Indianapolis and Green Bay didn't wait for this week's roster moves to start filling holes.
Instead Le'Raven Clark Jersey , they cut a deal Sunday.
The Colts traded inside linebacker Antonio Morrison to the Packers for cornerback Lenzy Pipkins, giving each veteran a chance to impress their new coaches in this week's preseason finales 鈥?and a better chance of making the 53-man active roster.
Green Bay already was thin at inside linebacker after incumbent starter Jake Ryan suffered a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training camp. The Packers suffered another blow when Ryan's replacement, rookie Oren Burks, hurt his shoulder during Friday's pregame warmups and missed the game against Oakland.
Burks was a third-round draft pick in the spring, but coach Mike McCarthy said Sunday the injury was less severe than initially feared and that the injury would not be long term.
Still, they made the move.
"Antonio is obviously an experienced linebacker, and if you look at the youth of the group, that's something we felt we needed to add," McCarthy said. "Lenzy's a good young corner, did some really good things for us at the end of the year. But we're very young at that position."
Getting Morrison could fill one of Green Bay's most glaring needs.
The 6-foot-1, 241-pound Morrison played in 31 games with the Colts, made 19 starts including 15 last season. He finished among the league's top 20 in tackles in 2017, leading the Colts with 109.
Morrison was originally the Colts' fourth-round draft pick in 2016.
But Morrison started sliding down the Colts' depth chart after new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus switched from a 3-4 defensive front to the more traditional 4-3, a scheme that requires only one starting inside linebacker. In contrast Braden Smith Jersey , Green Bay will continue to use a 3-4 scheme under new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.
Morrison's experience also could make him an immediate contributor with starter Blake Martinez, who had 144 tackles last season and finished with a share of the league lead. Martinez started next to undrafted rookie Greer Martini when Burks sat out Friday.
Burks said nobody has given him a timeline for his return and he's not sure if he'll be ready for Green Bay's season opener Sept. 9 against Chicago.
"Shoulder just popped out. It's unfortunate but it's part of the game," Burks said. "Knew something was wrong, obviously, but I've never had any shoulder issues before so I didn't really know what I was feeling or any kinds of things like that. Good evaluation, good feedback from the MRI and things like that."
Pipkins played in 12 games, mostly on special teams, after making the Packers as an undrafted rookie last season.
He also moved down the depth chart after Green Bay selected cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson with its top two picks in this year's draft and re-signed free agent Tramon Williams, who played for Pettine in Cleveland after leaving Green Bay in free agency following the 2014 season.
"Our two rookies played well in the game," McCarthy said. "But I think it's just a product of a number of things. It (linebacker) is a position that we wanted to add experience to, and definitely some young guys there that we feel good about."
With an already young secondary, the Colts figured they'd take a look at the 6-foot, 196-pound Pipkins in Thursday night's preseason finale at Cincinnati.
Second-year cornerbacks Quincy Wilson and Nate Hairston both missed the Colts' game with injuries.
Pierre Desir, a fifth-year player who made five of his 12 career starts last season in Indy http://www.washingtonredskinsteamonline.com/zach-brown-jersey , and Kenny Moore II, a second-year player who has impressed coaches, have been the starters this preseason.
But Pipkins could help the Colts in nickel or dime packages if Wilson or Hairston are out any significant amount of time.
"We feel like it's a good fit," coach Frank Reich said. "He's a guy that our guys had their eyes on. It's tough with Antonio because I loved Antonio, I loved the toughness he brought. But I think this was a move that was best for the team."

CLEVELAND (AP) — Baker Mayfield played on a big stage at Oklahoma, so he’s not scared of stepping onto football’s biggest one.
The Browns rookie quarterback — and perhaps their QB of the future — will make his NFL exhibition debut Thursday night as Cleveland visits the New York Giants in a game that will feature the top two overall picks in this year’s draft: Mayfield and Giants running back Saquon Barkley.
Almost from the time he first picked up a football, the Heisman Trophy winner has been looking forward to his first game action as a pro. But he won’t let that thrill overwhelm him.
“Played this game for a long time, I don’t get nervous,” said Mayfield, currently No. 2 on Cleveland’s depth chart behind Tyrod Taylor. “So I’m going to say I’m not going to have to worry about that part. Anytime I get the chance to play ball, yeah, I get excited, but however much I play I’ve got to take advantage of the opportunity, that’s for sure.”
Coach Hue Jackson want to play Mayfield two quarters T.Y. Hilton Jersey , sending him in after Taylor gets in some work leading Cleveland’s first-team offense for a series or two.
The Browns’ plan — at this point — is to have Mayfield spend the season watching and learning behind Taylor, who led Buffalo to the playoffs last season and has quickly established himself as a leader in Cleveland.
Mayfield understands he has to be patient, and while waiting for his turn he’s had an impressive training camp. He releases the ball quickly and accurately, and Mayfield seems to have a solid grasp of coordinator Todd Haley’s offense.
But although Jackson said Mayfield has exceeded expectations, he’s committed to opening the season with Taylor behind center.
“We are going to grow our quarterbacks,” Jackson said last week. “Tyrod Taylor is our quarterback. Baker Mayfield is competing and getting better each and every day, still learning the National Football League. Has done a really nice job of learning our system and improving every day.”
The 23-year-old Mayfield showed poise during an intrasquad scrimmage last week. He led Cleveland’s backups on an opening touchdown drive, but later struggled in the red zone against Cleveland’s starting defense and also threw his first interception of camp.
He knows the tempo and intensity will be even higher against the Giants.
“When you get the energy level up, you’ve got to be able to execute, so that’s why I’m excited about Thursday as well,” he said. “You get people hyped up, you actually get some contact in and you can focus in and do your job when there are distractions around, so I think we handled the first one pretty well, but it definitely can go a lot better.”
Although he became a major college star Morgan Moses Jersey , Mayfield had to fight every step of the way. He was a walk-on at Texas Tech and with the Sooners, and Mayfield feels those experiences prepared him to handle not starting now.
He’s a backup, and Mayfield is making the most of being one.
“Whenever I got to Texas Tech I wasn’t given an opportunity to get out there, as well, then when I got to OU, I was on scout team,” he said. “It’s how I’ve always handled it, whatever opportunity I get, to make sure I get better I need to take advantage of that. So right now that’s doing second-team reps, or that’s even translating now doing some card offense, scout-team stuff. Whatever I can do to learn and keep getting reps, that’s the best thing.”

