Reasons to be excited: Start with familiar faces on the

opposite side who played a huge part in the Patriots' Super Bowl win last year -- running back LeGarrette Blount and defensive end Chris Long. They are thought of highly in New England and now to win another Super Bowl, the Patriots will have to stop them. And then consider this angle: When the Patriots won their third Super Bowl in four years in the 2004 season, they beat the Eagles to do so. Devin McCourty Authentic Jersey Now as they go for a third Super Bowl in four years, it is the Eagles again. Neat storyline. Finally, a Tom Brady vs. Nick Foles quarterback battle favors New England.

Reasons to be concerned: For those who believe "defense wins championships," this isn't good news for the Patriots. The defenses that have had the greatest success against the Patriots are those that can rush four and get pressure on Brady, while dropping seven into coverage. The Philadelphia defense has shown the ability to do so.
Patriots will win if: They win the turnover differential. Arguably the most impressive statistic in the Bill Belichick era is the Patriots are 159-15 when they have a positive turnover differential (including playoffs). So always start there when it comes to the team's chances at winning. -- Mike Reiss
X factor: Danny Amendola, WR. Amendola has racked up 196 yards and two touchdowns on 18 grabs this postseason. It's the route running, the quickness and the scheme in New England that makes him a prime X factor in the Super Bowl. Look at how the Patriots create space inside of the numbers or focus on Amendola's ability to shake coverage in a phone booth. This allows Brady to dice up the middle of the field on high-percentage throws in the short-to-intermediate passing game. And that's a blueprint for success. -- Matt BowenStat nugget: The Patriots are the first team with 10 Super Bowl appearances. They're 5-4 in their previous nine. The Steelers, Cowboys and Broncos are tied for the second-most appearances at eight apiece. -- ESPN Stats & Information
Reasons to be excited: They've proven they're an elite team that is able to overcome any obstacle, no matter the circumstance. They lost franchise QB Carson Wentz, left tackle Jason Peters, running back Darren Sproles and linebacker Jordan Hicks before him, and still pushed through the NFC to reach the Super Bowl for the third time in franchise history.
Reasons to be concerned: Well, there's the whole Brady-Belichick thing. They've dominated the league for the past couple of decades, winning five championships. One came against the Eagles after the 2004 regular season. They're going against legends, and doing so without their best player, Wentz.
Eagles will win if: They're able to pressure Brady with their four-man rush. Their D-line has been the team's top strength over the course of the season. If defensive end Brandon Graham and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox are able to dominate, and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz doesn't have to bring many blitzes, the Eagles will be well-positioned to capture their first Lombardi Trophy. -- Tim McManus
X factor: Malcolm Jenkins, S. Jenkins' versatility should be on full display in what I expect to be an aggressive defensive game plan under Schwartz. Look for Jenkins to get some matchups against Rob Gronkowski (pending his status). He has the skill set and the physicality to compete in coverage. And don't forget about Jenkins coming hard off the edge in those Philadelphia blitz packages. Add in the ability to drop down as a run defender, and Jenkins can have a major impact against Brady and the Patriots' offense. -- Matt Bowen
Stat nugget: There are several similarities between the 2017 Eagles and the franchise's other two Super Bowl teams (2004 and 1980). All three started 10-1, set (or matched) franchise records in wins, finished in the top 10 in total offense and defense, lost their final game of the regular season and beat the Vikings in the playoffs. -- ESPN Stats & Information
Domonique Foxworth, The Undefeated senior writer: Eagles. My head tells me never bet against Brady, but my gut disagrees. My gut tells me that the Eagles will be able to move the ball and score against New England, more than the Patriots will against Philadelphia's defense and special teams.Mina Kimes, senior writer: Patriots. Foles put up the performance of his career on Sunday. Can we expect lightning to strike twice?
Mike Sando, senior NFL writer: Patriots. I'll take the team with the greatest head coach/quarterback combination in NFL history against the team with its backup QB in the lineup. With Brady, the Patriots have the ability to play from well behind and still win. That separates New England. evin Seifert, national NFL writer: Patriots. No one outsmarts the Patriots, even Nick Vigil Jersey the Eagles' very formidable coaching staff.
Field Yates, NFL Insider: Patriots. While the Eagles were the most dominant team during conference championship weekend and have a terrific roster from top to bottom, the precision of the Patriots' offense balanced by an ascending and confident defense will propel this team to its sixth Lombardi Trophy.

