Victor Oladipo scored 32 points and the Indiana Pacers held off Cleveland’s second-half rally for a stunning 98-80 victory Sunday in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference series Derrius Guice Color Rush Jersey , handing LeBron James and the Cavaliers‘ their first loss in the opening round in eight years.
Indiana was in control from the outset, opening a 21-point lead in the first quarter and leading by 23 in the third. The Cavs stormed back and got within seven, but Oladipo hit a big 3-pointer and Bojan Bogdanovic helped put Cleveland away with a 3 to make it 88-71.
The Pacers completely outplayed the three-time defending conference champions, whose turbulent regular season has carried over into the playoffs.
Game 2 is Wednesday night.
James scored 24 with 12 assists and 10 rebounds for his 20th career triple-double. But James got little help as Cleveland’s four other starters – Kevin Love, Jeff Green, Rodney Hood and George Hill – combined for 25 points.
This is all new to James, who had won 21 consecutive first-round games and lost a postseason for the first time in his 13th playoffs. The 33-year-old is trying to get to his eighth straight Finals, and already the path is tougher than imagined.
Cleveland had won 14 straight first-round games, last losing on April 22, 2010, the last season of James’ first stint with the Cavs. Indiana was swept by Cleveland in last year’s opening round.

BOSTON (AP) – Al Horford had 24 points and 12 rebounds and Boston overcame Khris Middleton’s long 3 that beat the fourth-quarter buzzer to top Milwaukee in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference series.
The Celtics led 99-96 with 0.5 seconds left in regulation when Middleton took an inbounds pass on the far right wing and hit a contested 35-footer.
Terry Rozier added 23 points, four rebounds and three assists for Boston in his first career playoff start. Jaylen Brown finished with 20 points, and rookie Jayson Tatum added 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 35 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists before fouling out in overtime. Middleton had 31 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Game 2 is Tuesday night in Boston.
ROCKETS 104, TIMBERWOLVES 101
HOUSTON (AP) – James Harden scored 44 points and powered a big fourth-quarter run that allowed Houston to outlast Minnesota in Game 1 of the first-round playoff series.
Minnesota scored four straight points to get within 3 with about 30 seconds left. Chris Paul added two free throws after that for Houston, but a tip-in by Karl-Anthony Towns got Minnesota back within 3. After a bad pass by Paul gave Minnesota a chance to tie with 1.5 seconds left, Jimmy Butler’s shot was short.
The top-seeded Rockets had their hands full with the No. 8 Timberwolves on a night where Houston made just 10 of 37 3-pointers. Harden made 7 of 12 3-pointers, but Trevor Ariza, P.J. Tucker, Eric Gordon and Paul combined to make just 3 of their 22 tries.
Houston kept All-Star big man Towns in check, limiting him to just eight points. Andrew Wiggins scored 18 points to lead Minnesota.
Game 2 is Wednesday night in Houston.
THUNDER 116 Jerome Baker Color Rush Jersey , JAZZ 108
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Paul George scored 36 points to help Oklahoma City beat Utah in Game 1 of the Western Conference series.
George set an Oklahoma City playoff record with eight 3-pointers, blowing past the previous record of five. He made 8 of 11 shots from long range, and 13 of 20 shots overall. It was his first playoff game with the Thunder since being acquired in a trade with Indiana in the offseason.
Russell Westbrook had 29 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists, and Carmelo Anthony added 15 points for the Thunder Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell had 27 points and 10 rebounds, but he left in the second half with left foot soreness. He returned in the fourth quarter but was noticeably hobbling.
Game 2 is Wednesday night in Oklahoma City.
Chris Ballard stuck to the basics on draft weekend.
The Indianapolis Colts general manager started up front and worked his way back.
Along the way, Ballard found more protection for injured quarterback Andrew Luck, new and perhaps better pieces to fit the Colts' revamped defense and finally some skill players to lower the burden on Luck.
The question remains 鈥?will it be enough to get the Colts back on track?
"You wish you could address every single need at a greater level," team owner Jim Irsay on Saturday, the final day of draft weekend.
"There are areas we still need to strengthen up, there's no question about that. But it's going to be interesting to see just how much better we are. If Andrew Luck is healthy, and we think he will be Adidas James Neal Jersey , we're going to have a pretty formidable football team. That's the bottom line."
The biggest strides were made in areas that have been problematic for years 鈥?the offensive and defensive lines.
Ballard indicated as much by repeatedly emphasizing how the offensive and defensive lines would be cornerstone features of the Colts' rebuild.
So instead of making flashy moves on the first two days, Ballard skipped right over skill position players and bided his time until Saturday.
He wound up getting two of the best guards in this draft class, Quenton Nelson at No. 6 overall and Braden Smith at No. 37, and defensive ends Kemoko Turay and Tyquan Lewis as part of four second-round picks.
It was all part of Ballard's plan.
He added two receivers, Reece Fountain and Deon Cain, and two running backs, the speedy Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins, with Indy's first four picks on Day 3. Ballard closed it out by adding two inside linebackers in the seventh round.
Now all the Colts can do is wait to see how it all pans out.
"Our main focus was to get some young talent on the fronts and I think we did that," Ballard said.
TRADING PLACES
Ballard made his first and biggest trade last month when he sent the No. 3 pick to the Jets and moved back three spots. In return, he wound up with two extra second-round picks this year and another in 2019.
He was far from finished. Ballard made four other deals over the past three days and finished the weekend making a franchise-record 11 picks in a seven-round draft.
Indy traded the 49th pick to Philadelphia, moving back three spots and got an extra fifth-rounder. Ballard then sent third and sixth-round picks to Cleveland to add a fourth second-rounder. Then the Colts swapped fifth-round picks with Oakland, moving down 19 spots to get a sixth-rounder and finally traded defensive end Henry Anderson to the Jets for a seventh-rounder.
HE SAID IT
"I just feel like I'm just an overlooked guy. I'm really Los Angeles Chargers Jerseys Womens , really overlooked. Obviously being at an FCS school, that is one of the reasons why," said Fountain, who played at Northern Iowa. "I really sure that I'm the biggest steal of the draft."
HINES VERSATILITY
Hines posted the fastest 40-yard dash (4.38 seconds) among running backs at the NFL's annual scouting combine.
He could be a lot more than just a breakaway back. Hines was recruited out of high school as a receiver and also returned kicks at North Carolina State. Because of his versatility, he's been compared with Darren Sproles. Hines has embraced the comparison and could be a major upgrade for a team in need of playmakers.
"I can catch the ball, I can run the ball, I can do kickoff returns and punt returns," he said. "So you can expect to see me in different positions and hopefully making plays from different positions."
STILL NEED
Only time will tell how many holes Ballard plugged this weekend. There's still work left to do.
Indy remains thin at linebacker especially on the outside if John Simon and Tarell Basham remain at defensive end. The Colts didn't address the secondary at all, could still use an upgrade at right tackle and may be on the lookout for another receiver.
.
The McCourty twins are back together.
The Cleveland Browns traded cornerback Jason McCourty to the New England Patriots on Thursday Deadrin Senat Color Rush Jersey , reuniting him with his brother Devin. The Browns also sent a seventh-round pick to the Patriots to get a sixth-rounder in return.
"Cleveland it's been real!" Jason McCourty wrote on the Twitter account the brothers share. "I wish nothing but the best to the guys in that locker room!"
The Browns have been one of the most active teams in the NFL this offseason as they try to rebuild from last season's 0-16 record. They have already traded for quarterback Tyrod Taylor and three-time Pro Bowl receiver Jarvis Landry, while signing seven free agents, including running back Carlos Hyde.
They also made a deal on Wednesday to send defensive lineman Danny Shelton to New England for a third-round pick in 2019. But the defending AFC champion Patriots have mostly been losing players, including receiver Danny Amendola, left tackle Nate Solder, defensive back Malcolm Butler and running back Dion Lewis.
After spending his first eight seasons with Tennessee, Jason McCourty, 30, started 14 games and led the Browns with three interceptions and made 65 tackles last season, the most for any player in the secondary.
He became a locker room leader, but also ruffled feathers by saying the team never should have gone winless after both coach Hue Jackson and new general manager John Dorsey bemoaned the team's lack of talent.
"The talent in this locker room is not the talent to go win a Super Bowl this year, but this locker room is far more talented than 0-16," Jason McCourty said following the season-ending loss in Pittsburgh.
"I'm kind of tired of hearing so many people say, even within the organization Youth Daniel Kilgore Jersey , is we don't have the guys or we need more guys. Let's work with the guys we do have and find ways to win games."
Also Thursday, the Patriots re-signed running back Rex Burkhead. A 2013 sixth-round draft pick who spent his first four seasons with the Bengals, Burkhead has run for 639 yards and eight touchdowns and caught 64 passes for 542 yards and four touchdowns in his career.
Sixteen years into his NFL career and just four months before his 36th birthday, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs darts around the field like a kid in a pickup game.
"I still love it," Suggs said Thursday at the conclusion of minicamp. "It's still my playground. That's where I get to be myself."
Football has never been a chore for Suggs, the Ravens' sack leader with 125陆. He works hard at his craft, but he perceives his rigorous offseason regimen over the past two years to be a small sacrifice to maintain a high level of excellence.
"We stepped it up," he said. "As you get older, you have to really listen to your body."
The results were on full display this week at Baltimore's mandatory minicamp. Suggs' arms bulged with muscles, and his quickness did not escape the notice of coach John Harbaugh.
"The guy is in phenomenal shape. He's at another level of conditioning," Harbaugh said. "He's on a mission, and I think he's headed for the Hall of Fame. I want to see that statement made this year, next year and for as long as he plays."
Former Ravens star Ray Lewis will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this summer, and Suggs has a legitimate chance to join him there one day.
That Tremaine Edmunds Jersey Bills , however, is not what motivates Suggs to perform at his best.
"One thing I learned from the Hall of Famers on this team is that they never really chased the Hall of Fame," Suggs said. "There was nothing more important than what they were doing at the moment. I can't practice every practice or play every play like, 'Oh, I'm trying to get into the Hall of Fame.' If it happens, God willing, it will happen. But that's not the No. 1 important thing in my life right now."
His goal is to get another Super Bowl ring. And, of course, to have a blast during that pursuit.
"I really couldn't picture myself doing anything else," Suggs said. "You know what they say: If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. So I'm pretty much still having fun as a kid."
Now entering his 11th season, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has never known a time in Baltimore when Suggs wasn't there.
"I feel like he's 2 years older than me, yet somehow he's been in the league for 20 years," Flacco said with a grin. "It speaks volumes for what kind of person he is Eagles Game Jerseys , what kind of player he is. He's a special player. I've definitely been lucky to be around a handful of those types of guys, and one of them is going into the Hall of Fame in a couple of months."
When Lewis approached the end of his career, he formally announced, "This will be my last ride," as the 2012 season approached its conclusion.
That's not Suggs' style.
"I'll never do that. I don't think I'll ever be able to say that going in," he said. "It will probably be one day, I'll wake up ..."
After a slight pause, Suggs added, "I don't think I'll never not love it. I didn't choose this. I was born, and this is what I am. We'll just take it one year at a time."
Someone asked Suggs, whose nickname is "T-Sizzle," whether there was ever a particular offseason in which he pondered retirement.
"Some of them I was coming off significant injuries or a down year, and you don't want to end it like that," Suggs said. "So when I was hurt Authentic Courtland Sutton Jersey , or didn't perform the way I wanted to, that never crossed my mind. It was, 'Nah, that wasn't a Sizzle year.' When that day does come, it will end on a Sizzle year."
NOTES: Flacco is the starting quarterback, but former Louisville star Lamar Jackson, drafted in the first round, took the majority of snaps at practice Thursday. "Putting the pressure on him to have to run the whole practice, operate the offense, was valuable. He handled himself pretty well," Harbaugh said. ... Flacco said he will find a time before training camp to hone the passing game with his new crop of receivers. "It's going to be a lot of fun. It will be good for us," Flacco said.