ZURICH (Reuters) - FIFA has moved better a reform on the transfer system after the key committee backed proposals to restrict loans and limit agents’ fees, the international soccer body said on Tuesday.
The stakeholders committee, featuring representatives from clubs, leagues, players and national associations, also approved an agenda to mmoah a clearing house to process transfers, using a meeting in London.
However, it didn't mention a proposal within a white paper that is generated by its transfer system task force — which has been seen by FUT 19 Coins Reuters earlier this year — to make an algorithm to calculate transfer fees.
FIFA said hello was agreed that loans must be used for the “purpose of youth development rather than commercial exploitation” and there needs to be a limit about the number of loans each club could make in a very given season.

EAST RUTHERFORD O. J. Simpson Jersey , N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets‘ already intriguing quarterback competition just got a lot more interesting.
Thanks to a poised Sam Darnold. And a sharp and healthy Teddy Bridgewater.
Josh McCown is still No. 1 on the depth chart, but the other two quarterbacks made big-time statements in the Jets’ 17-0 preseason-opening victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night.
“We’ll see how the preseason goes,” coach Todd Bowles said after the game. “I’ll make my decision when it happens. I’m not going to jump to any conclusions after one game. I’m going to take my notes and watch practice and compare with the coaches and we’ll come up with a decision. It’s a tough decision.
“We have three good players and we’re happy to have them.”
Bowles has said that the competition could last through the fourth preseason game, and he didn’t back off that when asked if that were still the case.
“Probably,” the coach said in his typically understated fashion.
While Bowles isn’t about to start making any premature proclamations, there was plenty for the Jets and their fans to get excited about.
McCown played just one series and was replaced by Bridgewater, who led New York to scores on both of his possessions. Then, Darnold jogged onto the field at MetLife Stadium to an ovation befitting a guy considered by many to be the savior of the franchise.
The No. 3 overall pick in the draft showed poise, accuracy, playmaking ability on the run and veteran-like cool in his NFL debut.
“I thought I played pretty good,” Darnold said. “I think I just put the ball where it needed to be, tried to get it in the hands of our playmakers.”
The former USC star finished 13 of 18 for 96 yards Dion Dawkins Jersey , including a touchdown pass to Charles Johnson during which he rolled right and zipped the football into the end zone to his receiver while on the run. That came after Darnold brushed off a drop and an offensive pass interference penalty — both on Johnson — leading to the score.
“Poise. Again, the poise in the pocket,” Bowles said. “Obviously, the touchdown throw. The scramble was very good use of his feet and accuracy, but he does that in practice all the time, so I can’t say it impressed me because we see it every day. Just his handling of game situations. There are things he can get better at, but it’s a good start for him.”
Darnold was quick to point out a negative moment, namely when he was sacked by Jonathan Celestin in the fourth quarter.
“I feel like I could’ve gotten that ball out on the shallow (route) there, but you live and you learn I guess,” he said. “So, I’m just going to watch the tape and see really what exactly happened on some of the plays, but I thought I did pretty well. I took care of the football Marshall Faulk Jersey , which was my main priority.”
The Jets are giving Darnold every opportunity to win the starting job, and the rookie appeared well on his way to doing so while working with backups against the Falcons.
New York takes on Washington next Thursday, and it remains to be seen how Bowles will split the snaps among the quarterbacks. The next step for Darnold might be playing with the starters.
Bridgewater was also impressive in his Jets debut, showing flashes of the player who was a Pro Bowl selection with the Vikings before a severe knee injury sidelined him for most of the last two years.
He looked comfortable and even took a hard shot during a play, immediately bouncing up from the turf.
“It felt good getting hit again,” Bridgewater said with a smile. “You never want the quarterback getting hit, but for me, it was the final step of the process. Got hit, got right back up and it just served as a reminder that the game is still the same.”
Bridgewater capped his first series with a touchdown toss to Isaiah Crowell, and led the Jets to a field goal on his second drive.
He finished 7 of 8 for 85 yards, and looked every bit like a starting-caliber quarterback — for New York or perhaps another team as potential trade bait if Darnold continues to progress rapidly and leaves no doubt as to who should be under center when the Jets open the regular season at Detroit.
“If you’re a football fan and you enjoy the sport, it’s fun to be a part of Charles Haley Jersey ,” McCown said. “And to get a front-row seat and more importantly to just go out and want to see them accomplish the things that we talk about in our quarterback room on a daily basis is huge and they did that and so we couldn’t be happier. I’m really excited for them and now it’s back to work.”
A day after the San Francisco 49ers elected Richard Sherman as their player representative, the veteran cornerback believes a lockout is coming when the NFL collective bargaining agreement expires.
"It's going to happen, so it's not like guys are guessing," Sherman said before the 49ers' workout Thursday.
The current CBA between players and NFL owners doesn't expire until after the 2020 season, but there have been rumblings that players might dig in their heels in order to get certain economic changes, including more guaranteed money in contracts.
Owners locked out the players for four months during the 2011 offseason, but the sides eventually hammered out a 10-year deal before the regular season was jeopardized.
Sherman said he's expecting a lockout this time around "because there was a lockout before. We don't plan on changing anything about the deal we currently have right now ... I don't think it's going to be negotiated before the end of the CBA."
That issue is for down the road. For now, the three-time All-Pro cornerback eagerly awaits his 49ers debut Sunday at Minnesota. After being released by Seattle in March, Sherman, 30, signed a three-year deal with San Francisco.
He appears fully recovered from a ruptured right Achilles tendon that ended his 2017 season in November. But Sunday's game offers Sherman his first true test to prove he's still the same shutdown defender he was before the injury. And the opener comes against a Vikings team that expects big things offensively after signing quarterback Kirk Cousins in the offseason.
So far, Sherman has drawn rave reviews for the leadership role he's taken with a young 49ers defense.
"It's inspiring just to play across from a guy like that that's played at a high level http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/mike-glennon-jersey ," cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon said. "I've always looked up to him, always thought highly of him. To be able to pick his brain just inspires me to take my game to the next level."
Asked if this week of preparation feels different given his new surroundings, Sherman replied:
"I got my Kobe cleats."
Nike has a line of football cleats endorsed by former Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, a friend of Sherman's who offered the cornerback advice on how to rehab from an Achilles injury, since Bryant experienced the same setback.
Sherman said he'll feel butterflies when he takes the field for his 49ers debut, but he said it won't be so different from his previous seven years with the Seahawks.
"(There's) always that rookie inside me. I don't think it changes from your first year to your eighth year," he said. "I think you always go into it knowing you're gonna have a chance to do something special and you're excited about the possibilities."
NOTES: Weakside linebacker Malcolm Smith (hamstring) participated in Thursday's practice and is expected to be ready Sunday, defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said. ... Saleh also said that rookie Fred Warner will start at middle linebacker.

