Wade LeBlanc got the Mariners off to a strong start to the second half of their season.
The left-hander and two relievers combined on a five-hitter Dan Hamhuis Jersey Kids , and Seattle beat the Chicago White Sox 3-1 on Friday night.
LeBlanc (6-1) gave the Mariners 7 1/3 strong innings in the team’s first game after the All-Star break. LeBlanc surrendered two hits in the first, including Daniel Palka’s RBI double to center field, but gave up only two hits and a walk in his next 6 1/3 innings. He finished with a career high-tying 10 strikeouts.
”It’s Wade’s world,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. ”What can you say? Ten strikeouts, just really good stuff on the edges, had them off balance all night. A great way for us to come back after the All-Star break.”
LeBlanc, who last struck out 10 batters in a game while with the San Diego Padres in 2011 Drew Doughty Jersey , improved to 6-0 with a 2.19 ERA in nine home starts this season. He said he wasn’t concerned with the amount of batters he fanned but focused more on a different figure.
”I think the biggest number is (getting) 22 outs,” LeBlanc said. ”It’s huge. It’s good to be able to do that coming out of the break to kind of set the tone and get some momentum going heading into tomorrow.”
Seattle answered Chicago’s early run in the bottom of the first. Dee Gordon, who went 4 for 4, singled to lead off the game against White Sox right-hander James Shields (4-11) and scored on Nelson Cruz’s sacrifice fly.
The Mariners took the lead in the fourth. Kyle Seager hit a one-out, ground-rule double and advanced to third on Denard Span’s single. Ryon Healy followed with a hard grounder that bounced off third baseman Yolmer Sanchez’s glove, allowing Seager to score on the fielder’s choice.
Reliever Alex Colome finished off a scoreless eighth, and Cruz singled in a run in the bottom of that inning to give Seattle a two-run lead. Mariners closer Edwin Diaz Womens Alexander Steen Jersey , pitching for the first time since blowing a save but getting the win for the American League in the All-Star Game, pitched a scoreless ninth for his league-leading 37th save.
But the story of the game was LeBlanc, a one-time journeyman who continues to cement his spot in the rotation of a Mariners team that improved to 59-39.
”He was working all quadrants,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. ”He was speeding you up, slowing you down. He was executing very, very well . very effective, very confident Jeff Skinner Jersey , knows what to do.”
ROSTER SHUFFLE
Seattle called up first baseman Daniel Vogelbach and outfielder John Andreoli from Triple-A Tacoma and outrighted pitcher Mike Morin. The name missing from Seattle’s roster moves was catcher Mike Zunino, who was thought to be ready to come off the disabled list following the All-Star break after missing time with a bone bruise in his left ankle. Servais said Zunino is expected to play at least a couple of games this weekend at Tacoma before he’s likely to be recalled.
The addition of two position players is likely to be a short-term move with Seattle bringing Felix Hernandez off the DL to start Saturday.
TRAINER’S ROOM:
White Sox: Outfielder Nicky Delmonico was reinstated from his injury rehab assignment on Friday. Delmonico was out since May 19 with a fractured finger on his right hand. Delmonico appeared in 10 games on rehab with Triple-A Charlotte.
Mariners: Left-handed starter James Paxton will throw a bullpen session on Saturday and is on track to return to the rotation against San Francisco early next week. Paxton went on the disabled list on July 13 with lower back stiffness. He said he threw a little during the All-Star break, but the bullpen will tell if he’s ready to go next week.
UP NEXT:
White Sox: RHP Dylan Covey (3-5) takes the hill Saturday in the second game of the three-game set at Safeco Field. Covey is 0-4 with an 11.70 ERA and six home runs allowed over his last five starts.
Mariners: Hernandez (8-7) returns from a DL stint with lower back stiffness. He has allowed three or fewer runs in each of his last five starts.
Don Majkowski is asking for help.
His Packers Hall of Fame ring was stolen from his Baltimore hotel room over the weekend. Majkowski, who played for the Packers from 1987-92, tweeted that he “forgot to put it on one morning and left it on the dresser. Realized it was gone the next day.”
“If anyone sees it out there, let me know!” Majkowski wrote.
The Packers inducted Majkowski into their Hall of Fame in 2005.

The Denver Broncos declined to exercise outside linebacker Shane Ray's $9.23 million fifth-year option for 2019 on Thursday Drew Doughty Jersey , a week after selecting North Carolina State pass rusher Bradley Chubb in the NFL draft.
