the clock down to prevent Russell Wilson from doing exactly what he did—march down the field for the win if we missed the kick.It started with that 1st and 10 with 2:59 left. We got a Mike McCoy special: unimaginative run into the pile. Then on 2nd and 8? You guessed it—another unimaginative run into the pile. But the worst playcall came after the two-minute warning—just like it did last week. With all that time to call the perfect play—remembering again that we had to have a first down—we got鈥?yep, another unimaginative run into the pile. At least it was David Johnson getting stuffed this time. Small consolation.Keep in mind that Rosen was 4/5 for 39 yards on the drive up until that point. If you can trust your rookie QB enough to put him into a tight game in the 4th quarter last week, you can trust him enough to put the ball in his hands in a tight game in the 4th quarter this week, right? One completion and you can drain the clock down and kick a 35-39 yard FG (instead of 45) to win.Instead鈥?unimaginative run into the pile, Russell Wilson gets two minutes to gain 30 yards, and Sea Bass kicks the game-winner. Ugh.Assigning the Blame: Mike McCoy makes the offensive playcalls, but Steve Wilks says he can “veto or confirm” any playcall. However the decision to run it up the middle on 3rd and 6 at the Seattle 27 was made, it was a lousy decision and the buck stops with the man in charge—Steve Wilks. Whether he confirmed McCoy’s call of the run or just declined to veto it doesn’t matter. It was the wrong call and it cost us the game. At this point, I wish he’d just veto Mike McCoy entirely, to be honest.Where to Go from Here: Fire. Mike. McCoy. I’m gonna keep saying it until it happens.Final ThoughtsSunday’s loss was the result of several of our players being put in a position to fail by our GM/coaching staff, and the one player who could have saved the game—Josh Rosen—not being given the chance to do so. It’s that simple.It’s not just the 0-4 start, but the way it has happened—these last two weeks especially—that has many Cardinals fans wondering if we have the right leadership on the sidelines and in the front office. But Steve Keim just signed an extension, and Steve Wilks and his staff are in their first year on the job, so we may be stuck with them for a while.They, like our players, need to respond in the right way to this adversity. Before the Bears game, I wrote about how the Cardinals have been plagued by passivity lately. That proved true against the Seahawks with the way known weaknesses (WR, LB, K) came back to bite us and the way the coaching staff screwed up the endgame with overly conservative decisions.We’ll learn a lot about our leadership by the way they respond. If McCoy, Nelson, and Dawson continue to have jobs, if we don’t try to bring in reinforcements, if we continue to struggle to score points and stop the run, if we continue to be passive鈥?we’ll have learned that these are not the men to lead our franchise.But if we do something to try to change our fortunes—even if it just amounts to rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic—I think most Cardinals fans would feel a little bit better about the direction of our team. Cold comfort to be sure, but better than the hot air these guys have been blowing so far.

Sam Bradford is averaging four yards per pass, which is worst among starting quarterbacks. He does not throw the ball down field much and a lot of his passes are short and behind the line of scrimmage.David Johnson should be the playmaker of the offense but he was limited to only 27 touches in the shutout loss. The team has been penalized a total of 19 times this season, which is tied for sixth-most in the NFL. The mastermind behind this atrocious offense is Mike McCoy. One too many times he would call run plays on back-to-back long downs. That won’t get the team anywhere. There is a reason why he was fired as the Chargers head coach and as the Broncos offensive coordinator. His plays are too conservative and nothing in his playbook so far has fooled a defense. The Cardinals’ defense definitely stepped up against the Rams’ run game, limiting Todd Gurley to 42 yards on 19 carries. Unfortunately they allowed him to rush for three touchdowns. The defensive line needs to generate more pressure on the quarterback. Corey Peters and Robert Nkemdiche were okay at stuffing the run but they generated very little to no pressure. Benson Mayowa had a big game with two sacks but we need to see this kind of performance from him on a consistent basis. When there is very little pressure on the quarterback, opposing offenses are bound to make big plays. Jamar Taylor needs step up his game as the number two cornerback. We will probably see a lot more Bene Benwikere very soon. Deone Bucannon and Haason Reddick were limited to nickel packages Black Andre Smith Jersey , and the run defense was a whole lot better as a result. But the pass defense wasn’t much better, even with the usual good performances by Patrick Peterson.If Steve Wilks