As we do every week Youth Andrew Sendejo Jersey , leading up to this week’s Minnesota Vikings contest. This week, the Vikings are taking on the New Orleans Saints, and that means we’re exchanging questions with the folks from Canal Street Chronicles, SB Nation’s home for everything relating to Saints football.I had the opportunity to exchange questions with Christopher Dunnells, and whenever they post my responses to the questions they had for me, I’ll link them here and put them at the top of our page. In the meantime, here are the questions I had for him, along with his responses. Enjoy! One of the keys for offensive success for the Vikings on Sunday night? Find Ken Crawley.Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports1) Last season, after a rough start, the Saints’ defense rounded into one of the better units in the league. This season, things haven’t quite followed, as the Saints are currently near the bottom of the league in points allowed, passing yardage, and passer rating allowed. What’s changed to derail a pass defense that appeared to be moving in the right direction at the end of last year?Regression from the Saints cornerbacks, most notably in #2 CB Ken Crawley. This is the primary reason the Saints went out to trade for former 1st Round Pick Eli Apple from the New York Giants. Hopefully the addition of Apple will help reinvigorate the Saints secondary and we can see a group that performs to the level of the second half of 2017.Demario Davis has been a key to the Saints’ NFL-best run defense thus far.Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports2) Conversely, the run defense has been very good, allowing the fewest yards/carry in the NFL and the fewest rushing yards/game in the league. What has been the key to the Saints’ outstanding play against the run through their first six games? The Saints defensive line has been stout against the run this year, but I would say there are two reasons why the Saints have a top-ranked rush defense: 1) the Saints linebackers are playing great - specifically, Demario Davis is having an excellent season in his first year in New Orleans. You could argue he’s playing at a Pro Bowl level right now, but he hasn’t quite gotten the recognition from the talking heads just yet. And 2) the Saints have struggled so mightily against the pass, opposing teams aren’t really choosing to try to run the ball. When you could previously just keep throwing at whoever Ken Crawley was covering, why in the world would you try to run between the tackles? The draft day trade for Marcus Davenport is just part of the reason the Saints have just one pick in the first four rounds of the 2019 NFL Draft.Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports3) With the trades they’ve made recently, the Saints now have just one pick in the first four rounds of the 2019 NFL Draft. Combined with the age of Drew Brees, does this make the 2018 season “Super Bowl or Bust” for the Saints in your opinion? You could see the Saints were going all-in on 2018 when they traded their 2019 1st Round Pick to draft DE Marcus Davenport and passing on QB Lamar Jackson. That made the Saints front office’s direction very clear. At the same time, the Saints had arguably one of the best draft classes in 2017 in the history of the NFL, with the reigning offensive and defensive rookies of the year (first time that happened on the same team since the award’s inception), plus numerous other key, young players.Combine the 2017 rookies with a young core that includes Cam Jordan, Michael Thomas, Marcus Davenport, Tre’Quan Smith, Demario Davis, Eli Apple, and one of the best offensive lines in football, and the Saints team wouldn’t have too many holes to fill in the 2019 draft regardless. The biggest concern would be the Saints’ lack of a QB of the future, but if the Saints are able to keep Teddy Bridgewater (heard of him?) a la Jimmy G. in San Francisco after the trade from the Patriots, then I have no issues with the Saints sparse draft picks next year.Taysom Hill does a little bit of everything for the Saints.Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports4) Give us one player on each side of the ball that Vikings’ fans might not necessarily know about that you think will play a role in deciding the outcome of Sunday’s game.Well I’ll start with the aforementioned Demario Davis. He’s been great thus far in New Orleans. He’s played the run exceptionally, holds his own in coverage, and has looked great when asked asked to rush the passer on a linebacker blitz. He would absolutely be someone to be aware of when the Vikings offense is on the field. Now when I’m asked to address a player on the “other side of the ball,” I’m going to go a little off script and go Taysom Hill. Taysom, the quarterback, halfback, tight end, wide receiver, gunner, holder, kick returner, hair stylist http://www.vikingsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-ben-gedeon-jersey , travel agent, and tire salesman... OK, I might have gotten a little carried away there at the end, but seriously, check out these numbers:Taysom is an absolute monster right now, and a player the Vikings have absolutely spent hours preparing for. He’s the up back on punts, and the Saints have already successfully executed two fake punts already this season - one was where Taysom threw a pass against the Giants, and the other a rush up the middle by Taysom against the Ravens. He also is seemingly unstoppable when running the read option. He’s let Alvin Kamara run up the middle, but he absolutely prefers to tuck the ball himself and run outside. The Saints have now shown a couple of looks where he’s thrown a pass out of the read option, and the Saints have also had Taysom run a sweep outside only to pitch the ball back to Kamara. Last week, they handed the ball to Taysom like a traditional running back. They’ve also shown multiple looks where Taysom is in blocking like a tight end.The Saints and Sean Payton continue to expand the Taysom Hill Playbook, and it wouldn’t be surprised to see another wrinkle added on Sunday. When Taysom is in at quarterback, Drew Brees stays on the field out wide. You just know Sean Payton is waiting to call some sort of double-pass. Taysom is also the primary holder for field goals and extra points, but we haven’t seen Payton break out the bag of tricks on those plays just yet.He has sub-4.40 speed and is used primarily on special teams, though. He wants to bring every kick that’s not deep in his own end zone out for a return. He’ll also lay the wood to opposing returners when he’s on the coverage unit. No matter how he gets used this week, when #7 goes on the field, Saints fans hold their collective breath in excitement. The last time we saw professional doucherocket Sean Payton, he was doing this. Will we see a repeat on Sunday?Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports5) How do you see the game playing out? Do the Saints get a measure of revenge for January?Mike Zimmer is giving lip service to Xavier Rhodes and Anthony Barr’s chances of playing on Sunday. I think a lot of this game will come down the Vikings ability to stop the Saints on offense. The Vikings will score against the Saints secondary. Adam Thielen will go off and Kirk Cousins will seemingly be able to pass at-will, even behind a shaky offensive line. I’ve just come to terms with that. I think this game will come down to the other matchups - when the Saints are on offense. Can the Vikings get enough stops to win a shootout? To me, if Rhodes is out or limited, I like my QB’s chances in a shootout over yours. Mine has done it before. Yours still has a lot to prove.I like the Saints 35-31, assuming no/limited Rhodes. If Rhodes and Barr are back and at full strength, I could easily see the score flipped. But “revenge?” Revenge for what? The 2009 NFC Championship Game? Your memory must be faulty - the Saints won that game on their way to a Super Bowl (do you know what those are? “Super Bowls?”). There’s nothing there to need “revenge.”But really - good luck this week, and as they say: may the Saints team win. Or something like that.As always, thanks to Christopher for taking the time to answer our questions, and man. . .who needs Cajun seasoning when you got that much salt, eh?I kid. . .Christopher is one of, like, a dozen decent Saints fans, so this was all in good fun. I think. I’m relatively sure. I hope.More on this week’s game as kickoff gets closer. Merry post-win Monday, everyone!Hey, a record of 4-2-1 and division leaders is a lot better than 1-2-1, isn’t it? That was only a few short weeks ago, and the team has rid itself of the anchor it was dragging, and is picking up a head of steam as they approach mid-season. They have another tough one coming up, as the Saints come to town, and the two will square off in Sunday’s late game on Sunday Night Football.Yesterday’s game was very dull for two quarters, the offense did very little, with the exception of a beautiful throw and catch from Cousins to Thielen. The rest of the half for the Vikings’ offense was a lot of three-and-outs, very little from the run game, and I was starting to think of the yard work I could be enjoying. The defense was solid, and gave the offense a lot of opportunities, and the offense used those opportunities to give the punter a workout (it’s nice to have a punter with a leg like that, isn’t it?). The second half saw much of the same from the defense, as they dismantled Darnold and the Jets offense throughout the game. They got pressure on Darnold all day long, which translated into turnovers and a very frustrated Jets offense. The Vikings offense got it going somewhat, and although the team finished with 37 points, the offense never looked like they were firing on all 8. Cousins had a pretty good game Sheldon Richardson Jersey , and Murray had a couple of nice runs and two touchdowns, but I still want to see improvement. In the end, the team got its first win ever against the Jets in New York Jersey (yep, first time in history they’ve beaten them on the road), and improved to 4-2-1 and first place in the NFC North. The Packers play tonight, so they could be co-division leaders if the game doesn’t go right, but we’ll just say division leaders, because it really doesn’t matter until week 17 anyway. Those of you who watched yesterday’s broadcast will know that there was a rare atmospheric event in New Jersey yesterday called “wind”. Yes, wind. The announcers talked about it non-stop for much of the broadcast.I’m not really sure what it is, but from what I’ve read, something in the atmosphere makes the air move. It’s supposedly kinda’ like if you stick your head or hand out of the window while you drive your car with the windows down, I really don’t know much about it, only the little I could find online, as this is a very rare occurrence, but I’m very shocked that the NFL allowed the game to go on. I looked on the National Weather Service site, and it reported this “wind” in East Rutherford was 19 miles per hour, and the maximum gust was 25 miles per hour. Now, that’s quite a bit lower than the 40 mph gusts they put up during the broadcast, but I’m sure that was a simple oversight by the crew. I’m sure it was hard to concentrate on getting the details right when they were just hoping to go home alive. I mean, we could be seeing the beginning of Armageddon, and they play the game? I’m disappointed that the NFL put everyone’s lives at risk, and I hope there is a full investigation. While I know that it will be another several centuries or more until this “wind” happens again, they should still understand that something so rare carries with it many unknowns, and they really don’t know what could have happened. They’re just lucky that everyone survived.Around the DN since our last open thread:Ted dropped by and delivered the latest Stock Market Report: Jets.Chris has the post-game wrap-up.Thielen tied a record that was set back in 1961, from Lucas Ailport.Could Thielen break the team’s single-season receiving record, currently held by Randy Moss? against the Arizona Cardinals http://www.vikingscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-rashod-hill-jersey , the Minnesota Vikings won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half, giving the visiting team the football first. Dan Bailey’s kickoff was fielded at the goal line by Brandon Williams, and he could only return it to the 16 to set up the Cardinals’ first drive. The Cardinals couldn’t generate anything offensively, with Rosen’s pass for Larry Fitzgerald on third down falling incomplete for a three-and-out. Andy Lee came on to punt it away for Arizona, and the returning Marcus Sherels took the punt to the Minnesota 31.Kirk Cousins led the Vikings’ offense out onto the field, and immediately hit Laquon Treadwell on a pair of passes to get the ball to midfield. A short pass to Kyle Rudolph and a run by Latavius Murray set up the Vikings’ first third down situation of the afternoon, and Cousins’ pass was knocked down by Benson Mayowa, and the Vikings elected to go on 4th-and-2 from the Arizona 42. Cousins’ pass was once again deflected, this time by Corey Peters, and it went right back into his hands. Cousins tried to get the first down, but was stopped short, resulting in a turnover on downs.Arizona picked up a first down on a short screen from Rosen to fellow rookie Christian Kirk to move themselves into Minnesota territory at the 46. Rosen and Kirk then connected again, as the pair connected on a pass that Kirk took down to the Minnesota 11-yard line, a 35-yard gain. The Vikings’ defense stiffened and got a stop, forcing the Cardinals to settle for a 36-yard field goal from Phil Dawson. Dawson connected, and the visitors took an early 3-0 lead. The kickoff from Dawson went through the end zone for a touchback, giving the purple a start at their own 25-yard line on their second possession. Cousins immediately went back to work, hitting Adam Thielen for the first time on the day for a 15-yard gain and a first down. Latavius Murray then broke off the Vikings’ best run play of the year, rambling for 26 yards into Cardinals’ territory at the 34. Kyle Rudolph was then flagged for a false start, but Cousins went back to Thielen for nine more yards. The Vikings got a little tricky, as Stefon Diggs took a handoff to the 21-yard line for a first down.Cousins then had another pass knocked down, so they turned back to Murray, and he finished the drive. He took a handoff from Cousins and blasted through the line http://www.vikingscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-eric-kendricks-jersey , rambling 21 yards for the Vikings’ first rushing touchdown of the season. Dan Bailey added the extra point, and the home team found themselves up 7-3.Bailey’s kickoff went through the end zone, putting the Cardinals on their own 25 to start their third possession of the afternoon. On the Cardinals’ first play of the drive, David Johnson got a nice run, but was stripped by Anthony Barr! Sebastian Thunderbucket, Tom Johnson fell on the loose ball, and the Vikings were in business at the Arizona 31.Murray got the call on first down for a short gain, and then Tom Compton was flagged for a false start. Cousins got the yardage back, connecting with Diggs down to the Arizona 17 for a first down. Cousins was then sacked by Corey Peters to set the offense back a bit, and then Roc Thomas was taken down for a loss by Chandler Jones to make it third-and-long. Cousins completed one to Treadwell, but didn’t get anywhere close to the first down, and the Vikings called on Bailey again. His 37-yard attempt got just inside the right upright, and the home team extended their lead to 10-3.Bailey’s kickoff went through the end zone for a touchback once again. Two short runs by David Johnson set the Cardinals up with 3rd-and-6, and Rosen was taken down on a blitz by a combination of Mackensie Alexander and Anthony Harris for a three-and-out! Andy Lee came on to punt again, and Sherels was ruled down at the 31-yard line.As we move to the second quarter of play, the Vikings are looking at 2nd-and-1 from their own 40-yard line. After one quarter of play, the Minnesota Vikings lead the Arizona Cardinals by a score of 10-3, and they’re looking for more. Come on in and join us for the second quarter of action! Mike Zimmer gathered his team around him in a victorious locker room and let them in on what they just accomplished. The Minnesota Vikings, he told them, had never defeated the Jets on the road — until Sunday. Kirk Cousins and the rest of his teammates broke out in big cheers to celebrate a 37-17 win."Winning on the road is important in this league," Cousins said, "and I was glad we were able to do that."Cousins threw two touchdown passes, Latavius Murray ran for two scores Cheap Ben Gedeon Jersey , and the Vikings (4-2-1) pulled away in the second half for their third straight victory. It wasn't the best performance of the season by the Vikings' high-powered offense, but it was certainly good enough against a Jets team that had four turnovers — including interceptions by Harrison Smith, Holton Hill and Trae Waynes."Any time you score 37 points on the road, you're doing something right," Cousins said. "But there are times where it wasn't good enough. We are so grateful for defense and special teams today because it gave us the opportunity to go out and score points."Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen became the fifth player in NFL history to get at least 100 yards receiving in seven consecutive games, catching nine passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.Murray, coming off career-high 155 yards rushing against Arizona, finished with 69 yards on 15 carries to help lift the Vikings to their first road win against the Jets after losing the first five meetings away from home.In his first game against the Jets (3-4) since spurning their massive offer in free agency, Cousins was far from spectacular but made some big plays late. With the game still hanging in the balance and the Vikings facing fourth-and-8 from the 34, Cousins connected with Aldrick Robinson for a TD to seal it.Cousins, 25 of 40 for 241 yards, opted to turn down New York's three-year, $90 million deal in the offseason and instead chose to go to Minnesota, which actually signed him to a deal worth $6 million less. The Jets insisted this loss didn't sting any more than usual because it was against Cousins."We don't care," Jets linebacker Darron Lee said. "We only care about us and this team. Don't try to make this about him. We don't care. No one ever spoke about that all week. No one cared."After Cousins made his decision, the Jets turned their attention to the draft, where they selected Sam Darnold with the No. 3 overall pick.In their first meeting, Cousins came out on top — while Darnold struggled on a cold, windy day.The rookie was 17 of 42 for 206 yards with a TD pass to Chris Herndon and a TD run, but was intercepted three times as New York's two-game winning streak ended."I've just got to find completions," Darnold said. "That's really it. And, we've got to do a better job executing."The Vikings took a 17-point lead early in the fourth quarter when Murray followed a 23-yard run with a 38-yard touchdown scamper, his second score of the game ."It wasn't pretty early on Sheldon Richardson Jersey ," Murray said, "but we know how important it is to run the ball and we stuck with it."New York wasn't done, though.Darnold's 17-yard throw to Herndon was initially called a touchdown, but it was ruled after a video review that the tight end's heel went out of bounds at the 1. Darnold went in on a quarterback sneak on the next play for the first rushing score of his career, making it 27-17.After the Vikings went three-and-out, Darnold went deep to Robby Anderson, whose legs got tangled with Xavier Rhodes and both needed to be checked by trainers. Anderson was OK, but Rhodes was helped off the field without putting weight on his left leg. Zimmer said Rhodes has a sprained ankle.Hill came on in place of Rhodes and immediately picked off Darnold's pass intended for Andre Roberts. Seven plays later, Cousins put the game away with his TD toss to Robinson."We had so many opportunities to put that game away earlier," Zimmer said. "There were two or three turnovers we didn't take advantage of. ... We've got to overcome ourselves on some of those things."THIELEN FEELIN' ITThielen reached his milestone with a 21-yard catch in the fourth quarter. He joined Detroit's Calvin Johnson (eight, 2012), Denver's Demaryius Thomas (seven, 2014), Dallas' Michael Irvin (seven, 1995) and Houston's Charley Hennigan (seven, 1961) to accomplish the feat.He and Hennigan are the only players to do so in his team's first seven games to open the season."It says it all," Cousins said. "He's a great player. Ultimately, he's a great person and it starts there the way he approaches everything he does. I'm lucky to play with him. The Vikings are lucky to have him."THIRD-DOWN STRUGGLESMinnesota finished 2 of 15 on third downs, while New York was 2 of 13.The Vikings first conversion didn't come until midway through the third quarter on Thielen's 13-yard catch after being 0 for 8 up to that point. The Jets' first third-down conversion came late in the third on Darnold's 6-yard run on third-and-5.INJURIESVikings: LG Tom Compton left in the first quarter with a knee injury and didn't return. ... LB Anthony Barr left in the fourth with a hamstring injury.Jets: RB Bilal Powell injured his neck during a 2-yard run in the second quarter. S Doug Middleton, starting in place of the injured Marcus Maye, also left in the second with a shoulder injury. Neither player returned, and coach Todd Bowles said both would have tests to determine the severity of their injuries.UP NEXTVikings: home vs. New Orleans next Sunday.Jets: at Chicago next Sunday.