Adalberto Mondesi is back with the Kansas City Royals as part of a roster shuffle.
The Royals made six moves Sunday before playing Houston.
Mondesi http://www.saintsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-marcus-davenport-jersey , the first player to make his major league debut in a World Series game, was recalled from Triple-A Omaha.
The Royals also called up outfielder Rosell Herrera and purchased the contract of right-hander Wily Peralta from Omaha. They optioned right-hander Scott Barlow and infielder Ramon Torres to their Pacific Coast League affiliate. They transferred left-handed pitcher Eric Skoglund to the 60-day disabled list.
Mondesi struck out as a pinch-hitter in the 2015 World Series against the New York Mets. He was once the Royals’ top prospect, but has been derailed by injuries and a 50-game drug suspension in 2016.
The 22-year-old opened the 2017 season as Kansas City’s starting second baseman, but was sent back to the minors after hitting .109 in his first 14 games. Mondesi, the son of former major league outfielder Raul Mondesi, has a .181 batting average with 60 strikeouts in 188 at-bats in 72 games in the majors.
”He’s never had success up here,” Royals manager Ned Yost said. ”He’s a young guy. You just try to pace him a little bit, play a couple of games here, a couple of games there and get his feet on the ground, let him start to have some success Chris Taylor Jersey , which we all know he’s going to have, just let him ease into that.”
Yost said he plans to play Mondesi about four days a week.
”Every year he’s been hurt, so that’s the concern,” Yost said. ”We want to try to get him through the year healthy. We wanted to get Mondesi back playing and get him up here, again to get some of our younger kids up that we’re going to move forward with up here and gaining that experience.”
Mondesi hit .250 with 16 extra-base hits, 21 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 29 games at Triple-A.
The Royals claimed Herrera off waivers from Cincinnati on June 2. He hit .278 in 10 games with Omaha. He went 2 for 11 in 13 games earlier this season with the Reds.
”Herrera is very athletic,” Yost said. ”As an organization we haven’t seen him that much. He can play multiple positions. He can play all three positions in the outfield, can play some third base. It will be interesting to get a look at him.”
Peralta, a 17-game winner in 2014 with Milwaukee, signed with the Royals on December 5 as a free agent Fred Warner Jersey 49ers , but in spring training allowed 14 runs on 16 hits, including four home runs, and eight walks over eight innings. He began the year in the minors and posted a 4.37 ERA in 18 outings with Omaha, but had a 1.96 ERA on his last nine outings.
”Our whole goal with (Brandon) Maurer and Peralta was to get them throwing good and get them back here. That has been the case,” Yost said.
As promised, former Louisville quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson spent Saturday at the NFL scouting combine slinging it and not winging it.
Jackson didn't show off a big arm like Wyoming's Josh Allen, the other prime prospect in his throwing group Saturday.
But nobody else did, either: Allen wowed the coaches with a 66-yard pinpoint pass at one point during the first of two sessions with the quarterbacks and wide receivers at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Jackson, though, was much more explosive than Allen was in his drops http://www.redskinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-pernell-mcphee-jersey , consistently getting 7 yards deep on five-step drills whereas Allen made up for his poorer footwork with his superior arm strength.
Widely considered the best running quarterback since Michael Vick but a thrower who still needs polish, Jackson shook off some apparent jitters to show off a good enough passing prowess to justify his reticence to switch to wide receiver.
Jackson never caught a single pass at Louisville, where he threw for 9,043 yards and 69 touchdowns, ran for 4,132 yards and 50 TDs in 38 games. On Friday, he dismissed widespread speculation about him running routes with the receivers here.
"No sir. I'm a quarterback," he said.
The buzz began building when former Colts executive Bill Polian told ESPN he thought Jackson should switch to receiver because he's not as accurate, tall or strong as the other hopefuls in this year's deep class of college quarterbacks. Polian suggested Jackson should make the switch sooner than did Terrelle Pryor, the ex-Ohio State QB who switched to wide receiver at age 26.
Such a notion was met by skepticism from several teams this week Greg Maddux Jersey , and Jackson said he won't switch positions even if asked.
"No sir," he said, "I'm a quarterback."
And he said he's not interested in just running wildcat plays, where he'd take the direct snap and zip around the tackle, either.
"No wildcat," Jackson said. "This is not the Dolphins with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. No sir."
While USC's Sam Darnold chose not to throw at the combine because he'd rather show off his arm with his own receivers at USC's upcoming pro day, Jackson decided not to run the 40-yard dash.
"Film speaks for itself as far as showing off my speed and showing I can make people miss," Jackson said. "I've just got to show off my arm 鈥?because that's where they're doubting me."
He assuaged some of those concerns Saturday.

Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton gave New York a scare with an awkward fall in right field. An inning later Youth Brandon Parker Jersey , he showed everyone in the Bronx that he was just fine.
Stanton, Aaron Hicks and Kyle Higashioka each homered and New York went ahead early and hung on to beat the Atlanta Braves 8-5 on Tuesday night.
Stanton was shaken up after crashing into the right field wall chasing after Nick Markakis‘ seventh-inning home run. He knocked padding off the base of the wall, and the team’s training staff ran out to check on New York’s prized offseason acquisition a pitch later. Stanton remained in the game, made a leaping catch later in the inning, then slugged his 20th home run of the season in the eighth.
”That’s par for the course, that’s baseball,” Stanton said. ”If you get subbed in, you usually get the ball the first time, so Authentic Sam Hubbard Jersey , something like that happens, expect it.”
Stanton’s homer gave New York some breathing room after the Braves crept on its early lead. His two-run shot off Evan Phillips made him the 11th player to reach 20 homers in each of his first nine major league seasons. Phillips was making his major league debut.
New York is a major league-best 32-13 at home. The Yankees improved to a majors-best 21-6 against left-handed starters and remain a game behind Boston for the best record in baseball.
Aaron Judge had two hits and a walk, and he stole two bases for the first time in his career. Hicks also walked twice as New York drew eight free passes.
Markakis and Ender Inciarte each hit two-run homers for Atlanta, which ended a four-game winning streak. The Braves remain atop the NL East but fell behind the Brewers for the best record in the NL.
A night after Atlanta rookie Ronald Acuna Jr. barely cleared the wall to give Atlanta an 11-inning victory, the Yankees took advantage of their cozy stadium.
Hicks continued his home run binge by hitting Sean Newcomb’s 95 mph fastball two rows into the right field stands for his 15th of the season and a 2-0 lead in the first. Hicks has hit nine home runs in his last 17 games.
”He’s put together a really good season for us and right now, he’s at a really, really good place in the batter’s box,” Boone said.
Newcomb (8-3) stood on the mound shaking his head after the ball carried over the fence. The left-hander allowed five runs in 2 2/3 innings in the shortest start of his career. Newcomb had posted three straight quality starts but threw a career-high 111 pitches his last time out.
”Balls kind of get sucked up out there, so that’s frustrating Youth Dante Pettis Jersey ,” he said.
New York scored twice in the third without a hit. Newcomb walked the bases loaded, then walked Brandon Drury to force in a run. Luke Jackson relieved, but he walked Higashioka for another run. Newcomb’s five walks matched a career high.
”He was just having a hard time controlling everything,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said.
Staked with a six-run cushion, Yankees starter Domingo German tired in the fifth. After Johan Camargo walked, Inciarte crushed a curveball into the stands for his sixth of the season.
Rookie Ozzie Albies homered on the next pitch to draw Atlanta within three. Freddie Freeman and Markakis hit consecutive singles to end German’s night. Atlanta hit back-to-back homers for just the third time this season.
A.J. Cole, reinstated off the disabled list earlier in the day, struck out Tyler Flowers with the bases loaded to end the threat. Since being acquired from Washington on April 23, Cole (2-0) has allowed one earned run in 14 2/3 innings.
In the eighth Cheap Kolton Miller Jersey , Chasen Shreve relieved with runners on first and second and one out and retired Inciarte and Albies to preserve a one-run lead.
Aroldis Chapman threw a scoreless ninth for his 23rd save. The hard-throwing closer was used in three straight games for the first time this season.
HAILEY’S HANDS
Eight-year old Hailey Dawson threw out the ceremonial first pitch with her 3D printed hand created by students at UNLV. Dawson was born with Poland Syndrome, a rare birth defect that left the youngster without the three middle fingers on her right hand. She has been on a quest to throw a first pitch for each MLB team.
HOMERING HIGASHIOKA
Higashioka became the third player in franchise history to homer for his first two big league hits, joining Alfonso Soriano (1999-2000) and Joe Lefebvre (1980).
TRAINER’S ROOM
Yankees: INF Gleyber Torres (right hip stiffness) was held out of the starting lineup. The sensational rookie ”stiffened up” Monday night, according to manager Aaron Boone, but entered as a defensive replacement in the eighth. … RHP Masahiro Tanaka remains scheduled for a rehab start with Triple-A Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday. Boone is hopeful Tanaka will throw between 65 and 75 pitches. … C Austin Romine (left hamstring) was held out of the starting lineup for a third straight night