Ray, the team's top pick in 2015, promised a big bounce-back season after the Broncos selected Chubb with the fifth overall draft pick, something he'll need if he's going to cash in as an unrestricted free agent next March.
Ray's fifth-year option would have been worth more than his four-year, $9,118 Ryan Strome Jersey ,894 rookie contract he signed after the Broncos selected him with the 23rd overall pick in 2015 after his outstanding final season at Missouri in which he won SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Ray, who turns 25 in two weeks, has started just 15 games in three NFL seasons, collecting 84 tackles, 13 sacks and two fumble recoveries.
That production is similar to that of Shaq Barrett, an undrafted free agent from Colorado State who has 108 tackles Authentic Blake Wheeler Jersey , 11 sacks and seven forced fumbles over the past three seasons in Denver, where he started out as a practice squad player in 2014.
Barrett will make $2.914 million this season after the Broncos placed a second-round tender on him this offseason. By contrast, Ray's 2018 salary is $1.678 million.
Playing behind DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller, Ray had a solid rookie season, one that culminated in a pair of tackles and a forced fumble in the Broncos' win over Carolina in Super Bowl 50.
In 2016, he posted eight sacks and 48 tackles and became the first player since Jacksonville's John Henderson in 2002 to collect three sacks in his first career start.
He looked primed for a breakout season last year following Ware's retirement Danton Heinen Jersey Kids , but he broke his left wrist in July, which required a series of surgeries and forced him to miss half the season. Unable to hit the weights, he dropped 17 pounds to 225 and essentially played with just one arm before electing for another surgery with two weeks left in the season. He finished with just one sack and 15 tackles.
Ray took to social media during the draft, promising to rebound from his injury-marred season. After a series of exchanges with his Twitter followers over the weekend, he posted, "No more social media. I'm going dark" with a peace sign emoji.
The Titans weren’t in position to draft Bradley Chubb this April Youth Derek Grant Jersey , but they have signed his older brother.
The team announced on Tuesday that they have signed linebacker Brandon Chubb to their 90-man roster. Chubb went undrafted out of Wake Forest in 2016 and signed with the Rams before moving on to multiple stints with the Lions with a short stay on the 49ers roster mixed in. He has never played in a regular season game.
In addition to signing Chubb, the Titans have also signed tight end Jerome Cunningham. Cunningham spent the summer with the Titans each of the last two years before getting cut. He caught eight passes for 59 yards while playing nine games with the Giants in 2015.
Tight end Phillip Supernaw was released and linebacker Nate Palmer was placed on injured reserve in moves to create openings for the two new arrivals in Tennessee.

The Atlanta Hawks are hiring a young coach in Lloyd Pierce to lead a rebuilding team that is about to add even more youth.
The Hawks announced Friday they are giving Pierce his first head coaching job in the NBA Youth Darnell Nurse Jersey , choosing a man who has been an assistant with Philadelphia and Memphis to rebuild the franchise.
”It was critically important to find a dynamic teacher who could connect with and develop our young core while instilling the culture and high standards we feel are necessary in a successful program,” Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk said in a statement. ”Lloyd Pierce checks every box, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him leading the Atlanta Hawks into the future.”
The Hawks have scheduled a Monday news conference to introduce Pierce.
Pierce, 42, spent the past five seasons as an assistant coach in Philadelphia where the 76ers just reached the Eastern Conference semifinals after finishing third in the conference with a 52-30 record. Pierce also spent two years as assistant coach with Memphis Grizzlies, including 2013 when they reached the 2013 Western Conference finals.
”This is a day I’ve been working toward for a long time and it’s an honor to be the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks,” Pierce said. ”I have great respect for Travis and strong belief in his plan to bring a championship to the city of Atlanta. After spending time with ownership, it’s clear they have a deep investment in and commitment to making this a model organization. This opportunity is a perfect fit for me, and I’m eager to get started.”
More youth is coming in the June 21 NBA draft. The Hawks have three first-round picks http://www.officialblackhawksproshop.com/authentic-adidas-artem-anisimov-jersey , so the rebuilding effort will gain momentum.
Pierce also has been an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors in 2010-11, and he was assistant coach for player development with Cleveland between 2007-10, which included three playoff berths and a spot in the 2009 Eastern finals. Pierce started as an assistant coach at his alma mater at Santa Clara between 2002 and 2007. He played four seasons with two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash a teammate.