Good Morning!up here will probably be short so I can go get this published and go to bed. From the looks of the score the Steelers handled the Panthers easily last night but I wasn’t able to watch. As it’s the bye week for the Vikings I’ll probably check scores of games that might impact our favorite team this weekend but I doubt I’ll watch a game. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, try the venison chili and as always Youth Harrison Smith Jersey , Welcome Aboard and Skol Vikings! The NFL’s new helmet rule is going to cost someone a game When the National Football League announced this offseason that they were going to crack down on defenders leading with their helmets, there were a lot of people scratching their heads. The NFL was pretty vague about the rule, and it didn’t seem like anyone really knew what made a particular hit a foul. Now, on the verge of starting the first regular season with the rule in place, there is still confusion reigning. . .even among the people that are supposed to know what the heck is going on.This is a hit from the fourth quarter of today’s game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Jacksonville Jaguars, wherein linebacker Antwione Williams comes of the edge completely untouched and sacks Jaguars quarterback Cody Kessler. For some reason, this was called as a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down for the Jaguars when it should have been a significant loss of yardage. This is an absolutely textbook tackle by Williams. He doesn’t lead with the head, but with his right shoulder. He puts his pads right into Kessler’s rib cage http://www.vikingsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-everson-griffen-jersey , and takes him to the ground. That’s the way players are taught to tackle from the time they’re taking down tackling bags in junior high, and possibly even before that. Now, before we you start rolling your eyes, yes. . .I know that this is a preseason game. Yes, I understand that this particular game, and ultimately this play, doesn’t actually mean anything. However, we’re less than three weeks away from the start of the regular season.Do you think that the NFL is just going to magically unjam their heads from their rear ends in that period of time? Call me skeptical if you wish Stefon Diggs Jersey , but I have my doubts. The league has done an awful job of defining what this penalty actually is. There have been numerous instances of what appear to be routine hits that have been flagged as unnecessary roughness penalties, and if this carries on into the regular season, it’s going to cost a team a big game in a big spot. And you know that the odds of it happening to the Vikings are significantly greater than any other team. Because Vikings. This rule, and it’s poor implementation, is absolutely going to cost a team a game at some point this season. Don’t be surprised when it happens.

The New Orleans Saints travel north again this week, again to take on a division leader. This time, it's to face the NFC North leading Minnesota Vikings. The Saints (5-1) have won five straight games, while the Vikings (4-2-1) have won three straight. This is the third time in a little over a year that New Orleans has played the Vikings, all in Minnesota, and the third different Viking quarterback that they will face in that time. The Saints defense has risen to 18th in the league in total yardage after early struggles, but still has concerning breakdowns against the pass. They oppose a Minnesota offense that averages 380 yards and 25 points per game. One that torched the Saints pass defense in two games a year ago. Let's have a look at how the rematch shapes up for a Saints defense playing with confidence. SAINTS PASS DEFENSE vs. VIKINGS PASS OFFENSE Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsMuch of the discussion all week of course is about about the final play of the divisional playoff game between the two teams. As most know, with ten seconds to go in that playoff game after New Orleans had completed a comeback that had it looking like they were about to pull off the upset, then-Minnesota quarterback Case Keenum completed the improbable 61-yd. touchdown strike to Stefon Diggs to pull out the victory. New Orleans has had their struggles against the pass this season, currently sitting 28th in the league rankings and giving up 294 yards per game through the air. On Tuesday, the Saints completed a trade with the New York Giants for cornerback Eli Apple, the 10th overall pick of the 2016 draft. While it looks doubtful that Apple will make his New Orleans debut this week, it's clear that the team felt the need to upgrade their coverage. The secondary has done a better job at limiting big plays over the last month Ken Crawley Jersey , but coverage and communication breakdowns were still evident last week against Baltimore. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore and safety Marcus Williams are again playing good football after a slow start to the season, and Vonn Bell has proven to be a solid compliment at the other safety spot. Opposing teams have targeted Ken Crawley and P.J. Williams heavily though, often with success. Cameron Jordan continues to be a pass rushing force, commanding double and sometimes triple teams. He has 5 of the team's 13 sacks, and is the emotional leader of the defense. Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins and ends Marcus Davenport and Alex Okafor have combined for five sacks and have pressured the quarterback well at times, but need to show more consistency to help the secondary. The Saints linebackers have contained opposing backs and tight ends well in their coverage responsibilities, and each have been used as effective blitzers. Photo by Hannah Foslien/Getty ImagesMinnesota's pass offense ranks 7th in the league, and averages 293 yards per game. The Vikings made one of the league's most talked about offseason moves when they signed former Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins to a record breaking free agent deal. Cousins has been a bit up and down so far, completing 70% of his throws, throwing for 14 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, and eclipsing the 400-yd. mark twice this season. The Saints defense is familiar with Cousins, facing him twice while with Washington. Cousins riddled the New Orleans coverage in those contests, averaging 323 yards while throwing seven touchdowns and no interceptions. He has even better receivers to work with in Minnesota that he had in Washington. Adam Thielen is one of the NFL's most productive and underrated wideouts. Thielen has had over 100 yards receiving and at least six receptions in every game this year, and has caught 67 passes for 822 yards and five scores. Stefon Diggs would be the top receiver on many teams, and has added 48 catches for 468 yards and three touchdowns. Tight end Kyle Rudolph is an excellent mid-range target, and has 28 receptions for 282 yards and two scores, and three of wideout Aldrick Robinson's four receptions have gone for touchdowns. Laquon Treadwell, the 23rd overall pick of the 2016 draft, is well on pace for his best season with 22 catches for 191 yards. Minnesota uses their running backs little in the passing game, often using them as extra protection against the pass rush, but can be dangerous in the open field out of the backfield. Cousins, who has a reputation of holding the ball as long as possible, has been sacked 19 times this year, and the Vikings offensive line is considered a team weakness. Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports~ Matchup to Watch: Saints secondary vs. Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs ~Stefon Diggs is a name that will haunt Saints fans for the rest of eternity, but it is Thielen and his outstanding route running that often breaks a defense. Thielen had 15 catches for 231 yards in the two games between these teams last year, including 157 yards in the 2017 season opener. Diggs added 13 receptions for 230 yards and 3 touchdowns against New Orleans, including the playoff heartbreaker. Marshon Lattimore, who played sparingly in the '17 opener, will likely draw Thielen in many one on one match ups, but the entire Saints secondary must find a way to limit both Viking stars. SAINTS RUN DEFENSE vs. VIKINGS RUN OFFENSE Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY SportsNew Orleans continues to play outstanding run defense. They have allowed only 72 rushing yards per game, and opposing rushers are averaging just 3.1 yards per carry Cheap Josh LeRibeus Jersey , both best in the NFL. Undrafted rookie defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth may miss his second straight game with an ankle injury, but Rankins, Tyeler Davison, and David Onyemata continue to stonewall blockers inside. The New Orleans defensive ends play the run as well as any edge unit in the league, and the entire defense flows to the run aggressively. Saints linebackers Demario Davis and A.J. Klein are every down players who have been playmakers against the running game this entire season. Davis (49 tackles) and Klein (31) are the defense's top tacklers, and often snuff out plays before they ever get going. Manti Te'o returned to the lineup last week after missing two games with injury, and gives the New Orleans defense another solid defender against the run. Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsLatavius Murray (330 yards, 4.8 average, 3 touchdowns) is the Vikings leading rusher for a 27th ranked rushing attack that averages only 87 yards per game. Dalvin Cook, last year's promising rookie, has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury after missing most of last season with injury. He has carried the ball 36 times for just 98 yards, but the Saints defense knows what Cook is capable of when healthy. Cook rolled over the New Orleans defense for 127 yards on 22 carries in last year's season opener. Murray can capably produce in the running game, however, and Minnesota will look to establish the run on early downs to open up their explosive passing attack. Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports~ Matchup to Watch: Cam Jordan/Marcus Davenport/Sheldon Rankins vs. Vikings offensive line Jordan, Rankins, and the rookie Davenport have been the playmakers on a Saints defensive line that has played very well for the most part this season. They'll be going up against a Minnesota offensive line that is not only inconsistent, but banged up as well. Left tackle Riley Reiff has missed the last two games with a foot injury, and guard Tom Compton exited last week with a knee injury. Both players are questionable for this week, and would be replaced by unproven players on a struggling line. New Orleans has the potential to dominate this match up, and must do so to stop the run and force Minnesota into third and long situations. They must also be able to get to Cousins early in the pass rush and either get him on the ground or force a rushed throw into coverage. WHAT TO LOOK FOR: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsThe Vikings converted an eye-popping 61% of their 3rd down opportunities against the Saints in their two games a year ago. Minnesota is converting at a 38% rate on 3rd downs so far this year, while the New Orleans defense is 42% on 3rd downs. The key to beating a Kirk Cousins offense is heavy pressure from the front line. He reads the blitz well, and receivers Thielen, Diggs, and Rudolph make excellent adjustments to get open quickly. New Orleans looks to have the advantage against the run, but must be able to convert pressure into hits and sacks on Cousins while holding up in coverage. The biggest battle of the game will be in the secondary, where the Saints have just two interceptions this year and continue to have breakdowns in key moments, looking particularly vulnerable at the end of games. Fans will always remember that Marcus Williams missed the tackle on Diggs to allow the divisional playoff loss. What they forget is how well Williams had played during the game, including an acrobatic interception that keyed the Saints comeback. While Williams doesn't necessarily view this as a chance for "redemption", all eyes will be on him and the rest of the New Orleans secondary in this battle of NFC contenders.

Too familiar. With Odell Beckham Jr. Womens Sheldon Rankins Jersey , healthy, rookie Saquon Barkley in the backfield, Sterling Shepard emerging as a complementary target, the Giants' offense should be far more dangerous than in last season's debacle. It sure didn't look that way Sunday in a 33-18 loss to New Orleans. The Saints didn't even need Drew Brees to be his usual dominating self because, after New York's superb opening drive, the offense pretty much went silent until it was too late.Reminiscent of last year under a different coaching staff that didn't survive the full schedule and the Giants wound up 3-13."It's a tough question. It seems like it shouldn't be this hard, but it is," said Beckham, held to 60 yards on seven receptions. "We got to come with the energy like our game last week (a win at Houston). It's not one person doing this or one person doing that. It's got to be everybody. We've just got to stick together."It's definitely not the results we want, the outcome. It's not the way we want to play."It's similar to how they played in 2017, though, and that's been true throughout September, when they went 1-3 to fall into the NFC East cellar they occupied last season.Following an impressive 10-play, 75-yard drive on their first series that Shepard capped with a 2-yard scoring catch from Eli Manning, the offensive stagnated. While their defense held New Orleans to four first-half field goals, the Giants were managing two punts and a lost fumble. Then the Saints got their attack on track and the Giants couldn't keep up."We were going to just have to have some long drives and continue to play that way," said Manning, whose solid numbers — 31 for 41 for 255 yards and one touchdown — belied the effectiveness of the offense. "There were a few times where they knocked us out of some good down and distance and we weren't able to sustain some drives."When the Giants brought in Pat Shurmur Womens Vonn Bell Jersey , the NFL's Assistant Coach of the Year in 2017 while coordinating Minnesota's offense, then added Barkley as the No. 2 overall draft pick, it wasn't supposed to be this way. The elements at the skill positions were in place with Beckham back to health and tight end Evan Engram (now out with a sprained knee) rapidly developing. But Manning needs solid protection, something