The NBA has fined Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri $25,000 for walking onto the court at halftime of Game 3 against the Cleveland Cavaliers to verbally confront officials for reversing a call.
The league announced the fine Sunday. It stems from an incident that occurred Saturday night during the Raptors’ 105-103 loss to the Cavaliers.
Toronto had been called for 14 fouls in the first half, compared with eight for Cleveland. The Raptors were irate that what had appeared to be a Serge Ibaka basket and potential free throw was downgraded to a foul with no basket and no free throw.
All-Star DeMar DeRozan, coach Dwane Casey and his assistants all screamed at the referees.
Game 4 is Monday night in Cleveland. Toronto, which is trailing the series 3-0, needs a win to stay alive in the Eastern Conference semifinal.

This story has been corrected to show that the incident for which Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri was fined occurred in Game 3, not Game 5.

For Clemson receiver Deon Cain Antonio Senzatela Colorado Rockies Jersey , there's nothing tedious about all the timing and testing at the NFL scouting combine.
"It's a great feeling because I'm starting to get into this professional life and I'm loving it every day," Cain said.
Cain impressed coaches Saturday with his superior speed and great hands, traits that were particularly apparent in the gauntlet drill at Lucas Oil Stadium.
That's where receivers stand on one sideline, spin and catch a pass from 10 yards away, then spin and catch one from the other direction. Then, they sprint toward the other sideline, catching five more 10-yard passes from alternating directions before coming back the other way, catching another seven throws.
While Cain was eager to show off his skills Saturday during the on-field sessions with quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends, he said he's actually enjoyed every aspect of the annual gathering of top college prospects.
"This combine experience has been fun for me. At the end of the day, I love every moment about it," Cain said. "Just trying to take everything day by day, going through this process, talking to coaches Mike McGlinchey Youth Jersey , meeting new people, being around Hall of Famers every day."
Cain had a goal of running a sub-4.4-second 40-yard dash after all the speed work he did over the last six weeks at the Exos performance center in Phoenix, where he added 10 pounds of lean muscle to his 6-foot-1 frame.
He did just that, posting a time of 4.3 seconds Saturday before showing off his route-running skills during the hour-long session that included top-tier quarterbacks Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson .
"I feel like Exos really prepared me for this moment," said Cain, who also posted respectable jumps 鈥?33陆 inches in the vertical and 9 feet, 7 inches in the broad. "We train hard, train well with great efficiency, prepping me for interviews and everything. I feel like they gave us the upper hand, the answers to the test out here and now it's just a routine.
"I'm out here trying my best out here and just trying to do what I know I'm capable of doing."
Cain, a projected second-day draft pick, played three seasons at Clemson and was productive receiver for a team that made three playoff appearances and played in two national championship games.
Cain played in only one of those national championship games. After the regular season of his freshman year, he was suspended for the College Football Playoff by Tigers coach Dabo Swinney for failing a drug test for marijuana.
Knowing that would come up in interviews with teams this week, Cain prepared to face the scrutiny with honesty Authentic Cam Fowler Jersey , eager to show that's not an issue teams need to worry about.
"It's been great so far, really just getting to know all the coaches, let them get a good feel of me, and just show them that I'm smart off the field, smart on the field and I know football both ways, and really just let them get feel of me," Cain said.
On the field, he said he's showing teams he's versatile, coachable and confident yet humble.
"I can do it all. If you want me to play inside, outside. If you want me to go down and block, I can do anything. I said I'm capable of doing anything," he said.
And he pledged to never stop trying to improve.
"Now that I'm going on to the next level, I always want to be better and more technically sound because now you're just going against way better DBs now," Cain said.
Whoever picks him Jason Sanders Color Rush Jersey , he said, will "get an efficient, hard worker, someone who will go hard every play. I'm just going to be me out there, as long as they let me be me and coach me the right way, they're going to get a great receiver."

The Indians caught a lucky break. Carlos Carrasco is only bruised.
An MRI taken Monday revealed that Cleveland’s steady starter only suffered a bruised right elbow when he was struck by a vicious line drive on Saturday against Minnesota.
”We dodged a huge bullet,” said relieved Indians manager Terry Francona.
Carrasco, who has previously sustained serious injuries after being hit by comebackers, will be treated for swelling over the next 48 hours before being evaluated on Wednesday.
At this point, it’s expected that Carrasco will return to the rotation and mound once his stint on the disabled list ends.
”He still got hit really hard and there’s some trauma,” Francona said before the Indians opened a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox. ”The hope would be, once he gets the swelling out of there, that he’ll come quick because it’s a bruise and it could have been a lot worse.”
In the second inning on Saturday, Twins star Joe Mauer hit a line drive that Carrasco couldn’t avoid. The 31-year-old Cheap Derwin James Jersey , who has been one of the AL’s most consistent pitchers the past three seasons, braced himself before absorbing the liner. He was forced to leave the game and taken to the hospital.
Carrrasco has a history of being hit on the mound. He was struck in the face in 2015 and then missed the 2016 playoffs after breaking his hand, a blow that left the Indians short one of their top pitchers during their run to the World Series.
But despite Carrasco’s track record of being a target, Francona isn’t worried about the 31-year-old showing any jitters when he pitches.
”He’s been hit before and you think, `OK will it bother him?”’ Francona said. ”He’s been hit before so I think he’s champing at the bit to get this out of there and start pitching again. It’s easy to tell him, `Hey, don’t worry about it.’ I’m not the one standing out there.
”This is fourth time, and I’ve never seen any ill effects before and I don’t anticipate any going forward. I think he’s just glad that it’s a bruise and see how quick he can get better.”
Francona chalked up Carrasco’s mound misfortune to bad luck.
”I do think there are pitchers that put themselves in a position where they are not able to field their position, but Carlos is fine,” Francona said. ”He lands flat and he’s in a really good position, most of the time. The fact that he could get his hand up and kind of block it and not hit somewhere else.”