Once the decision was made to part ways with former coach Mike Budenholzer, who was interviewing for other jobs, Schlenk emphasized he would seek a replacement to work with such young players as center John Collins and forward Taurean Prince.
Pierce replaces Budenholzer who left last month after five seasons with Atlanta . The Hawks went 24-58 this season, which was worst in the Eastern Conference and tied with Dallas for the NBA’s third-worst record. But they were rarely blown out, losing 21 games by fewer than 10 points with only seven losses by 20 or more points.
The last-place conference finish followed 10 straight playoff appearances. The Hawks hit bottom after the team that won 60 games only three years ago gradually lost such starters as Al Horford, Paul Millsap and Jeff Teague.
When outlining his plan last month to search for Budenholzer’s replacement, Schlenk emphasized he wanted to hire a coach best-suited to work with young players.
”Obviously one of the things that’s most important is having a coach who’s going to connect with our young players Craig Smith Jersey , continue to develop our young players,” he said. ”That’s going to be a big part of it.”

Winnipeg already was gripped by playoff fever. Now, with the Jets in the Western Conference final, the temperature is rising further.
Jets merchandise is flying off shelves, downtown office workers are decked out in team jerseys and organizers must cap attendance at 20,000 for street parties on game nights.
The passion surpasses that of the glory days of 40 years ago when the Jets were champions of the World Hockey Association. Stars of that team are in town this week to join the festivities.
”I don’t recollect any sporting event … bringing the fans into the downtown area and into the excitement that there is today,” Joe Daley, the 1978 squad’s goalie, said before the Jets hosted Game 1 against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. ”I think it’s unbelievable what’s going on.”
Anders Hedberg Keith Yandle Jersey , the right wing who notched 63 goals in 1978 and later returned to his native Sweden, told The Canadian Press he’s not surprised by how fans in the NHL’s smallest market have filled the arena and the streets.
”The relationship to the game is the closest here of all the teams in the National Hockey League,” he said.
The street parties feature fans dressing up in white, watching on big screens next to the arena and listening to onstage entertainment.
Organizers said Friday that for the rest of the playoffs, attendance will be capped and fans must get free tickets in advance if they want to get in. By Friday afternoon, some online ads were offering to resell those free tickets at $25 or more.
Fans can even taste the excitement. A chocolate maker has started selling Jets-themed chocolates in the shape of pucks.
The feeling has been a long time coming for Winnipeg. The Canadian Football League Blue Bombers haven’t won a championship since 1990 and the original Jets never made it this far before leaving for Phoenix in 1996.
The new version of the Jets relocated from Atlanta in 2011 and was swept in the opening round in 2015, the team’s only playoff appearance before this year.
”The entire city, you can really feel the energy,” said Josh Drury Youth Derek Grant Jersey , who along with his wife splits time between home in Winnipeg and running a business in Las Vegas. His loyalty lies completely with the Jets.
”This is really uncharted territory. … Winnipeg sports fans are kind of used to disappointment,” he said.
Daley continued to live in Winnipeg after his playing days. He says this playoff run is great for the city.
”We forget about all the shortcomings that everybody else in Canada thinks we have as a city,” he said. ”Right now, we’re No. 1 in Canada.”

Papa John’s is ending its recently stormy role as an official sponsor of the NFL.
Officials at the pizza chain said Tuesday that the two sides agreed to end the relationship Youth Derek Stepan Jersey , which became strained last year when its founder John Schnatter criticized NFL leadership over national anthem protests by players.
But the company based in Louisville, Kentucky, is not divorcing itself from the league altogether. It says instead it will focus its football marketing efforts on 22 of the league’s 32 teams and its star players.
Schnatter blamed slowing sales growth at Papa John’s on the outcry surrounding football players kneeling during the national anthem. The company later apologized for the remarks and Schnatter stepped down as CEO at the end of last year.

The Detroit Lions bolstered their backup options at quarterback and wide receiver.
Detroit signed Matt Cassel on Monday Nate Thompson Jersey , adding depth behind Matthew Stafford. The Lions also re-signed restricted free agent TJ Jones, giving Stafford another target in the passing game.
Cassel played sparingly the past two seasons in Tennessee and the Titans released him earlier this year, making him an unrestricted free agent. The 13-year veteran also has played for Dallas Ryan Suter Jersey , Buffalo, Minnesota, Kansas City and New England.