he rarely gets. Barkley is terrific and picking up yards on his own, but that's a difficult chore down after down.So the Giants have scored 73 points in four games, with 27 coming in the win at Houston."We need to score more points," Shurmur said, stating the obvious. "We had a good first drive and we have to do more of it throughout. That's what I make of it. We need to get better."We need to get back to work and play our way through this. You just keep working. You play your way out of it and you coach your way out of it. Period. That's what you do. That's the reality of it. That's what I trust our guys and our coaches will do."It won't be easy with staunch defenses in Carolina and Philadelphia up next."I think we have talent," Manning said. We just have to put it all together."New Enforcement of Roughing the Passer Rule May Have a Trickle Down Effect The NFL added a new element to its’ roughing the passer rule this past offseason. The new rule, which is located in Rule 12, Section 2, Article 9 of the NFL’s rule book, states a player will be penalized 15 yards if he applies all or most of his body weight onto a quarterback and drives him to the ground. The rule was most likely added as a knee jerk reaction to Aaron Rodger’s broken collarbone last year while taking a sack from Chicago Bears pass rusher Shea McClellin. Tony Romo must be feeling like a keg of O’Doul’s; worthless.Romo first broke his collarbone against the Giants way back in 2010. He missed the final 10 games of that season. Then in 2015 Romo missed seven games due to another collarbone fracture in a loss to the Eagles. He returned for less than two games before re-injuring it against the Panthers. The Cowboys finished 2015 with a 4-12 record. But the league didn’t seem to care. They were the same types of hits Rodgers took in 2017, but no rule changes were made.Ironically, it’s Rodgers’ very own teammate, Clay Matthews, who has been burned the most by the new rule. For three weeks in a row, he has earned spirit-crushing roughing the passer penalties. The first penalty definitely was a penalty Authentic Alex Okafor Jersey , but the second and third penalties left most scratching their heads. Even Aaron Rodgers, whom this rule was most likely created to protect doesn’t agree with it.NFL fans have been incensed with the extreme increase in roughing the passer penalties, which are on pace to be the most since 2001. Sack artists like J.J. Watt feel the very same way.Pass rushers are some of the most athletic players on the field. But what they are being asked to do is simply impossible when taking the laws of physics into account.Just this past weekend, an 11 year veteran and leader of the Dolphins locker room, William Hayes, tore his right ACL while trying to avoid landing on Derek Carr in the act of sacking him during a crucial third down stop.NFL veterans like Richard Sherman and the Saints’ own Cam Jordan chimed in when they heard the news of Hayes’ unfortunate injury.Dolphins’ head coach Adam Gase was despondent following the game. “He will be out for the season,” Gase said. “He tore his ACL on that sack. He was trying to not put body weight on the quarterback. His foot got caught in the ground.” Hayes accounted for a third of the Dolphins’ sacks this season and was a crucial run stop element during their first 3-0 start in five years.Add Derek Carr to the growing list of quarterbacks who don’t like this new rule even though it’s designed to protect them.Hayes’ teammate, Akeem Spence verbalized players’ frustrations perfectly. ”It sucks because he was trying to protect the quarterback while still trying to make the play, and it’s a double-edged sword,” Spence said. “What do you expect us to do? We know the rule, but we don’t know the ins and outs.”“And then I saw Clay Matthews, he had another one yesterday. What do you want the guy to do? You gotta put the guy down. How much is too much weight? What technique do you use? How do you go about it? We are still asking questions just like y’all are. Let’s be honest, that’s a difficult rule to gauge.”Fans are frustrated with the high number of penalties killing the momentum of games with too many breaks in the action already. Defenders are frustrated at the impossibility of the task they are being asked to perform. Hell, even a couple of the highest paid quarterbacks have stated they don’t care for the rule either. It seems Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is the only player who is ready to embrace the new rule. “I need to sit in the pocket and let them hit me more. Simple as that.” I sincerely doubt the competition committee wanted quarterbacks taking more hits in exchange for more valuable penalties, but that is exactly what Prescott has proposed. Another play that stood out last week against the Falcons was when multiple Saints defenders were in hot pursuit of quarterback Matt Ryan. Ryan appeared to give himself up close to the sideline after scrambling out of the pocket. The defenders immediately halted their pursuit. Then Ryan underhand tossed the ball up field and the play resulted in an incomplete pass instead of a four yard loss like it would have been if the Saints defenders didn’t appear to lay off Ryan. If quarterbacks around the league start pulling this trick, we may never see another sack.If a sack becomes more rare because of this rule, could pass rushers and sack artists become devalued? Aaron Donald and Khalil Mack just signed extensions worth more than $20 million per year to do little else than attack quarterbacks. Cam Jordan is the 18th highest paid edge rusher in the league and he makes a cool $11 million per year. It’s a valuable position that is paid for harassing quarterbacks. If they can’t do their job without costing their teams countless first downs, I wonder if teams will still want to pay them top dollar. Clay Matthews is paid $13.2 million per year to sack the quarterback Womens Max Unger Jersey , and two of the prettiest sacks he’s ever registered have instead cost the Packers 30 yards in penalties.Matthews had this to say following his latest penalty against Washington quarterback Alex Smith. ”Of course, like I said last week, NFL’s gonna come back, say I put my body on him, but that’s a football play. I hit him from the front, got my head across, wrapped up. I’ve never heard of anybody tackling somebody without any hands.”“When he gives himself up as soon as you hit him, your body weight’s going to go on him. I think we’re looking for the hits that took Aaron [Rodgers] out last year, that little extra. If I wanted to hurt him, I could have. I could’ve put some extra on him. That’s football.”The spirit of this rule has clearly been lost on the fans, players, and refs. This can’t possibly be what the competition committee had in mind when they established the rule. Usually the league doesn’t roll back rules after making them, but in the case of touchdown celebrations, they did exactly that by loosening the previously draconian laws of having fun after scoring. The league has released a statement revealing that it will not change the rule mid season.Let’s hope the league does take a second look at this rule this offseason and roll it back to when the players were just playing hard nosed football. Because if they don’t, Tony Romo just might come out of retirement.