Lucas Giolito was rolling, feeling as comfortable as he has all season. It was just what the White Sox needed.
Giolito pitched into the eighth inning before Xavier Cedeno worked out of a jam, and Chicago snapped an eight-game losing streak by beating the Oakland Athletics 6-4 Friday night to salvage a doubleheader split.
The White Sox bounced back after getting pounded 11-2 behind a pair of three-run homers by Franklin Barreto. They stopped their worst skid since a nine-game rut last July and ended Oakland’s season-high win streak at five.
”Definitely the best I felt out there this year, for sure,” Giolito said. ”I think velocity was up a tick. Just felt right, felt in sync and just competed from there.”
Chicago was sailing along with a 5-2 lead when Giolito gave up back-to-back singles to Dustin Fowler and Marcus Semien to start the eighth. Jace Fry came in and walked pinch-hitter Stephen Piscotty to load the bases before Chris Volstad gave up a two-run single to Khris Davis, cutting it to 5-4.
Cedeno then got Matt Olson to line to shortstop Tim Anderson and struck out Mark Canha before Chad Pinder grounded into a force.
”We just came up one at-bat short in terms of at least tying the game that inning,” Oakland manager Bob Melvin said.
Anderson led off the bottom half with his 12th homer to make it a two-run game. Omar Narvaez chipped in with three hits and two RBIs for Chicago. Adam Engel hit a two-run single and played a sparkling center field. He made a diving catch on Pinder’s liner in the second and fired a strike to nail Pinder trying to take third on Barreto’s fly in the seventh.
Joakim Soria retired all three batters in the ninth for his 11th save in 13 opportunities.
Giolito (5-7) allowed four runs and seven hits in a rare home win. The 23-year-old right-hander struck out eight and walked two after going 1-4 with an 11.05 ERA in his first seven starts at Guaranteed Rate Field.
”A lot more conviction in his pitches,” manager Rick Renteria said.
Olson went deep for Oakland Broncos Authentic Jerseys , giving the Athletics home runs in 23 consecutive road games – one shy of the modern day record set by Baltimore in 1996. But Chris Bassitt (0-3) got tagged for five runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings.
FOR STARTERS
Barreto’s big performance in the opener came after he hit a three-run drive in Wednesday’s romp at San Diego.
He connected against James Shields to cap a four-run second inning and off Luis Avilan in the eighth . Barreto’s first career multihomer game gave him a personal-best six RBIs.
It was quite a display for a player who had just two home runs prior to this run. Both came against the White Sox in 2017, including a drive against Shields (2-9) at Guaranteed Rate Field in his first major league game.
”We all know he’s got that in him,” Melvin said. ”It’s just about getting him some consistent at-bats. When he’s swinging the bat well, he’s definitely capable of doing that.”
Sean Manaea (7-6) went seven innings, allowing one run and five hits. The 26-year-old left-hander struck out seven without a walk in winning his second straight start.
Shields has dropped back-to-back outings after beating Cleveland for his first victory since opening day. The right-hander gave up eight runs – two earned – and five hits in 4 2/3 innings.

With another dominant pitching performance Authentic Cliff Pennington Jersey , the Houston Astros didn’t need much offense – or luck – to tie a franchise record for road wins.
Lance McCullers pitched seven strong innings, Jake Marisnick homered and the Astros beat the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 Thursday night for their 11th straight victory away from home.
McCullers (9-3) gave up three hits while striking out seven. The Astros have won his last six starts and have won 18 of 21 overall. Their latest win matched the club record set last May 14-June 5 on the way to winning the franchise’s first World Series title.
The Rays threatened in the eighth after Chris Devenski replaced McCullers to start the inning. Willy Adames and Kevin Kiermaier opened with singles to put runners at the corners. Matt Duffy failed to get a squeeze bunt down and then, with Kiermaier running, hit a rocket right at shortstop Marwin Gonzalez, who turned it into an easy double play.
”You are going to line out sometimes, it’s part of the game Cassius Marsh Color Rush Jersey ,” Duffy said. ”Not executing (the bunt) is definitely what I’m most frustrated with.”
Jake Bauers then grounded out to end the inning with Devenski getting his 12th straight scoreless appearance.
”We were very fortunate to just get in that situation, and then Devo makes some pitches and gets out of the tnning,” Houston manager A.J. Hinch said.
Hector Rondon pitched the ninth for his fifth save in seven opportunities, ending Tampa Bay’s five-game winning streak.
Marisnick’s homer in the fifth came off Ryan Yarbrough (7-4) and was his seventh of the season. It ended the Rays’ streak of 26 scoreless innings, the second-longest in franchise history.
It was the second homer and second multi-hit game in the last three days for Marisnick, who batted ninth for Houston.
”I’m just kind of relaxing and settling in Clive Walford Color Rush Jersey , having a better idea of what I’m trying to do with each individual pitcher,” he said.
Tampa Bay ”bullpen day” starter Ryne Stanek walked two and struck out three in 1 2/3 hitless innings before Yarbrough took over. The rookie left-hander pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits while striking out four.
The Rays, who beat Washington 1-0 on Tuesday, became the first American League team team to play consecutive 1-0 games in the same season since the Los Angeles Angels did it on June 28-29, 2008.
AWARD TIME
Rays reliever Jose Alvarado had a mini Gold Glove Award in his locker Taven Bryan Youth Jersey , a gift from a stadium security guard after the left-hander played one batter at first base in-between stints on the mound during the ninth inning of Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Washington. ”It was a little bit crazy,” Alvarado said through a translator. ”I’m just happy the team won.”
TRAINER’S ROOM