Portland’s Damian Lillard says he likes the first-round matchup against the Pelicans Sherrick McManis Jersey , but in almost the same breath he lists the reasons why New Orleans is dangerous.
After splitting their four regular-season meetings, the third-seeded Blazers and sixth-seeded Pelicans open the playoffs Saturday night at the Moda Center.
”They stole one from us here, and we felt like that was a game that we should have had. We had a bad third quarter,” Lillard said. ”But they have Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday, Rondo, E’Twaun Moore, they’ve got a lot of guys that make them a dangerous team.”
The Blazers won the season’s first meeting with New Orleans, 103-93, back in October. But two months later the Pelicans beat the Blazers 123-116 in Portland without Davis. DeMarcus Cousins had 38 points and New Orleans extended its lead to as many as 18 points in the third quarter.
The Pelicans lost Cousins for the season because of an Achilles injury in January, and many thought the team’s playoff hopes were over. Instead, New Orleans rallied, going 21-13 the rest of the way and ending the season on a five-game winning streak.
”We were just starting to find our groove before he went out and when he got hurt it kind of pushed us back Bryan Bulaga Jersey ,” Davis said. ”We were trying to figure out how we wanted to play, and then we figured it out and were able to push through it.”
Davis stepped up in Cousins’ absence, averaging 30.4 points and 11.8 rebounds.
”When Cousins went down, everybody kind of wrote them off and they’ve done a great job of really competing since then,” Blazers coach Terry Stotts said. ”Anthony Davis has been an outstanding player. It’s been a tough matchup for us, games are close.”
Lillard, who goes into the game averaging 26.9 points, had 41 points in the final meeting of the season with the Pelicans, a 107-103 Blazers win in New Orleans.
”Dame had a hell of a game, but it’s playoffs and you can put everything behind what happened before,” Stotts said. ”The playoffs is a different animal.”
Other things to watch as the Blazers and Pelicans begin their playoff series:
GUESSING THE BEARD ISN’T COMING BACK: The Pelicans acquired Nikola Mirotic in a trade after Cousins went out. He initially joined the squad as a sixth man and was inconsistent. But late this season, he shaved his beard, joined the starting lineup and he’s been thriving ever since Chester Rogers Jersey , scoring no fewer than 21 points in a game during the Pelicans’ season-ending five-game winning streak.
LUCKY THIRTEEN: The Blazers went on a 13-game winning streak, starting with a victory over Golden State just before the All-Star break that boosted their playoff position. And despite their late four-game losing streak, the Blazers still finished 49-33 and clinched the Northwest Division title. ”We would have liked to have a 50-win season but you can’t complain about a division championship or 49 wins,” Lillard said.
ROAD COURT ADVANTAGE: The Pelicans were just as good on the road (24-17) as they were at home (24-17). ”On the road we’ve been really, really good at just locking in and giving ourselves an opportunity to come up with wins … That’s what you have to do in order to be a playoff team,” coach Alvin Gentry said.
HIGH MILEAGE: CJ McCollum topped the NBA for the most miles on the court this season with 218. It was the third straight season he’s led the league in the stat. Jrue Holiday is No. 2 overall with 211.40 miles.
GOING FORWARD: Game 2 is set for Tuesday before swinging to New Orleans for games on Thursday and the following Saturday. The ”if necessary” games go like this: Tuesday, April 24, in Portland; Thursday, April 26, in New Orleans; and Saturday, April 28, back in Portland.

More NBA basketball: D.J. Hayden and Don Carey are remaining teammates, just in another city.
The former Detroit defensive backs agreed to free-agent contracts with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday Jacoby Brissett Jersey , according to a person familiar with negotiations.
Both players are expected to sign deals Thursday, said the person who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because NFL teams are prohibited from announcing signings until free agency officially begins Wednesday afternoon.
SiriusXM Sports reported that Hayden will sign a three-year deal worth $19 million, including $9.5 million guaranteed.
The 27-year-old Hayden replaces nickel cornerback Aaron Colvin, who reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with the Houston Texans on Tuesday.
Hayden has played in 61 games with Oakland (2013-16) and Detroit (2017), totaling 223 tackles, 35 pass breakups, three interceptions and 1 sacks.
Carey is expected to be a core special teams player for the Jaguars, who are looking to upgrade those units in 2018.
A sixth-round draft pick by Cleveland in 2009, Carey landed in Jacksonville when the Jaguars claimed him after being waived/injured. He started 10 games for Jacksonville in 2010, got cut the following year and ended up in Detroit. He has 117 tackles, nine pass breakups and three interceptions in 99 games.
Hayden and Carey will join one of the league’s best defenses, a unit that returns 10 starters from last season and expects to be even better while playing a second year together.
They are part of Jacksonville’s 2018 free-agent class that also includes All-Pro guard Andrew Norwell and speedy receiver Donte Moncrief, according to two other people familiar with negotiations. The Jaguars also are re-signing receiver Marqise Lee.
Norwell is expected to sign a five-year William Perry Jersey , $66.5 million contract that includes $30 million guaranteed, one of the people said. That would make him one of the highest-paid offensive linemen in the league.
Moncrief will sign a one-year deal worth $7 million, according to ESPN. Lee agreed to a four-year deal worth $38 million that includes $18 million guaranteed, another person said.
Lee and Moncrief will be counted on to try to fill the void left by losing former Pro Bowl receiver Allen Robinson, who is headed to Chicago.
Norwell will slide into Jacksonville’s offensive line at left guard, between left tackle Cam Robinson and center Brandon Linder.
Although Jacksonville led the NFL in rushing in 2017, the running game stalled late in the season and barely was a factor in the playoffs.
Norwell should help make Jacksonville’s line, especially the left side, one of the best in the AFC. And Moncrief’s big-play ability could prevent defenses from stacking the line of scrimmage against running back Leonard Fournette.