foreseeable future Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said at the beginning of the month that he isn’t interested in trading his backup quarterback just yet Cheap Jordan Wilkins Jersey , even if a first-round draft pick was dangled in the deal. That notion is proven to be true. The Colts turned down a trade offer for Jacoby Brissett that included a second-round pick from the Seattle Seahawks, according to Ben Violin from the Boston Globe. While Russell Wilson is undoubtedly the starting quarterback in Seattle for years to come, there is a connection as to why the Seahawks would be interested in dealing for Brissett. Brian Schottenheimer, who is currently the offensive coordinator under Pete Carroll, was the quarterbacks coach in Indianapolis last year when Brissett took over for the injured Andrew Luck. Without a doubt, Schottenheimer was a big advocate for the second-string signal-caller. “We have the best backup quarterback in football,” Irsay said, via the Indianapolis Star. “I don’t think we’d accept a [first-round pick in a trade] for him, we think he’s that good.”Brissett, who is just 24-years-old, has the arm talent and size to be a starting-caliber quarterback, and he showed that last year in 16 games — throwing 13 touchdowns to just seven interceptions with the worst offensive line unit in the National Football League. As of now, while the former North Carolina State quarterback could command a first-round pick, the Colts — as Irsay iterated at the beginning of August — should be in no rush to make a deal Margus Hunt Jersey , although the team is in desperate need of draft capital for talent purposes. For one, Brissett — outside of Teddy Bridgewater and Nick Foles — is the one of the best insurance policies on the market, giving Indianapolis something to fall back on just in case, knock on wood, Luck has any issues moving forward. If Luck has any bit of pain in his arm, Brissett should play immediately, but that’s another topic of discussion. As of now, his contract is very economical — at salaries of $735,000 this year and $890,000 for the 2019 season — for a team that is looking to upgrade talent at seemingly every spot outside of quarterback, kicker, punter, and safety. With that salary, it’s insurance that allows the Colts to pursue players — if Chris Ballard ever decides to. Colts head coach Frank Reich Cheap Braden Smith Jersey , who knows the life of a backup quarterback all too well, sees the talent in his young backup. He knows the importance in the position — whether it’s for starting or backup purposes. “I think you’re a top-20 quarterback,” Reich told Brissett via the Indianapolis Star. “I think you’re a starter in this league.”“I think he’s a big-time competitor and he wants to play,” Reich added. For the sake of the Colts, they need Brissett.Grading Andrew Luck’s 49ers Game + Recapping his Preseason Andrew Luck’s final performance of the preseason was his best one to date. Throughout the preseason, Luck threw 32 passes (roughly the equivalent to one normal NFL game) and had 5 rushing attempts. The coaching staff did a nice job easing him back in with a lot of easy throws that catered to his less than 100% arm. Good or bad, it’s good to have Luck back throwing the pigskin.Linked below are all of Luck’s official throwing attempts and rushes from his Week 3 preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.Attempt 1 — Short Completion to Wilkins - 4-Yard GainLuck wastes no time dumping off the pass to Wilkins after seeing it’s a zone coverage and there is no one around Wilkins. This is a smart decision on first down to make second down much easier. Attempt 2 — Short Completion to Ebron - 10-Yard GainThis is a pre-determined quick hitter type throw that Luck puts in the right spot and Ebron does a good job getting some extra yards.Attempt 3 — Short Completion to Hilton - 11-Yard GainThis is a “catch and shoot” type throw where Luck doesn’t drop and gets immediately set into his throwing position. He makes a great throw to Hilton on a 3-step slant and puts a lot of zip on the pass. He gets the first down off a great throw, which is a great sign. Attempt 4 — Short Incompletion to HiltonThis is a very good pass to Hilton that is placed in the perfect spot. Luck placed it in a spot where only Hilton can get it. Hilton essentially dropped the ball due to good physical play from the cornerback. Attempt 5 — Short Completion to Rogers - 19-Yard GainThis was a pre-determined read as the receivers stacked on a rub concept. Luck made the easy read and throw to Rogers who did all the work to get 19 yards. Attempt 6 — Short Completion to Hilton - 6-Yard GainThis is another quick-hitter throw to Hilton that he squeezes into a relatively tight window. Hilton does a good job securing the catch. I like the amount of velocity that Luck is putting on these passes, as these are the passes he will throw the most frequently throughout hte year.Attempt 7 — Short Completion to Ebron - 9-Yard GainThis is Luck’s first play action throw of the game. He takes a nice drop and sells the fake well. He looks high first and then takes the checkdown pass to Ebron on a quick out. He does a good job reading high to low and makes the right decision in the end. The pass was placed well and Ebron got a nice chunk of yardage after the throw. Attempt 8 — Short Completion to Daniels - 16-Yard GainThis is a variation of Spider 2 Y Banana, with Daniels being the primary read out of the backfield as a fullback. Luck sells the play action well and makes the easy pass to Daniels, who was wide open and takes it 16 yards. Attempt 9 — Short Incompletion to GrantGrant doesn’t run the best route and was covered well by the cornerback. He isn’t physical enough on the catch and the cornerback is able to knock the ball loose. Luck could’ve dumped the ball off to the running back, but making this throw to Grant isn’t bad because only Grant had a chance to catch the ball.Attempt 10 — Intermediate Pass to Ebron - 15-Yard TouchdownLuck made the throw harder than it had to be by putting air under it. He assumed that the nickel was still trailing him, but he stopped a few yards from the end-zone, leaving Ebron wide open. Ebron made the great catch to save Luck on the mediocre throw. Ebron was the obvious decision on the play and Luck made the right read for a straight forward touchdown.Rushing Attempt 1 — 1-Yard ScrambleThe receivers were well covered early on and with the initial pressure Cheap T.Y. Hilton Jersey , Luck was forced to run up the middle. This is a safe decision on 2nd down early in the game.Rushing Attempt 2 — 6-Yard ScrambleLuck does a great job taking his drop, scanning the field for options, staying light on his feet in the pocket and then scrambling when he realizes nothing is there. He picks up six valuable safe yards on 1st down and was untouched. Rushing Attempt 3 — 5-Yard ScrambleLuck does a good time buying time with his feet outside of the pocket, keeping his eyes downfield and looking for targets. When he decides to run, he takes a risk trying to juke a defender, but does so well and gets 5 yards. Rushing Attempt 4 — 15-Yard ScrambleLuck does a phenomenal job in the pocket with his footwork. He senses the pressure well and steps up into the open area. He scrambles well and gets 15 yards before taking a good hit. He’s making the smart, safe reads.Preseason RecapThe theme of Andrew Luck’s preseason was safety. The coaches called quick hitter passes that required little work from the quarterback and involved him making a bunch of short, easy passes. This is good for Luck as he needed to get back into the flow of things, so having him making a bunch of these type of throws will get him comfortable and readjusted to the game more quickly. Luck’s velocity looked a little off early on, but it looked on point on a few passes in his final preseason game. He’ll definitely have some early season issues with his timing on intermediate and deep passes and his velocity since it wasn’t given much work in the preseason, but Luck looks ready enough to play a regular season game. The arm itself looks good and his mechanics are on point and sharp. I was encouraged by his decision making and his awareness in the preseason and those qualities are in mid-season form. Smart players are very good at adjusting quickly so I’m not too worried about Luck, but if he’s a bit off on his medium and deep passes early on, it doesn’t mean the alarm should be sounded.