Thomas Vanek learned early in his career how tough it is to win in the playoffs.
When Vanek and the Buffalo Sabres beat the Philadelphia Flyers in six games in 2006 to advance http://www.buffalobillsteamonline.com/jim-kelly-jersey , the rookie winger looked across the locker room at 37-year-old Teppo Numminen, who was on the verge of tears. Numminen had never made it out of the first round in his previous 16 NHL seasons and was overjoyed.
”It hit me right there and then, `Man this is hard,”’ Vanek said.
Vanek is now on the other side. In the playoffs for the seventh time, he is the Columbus Blue Jackets‘ oldest player at 34. Just like Rick Nash in Boston, postseason struggles and inconsistencies have followed Vanek his entire career. Based on his play down the stretch and in Game 1 against Washington, he looks poised for some playoff redemption.
”A very consistent scorer throughout his year and has a lot to prove and wants to win the Stanley Cup,” Columbus general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said Friday. ”That’s why he’s excited to be here. He wants to prove people wrong, if they think that he can’t do it in the playoffs. He wants to show that he can, and he had a good start.”
Vanek had a goal and an assist to help the Blue Jackets take a 1-0 series lead on the Capitals, and young teammate Artemi Panarin scored the game-winner to finish with three points – two more than he had in Chicago’s first-round sweep at the hands of the Predators a year ago. Kekalainen pointed out Panarin was a point-a-game player for the Blackhawks in the playoffs two years ago, so hold up on the reputation rehab there.
The same goes for Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov, who has been up and down in the playoffs. The 25-year-old from the same town in Russia as Panarin already has more goals in one game this year than he did in the 2016 playoffs Authentic Cliff Pennington Jersey , when Washington lost in the second round.
Vanek and Nash know they’re running out of time to win the Cup and make a difference on that journey.
Nash, who drew two penalties and played over 17 minutes in his return from injury in the Bruins’ Game 1 blowout of the Maple Leafs, has seen his goal production drop by half from the regular season to the playoffs over the course of his career. The 33-year-old trade-deadline pickup should get plenty of chances to show he can still be a playoff performer.
”He’s an important player for us,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. ”That deal was made for a reason. He’s an elite player … makes us more of a threat (as) a team. He’s just a proven player in this league that can finish, that can win pucks and get to the net.”
Getting to the net has never been a problem for Vanek, whose power-play goal in Game 1 came from crashing the crease. But he hasn’t always found it easy to score in the playoffs and has struggled with a minus-16 rating in six previous appearances with the Sabres, Canadiens and Wild.
Vanek didn’t know how he would fit in with Columbus, though the reviews from coach John Tortorella are positive – and honest. Vanek’s propensity for defensive miscues and mistakes with the puck, and his sometimes frustrating inconsistencies, have given Tortorella and others grey hairs.
”I think he really is thriving and is excited about the role he has, that he was and we were in a playoff hunt and now he’s in the playoffs,” Tortorella said. ”I can see why he gives coaches nightmares in some of the things he does. I get that. But I think sometimes you need to ignore some of that and allow him to play and not get in his way. I think he’s been terrific.”
Several times leading up to the start of the playoffs and even after his goal, Vanek was asked about making an important contribution in the playoffs. Each time he changed the subject to the need for someone James Washington Jersey Steelers , anyone, on the team to have success.
”You can tell how excited everyone is,” Vanek said. ”It doesn’t matter if you score or not.”
Scoring or not, making a long run a reality would be Vanek’s real redemption.

鈥?Although the Los Angeles Chargers’ offense is constantly running over its opponents these days, Philip Rivers wasn’t sure how he ended up as a lead blocker for receiver Travis Benjamin on a 22-yard reverse run .“Gracious, I’ve never been this far down the field in my life since high school,” Rivers thought to himself as he looked for somebody to hit 鈥?and his coaches cringed. But just about everything the Chargers do is working out well lately. After a 30-13 rout of the Redskins on Sunday for their fourth straight victory, they’re finding themselves in prime position to compete for a playoff spot. After their 0-4 start, that’s something that seemed even more unlikely than Rivers becoming a blocker.Rivers passed for 319 yards and two touchdowns, and the Chargers continued their ferocious playoff push with their seventh win in nine games.Tyrell Williams caught a 75-yard touchdown pass and Hunter Henry had another scoring grab for the Chargers (7-6), who have been largely outstanding ever since that rocky start to their relocation season. This one wasn’t in much doubt for the Chargers as they took a 24-point lead and racked up 429 yards of offense midway through the third quarter.“It’s exactly where we want to be,” said Williams, who had four catches for 132 yards. “We hold our own destiny.”While outscoring their opponents 131-53 during their winning streak Joel Iyiegbuniwe Jersey Bears , the Chargers also moved above .500 for the first time since September 2015 with a dominant offensive performance against Washington. With their fourth straight home victory, the Chargers stayed atop the AFC West alongside the Chiefs (7-6), their opponents Saturday in Kansas City.“I want players to always know what they’re playing for, and right now, we’re playing for our division,” Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said.Kirk Cousins hit Vernon Davis with an early TD pass for the Redskins (5-8), who have lost two straight and six of eight. Washington was officially eliminated from playoff contention with three games to go, and this effort rankled several veterans.“There’s no excuse why we’re playing like this, because we’ve played good in the past,” Washington safety D.J. Swearinger said. “You’ve got to prepare for when you step out on the field Sunday, or you’re going to get embarrassed. We got embarrassed today, so guys didn’t prepare. Guys didn’t take it in. … We’ve definitely taken steps back (on defense). We had 30 put on us today. Dallas put (38) on us last week. We’ve taken major steps back.”Although Bashaud Breeland returned an interception of Kellen Clemens’ pass 96 yards for a touchdown with 2:36 to play, Washington’s defense had few answers.“I’m at a loss for words Isaiah Wynn Jersey , quite honestly,” Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. “I never thought we’d get beat like this two weeks in a row.”Melvin Gordon rushed for a third-quarter score before several Los Angeles regulars took most of the fourth quarter off, banking rest for Saturday. They earned it: Rivers’ offense played with confidence and flair, executing reverses and flea-flickers while thoroughly entertaining a crowd with distinctly fewer fans of the opposition than in the Chargers’ first few games at StubHub Center.Los Angeles jumped to a 13-0 lead while scoring on its first three drives and getting a first-quarter interception by Kyle Emanuel, but Washington kept it close by forcing two field goals. But on the Chargers’ first snap after Davis’ TD catch, Rivers hit Williams deep downfield for an untouched, 75-yard score.MISSED CHANCELos Angeles had a 23-6 lead when it drove 81 yards in the final 1:25 before halftime. The Chargers only missed out on even more points because Austin Ekeler was tackled on a 33-yard run at the Washington 4 as time ran out. Lynn blamed Ekeler for risking a run to end zone despite knowing he needed to get down.KEENAN AGAINKeenan Allen had six catches for 111 yards in his quietest performance during the Bolts’ four-game winning streak. He still set single-season career highs for receptions and yards during the first half for Los Angeles.BIG PHILRivers passed for 256 yards in the first half. He also moved ahead of Warren Moon for ninth place in NFL history in career yards passing. During the four-game winning streak, Rivers has passed for 1,348 yards with eight touchdowns and no interceptions.INJURIESRedskins: Kick returner Byron Marshall’s leg buckled underneath him while he moved to field a kickoff in the first quarter. He injured his hamstring and didn’t return. … Key LB Zach Brown sprained his toe in the second half and left in a walking boot. He blamed the StubHub Center turf: “That field is crap. It’s made for soccer.” … LB Chris Carter broke his leg in the second half.Chargers: Left tackle Russell Okung went down heavily in the first quarter and limped off the field with a knee injury. He returned later in the first half, however.UP NEXTRedskins: Host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.Chargers: Travel to Kansas City on short rest for a first-place showdown with the Chiefs on Saturday..
Alexander Wennberg will return to the Columbus Blue Jackets‘ lineup for Game 5 at the Washington Capitals.
Coach John Tortorella confirmed his return about an hour before puck drop on Saturday. Wennberg was back after missing Games 2 Customized San Francisco 49ers Jerseys , 3 and 4 after a hit to the head from Washington’s Tom Wilson. Tortorella says Wennberg replaces Sonny Milano in the lineup.
Wennberg, the Blue Jackets’ second-line center, had developed chemistry with Boone Jenner and Thomas Vanek before being injured. His return restores Columbus’ depth down the middle and helps on the power play.
Capitals coach Barry Trotz said if Wennberg was back in it would help the Blue Jackets but expressed confidence in his four centers – Evgeny Kuznetsov, Nicklas Backstrom, Lars Eller and Jay Beagle – to match up with any opposing line.
The teams are tied at 2-all in the series. Game 6 is Monday night in Columbus.