Alex Smith is frustrating Josh Norman.
Norman likes having Smith with the Washington Redskins Henry Anderson Jersey , but practice time against the veteran quarterback at training camp hasn’t been as beneficial as the big-money cornerback had hoped. That’s because Smith has been so on-point with his decision-making and throws that Norman isn’t getting a whole lot of work in team drills.
”You’re in great position, you get there top of the route, you’re ready for your play to be made and it doesn’t come,” Norman said. ”But the ones you are a little step behind on and you’re almost there to make it, he throws it. It’s those games, cat and mouse, man. It’s cat-and-mouse games that it just sucks when you’re the mouse.”
Norman feels like the mouse early in camp but hopes facing a QB like Smith each day benefits him in the long run. Entering the third season of a $75 million, five-year contract, Norman is balancing the lack of work he’s getting during 11-on-11 time with his usual half-hour plus of individual drills after practice as one of the last players on the field.
”That’s what you’ve got to do to be the best, to be great like him,” said undrafted rookie safety Quin Blanding, who worked out with Norman following practice Sunday. ”It just shows he wants extra work no matter all the work he’s done in practice. It’s always find ways to get better, and that’s what he’s doing.”
Norman is known for his post-practice regimen, whether it’s going for jump balls or catching in rapid succession out of a JUGS machine. But none of that compares to team snaps http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/zack-martin-jersey , where Smith is avoiding Norman the way he would in a real game.
”I’m just staying the course and trying to understand that your technique is not flawed, continue to do what you do even though your chances are not coming,” Norman said. ”But when they do come, try to be better than the quarterback in making a play. He’s so precise right now, so he’s not making mistakes, and that’s the biggest thing you’ve seen. Even in practice, he’s not making mistakes. It’s hard to try to key in on that.”
Coach Jay Gruden approves. His offense is built around quick decisions and finding the right receiver to throw to, and that’s not usually by challenging Norman.
”Josh is getting plenty of work,” Gruden said Tuesday. ”We’re not going to throw a flat route out to Josh Norman and let him pick it. That’s just common sense, so Josh is going to have to wait for somebody else to throw it to him.”
Norman is still isolating elements of his game to work on at age 30, going into his seventh NFL season. He had no interceptions last year and dropped more than a handful of prime opportunities, so at practice he’s working on the little things that turn a broken-up pass into a pick.
”Being in place is the first part, but finishing the ball should be something that already is established and ingrained in you,” Norman said. ”It’s just that six inches from making a play to not making a play.”
Trying to close the gap on those inches is what goes into Norman’s extra work after practice. And in the process http://www.washingtonredskinsteamonline.com/ryan-anderson-jersey , he’s helping young defensive backs like Blanding and Kenny Ladler develop the same kind of habits.
”You fix the mistakes and then when it comes again, you don’t make the same mistake,” Blanding said. ”You’ve got to be ready to work no matter if it feels like a great day of practice or if it was a bad day of practice. You’ve got to put that aside and you’ve just got to work. You’ve got to keep on working, and that’s what he does.”
NOTES: RB Chris Thompson, who’s recovering from surgery to repair a broken right fibula, took his first snaps in team drills Tuesday. … LB Mason Foster was limited at practice by a strained stomach muscle.

Vance McDonald arrived in Pittsburgh on the eve of the 2017 regular season, far too late to have any say in his locker assignment.
And the tight end hardly complained about being placed at the end of a long row of offensive linemen.
Still, he made a request going into 2018. He wanted to move. More specifically, he wanted to move to a locker right next to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
"I like Ben, Ben likes me," McDonald said Thursday. "It's kind of hard to communicate. I'm not going to exactly go out of my way to talk to someone. So a lot of back and forth chit-chat happens casually in the locker room and vicinity and I wanted to be next to him."
Unfortunately for the Steelers, the locker room is the only place where McDonald and Roethlisberger have been side by side. McDonald missed almost all of training camp while dealing with an undisclosed foot injury.
He finally returned to practice this week only to spend Wednesday and Thursday catching passes from backup quarterback Josh Dobbs while Roethlisberger gives his aching right elbow a rest.
"I keep teasing him, just about the time we get Vance back practicing, all the guys back practicing http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/marcus-cooper-jersey , Ben's not practicing," offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner said. "There's not been one day since fall camp ... that we have practiced as a full unit. That isn't an excuse. It's never going to be an excuse."
Instead, it's been a frustrating reality, particularly for McDonald. The Steelers acquired him from San Francisco at the end of training camp in 2017 enamored with both his size (6-foot-4, 267 pounds) and his speed.
It didn't take McDonald long to showcase the latter. Pittsburgh visited Chicago in Week 3 last fall when McDonald chased down Bears defensive back Marcus Cooper on the final play of the first half after Cooper blocked a Chris Boswell field goal.
McDonald knocked the ball loose just before Cooper crossed the goal line for a touchdown. The Steelers ended up losing in overtime, but McDonald's hustle play made an immediate impression.
The trouble is, McDonald struggled to build on it. The list of issues that limited him to six games and 14 receptions in the regular season included a bruised knee, a sprained ankle and a shoulder problem. Still, he finished with a flourish, posting career highs in catches (10) and yards receiving (112) during a playoff loss to Jacksonville.
The Steelers hope it is a sign of things to come at a position that's been steady but not spectacular since Heath Miller's retirement in February 2016.
Ladarius Green lasted just one season before being released in the spring of 2017 after dealing with ankle surgery and the lingering effects of a concussion. Jesse James continues to evolve from a fifth-round pick into a regular contributor, but isn't considered a downfield threat.
That's not a problem for McDonald, who averages a healthy 13.5 yards per reception.
"He's got explosion at the position, he's got playmaker ability, no doubt Darrell Green Jersey ," Fichtner said.
Getting that explosiveness onto the field consistently has proven tough. He left practice on July 29 with a foot injury, forcing him to stand on the sideline and watch while trying to absorb the transition from former offensive coordinator Todd Haley to Fichtner. McDonald admits he could feel his muscles twitching while watching the tight ends go on without him.
"You're going through those muscle patterns just to get the reps because you can't do it physically," he said. "It's huge, it's key."
How much McDonald plays against the Chiefs is uncertain. He hasn't taken a hit from an opposing player in nine months and he's cautious about doing too much too soon. He's also aware, however, that the Steelers need another threat to take some of the pressure off wide receivers Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster, particularly with running back Le'Veon Bell 鈥?the NFL's 10th-leading receiver in 2017 鈥?still away from the team waiting to sign his one-year franchise tender.
"We all know AB is a great player, established and JuJu is a rising up and comer he's going to continue to develop," McDonald said. "So it's whatever you can do to help the offense roll."
NOTES: In addition to Roethlisberger, RG David DeCastro (fractured right hand) and CB Joe Haden (hamstring) also did not practice. ... DT Tyson Alualu (shoulder) was limited. ... DE Cam Heyward (knee), who missed practice on Wednesday, was a full participant.