is truly evaluating the entire team, there are glaring problems that he needs to address immediately and it starts with the coaching staff. Is Mike McCoy the problem? Is Al Holcomb not ready to be the defensive coordinator? I won’t go as far as saying that hiring Wilks was a mistake but he needs to look at the big picture and do what is best for this team right now.Next they will have to look at the players. Is it time to start Josh Rosen in place of the struggling Sam Bradford? What plays can be changed or taken out to better utilize David Johnson’s skill set? Is it time to look at free agents and actually consider all of the options available?Personally, I have never seen an offense as bad as the Cardinals this season. They literally can’t do anything right.There is no denying the fact that the Arizona Cardinals are the worst team in the NFL and have been outscored 58-6.Accountability and taking advantage of the opportunities is key. Nelson and Christian Kirk.Kirk will be returning punts behind Arizona’s newly upgraded special teams unit and with Larry Fitzgerald manning the slot, that means that Williams might see Josh Norman line up on him.Which isn’t good considering that the Redskins in 2017 didn’t allow a ton of points to WR’s.Sit Williams this week until he can prove himself in the offense on a regular basis.Sleeper Pick: Both DefensesThe Cardinals looked outstanding on defense in taking the ball away and getting pressure with Chandler Jones and Robert Nkemdiche in the preseason.The ‘Skins also looked to have a dominant defensive line.Both teams are a bit unstable in protection on the offensive line, meaning there’s potential for a field day for one or either team.I’d lean Washington over Arizona given the mobility of Alex Smith vs. Sam Bradford for right now but if the Arizona defense can keep up the turnover pace they showed in the preseason it’s going to have potential to get a ton of points there as well.Tweet your fantasy questions to @blakemurphy7 on Twitter. The Arizona Cardinals sit at 0-3 after their 16-14 defeat to the Chicago Bears.It was a completely predictable result based on what Sam Bradford and the offense had shown through two games.Despite jumping out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter over the Bears, the Cardinals offense was mostly stagnant.It seemed like the time was ripe after the first half to make the move to Josh Rosen Youth David Johnson Jersey , but it was the first signs of any offensive success, the 14 points, for the Cardinals in 2018, so not making the move was fine.Well, the offense continued to put the defense in bad positions and eventually, it caught up to them.After the third Sam Bradford turnover, the Bears held a 16-14 lead.It seemed hopeless.And, maybe that’s because with this coaching staff of the Arizona Cardinals, it is.This is not to say Steve Wilks and Al Holcomb cannot grow into their respective positions. We saw massive improvements defensively today, with Robert Nkemdiche continuing to grow into the player they drafted in the first round.However Larry Fitzgerald Jersey , with the defense, the continued play of Gerald Hodges and Tre Boston over their young linebackers in Haason Reddick and Deone Bucannon, brings to surface their decision making. It also brings up whether or not this is the staff to coach up young players at linebacker such as Bucannon and Reddick, or whether or not the Cardinals will be drafting another linebacker prospect early.The other question you have for Wilks is... why then and there for Josh Rosen?Sure Sam Bradford is not going to win you that game, but putting Rosen in at that juncture seems like an impossible situation for a rookie to get his first live NFL action. Of course, Wilks, like the rest of us had seen enough of Bradford at that point, but with four minutes to go, it just didn’t make much sense.The one indefensible coaching decision and person who doesn’t need to be in this coaching staff any longer is Mike McCoy.McCoy’s lack of ability as a play caller has been discussed more than anything non-Sam Bradford related on this site, and it reared its ugly head again in the Cardinals loss to the Bears.However Authentic Patrick Peterson Jersey , it was his decision to leave David Johnson on the sidelines, and go with running back Chase Edmonds on the pivotal third and two play coming off the two minute warning.It went for a three yard loss and of course Rosen would throw an interception on the next play and it was academic after that.The call to Edmonds is what it is, the execution was poor from the offensive line. However, not having Johnson on the field, to be something the Bears have to think about, is what is completely inexcusable and in the end should be one of the last decisions McCoy gets to make in Arizona.Call it an overreaction, but McCoy should not have much to do with Rosen’s development and he should be gone moving forward.I’m not ready to call it on Steve Wilks, but the longer McCoy is on the staff, the harder it will be to defend him.