Colts PS Week 2 loss to Ravens | with Chris Shepherd The Indianapolis Colts took a loss in their second preseason game of the 2018 season to the Baltimore Ravens. Nobody is excited about what they saw from Andrew Luck Youth Al Woods Jersey , but that doesn’t mean that anyone’s concerned by it either. On the other hand, there were other individual performances that did catch our attention and should lead to some intrigue when looking ahead to the 2018 regular season. While the Colts have an extremely young roster right now, the focus is naturally going to be on those rookies and second-year players who could have an impact on the season this year. Darius Leonard, Skai Moore, Matthew Adams and Zaire Franklin all forced us to take notice for positive reasons. A few young receivers made some impressive catches Monday night and could very well find themselves in the thick of the roster race as injuries and poor play from others have become pretty common lately.Chris Shepherd joins me today to discuss al of this as well as a host of other topics. We talk about the impact the return of Malik Hooker could have on the defense in front of him as well as how his chemistry with Clayton Geathers can greatly improve the confidence of the defense as a whole. The question has come up of whether or not the Colts are showcasing John Simon being that he played so deeply into the fourth quarter. Chris and I both have some thoughts on this as well. Can Nyheim Hines be counted on to handle the ball in any capacity? How does Frank Reich go about at least taking away his return duties? Who should replace him? We haven’t seen anyone else field a kickoff or punt, so that may be something we can count on this coming Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers. We also dig in to the Colts offensive line with Denzelle Good making his return, and examine how Le’Raven Clark and Braden Smith performed with the starting unit.Chris and I go through as much as we can in an hour and despite some of the shaky play, there are plenty of things to be positive about just the same. Please subscribe, rate and review the show anywhere you listen to podcasts.Colts Cast Links: Apple Podcasts | Stitcher | BlogTalkRadio | SB Colts Cast YT ChannelFanPulse Week 3: A look around the league Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse, a survey of fans across the NFL powered by SurveyMonkey. Each week http://www.coltsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-ryan-grant-jersey , we send 32 polls to 100+ plugged in fans from each team. Colts fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse.Confidence in the direction of the Colts:Looking at poll results from Indianapolis Colts fans is interesting. Heading into week one saw 93% of fans confident in the direction of the team, following the loss to Bengals that number dropped to 82% and now following a win against the Redskins 94% are confident that Chris Ballard and Frank Reich have righted the ship. What about our opponents? Interestingly Bengals fans confidence in their team fell from 84% to 68% following their week 1 win. Apparently the Colts outplayed their expectations, or perhaps Bengals fans are just a confused bunch, unsure how they should feel? The Colts effect on Redskins fans was also interesting:Following a week one beat down of the Arizona Cardinals, Hogs Haven was riding a wave of confidence at 88%, following their week two beat down at the hands of the Colts they have dropped all the way to a confidence rating of 36%. That’s a drop of 52%! This tells me that fans around the league, thus far, have no respect for our Indianapolis Colts. Why else would you lose confidence after winning a close game and then have the majority of your fans lose confidence after losing a single game? You wouldn’t unless you believed you were playing against a bad team. On To The Eagles:Ultimately Colts fans who were polled feel very confident about the direction of the team and this week they will face a Philadelphia Eagles team that is returning its starting quarterback in Carson Wentz. Eagles fans voted before the Wentz news broke so keep that in mind when considering these results:Eagles fan confidence polled at 97% to start the season, rose to 98% after a win and have fallen to 93% following their week 2 loss. Again Cheap Jordan Wilkins Jersey , these numbers are without Carson Wentz, so I have to believe his return would bump that 93% a few points higher. The most interesting thing to note given this weeks poll is while Colts fan confidence rose by 12% and Eagles fan confidence fell by 5%, both Colts and Eagles fans expect the Eagles to win this game. Stampede Blue FanPulse: Eagles by 2Bleeding Green Nation FanPulse: Eagles by 9Frankly it doesn’t look like Eagles fans respect the Colts very much either. Sunday will be a day of surprises around the league, hopefully everyone who predicted the Colts to lose will be among the surprised. AFC South Fan Confidence:The Tennessee Titans beat what looks to be a bad Houston Texans team in week 2:Filling Music City Miracles users to the brim with confidence going from a 38% confidence rating to 73% of fans suddenly feeling confident in the direction of their team. Meanwhile Texans fans had the opposite and nearly equal reaction:Falling from a 49% confidence rating all the way to 22%, the Texans are in the bottom of the AFC South in more ways than one. The Jacksonville Jaguars on the other hand have one playoff appearance in a decade and are set to descend into cap-hell during the 2019 off season, but all seems bright for Jags fans following their impressive win against the New England Patriots:Of Jags fans polled 99% are confident in the direction of the team, which I suppose, does mean they are at the top of the AFC South in more ways than one.FanPulse SB Nation Question:Each fanbase answered questions about their team and also this question about how the NFL should fix overtime. Amazingly 52% of people polled have never witnessed how exciting a college overtime game is and a total of 53% of people responded with the incorrect answer (that’s a joke, relax. Unless you’re in the 53% and then I suggest watching more college football). So far FanPulse has provided us with great insight of how fans of other teams are feeling about their team and as a result how fans of other teams are viewing the Colts. Do you feel that the Colts are being disrespected? How are you feeling about the other AFC South teams? If you were in charge how would you fix the NFL’s overtime problem?