Dez Bryant remains unsigned more than two weeks after the Cowboys released him. The receiver turned down an offer from the Ravens Joe Looney Jersey , and no other team publicly has expressed interest in him.
Cowboys scouting chief Will McClay essentially admitted Bryant’s play didn’t match the $12.5 million base and $16.5 million salary cap number Bryant’s contract called for in 2018. Bryant has not had a 1,000-yard season since 2014, and he has gone 23 games without a 100-yard game.
Speaking for the first time since Bryant’s departure, McClay’s comments on ESPN 103.3 matched a report from early last month that the Cowboys believe Bryant no longer is the same player he was when they signed him to a five-year, $70 million contract in the 2015 offseason.
鈥淚t was a collective deal,鈥?McClay said of Bryant’s release, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. 鈥淭he [inability] to win one-on-one Terrance Williams Jersey , to win downfield. There was inconsistency as well as some huge things in his play. So what鈥檚 best moving forward for Dez Bryant the Cowboys, we just made that decision. It鈥檚 a production-based business.鈥?/p>
18. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (9-7)
LAST SEASON: Pete Carroll was in unfamiliar situation of being stuck at home for playoffs. Seattle missed postseason for just second time during Carroll's tenure as rash of key injuries and lack of depth caught up with Seahawks, leading to major changes. Gone are Michael Bennett, Richard Sherman, and potentially Kam Chancellor and Cliff Avril, plus coaches Darrell Bevell, Tom Cable and Kris Richard. Seattle seems committed to re-establishing run game that was nonexistent last season under new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Seahawks ranked 23rd in league running ball http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/jaire-alexander-jersey , putting too much offensive emphasis on QB Russell Wilson. Defensively, LB Bobby Wagner remained one of elite linebackers in NFL, but injuries exposed Seattle's defense as no longer elite.
THEY NEED: DE, S, DT, CB, RB Brett Favre Jersey , WR, QB.
THEY DON'T NEED: LB, K.
POSSIBLE FIRST PICK: DB Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama; DE Harold Landry, Boston College; DE Marcus Davenport, UTSA; CB Josh Jackson, Iowa; S Derwin James Troy Apke Jersey , Florida State.
OUTLOOK: All offseason general manager John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll have called Seattle's overhaul retooling and not full rebuild. So Seahawks must hit in this draft. Belief is with Wilson and Wagner still in prime, Seattle still has chance to contend soon. But there can't be drafts with more misses than hits. Seattle currently doesn't have second-day pick, very unlike Seahawks, raising likelihood of trading out of No. 18 spot. Expect Seahawks to be very aggressive in remedies for lack of second-day picks.

Cardinals running back David Johnson didn’t take part in the team’s mandatory minicamp in June amid a push for a long-term extension Preston Smith Jersey , but he won’t be extending his absence into training camp.
Johnson posted a video of himself in front of his locker wearing a helmet on Monday, which is the reporting date for Cardinals rookies, quarterbacks and players coming off of injury. The Cardinals confirmed that Johnson, who missed almost all of last season with a wrist injury Antwaun Woods Jersey , is in the building.
Johnson captioned his video with “In Gods hands now … primed and ready to prove it!” That could be a reference to his health or to his contract, which Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim said in June was something the team looks forward to addressing. There was word that Johnson would get a new deal before the start of the season, but Keim is currently suspended as a result of his DUI arrest and that could change the timeframe to get a deal done.
Johnson is set to make $1.88 million in the fourth and final year of his rookie deal.
Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is sometimes viewed as a meathead, but he’s smart when it comes to money.
Gronkowski http://www.indianapoliscoltsteamonline.com/al-woods-jersey , who has made about $45 million in his NFL career, told Maverick Carter that his net worth is more than that because he lives off his endorsement money and he’s made more in investments than he’s spent.
“If you see my NFL money, how much I’ve made — I got way more than that, baby O. J. Simpson Jersey ,” Gronkowski said.
Gronkowski said that although he and his brothers made it to the NFL, their parents never allowed them to just be dumb jocks.
“They hounded us on school,” Gronkowski said.
Gronkowski said it’s now well known around the NFL that he’s smart with money, to the point that he gets questions from younger players who want to know how to manage their money.