Football is complicated. Life is more so.
The charge for universities is to prepare students for whatever comes after they graduate. At least that is the mission statement. At places such as Northwestern and Stanford, it certainly rings true.
When those students are football players, the challenges are exacerbated. Balancing classroom obligations with the demands of big-time sports is difficult.
Doing so, though, provides substantial benefits, as those players have learned as part of the NFL's draft crop.
"That I could get into Stanford helps with football," says Harrison Phillips Larry Doby Jersey , a defensive tackle projected to go in the second round next week. "Anything worth doing in life is worth overdoing. The intellectual side of football has always been interesting to me."
Teammate and linebacker Peter Kalambayi, like Phillips, is among the 39 players on the draft boards who recently made the 2018 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society for having carried a grade-point average of 3.2 or better throughout college.
"It is definitely a lot, especially midterm and finals week. It's about understanding when you get home from practice and you are really tired and you don't want to do anything, having that discipline to do what you need. It's learning how to say no to going to social events. People hit you up and you have to tell them, 'It's not right, right now.'"
Right now, Phillips, Kalambayi and the other recognized scholar-athletes 鈥?including Cardinal teammates tackle David Bright, and Dalton Schultz 鈥?all are listed as potentially going in the three-day draft. Among the traits they would bring to the pros are exceptional study habits, discipline Joseph Noteboom Color Rush Jersey , strong retention skills and organization.
Of course, they need to have the athletic ability, and no health or off-field issues. And just because they excel in the classroom isn't an overriding reason to draft them.
"With some players there definitely was a carry-over, with others definitely not," notes former NFL general manager Phil Savage, who now procures talent for the Senior Bowl and is a SiriusXM Radio football analyst.
"We've seen prospects come out of academically inclined schools where the classwork is especially challenging and they had no edge over prospects who came out of other type schools that were not so highly rated academically.
"You have to be careful to tie it completely together. But guys who check off the boxes in the classroom who you know have worked hard and gotten good marks, it makes you feel good about their prospects. I do think it can be a positive as a prospect. Remember what is the core philosophy for the Patriots: Be in condition, know what to do and play hard."
College Football Hall of Fame member Pat Fitzgerald was an All-America linebacker at Northwestern and has been head coach there since 2006. He fit the category of star player and student, and he now gets to work with similar youngsters, the vast majority of whom won't be heading to the pros.
Fitzgerald believes the habits these players create in high school construct a foundation for their college careers as athletes and students. And then the environment they experience at Northwestern solidifies that foundation for their futures 鈥?whether they become NFL participants or doctors, lawyers Daniel Castro Colorado Rockies Jersey , businessmen, whatever.
"It begins with the expectations and standards of our program and university," Fitzgerald says. "That is our identification, who we are, and we take great pride in that. We are recruiting a young man who is an institutional fit. We place high value in a 40- to 50-year decision. It's not just playing football, it's using the university to help you be successful in life. He wants to be successful in all he does.
"Typically, the goals are very high of the young man we get to coach, and we are able to drive them and push them to newer heights. It makes for a great group collectively."
Kalambayi and Phillips stress exactly that. Performing in the classroom is as essential as doing the job on a football field 鈥?and it forms a bond with fellow athletes.
"We're fundamentally the same 鈥?we were the smartest football player at our high school," says Kalambayi, who majored in communications and minored in French; his family is from Congo.
"Coming in from different socio-economic backgrounds and from different races, we have a general understanding of each other. We're one of the closer teams because of that.
"Our humor is different than other teams; Our conversations range from politics to football to policy. The locker room is a phenomenal place 鈥?to be around those guys and learn so much from your teammates."
Phillips had two majors: sociology Youth Brian Allen Jersey , and the science of technology and society. He minored in education and graduated in December.
He reasons that his acumen for dissecting game plans and individual plays comes not only from his love for football but from his classroom skills. Phillips keeps a notebook with him and constantly writes down things he picks up at film sessions or meetings.
"I don't know how much carry-over there is, but from the football meeting rooms there's a lot of carry-over to the field," he says. "There definitely are similarities of study habits that might be the same."
When these players do move on to the NFL, they tend to remain in contact with the coaches who helped them get there. That feeds back into the college programs, Fitzgerald believes.
"The No. 1 thing guys (from Northwestern who make the NFL) tell me 鈥?midway through their first year I will text and ask them did we prepare you? 鈥?and to a man the answer is the same: 'I was over-prepared.'" He said. "The active learning environment and expectations academically, our guys take the path less traveled. We hope they achieve the goal of playing on Sunday for a long time, but that is Plan B. Plan A is life.
"Hopefully, we .