He started 15 games with the Patriots in 2008 when Lions general manager Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia worked for the franchise. Cassel has started 81 games in his career Melker Karlsson Jersey , completing 59 percent of his passes for 17,449 yards with 104 touchdowns and 81 interceptions.
Jake Rudock, drafted by Detroit in the sixth round two years ago Colton Parayko Jersey , and Cassel are expecting to compete to be Stafford's backup.
Jones had career highs with 30 receptions and 399 yards receiving last season and caught a touchdown pass. Detroit drafted him in the sixth round in 2014. He has 45 career receptions for 624 yards and two TDs.

OAKLAND Artemi Panarin Jersey , Calif. (AP) — Jon Gruden has quickly put his stamp on the Oakland Raiders in his second stint as coach.
He’s installed his new systems, overhauled more than half the roster and traded star pass rusher Khalil Mack to Chicago just before the start of the season for draft picks.
Gruden’s quest to get the new-look Raiders back to the level they were at during his first stint that ended in 2001 begins at home Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams. Oakland has had just one winning season in the past 15 years.
“We have not had a lot of success,” Gruden said. “We’ve got to turn this team around. We’ve got to get this team built back to where we can compete for championships. It was that way in 1998 and it’s that way 20 years later. We’ve got to put this train back on the track and we’ve tried to assemble the right guys to get us started. We’ll see where we are on Monday night.”
There is quite a bit of intrigue in what Gruden’s offense will look like in his first game as coach in 10 years. He spent the past nine seasons after being fired in Tampa Bay as the analyst for “Monday Night Football.”
Gruden spent much of the offseason talking about wanting to bring the Raiders back to 1998. He showed almost none of his offense in the preseason, but his former protege and current Rams coach Sean McVay knows to expect the unexpected.
“He’s always done such a good job of mixing it up,” McVay said. “I’m sure he’s got a bunch of new wrinkles that he’s added to his arsenal. It’s going to be exciting, but it is a great challenge, really kind of that element of uncertainty and that does make it very difficult.”
Despite the trade of Mack, Gruden has many of the ingredients he needs for a successful season on offense with Derek Carr at quarterback, a strong interior offensive line Ryan Johansen Jersey , a running game led by Marshawn Lynch and a pair of receivers in Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson who have shown big-play ability in the past.
Now he gets a chance to show some new wrinkles that he learned by visiting and watching all the other teams as an announcer.
“I feel like he’s more advanced,” said tackle Donald Penn, who played for Gruden in Tampa Bay in 2007-08. “He’s gotten even smarter. That’s crazy to say because he knows so much already, but I feel like he’s learned even more during that time off.”
Here are some other things to watch:
TEACHER VS. MENTOR: Gruden hired McVay as a 22-year-old assistant wide receivers coach in 2008 but the ties between the families go back further. McVay’s grandfather, John, hired Gruden’s father, Jim, at Dayton in 1970, and helped Jon get his first NFL job as an assistant in San Francisco in 1990. The younger McVay has taken so much from Gruden that he has many of the same mannerisms and sounds so much like his mentor that Jon Gruden joked he does a better impersonation of him than comedian Frank Caliendo.
“I hear it all the time http://www.officialpredators.com/authentic-adidas-ryan-hartman-jersey ,” McVay said. “”But I think probably subconsciously you pick up on some of those things just from being around somebody. I got so much respect for him so I take it as a compliment.”
DOMINANT DONALD: While the Raiders cut ties with 2016 AP Defensive Player of the Year Mack after his contract holdout, the Rams gave last year’s top defensive player Aaron Donald a six-year, $135 million deal, with $87 million guaranteed to end his holdout. Donald, perhaps the game’s top interior pass rusher, joins a defense that added three former All-Pros in the offseason in defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib.
GOFF’S GROWTH: Rams QB Jared Goff took a big step last year after the former No. 1 overall pick struggled in his rookie season in 2016. Goff increased his yards per attempt from 5.3 to 8.0 and his passer rating from 63.6 to 100.5. Goff still sees more room to grow, but didn’t get to show that in the preseason when he didn’t get any snaps because of injuries to the offensive line.
“There’s a bunch of stuff we’ve been working on this offseason that we’re ready to display on Monday night,” Goff said. “A lot of the stuff is from last season that we’re going to continue to do, and then a lot of new stuff that we’re doing.”