The Steelers survived one week without Le'Veon Bell.
Maybe they can do it again.
Making his first NFL start http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/allen-hurns-jersey , James Conner helped Pittsburgh forget that Bell 鈥?the team's disgruntled star running back 鈥?isn't around and may not be back anytime soon.
Conner scored two touchdowns, rushed for 135 yards and added 57 more on five catches as the Steelers escaped Sunday with a 21-21 tie against the Cleveland Browns, who ended their 17-game losing streak without winning.
Conner was more than an adequate fill-in for Bell, who remains separated from the Steelers in an ugly contract dispute.
While his teammates slopped around in the rain at FirstEnergy Stadium, Bell continued his holdout in South Florida as his replacement gave the Steelers hope they'll be able to withstand not having one of their biggest stars.
Conner could be their newest one.
The anti-Bell.
"I'm so tired of Le'Veon," Steelers right guard David DeCastro told reporters. "I'm so tired of it. Let's just worry about the guys that are here. I know you guys have stories to write and what not. I love Le'Veon, but we have to worry about the guys that are here. That's the only people that matter."
Conner scored on a 4-yard run in the second quarter and added a 22-yarder in the fourth as the Steelers opened a 21-7 lead that appeared safe.
However, as Pittsburgh appeared on the verge of putting the Browns away, Conner had his lone blemish on an otherwise stellar day.
Running right Rigoberto Sanchez Jersey , Conner got stripped by Browns end Myles Garrett and his fumble led to the Browns quickly scoring two touchdowns in the final 7:32 to force overtime.
Cleveland had a chance to win it, but linebacker T.J. Watt added a blocked field goal to his four-sack game by getting a hand on Zane Gonzalez's 43-yard field-goal attempt with 9 seconds left.
Bell's messy situation cast a shadow over the Steelers all week, bringing a distraction to a team that usually avoids drama. The stand-off could last for a while, and if it does, Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin, his staff and the Steelers have to feel better about what Conner can provide.
"He did some really great things," said superstar receiver Antonio Brown. "He ran well and brought great energy all day. I was excited to see him make some plays, not only in the run game, but in the pass game as well."
On a day when quarterback Ben Roethlisberger struggled throwing three interceptions and fumbling twice http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/kendall-wright-jersey , Conner was solid and steady.
"Pressure is always there," said Conner, who survived a cancer scare while he was at Pitt. "You're either feeling pressure or applying pressure. I was trying to apply the pressure today. There were no nerves or nothing. Just playing football."
It looked that way. Conner patiently looked for running lanes, taking what Cleveland's defense gave him and never trying to do too much.
The 23-year-old finished with 192 total yards, matching Bell's best game from last season.
"I thought he played well," said Roethlisberger, who struggled from the outset. "Ran hard, caught the ball well. Made plays for us. I'm proud of the way he played for this team."
Conner took it all in stride. Following the game, he casually accepted congratulations while dressing and came across as composed off the field as he was on it.
"It is what I expect http://www.indianapoliscoltsteamonline.com/joe-haeg-jersey ," he said of his performance. "It's the mentality of our offense. We feel like we're going to run the ball when we want to run the ball so I know the mentality of those guys up front. I knew the lanes were going to be there. I knew today was going to be a good day on the ground, just not enough to win.
"I have confidence in myself and the guys in front of me blocking, so it's what we expect to do."
Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving was suspended for four games Friday for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, the second straight year the pass rusher is facing a ban to start the season.
The punishment announced by the league will not keep Irving from participating in training camp starting next month in California. The 24-year-old Irving's four-game suspension to start last season was for violating league policy on performance enhancers.
Irving was away from the Cowboys most of the offseason tending to personal issues before showing up for the mandatory three-day minicamp that ended Thursday. He declined to go into details but did mention that he was solely responsible for the care of his 5-year-old daughter.
His former girlfriend, the daughter's mother, accused Irving of domestic abuse before recanting in April. Police in the Dallas suburb of Frisco didn't file charges, but the NFL is investigating.
"I don't have time to be messing around and getting in trouble like I have been," Irving said the day before the suspension was announced. "I have to make a lot of changes. My whole life basically changed this offseason, quickly all at once in a lot of different aspects. I just got to change. And I have been."
After last season's suspension Sam Huff Jersey , Irving had seven sacks in eight games before sustaining a concussion that kept him out the remaining four games. He has 11陆 sacks in 35 games over three seasons for Dallas. The first game he is eligible is Oct. 7 at Houston.
The latest suspension comes as defensive end Randy Gregory awaits word on his bid for reinstatement. Gregory was suspended all of last season over multiple violations of the substance-abuse policy. He met with Commissioner Roger Goodell in New York this week.
Between Irving, Gregory, DeMarcus Lawrence and former Dallas defensive end Greg Hardy, the Cowboys are set to start the season with at least one suspended defensive lineman for the fourth straight season.
Irving signed a second-round tender worth $2.9 million as a restricted free agent and is set to be an unrestricted free agent after the season. The Cowboys signed him off Kansas City's practice squad in 2015.

The Sixers said Greer died Saturday night in Arizona after a brief illness. He was 81.

He played at Marshall and was the 13th overall pick by the Nationals in the 1958 draft.
The Sixers will honor Greer before their playoff game against the Miami Heat on Monday night.
The Sixers said Greer was survived by his wife Mayme, a son and two daughters.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Aaron Rodgers expressed disappointment with the effort from some of the Green Bay Packers‘ younger players after a frustrating period at practice.
It appears that some of the rookie wideouts are the focus of his displeasure.
Rodgers was running the scout team during one practice session on Tuesday http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/leighton-vander-esch-jersey , a sign that he likely won’t be playing in the Packers’ preseason opener on Thursday against Tennessee.
Younger players who normally may not get many reps with Rodgers got a chance to work more with the two-time NFL MVP.
There is some work to catch up to Rodgers’ high standards.
“It was one of the worst cards sessions we’ve had. I don’t know how you can make it any simpler,” Rodgers said Tuesday after practice. He was referring to how coaches will hold up an opponent’s play during the period.
“You literally have what the play would be in our terminology on the card, and the effort level was very low. Especially with what I’m accustomed to. I’ve been running that period for a number of years,” Rodgers said. “So it’s not a good start for us on the card period for the young guys.”
Rodgers is usually more diplomatic in front of reporters. He didn’t call out any players by name, but he did make sure to single out those he feels are role models, such as veterans Davante Adams, Randall Cobb and Jimmy Graham.
Rodgers liked how Geronimo Allison and DeAngelo Yancey DeShone Kizer Jersey , younger receivers with previous experience with Rodgers, have progressed. He has also gone out of his way to praise the work of Jake Kumerow, a second-year undrafted free agent.
Conversely, the three rookie receivers that the Packers took in this year’s draft — J’Mon Moore, Marquez Valdez-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown — may be part of that inconsistent group.
There’s a purpose behind Rodgers voicing his frustration. It doesn’t have all to do with sending a message to general manager Brian Gutekunst either as the Packers weigh roster decisions.
“No, that’s as much for you guys (the media) as it is for that guy, to let him know that I’m watching. I’m always watching — whether I’m in the play or not in the play Skai Moore Jersey , when we’re going back through the film,” Rodgers said.
The quarterback said fatigue may be partly to blame for the subpar play. It is relatively early in camp, when players are still building stamina and getting reacclimated to the routine.
The team is coming off its high-profile Family Night practice on Saturday. They had a day off Sunday before two more days of practice.
“Well, I’m getting older and grumpier. I’ve been at this for a long time,” said Rodgers, who turns 35 in December. “I’m tired too, we’re all a little tired. When you get a little tired Dick Butkus Jersey , the fuse gets a little shorter.”
Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin said the hope is that the young receivers learn from their mistakes and correct them as the preseason progresses.
“Certainly Aaron, his comments, his example, his leadership has a profound effect on the ballclub, the offense in particular and the whole team in general,” Philbin said. “His words are meaningful.”

Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly has been released from a New York City hospital a day after having surgery to prepare for permanent dentures to be inserted into his reconstructed upper jaw.
Mount Sinai West head and neck surgeon Mark Urken said the procedure went well Youth Fabian Moreau Jersey , in a statement released by the hospital on Friday.
Kelly's wife, Jill, says her husband is experiencing some swelling and adds: "Everything is moving forward as planned."
The procedure involved doctors adding tissue into the upper portion of his mouth. Kelly is scheduled to have permanent dentures inserted during a follow-up procedure in September.
Kelly has been unable to eat solid foods since March, when he had surgery to have cancer removed from his jaw after tests revealed a recurrence. The 58-year-old Kelly was initially diagnosed five years ago with oral cancer, and had been cancer free since September 2014.