THEY DON'T NEED: RB, QB, S, CB.
POSSIBLE FIRST PICK: DT Da'Ron Payne, Alabama; DE Sam Hubbard, Ohio State; DE Arden Key, LSU; TE Hayden Hurst, South Carolina; WR D.J. Moore, Maryland; LB Rashaan Evans, Alabama.
OUTLOOK: During free agency, Saints tried to put themselves in position to draft best players available John Kelly Jersey Rams , regardless of position. Bolstered defense by signing S Kurt Coleman, CB Patrick Robinson and LB Demario Davis. Added WR Cameron Meredith and TE Ben Watson to passing game and sought to improve depth on offensive line with veteran Jermon Bushrod. However, Saints were unable to sign big-name DE or DT, so those areas could become draft priorities, particularly in light of coach Sean Payton's recent comments that improving pass rush is "a must."
Frigid Super Bowl LII brought $370 million in net new spending to the “Bold North” Twin Cities area, according to a report released Tuesday by Gov. Mark Dayton’s office and the local host committee.
The final tally by Rockport Analytics came in $50 million over the consulting company’s pre-Super Bowl projections. It also said the 10 days leading up to the Feb. 4 game at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis brought in $32 million in new tax revenue for state and local government.
”We hosted well,” said Maureen Bausch, CEO of the host committee.
The report put gross local spending by visitors, companies hosting events, and the media and operations teams at more than $450. Subtracting $80 million for tourism displaced by the event resulted in net spending of $370 million that would not have happened but for the Super Bowl, it said. The figures don’t include game tickets. Adding in the economic ripple effect brought the total incremental contribution to the metro area’s gross domestic product to $400 million Jets Sam Darnold Jersey , it said.
That spending ”resounded through the local economy,” said Ken McGill, managing director of West Chester, Pennsylvania-based Rockport.
Sports economists tend to be skeptical of revenue claims from massive sporting events, saying that events may be fun for the community but any monetary windfall to a region is illusory.
”The Super Bowl is definitely positive, but nowhere near the $450 million positive in terms of dollars in local people’s pockets,” College of the Holy Cross professor Victor Matheson said. For examples, he said, hotel revenue goes mostly to out-of-state chains, and money from sales of jerseys mostly goes to the NFL and manufacturers.
Despite subzero cold and heavy snow, the event drew some 125 Cheap Troy Apke Jersey ,000 tourists, which Rockport defined as ticketed and non-ticketed visitors who came from at least 50 miles away or spent a night in hotel. The report said 83 percent of first-time visitors said they would return. The Meet Minnesota convention and visitors bureau said meeting and convention leads are up 30 percent since the game was announced. Leads were up 10 percent year-over-year in the first four months of 2018 alone.
The report found that the average Super Bowl visitor spent $608 per day during an average stay of 3.9 days, compared with a typical tourist who spends about $124 a day. The Super Bowl generated more than 266,000 hotel nights with an average daily room rate of $249, the report said. Thirteen percent of visitors used peer-to-peer rentals such as Airbnb.
More than 1 million visits were made by locals and travelers alike to Super Bowl Live, the free fan festival held over the 10 days leading up to the game.
U.S. Bank Stadium will be in the national spotlight again next April when it hosts the NCAA men’s basketball Final Four. Rockport predicts the tournament will bring $124 million in net spending to the region and $23 million in tax revenue.

When Pete Carroll decided to overhaul his coaching staff after last year’s flop Authentic Richard Rodgers Jersey , it was clear he wanted different voices in the ears of his key players.
Or in the case of the Seahawks defense, a familiar voice coming from a different perspective.
Of all the changes made by the Seahawks since the end of last season, the most significant may end up being the addition of new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, offensive line coach Mike Solari and defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. It was a shake-up that may be just what the team needed.
”Players are taking to the challenge of learning and adapting to stuff, coaches are adapting to players – there’s a lot going on,” Carroll said. ”But it’s been very energetic, very upbeat, not unlike what it should feel like in our program, but maybe even more so than ever http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-byron-maxwell-jersey , or at least, in the last few years.”
The most significant change is on offense, where for the first time in his career Russell Wilson is getting direction from someone other than former offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell or former quarterbacks coach Carl Smith. Schottenheimer is both of those in one, something Carroll wanted to streamline the process for Wilson and perhaps hold the quarterback accountable in a different way than in the past.
For Schottenheimer, it’s a chance to work with a quarterback he watched from the other sideline during his three years working with the Rams.
”I’ve admired Russell – his playmaking ability, but yet the ability to throw the football and create plays when things break down. That’s hard to teach,” Schottenheimer said. ”It’s hard to teach a guy to run around and make people miss and find an open guy in the end zone. That was something that was really exciting for me is to get here and to work with a guy like that, that has done so well thus far. Just try to coach him up on some new fundamentals and techniques and see what he likes.”
While Schottenheimer is completely new to Seattle, Norton and Solari have spent time here before. Solari hasn’t been around since 2009. But he brings a solid track record as an offensive line coach – a position where the Seahawks need help. While Tom Cable was lauded early in his Seattle tenure http://www.jetsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-terrelle-pryor-sr.-jersey , the offensive line became a flash point for frustration and often the reason the Seahawks offense struggled in recent years.
”He’s very big on attention to detail, very big on technique,” offensive tackle Duane Brown said. ”Me, going into my 11th year, I feel like there’s some things that I need to sharpen up to continue to play at a high level and he’s definitely hammering points down for me. I think he’s going to be very great for the younger guys.”
Norton’s return, taking the place of Kris Richard, was exceedingly popular among at least one position group in Seattle’s locker room. Before Norton left to become the defensive coordinator in Oakland, he was the Seahawks linebackers coach. So Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright and the rest of Seattle’s linebackers group was thrilled to get their former position coach back Weston Richburg Jersey Elite , but now with even more authority over the defense. Ultimately the defensive system is still based around Carroll’s philosophy, but Wagner is itching to see what Norton does.
”We went through a lot those first three years and obviously I paid close attention when he left and we stayed in touch,” Wagner said. ”When I heard he was coming back I had a lot of joy and a lot of excitement because I felt like we had a little bit of unfinished business. It’s good to have him back, it’s good to have that mind back because he’s helped me more than just a player (but) as a person and I’m excited to grow with him.”
NOTES: Carroll said Thursday after Seattle wrapped up its final OTA practice that he expects everyone in attendance at next week’s mandatory minicamp. That would include S Earl Thomas, DE Frank Clark and CB Byron Maxwell, who have been absent from the voluntary sessions. … DE Dion Jordan has not participated in OTAs after having a minor follow up procedure done on his knee, Carroll said. The team hopes he’s ready for the start of training camp in late July.

Carson Wentz is trusting the process.
The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback didn't participate in 11-on-11 drills for the third straight practice for precautionary reasons after taking part the first three days.
"Just have to listen to what the doctors and coaches are saying. Just trust that plan," Wentz said Wednesday.
Coach Doug Pederson emphasized that Wentz hasn't suffered any setbacks. He said he's encouraged by Wentz's recovery from surgery to repair a torn left ACL last December. Wentz again was on the field for the 7-on-7 portion of practice.
"I'm very encouraged with where he's at," Pederson said. "What I saw last week is enough to ease my mind. I don't need to see him in 11-on-11 drills right now. He's progressing extremely well. I don't want to subject him to any setback or anything like that. I want to keep him progressing and moving forward. Those couple of days that we had with him (last week) were very exciting Raiders Johnny Townsend Jersey , very encouraging for me."
Wentz said he feels great physically and understands that the medical staff wants to keep him in a controlled environment. He still hasn't been cleared for contact. His goal is to be ready for Week 1 when the defending Super Bowl champions host the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 6.
"I'm sticking to my goal. Again, I can't say with 100 percent certainty it's going to be," Wentz said. "Ever since the injury, we've been saying it's a fluid process. Some days you're feeling better than other days. Could there be some change in plan? For sure. But this is part of the plan right now, so we're sticking to it."
Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles gives the Eagles no reason to rush Wentz.