Just crazy to think Oakland landed the third best prospect at the 140th pick. That is serious value. Value so high that I did just think of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Obviously that is unjust since Brady is arguably the GOAT, but I did think about it for a second. And yes, that is just all pre-draft hype, but Hurst has lived up to the expectations this season. While Hurst’s stats don’t jump out at you, with just two sacks and one forced fumble, he has been a menace constantly forcing pressure up the middle Cheap Reggie Nelson Jersey , batting balls at the line of scrimmage, and helping in the run game. For perspective, he is currently the 14th highest rated interior defender in the entire league according to PFF. Grady Jarret and Ndamukong Suh are the two players directly above him. Not bad company at all. Hurst also has the fourth-highest grade among any rookie defender behind Derwin James, Leighton Vander Esch, and Da’Shawn Hand. Esch and James were both first-round selections while Hand was a steal in the fourth round. Not only has Hurst’s great play been fun to watch, it could easily impact the Raiders’ future in next year’s draft. With PJ Hall and Hurst recently taken, Oakland might have the ability to pass on possible number one pick Ed Oliver. I am not sure if Oakland will only look to target veterans at the position, a mix, or just young guys because the team is obviously rebuilding but Gruden likes to get old at every position. As such, here are my three targets that the Raiders should go after in free agency in order of interest.Frank ClarkClark is having one of his best seasons yet with 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles just eight games into the season.Oakland fans have seen how Clark can tear apart a game plan with his 2.5 sacks against Derek Carr and the offense. More than that Gabe Jackson Jersey , Clark is just 25 years old and has played in at least 15 games in each of his first three seasons. While it is unlikely that Seattle would let Clark slip through its fingers, he would be an ideal pass rusher to land considering his production, availability and age. Clark could be better against the run so he probably won’t garner elite-level pass rusher money and instead be around the $15 million range which is completely affordable without Mack on the roster. Jadeveon ClowneyIt would be ironic if the Raiders ended up with Clowney. Remember, Clowney went number one in the same draft as Mack who went number five. And everyone knows which player turned out better. However, Clowney is no slouch when on the field. He has had better luck staying healthy recently playing in all but three games over the past 2.5 seasons. With the recent availability, Clowney is on pace to have his first double-digit sack season and is on an upwards trend. In addition, Clowney is a stout run defender, unlike Clark, and would provide a well-rounded presence on the edge that is badly needed on the Oakland defense. It is possible that Clowney will see a bidding war on the open market for his services. That could slightly inflate his price, but the Raiders can’t be too picky. They need talent and Clowney is a great/young one. Aaron Lynch There are still others out there that would be intriguing additions like Fowler Cheap Derek Carr Jersey , Brandon Graham, Ansah and Lawrence, but Lynch could be a nice number two that could come at more of a bargain than the other names. Lynch is great against the run but also provides pressure on the edge. He isn’t a dominant pass rusher, just three sacks through eight games, but he will set the edge and can be a good robin to a batman. Furthermore, the Chicago defense has a lot of great players already, including Mack, which might make it hard for them to keep someone like Lynch. Lynch would be an under-the-radar signing, but he is only 25 years old and is an all around player. It wouldn’t be great if Lynch was the only edge defender signed, but if Oakland adds him while drafting/signing another big name Rodney Hudson Jersey , it would be an intelligent decision. It is great that there will be a plethora of talent at the position to go after in March, but does it really matter? Hurst recorded the sack and Arden Key recorded two hits on the qb. Sadly once the Broncos went to max protect the pass rush ceased and Keenum was able to lead his team to victory.3. Block Von Miller: YepTruth be told, with the exception of the strip sack of Carr which was overturned because of a defensive holding call, Tom Cable and the offensive line did a fantastic job of neutralizing not only Miller but Bradley Chubb as well. Throughout the offseason fans have been hard on rookie Kolton Miller, but he hasn’t been mentioned hardly at all during games which is an excellent sign that he is doing his job well. 4. With a couple more first downs they could have ended the game emerging victorious and holding back the Broncos.5. Raiders don’t beat themselves: YepIn terms of penalties the Raiders had a much better and a much cleaner game in terms of penalties. This was a major improvement for them as they were shooting themselves in the foot previous week against the Rams.Final thoughtsAnother winnable game slipped through the fingers of the Raiders as a blocked extra point was the margin for the Broncos victory. Carr was sensational but not perfect, while both he and Amari Cooper appeared to be much more in sync, Carr missed an opportunity to get Cooper his first TD of the season instead of opting for a field goal. The Raiders are going to need to solve their “conditioning” issue on defense in order to preserve leads and victories. Once again the Raiders dominated nearly all of the stats except for points. There were many more good signs than bad, and it is a matter of time before they get their first win of the season. With Miami and Cleveland coming up in weeks three and four respectively they can get back to .500 early and re-enter the hunt for the AFC West.