DRIVE THE CARR: Carr is looking to bounce back from a down season as he struggled with a back injury and an unimaginative offense by former coordinator Todd Downing. He matched his career high with 13 interceptions and recorded his worst totals in yards Roberto Luongo Jersey , touchdowns and passer rating since his rookie year in 2014. The Raiders hope for a revival under Gruden.
HIDDEN SCHEMES: These teams played just over three weeks ago in an exhibition, although not much can be gleaned from that game. Both teams sat almost all of their starters and showed almost none of the schemes knowing they’d play a game that counts so soon.
“You would think we’d know about them, they would know about us, but all of our starters on both teams were wearing sweatsuits,” Gruden said.
Ben McAdoo interviewed for the Browns offensive coordinator vacancy in January. If the former Giants head coach had gotten the job, would the Browns still have drafted Baker Mayfield No. 1 overall?
McAdoo told the New York Post he had Mayfield ranked sixth among the 2018 quarterback prospects.
(Two questions: 1. Is there anybody in the league McAdoo hasn’t shared his opinion about? 2. Does anybody else want to see him get a TV job?)
The Browns hired Todd Haley as their offensive coordinator and drafted Mayfield as their quarterback of the future.
“I have a lot of respect for how [G.M. John Dorsey] looks at players,” McAdoo, who worked with Dorsey for six seasons in Green Bay, told the Post.
That’s why Dorsey’s selection of the Heisman Trophy winner stumped McAdoo.
“He’s got an edge to him; I like that Jacob Markstrom Jersey ,” McAdoo said of Mayfield. “He’s gonna lead; they’re gonna follow him. I didn’t see a lot of pro-style football in his college tape, and if you’re short you have to be able to make up for it some way, somehow, and personality doesn’t do that.”
McAdoo rated Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen and Mason Rudolph ahead of Mayfield.
“I didn’t think he was a great athlete,” McAdoo said. “This guy is kinda like a pocket quarterback that is short and with small hands. That’s what I worry about.”

The Texans have begun formulating a plan to replace safety Andre Hal. Houston expected to have one of the top safety tandems in the NFL after signing Tyrann Mathieu to start opposite Hal this season.
But Hal Kailer Yamamoto Jersey , who started all 16 games at free safety last season, recently was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He still is being evaluated at MD Anderson Cancer Center to determine his course of treatment.
While he vows to play again, Hal won’t start the season on the field with the Texans.
The Texans will have only five healthy safeties at their minicamp this week, with Mathieu, Justin Reid, Kurtis Drummond, Treston Decoud and Ibraheim Campbell getting reps there. Corey Moore continues to rehab an injury that will keep him out until training camp.
Kenny Vaccaro Tomas Hertl Jersey , Tre Boston and Eric Reid — the older brother of Texans’ rookie Justin — remain available on the free agent market.
The Texans also could consider playing cornerback Kareem Jackson (pictured) more at safety, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. Houston has nine cornerbacks on its roster.
Jackson has played safety in practice and in games, with his versatility an asset for defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel.
The best-case scenario for the Texans would be for Justin Reid, a third-round pick out of Stanford, to win the starting job in training camp.
As we鈥檙e all well aware, NHL players aren鈥檛 going to compete in the Olympics next month in Pyeongchang. The billionaires at the negotiating tables couldn鈥檛 reach an agreement, and as a result hockey fans around the globe will care much less about Olympic hockey this year.

Today we decided to put together a hypothetical Team Canada; that is to say, what would team Canada look like if NHL players were permitted to participate?
The hypothetical team is obviously stacked, and it鈥檚 a shame for many players whose Olympic windows are closing, as well as those whose windows have just opened. The world will not get a chance to see Connor McDavid represent his country on an international level, and that in itself is a travesty.

Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has issued an apology to the Uber driver who accused him of groping her. But the carefully worded apology avoids explaining exactly what he’s apologizing for.
That’s all by design Ryan Miller Jersey , according to NFL Network, which reports that Winston and the NFL had a negotiated settlement that saw Winston accept his three-game suspension without appealing, and offer an apology to the woman Gabriel Landeskog Jersey Kids , but not actually admit any guilt.
And that raises the obvious question: How sincere can an apology really be if it’s part of a negotiated settlement that includes no admission that he actually did what he’s apologizing for?
When Winston was first accused publicly, he left absolutely no doubt about his stance, releasing a statement that said Nikita Zaitsev Jersey Kids , “The accusation is false.” Does Winston stand by that statement? Does he now admit that he groped the woman? Is his statement that he has stopped drinking alcohol intended to suggest that he was drunk and doesn’t remember the incident?