Everton cannot play

Sam Allardyce has admitted that Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson cannot both be accommodated in his Everton team because of their lack of pace, raising the prospect that one of the club’s high-profile summer signings will be forced to play a supporting role over the rest of the season.

Rooney was dropped to the bench for the 1-1 draw against West Brom on Saturday, with Sigurdsson moving from the left flank into the No 10 position. In fact Everton toiled despite the change, livening up only briefly when Rooney emerged to play a big part in Oumar Niasse’s undeserved equaliser, but Allardyce says it is hard to envisage a future where both players would start.
“Last week I said we have not got a lot of legs in the team and we need to be quicker,” Allardyce said. “We’ve increased that with Theo [Walcott] and Yannick [Bolasie] when he gets back to full fitness but in midfield you have to be able to cover the ground. I think Rooney and Gylfi playing together are very shrewd, very clever and talented players but in actual terms of covering the ground it is difficult – it’s not their strength.
“So I have to make a big decision on who plays this one and who plays for next one. For me, Gylfi has been trudging away outside on the left side, so play him in the position he wants to play and see what he can do.
“As a team we are light in legs, in pace. And that is something I have Sean Harlow Jersey to cope with until the end of this season and we look at the whole squad and say: ‘What do we do to make it better?’”
Allardyce’s comments can be read, directly or not, as an indictment on a summer transfer policy that led to Everton lavishing a record transfer spend under Ronald Koeman, who preceded Allardyce at Goodison Park. Sigurdsson’s arrival from Swansea Josh Jones Jersey cost £40m and the return of Rooney from Manchester United, while on a free transfer, entailed wages of around £150,000 a week. Rooney has had the better season of the pair, scoring 10 goals, although Sigurdsson’s form has picked up under Allardyce and the Iceland international is, at 28, four years younger than his team-mate.
Everton’s poor planning is returning to haunt them and Allardyce, who oversaw a marked improvement in the weeks after his arrival in November, is now deeply concerned about a return of old habits. They remain seven points clear of the relegation zone but the turgid performance against West Brom, added to an abysmal display at Tottenham a week previously, has spooked their manager.
Asked whether he was concerned about slipping back towards the dogfight at the bottom, Allardyce said: “Yes, very, especially after performing like that, and last week’s second-half performance. I’ve seen a huge drain of confidence in the players over the space of one and a half football matches.
“The quality of the Tottenham side, I could accept that, but West Brom are in the bottom three. If anyone should be suffering from nerves it should be them rather than us.”
An even bigger disappointment was the double leg fracture sustained by James McCarthy in denying Salomón Rondón. It happened “in his brave efforts to stop West Brom scoring”, as Allardyce put it; the injury looked ghastly and, although no timescale for McCarthy’s recovery has been laid out, he will surely miss the rest of the season.

How much should Hall of Fame voters care about defense

Omar Vizquel made his major league debut a few weeks shy of his 22nd birthday, on Opening Day in 1989. Ken Griffey Jr. made his debut in the same game. Hitting eighth, one spot ahead of Vizquel, was another rookie named Edgar Martinez. A fourth rookie, Randy Johnson, joined those Seattle Mariners later in the season. The skinny, little shortstop from Venezuela hit .220 Justin Pugh Youth jersey that season, with just 11 extra-base hits and one stolen base in 143 games. Yet he outlasted all his famous teammates, playing his final game in the majors when he was 45 years old.

Vizquel is on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time, and though he isn't going to be elected this year, he’s faring reasonably well for a borderline first-time candidate, polling at 30.3 percent of the publicly revealed ballots, as registered by Ryan Thibodaux’s Hall of Fame tracker. That Vizquel is a serious Hall of Fame candidate is a minor miracle in itself, given his anemic hitting at the start of his career. Although he improved at the plate later on, his argument Stefen Wisniewski Jersey is a testament to his defense and longevity: He won 11 Gold Gloves and played more games at shortstop than any other man in major league history.