The Elite First StepHaving grown up on Atlanta Falcons, I can tell you a guy like John Abraham had a truly impressive first step. Jamaal Anderson was always a step behind. That first step can get the rusher ahead of the tackle. It is far from the only move needed to become an elite pass rusher, but that quick first step, a la Dwight Freeney Authentic Julio Jones Jersey , is not coachable. If you’re slow off the snap, you probably aren’t destined for greatness.Beasley has that first step. His athleticism has never been in question: Beasley “blows the doors off” the NFL combine not too long ago in 2015. That should not happen.It’s not really clear what happened with Beasley.It’s like he’s regressed. He lacks not only the pass rush moves, but the killer instinct we see in his counterpart. Takkarist McKinley totaled 8 sacks in his rookie season, including the playoffs. Beasley? 6. In two games in 2018, Takk has 2, and Beasley has 0. That’s a bad look when McKinley is four years younger, and typically lined up next to the defensive tackles that aren’t Grady Jarrett.Atlanta’s Top Pass Rusher is TakkFor a lack of a better or clearer description, McKinley plays angry. We saw that attitude against the Panthers when a small skirmish broke out between teams: McKinley jumped in ready to back up his teammates. When the team desperately needs to get to the quarterback, McKinley is way more likely to be there. It’s disappointing for a 2016 Pro Bowl, All Pro, and NFL sack leader. He finished 2016 with 0 sacks in his last four games, including the playoffs and the Super Bowl. I can’t believe it’s come to this, but Brooks Reed needs to see more snaps.Beasley’s FutureIt’s not clear what is in store for Beasley. Quinn suggested a return to defensive end would improve his numbers. Already entering the Carolina game with a ramshackle defense, Damontae Kazee’s ejection left the Falcons with few options to replace him on the field effectively. He’s not great, but he’s not nearly as bad as he was at RG last year, and he did have an excellent game against the Panthers. Brandon Fusco has been solid at right guard as well. This unit has faced some fierce competition the last couple of weeks, so there’s reason to believe they will settle in and help this offense stay on track.The Bengals have some good players on their defensive line. Geno Atkins is still one of the best defensive tackles in the league and could be a problem for the Falcons line up the middle. Second year tackle Andrew Billings is off to a good start this year as well. Carlos Dunlap is a good player who has consistently played at a high level through his career. Jordan Willis looked really good as a rookie, but has been quiet so far in 2018. DT Ryan Glasgow can also do a great job of shutting down the run. Carl Lawson also offers them some pass rushing prowess on the end.This is a closer match-up than it may seem. I don’t expect either unit to dominate, but each will get their shots. Advantage: PushThe skill positionsThe Falcons offense has bounced back considerably since their week one debacle. Matt Ryan now has 897 yards with 7 TDs (plus 2 rushing!) and only 2 INTs for a passer rating of 106.5. Julio Jones had a “quiet” week against the Saints, only amassing 96 yards. However, his presence on the field opened up opportunities for Calvin Ridley, who went off for 7 catches for 146 yards and 3 TDs. The youngster looks like the real deal. Mohamed Sanu has been quiet so far this year, but he’s been reliable and is always a solid option if Julio and Ridley are covered. Austin Hooper has been good this year and looks like he’s finally growing into that receiving tight end role. The running backs have looked great Authentic Julio Jones Jersey , with Tevin Coleman and Ito Smith filling in admirably with Devonta Freeman on the mend. This is an incredibly talented and dangerous unit.The Bengals linebacking corps could be the big weakness for this defensive unit. In the middle, Hardy Nickerson has struggled against the run and the pass. Jordan Evans is good against the run but a liability in coverage. Nick Vigil is the best of this unit and is mostly average against both the run and pass. It’s clear they’re missing Vontaze Burfict. The safeties for Cincinatti are not bad. Shawn Williams is not having his best year but has shown to be capable in the past. Rookie second rounder Jessie Bates has looked good at free safety so far. Second year corner William Jackson looked great last year and has played mostly well so far in 2018. Dre Kirkpatrick has been solid but not spectacular, which is the definition of his career so far. In nickel sets, Darqueze Dennard is not off to a great start and could be someone the Falcons look to target if he gets matched up one-on-one with Calvin Ridley.The Bengals have some issues in this part of the defense and this is a match-up that strongly favors the Falcons. Advantage: FalconsOverallThe best hope for the