We don’t know, because Winston and the NFL settled on a carefully crafted statement. The NFL is helping Winston cover up exactly what he did by refusing to release his suspension letter, and Winston isn’t saying. Winston has apologized. Even if it’s fair to question the sincerity of an apology that refuses to take responsibility for one’s actions.

Receiver Laquon Treadwell arrived in Minnesota via the first round of the draft Steven Stamkos Jersey , to an offense that had an old-school Cowboys play ready for him to run and a quarterback who needed the accuracy buffer zone provided by Treadwell’s big body. Things haven’t worked out well through two seasons for Treadwell, but things could be changing this year.
On their first depth chart of the year, the Vikings show Treadwell and Kendall Wright as the second-string receivers behind entrenched starters Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. Behind Treadwell and Wright are Stacey Coley and Brandon Zylstra, an intriguing prospect who led the CFL in receiving last year with 1 Zack Smith Jersey ,687 yards on 100 catches.
With Jarius Wright and Michael Floyd gone, someone needs to step up and provide options beyond the starters, who will get the bulk of the attention. Maybe it will be Treadwell Youth Matt Nieto Jersey , who necessarily faces a now-or-never third season in the NFL.

Victor Oladipo feels right at home in Indiana.
Here Lars Eller Jersey , he evolved from a high-flying, college acrobat for the Hoosiers into a legitimate NBA draft prospect. Here, he won over the hearts and minds of a basketball-crazed state. And here, he finally got a chance to tap into his full potential.
Now, five years after being taken No. 2 overall in the draft, the multi-talented guard has returned to his adopted home state, revived a rebuilding Pacers franchise and heads into the playoffs as the favorite to be the league’s Most Improved Player.
”To come out and get 48 wins after everything that happened is a great accomplishment,” Oladipo said after sitting out Tuesday’s 119-93 loss to Charlotte with a sore right foot. ”But there’s a lot more to accomplish and a lot more goals we want to accomplish starting this weekend.”
The only surprise bigger than the Pacers’ remarkable resurgence this season might be Oladipo’s transformation from a potential future star into an NBA All-Star.
Orlando saw the possibilities when it drafted the junior back in 2013 but wound up trading him to Oklahoma City in July 2016. With the Thunder Authentic Pekka Rinne Jersey Kids , Oladipo served a one-year apprenticeship with eventual MVP Russell Westbrook – a year Oladipo credits with helping him emerge as the budding star he has become.
But when the Thunder got a chance to pair Westbrook with four-time All-Star Paul George of Indiana, they put Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis on the trading block. Things could not have worked out better for the players – or the Pacers.
Oladipo and Sabonis each played key roles in helping the Pacers shed the preseason projection of NBA lottery team, and Oladipo has finally found a place where he can be himself.
”I know it kind of came out of nowhere (for fans), especially after the trade. People were kind of down on Vic last year for some odd reason,” said Kevin Durant, the Golden State star who grew up in the same Maryland county as Oladipo. ”To see the trade and how people viewed that trade, and then he just turned it up throughout the season. For me, I thought it was expected of him. I’m very excited for Vic and happy for him and I know he’s going to keep getting better as a player.”
Returning to Indiana certainly helped. Hoosiers fans revered Oladipo because of how he played the game. They embraced the passion and heart he showed on the court http://www.officialbluejackets.com/authentic-adidas-david-savard-jersey , the effort he made on defense and believed he spoke a language any true basketball fan respects. Time hasn’t changed that part of Oladipo’s game.
”He is himself every day, and then he’s just very positive all the time,” Myles Turner said. ”Even when things aren’t going well, he’s still talking, still getting guys involved, still hyping everybody else up.”
After spending four years looking for the right fit, Oladipo found it in Indy:
His scoring total increased by nearly 30 percent over his previous career best and 45 percent over last season. His averages of 23.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.3 are all career highs. His average of 2.36 steals is the highest single season average of anyone in the NBA since 2013-14 and his 77 steals were 18 ahead of George Martin Jones Jersey , who is second, heading into the final night of the regular season.
Even opposing coaches and players acknowledge Oladipo’s breakout season should make the fifth Indiana player to earn the most improved award since 2000.
”Oh, definitely,” Lance Stephenson said, almost scoffing at the question. ”In my eyes, he’s the MVP. He’s played terrific.”