He’s also 28 http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/montravius-adams-jersey , and in the NFL that puts him near old-head status, so he understands the business side of the sport.
The Jaguars defensive tackle said he and teammate Calais Campbell know that they have to continue to perform at a high level to continue to justify massive salaries, because that’s just how professional football works.
鈥矷t鈥檚 one of those things that as players if you think the front office isn鈥檛 trying to get rid of you, then you鈥檙e crazy,鈥?Jackson said, via John Reid of the Florida Times-Union. 鈥矷t鈥檚 their job to get players in here that are cheaper Star Lotulelei Jersey , younger and trying to be better.
鈥矷鈥檓 getting older, Calais [Campbell] is getting a little older. We have a lot of money on this D-line.鈥?/p>
Jackson was the beneficiary of the last pre-Tom Coughlin splurge by the Jaguars in 2016, getting a six-year, $85.5 million deal to leave the Super Bowl champion Broncos. Campbell was last year’s jackpot winner, getting a four-year, $60 million deal to come over from Arizona.
That stability up front was a big part of the reason the Jaguars have made big strides lately Jeff Heath Jersey , but things are always changing. For all the money they’ve spent up front, there are contract talks on the horizon for defensive end Yannick Ngakoue (and possibly Dante Fowler, whose 2019 option wasn’t picked up), and money eventually has to come from somewhere.
Which is why Jackson’s ready to work, to make sure it doesn’t come out of his pocket.
Seeing the team use a first-round pick on defensive tackle Taven Bryan would have also brought that into focus, as the league’s a constant churn of personnel as teams look for younger (i.e. less expensive) alternatives.

The New York Giants have added the title of vice president of football operations to the duties of assistant general manager Kevin Abrams.
General manager Dave Gettleman James Daniels Jersey , who is undergoing treatment for lymphoma, made the announcement Wednesday. Abrams has been with the Giants since 1999.

Chris Pettit has been appointed director of college scouting after spending the previous 13 years as an area scout. He joined the Giants’ scouting staff in 2005.
Patrick Hanscomb will be an area scout whose concentration will be the Mid-Atlantic states. Hanscomb spent the previous 10 seasons in the team’s pro personnel department.
Marcus Cooper has been hired as an area scout who will focus in the Southeast. Cooper spent the previous seven seasons with the Buffalo Bills.

The days of lengthy training camp holdouts for draft picks has long since passed (unless you’re Joey Bosa) given the current rookie contract slotting system in place with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Just three weeks since the NFL Draft came to an end Gale Sayers Jersey , the vast majority of draft picks have already signed their rookie contract.
As of Thursday night, 180 of the 256 players drafted had signed their rookie contracts, according to the league transaction reports.
There are a few notable quirks to the players that remain unsigned.
There are currently more third-round picks without contracts (24) than first-round picks (22).
The Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins account for 19 of the remaining unsigned players as neither team has inked a single draft pick to a rookie contract at this point.
Three teams – the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles – have signed their entire draft classes. Another 11 teams (Atlanta Phillip Gaines Jersey , Carolina, Chicago, Dallas, Houston Eddie Jackson Jersey , LA Chargers, Minnesota, New Orleans, Seattle Earnest Byner Jersey , Tennessee and Washington) have just one pick yet to be signed.
Indianapolis Colts guard Quenton Nelson (6th overall) and Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen (10th overall) are the highest picks to have signed their rookie contracts.

A five-minute implosion made the Capitals look like the same old team in the playoffs.
They blew a two-goal lead for the fourth time in seven games to ruin an otherwise solid performance in a Game 1 loss to the back-to-back Stanley Cup-champion Penguins. That Pittsburgh stormed back to win 3-2 seemed to suggest this would be yet another chapter in the long Tarell Basham Jersey , miserable history for the Capitals against their nemesis; the Penguins have won nine of 10 postseason meetings between the two teams.
But with fresh memories of digging out of a 2-0 series hole against Columbus in the first round, Washington doesn’t sound like a team thinking, ”Here we go again.” Players were quick to say they played a well and almost glossed over that ugly span of 4:49.
”We played a pretty good game,” defenseman Matt Niskanen said. ”They scored on (Sidney) Crosby’s three shifts in a row in the third period to win the game. Otherwise we played pretty good, so I don’t think you need to overanalyze that.”
Overanalyzing is exactly what will happen given the Capitals’ recent and franchise-long playoff history. But maybe the Capitals are better off focusing on the positives, and coach Barry Trotz expects things to click back into place for Game 2 on Sunday.
”It was a little bit of a kick in the stomach,” Trotz said Friday. ”We had a couple kicks in the stomach in the first round with Columbus and you saw the response that we had. I know our group, I know the strength of our group, I know the resiliency. This group will battle back.”
It’s not so easy to guarantee the Capitals will go shift-for-shift with the Penguins like they did most of Game 1, especially with the potential return of Pittsburgh star Evgeni Malkin. Washington did get as many quality scoring chances, if not more, than Pittsburgh Robert Newhouse Jersey , but those third-period goals by the top line of Patric Hornqvist , Crosby and Jake Guentzel tipped the balance.
Ideally, Trotz wants the Capitals to play with the lead the same way they do to get it: Move the puck quickly, make good decisions, defend hard and maintain solid positioning. Those things didn’t happen on the three shifts against Crosby and Co., including mistakes like Dmitry Orlov not tying up Hornqvist’s stick, Alex Ovechkin tipping the puck right to Crosby, and Braden Holtby giving the puck away behind his own net.
”One mistake, one bad bounce and they’re back in the game,” Ovechkin said. ”It hit my stick and goes right to Crosby’s stick. Move forward.”
Moving forward for the Capitals means cleaning up the little plays that can make a big difference this time of year. Trotz acknowledged the Penguins’ comeback ”happened very quickly,” and it was enough to overshadow two competitive periods where his team arguably out-chanced and out-played its opponent.
”That’s the tough part of this game is that those inches and those swings of momentum are so huge and you try to get them back,” Trotz said. ”You have some control of it Troy Apke Jersey , and you just want to make sure that you execute at the highest level.”