Bengals will be to pressure Matt Ryan early and often. If they don’t, there’s no reason to think the Falcons rejuvenated offense can’t put points on the board against this unit. This defensive line is good, but isn’t considerably better than what the team has faced the past two games. Advantage: FalconsNFL trade deadline: Could the Falcons make a move if the season continues spiraling? With the Falcons at 1-4 and basically looking at every game on the schedule in the foreseeable future as “must win,” the buzzing around the Falcons beehive wonders if the trade deadline might come into play.Historically, the Falcons are mum around this time of year, even when they’re fielding a clear playoff team that might be a piece away from being perfect.Whether it’s just GM Thomas Dimitroff’s general desire not to trade players in-season or just a routine of not being interested when the moment strikes, it’s been radio silence during the trade season of mid-October to early November traditionally for the Birds. They’ve not had a season like this since 2014, where the wheels are falling off and the train heads nowhere fast, so one wonders in a more trade-happy NFL if the team could want to move anyone before the Oct. 30 deadline approaches. RB Tevin Coleman The first name that pops up would, of course, be RB Tevin Coleman, who has an expiring contract in March and who doesn’t appear to be destined to stick around with Devonta Freeman in the early parts of an extension and Ito Smith looking like a more-than-worthy successor. There seems to be a rash of injuries spreading around the league right now at the running back position, and any playoff team would no doubt love to have Coleman on a rental basis. Though Matt Ryan Jersey , this one feels unlikely, if only because we still have no idea if the Falcons aren’t secretly wanting to figure out a way to keep Coleman around. Freeman’s health hasn’t been sterling in the time since his extension. That’s not to say it’ll stay that way, but it is something that makes you wonder what happens with the guaranteed money runs out on his extension. Do you really want to let Coleman walk and then have to release Freeman a year or two later because he’s struggled to stay on the field? If Free can’t get healthy, they’re reliant on Ito Smith and Brian Hill to get the job done. Right now, it’d probably take a second or third rounder for Atlanta to even consider trading Coleman. They’re guaranteed at least a fourth in compensation if he walks, and they might want to see how Freeman’s 2018 progresses health-wise before they let him out the door for good. This feels highly unlikely unless a desperate team blows Atlanta away with an offer. DE Vic Beasley This is where things get interesting. It’s no secret that Vic Beasley isn’t having the best 2018, and that’s being said after an underwhelming 2017. We don’t know exactly what’s going on with Beasley right now, but he’s not getting consistent pressures or hits on the quarterbacksand his sack tally isn’t good enough for someone of his potential and past numbers. The Falcons have a huge decision to make on Beasley’s fifth-year option. He’s due to make $12.8 million in 2019, and though I’m a Beasley fan and defender, the team just can’t pay that for what Beasley is doing at the moment. He’s invisible for roughly half the game, and really only gets four or five snaps an outing where he really looks like he’s close to making a play. That’s obviously not good enough, and really not good enough for one of the biggest cap hits on the team. You hope he can figure it out and that he can get back to being the Beasley of old, but there is no doubt a probable playoff team out there (cough Los Angeles, Kansas City, New England, etc. cough) who could use some help off the edge. The Falcons could get that cap space back for the future with the deals they have coming up and could maybe get a third or fourth rounder in return. Any Others? A pass-rush needy team could see if a fifth or sixth rounder would be enough to snag DE Brooks Reed, though he’s right now the second-best pass rusher on the roster. DE Derrick Shelby feels more likely, as he’s on an expiring deal and is probably in his last year here. He could help someone in run support for certain. Soon-to-be free agent WR Justin Hardy could help a team that’s lacking at receiver (the Tennessee Titans immediately come to mind, as old Falcons QBs coach Matt LaFleur is their OC now). Though, the team standing pat on trading TE Tony Gonzalez all those years ago to a contender after the 2013 season went haywire makes me wonder if that’s just not a future Dimitroff wants to see. It sends a message to the locker room when you trade a starter or valuable rotational piece mid-season, and not a good one at that. One wonders if Atlanta will just choose to roll with what they’ve got through December (or, heck, maybe January if things really do get weird), even if someone comes calling.