Oladipo knows there’s still plenty more to do and his blazing speed and charismatic charm make the possibilities seem endless for the 25-year-old.
The next chapter begins in the playoffs. In his previous four seasons, Oladipo has won only one postseason game and he doesn’t want this season’s magical ride to end before he can celebrate winning his first playoff series with his teammates.
And the message he sent Tuesday night resounded throughout the state.
”We’re going to go in there and win,” he said. ”We’re not going to go in there and try to win. We’re going to go in there and win.”

MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers kept hoping Eric Sogard would find a way out of his funk and return to the form that made him a key component to last year’s surprising team.
It never happened and the Brewers finally ran out of time and roster space Womens Connor Hellebuyck Jersey , leaving no choice but to designate the 32-year-old for assignment when Tyler Saladino was activated from the disabled list Thursday.
With Jonathan Villar unable to reproduce his 2016 magic, Sogard provided a spark atop Milwaukee’s lineup last season. He batted .273 with a .393 on-base percentage in 94 games and signed a $2.4 million deal to return to Milwaukee in 2018.
But he got off to a painfully slow start and saw his playing time diminish even further as Villar showed improvement at second base. Through 55 games this season, Sogard was batting .134 with a .241 OBP and .165 slugging percentage.
With Tyler Saladino returning from the disabled list and recently promoted Brad Miller swinging a hot bat, Sogard became the odd-man out.
“Eric got in a little slump, had some bad luck, and he could never get out of it Youth Jordan Weal Jersey ,” manager Craig Counsell said. As we’re getting healthier, we kind of ran out of space. He’s made a big contribution here, and was a real pro throughout all of this in how he prepared and provided us value.”
Counsell’s squad extended its winning streak to four games with a victory in the series opener and will try to move 18 games above .500 for the first time since the 2014 season Friday as it continues a four-game series with the Braves at Miller Park.
Rookie right-hander Freddie Peralta gets the nod for his sixth career start. He earned his first career loss in his last outing but still made a good impression, putting up zeroes for four innings after allowing three runs to score before recording an out in an 8-2 loss to the Reds on Sunday in Cincinnati.
“I thought he handled it very well,” Counsell said. “That’s a game where we’re probably two hitters from probably removing him from the game, and then he goes five innings and keeps us in the game.”
Peralta has been magnificent otherwise since returning for a second big league stint June 19. He’s 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA in three starts and has struck out 22 batters while walking only four in 18 innings.
He also made a pair of starts for the Brewers in May and takes the mound Friday with a 3-1 record and 2.28 ERA overall.
Right-hander Mike Foltynewicz gets the nod for the Braves Paul Stastny Jersey , as he tries to lock down a spot on the National League All-Star team.
Foltynewicz has an 0.87 ERA over his last nine starts, holding opponents to a .146 average during that stretch with 64 strikeouts in 52 innings.
Opponents scored more than one run against him in one of those outings and he’s held opponents scoreless in five of them, including his last time out when the Cardinals managed one hit against him in five innings.
He credits his slider for the recent run of success.
“I’m really proud of how far that pitch has come,” Foltynewicz said. “I’ve been working like a dog on it the past couple of years, and it’s come a long way. I’m throwing it for strikes when I need to, especially in 3-2 counts. I get to 3-2 a lot Rickard Rakell Jersey , so it’s a good pitch for me.”
Foltynewicz has dominated the Brewers during his four seasons in the big leagues, posting a 1.48 ERA in four career starts against Milwaukee. He faced them twice last season, allowing two earned runs (five total) over 11 innings while striking out 15.
Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan calls permanently removing tarps from EverBank Field ”the most important thing” for the small-market franchise.
The Jaguars removed four tarps from the upper deck for the playoffs last season, opening up 3,500 additional seats.
The team announced in February it would keep the tarps off for good because of an increased demand for season tickets.
Khan says ”the look it gives us is not a good look for the city; it’s not a good look for the Jags.”
The tarps became part of the stadium after Jacksonville had half of its home games blacked out on local television between 2001 and 2004. Stadium capacity is now 67,932 Jordan Staal Jersey , and Khan says filling those seats creates a home-field advantage that has been missing from Jacksonville for years.
He says ”a key lesson for me is I don’t want to go back to when we don’t have a home-field advantage. That means no tarps. That means fans cheering the Jags on. I think it’s a vital, vital competitive advantage.”