A Turkish court has accepted an indictment charging the father of NBA player Enes Kanter with ”membership in a terror group,” the country’s official news agency reported.
The indictment followed an investigation of Mehmet Kanter, and prosecutors planned to seek his conviction and a prison term of five to 10 years at trial, Anadolu Agency said.
It’s unclear when the trial in western Tekirdag province would begin.
Enes Kanter, who plays for the New York Knicks, is a follower of a U.S.-based Turkish cleric who the government accuses of masterminding a failed military coup in 2016. Cleric Fethullah Gulen has denied the allegation, but tens of thousands of people suspected of ties to his network have been arrested or fired.
The elder Kanter, a professor, was purged from public service after the coup attempt and detained for five days last summer.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Getting a jump on the trade deadline to add talent to the back of their bullpen, the Washington Nationals picked up right-hander Kelvin Herrera from the Kansas City Royals for three minor leaguers.
The Nationals sent infielder Kelvin Gutierrez, outfielder Blake Perkins and 17-year-old pitcher Yohanse Morel to Kansas City in the deal announced during Washington’s doubleheader against the New York Yankees.
Herrera has 14 saves and a 1.05 ERA this season. He’s allowed three earned runs in 25 2/3 innings while striking out 22 batters and walking two.
The 28-year-old is a two-time AL All-Star who helped Kansas City win the 2015 World Series – and is among the last players left from that title team. He is 23-27 with 57 saves and a 2.75 ERA across 442 games in relief over eight seasons in the majors.

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) – Mohamed Salah showed signs of discomfort with his injured left shoulder while taking part in Egypt’s final training session before the team’s World Cup match against Russia on Tuesday.
Salah didn’t appear to be moving his shoulder fully during upper-body exercises on Monday. Moments earlier Nate Hairston Jersey , Salah took part in light jogging around the St. Petersburg Stadium field and ran at the back of the group, with one coach gently nudging his left shoulder as the striker dribbled with a ball.
Salah, the Premier League’s player of the season, is recovering from injuring his shoulder while playing for Liverpool in last month’s Champions League final. He was an unused substitute in Egypt’s first group game at the World Cup – a 1-0 loss against Uruguay on Friday.
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) – FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Mexico after its fans used an anti-gay slur during the team’s 1-0 win over Germany.
Some Mexican supporters chanted the slur when Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer prepared to take a goal kick in the 24th minute of Sunday’s game at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
Fans in Mexico use the chant to insult opposing goalkeepers as they take a goal kick. Widely considered a slur, some argue there is no discriminatory intent.
FIFA did not elaborate on the nature of the disciplinary proceedings and didn’t say when a hearing would take place.

LONDON (AP) – Caster Semenya, the world and Olympic 800 meters champion, will go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to fight ”unfair” regulations that hinder certain female athletes.
The IAAF brought in controversial new rules in April that mean some women with high natural testosterone levels could be excluded from middle-distance races.
Semenya, a two-time Olympic and three-time world champion, is the highest-profile athlete expected to be impacted by the rules that divide medical opinion.

After the Winnipeg Jets lost Game 3 of the Western Conference final http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/jimmy-graham-jersey , goaltender Connor Hellebuyck didn’t seem fazed and spoke like a confident veteran rather than a third-year player whose team appears to be unraveling.
The Vezina Trophy-finalist went as far to say he liked his game better than the guy about 200 feet across the rink – 14-year veteran Marc-Andre Fleury, who stopped 33 of 35 shots and improved to 10-3 in the postseason.
”I like my game, I like it a lot more,” Hellebuyck said after making 26 saves in Wednesday’s loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. ”I like my details and will continue chugging away and getting better every single day.” If Game 3 is any indication of the type of game Vegas will bring into Friday night’s Game 4, Hellebuyck needs to get better urgently.
”I think we’ve been capitalizing on some chances we’ve been getting,” Vegas forward Cody Eakin said after Thursday’s practice. ”Getting to the dirty area, smackin’ `em into the blue paint. He’s a heck of a goalie and he’s played very well all season and all playoffs for them. It’s just one of things where you have a game plan, you stick to it. Whether it’s the bounces or capitalizing on a rush or whatever it may be Star Lotulelei Jersey , we’re just trying to finish every chance we get.”
Like 35 seconds into Game 3, when a premature poke-check by Hellebuyck led to a goal by Jonathan Marchessault. Hellebuyck’s ill-advised mistake allowed Marchessault to use a forehand-backhand deke and give Vegas the momentum early with a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, Hellebuyck went behind the net and lifted the puck to clear it but Erik Haula was there to knock it down and feed James Neal, who found the open net to give Vegas a 2-1 lead just 12 seconds after Mark Scheifele tied the score.
Winnipeg coach Paul Maurice refuses to blame his goalie, though, and seemed fine Thursday, with the rather braggadocious manner Hellebuyck speaks with, despite allowing three or more goals for the second consecutive game and fifth time in his last nine games.
”It’ll be across the crease Geron Christian Jersey , no chance in hell he’s getting that puck, and he believes he can stop that puck,” Maurice said. ”I don’t plan to stomp that mentality. He believes he can stop everyone, and then he moves on pretty darned well. He doesn’t carry it too heavy with him. He’s got confidence in the right way.”
So does Fleury, who leads the NHL with a career-best 1.70 goals-against average during the playoffs. And if the Jets can’t get more production outside of Scheifele, they’ll find themselves on the brink of elimination after Friday’s game.
Scheifele, who now owns the NHL record for most goals scored on the road in a single playoff with 11, has 14 goals and six assists in 15 games. But for a dangerous team that gotten this far because of its depth Mike White Jersey , guys like Vegas defensemen Nate Schmidt, Brayden McNabb and Shea Theodore have shown they can keep the Jets in their own zone or disrupt things in the neutral zone.
”A few miscues and they made us pay for it – that can’t happen,” said Scheifele, who has three of the Jets’ seven goals in this series. ”They’re going to have their games, we’re going to have our games. We can’t sulk on this too long. We gotta pick ourselves up and be ready for a big game on Friday.”
The Jets showed some life in the third period on Wednesday, and certainly outplayed what appeared to be a weary Vegas team over the final 20 minutes, but Fleury was outstanding in coming up with tremendous highlight saves to preserve the win.
”I think we’re starting to get a better understanding of how we have to attack and how we have to approach the net,” Maurice said. ”At 2-1 Mason Foster Jersey , we’re all aware that we’re down 2-1, but it’s still fairly early in the series. Both teams are going to come out guns-a-blazing and try to give the other team nothing.”
History is against the Jets, who are trailing in a series for the first time this postseason. Teams with a 2-1 lead in the conference final (or NHL semifinals) have won the series 35 of 43 times (81.4 percent) since 1975.
And unless Hellebuyck’s confidence translates into keeping the puck out of his net, and Scheifele gets some help at the other end, history is bound to repeat itself.

Payton says players took conditioning tests after reporting for camp on Wednesday.
Loomis says defensive end Alex Okafor has rehabilitated well from his Achilles injury last season and is expected to compete for his old starting job. Womens Minkah Fitzpatrick Jersey