What’s interesting about Vizquel’s vote total is that this ballot features two other first-time candidates known for their superlative defense: Andruw Jones and Scott Rolen. Unlike Vizquel, both also were consistent threats at the plate. Jones, however, will struggle to remain on the ballot, as he is earning just 5.4 percent of the public vote, while Rolen has done just a little better, at 11.9 percent.
Vizquel’s 30 percent is a long way from the 75 percent needed for election, but it potentially puts him on the path to election. Of the 22 players the BBWAA has elected since 2006, five started with one-third of the vote total or less:Beyond that group, Martinez, Vizquel’s Mariners teammate, started at 36.2 percent, then dipped to 25 and 27 percent in 2014 and 2015, but is currently polling at 81.1 percent on his next-to-last time on the ballot.
Vizquel’s ultimate election is dependent on the view that he was a transcendent defensive shortstop, the Ozzie Smith of the American League in the 1990s and early 2000s. While Smith had insane athleticism and acrobatic ability, Vizquel made defense look easy. He was known for his great hands. “I could watch him take grounders all day,” Buddy Bell, his coach with the Indians, once said. Vizquel could certainly make the acrobatic play as well -- he was known for his barehanded grabs -- but his success always seemed rooted in fundamentals. While his contemporary Derek Jeter had terrible mechanics, most notably throwing off the wrong foot, and Devon Travis Authentic Jersey Alex Rodriguez sort of bulldozed his way through playing shortstop, Vizquel always seemed in perfect balance, the guy who could stand on the big rubber ball and never fall off.
Was he as good as Ozzie? My opinion is that he was not. As fluid and smooth as he was, Vizquel didn’t have a great arm. At the peak of Vizquel’s career, Bill James wrote, “Vizquel is a very good defensive shortstop; whether he is actually the glove magician reflected in Gold Glove voting is a question capable of debate, and I am at best lukewarm about the media practice of anointing one man the king of shortstops, when there are other guys (Neifi Perez, Rey Ordonez, Miguel Tejada) who I think may be just as good.”
All of this gets into the complications that measuring defense creates for Hall of Fame candidates. Why the support for Vizquel and not Jones, who won 10 Gold Gloves in center field for the Atlanta Braves and hit 434 home runs? Why Vizquel and not Rolen, who won eight Gold Gloves at third base and hit .281/.364/.490 with 316 home runs and nearly 1,300 RBIs in his career?Vizquel’s current percentage stands out in this chart of other players with outstanding defensive reputations who haven’t sniffed Cooperstown, even though some of them were also big-time hitters at times in their careers:
Quick explanation: We have years on the ballot, each player’s peak vote total, Gold Gloves, fielding runs above average from, defensive WAR (which includes a positional adjustment) and total WAR. t’s the fielding-runs metric that gets a little tricky because different estimates are used based on the available information. Since 2003, Baseball-Reference uses defensive runs saved, which includes Geno Atkins Youth jersey video review of every play from Baseball Info Solutions. Prior to that, the site uses Total Zone, a retroactive estimate.
That means different metrics for different players. James recently raised this issue on Twitter when he argued against Jones’ Hall of Fame qualifications, pointing out that the defensive metrics suggest Jones was a far superior center fielder than Willie Mays. During his 11-year peak from 1997-2007, Jones is credited with 238 fielding runs. Mays, during a similar 11-year run from 1954-1965, is credited with 156 fielding runs. Now, James isn’t necessarily arguing that Jones wasn’t better than Mays; while he was active, it was certainly popular to suggest that Jones was the best center fielder since Mays and maybe his superior. Jones played an incredibly shallow center field and maybe that allowed him to cut off many short hits while retaining the ability to go back on deeper balls. But was Jones so much better? His Hall of Fame case rests on the belief that, yes, he was much better than Mays.
At shortstop, eight of the top 10 seasons have come since 1999, with only a Mark Belanger season and one Ozzie season cracking the top 10. Simmons has three of the top 10 seasons, which gets us back to the Vizquel question: How do you feel about Andrelton Simmons as a Hall of Famer? Simmons is Vizquel with a better arm and, so far at least, a little better stick. In just five-plus seasons in the majors, Simmons already has more career fielding runs than Vizquel.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan jerseys

One game – or, more accurately, one half‑game – dominates the memory of Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s time at Manchester United. In the league derby at Old Trafford last season, the first meeting in England of José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, the Armenian looked lost. He was partly responsible for the opening goal because of the way he initially did not press Pablo Zabaleta and then finally went far too late, and he was withdrawn at half-time. He did not play for two months after that.

That seems to have contributed to a general sense that Mkhitaryan was somehow lightweight, unsuited to the defensive demands Mourinho makes of his players. It is true that Mkhitaryan is not as robust as many in this United squad, which is, after all, the tallest of any team in Europe’s five major leagues. It is also true that, although he had occasional flurries of good form, most notably in the Europa League towards the end of last season, there were far too many games in which he wandered about uninvolved, looking dispirited and vaguely confused.

The accusation was that Mkhitaryan was flaky, not quite up to it. Given the struggles of Shinji Kagawa and Nuri Sahin to impose themselves on the Premier League, was there something about Borussia Dortmund that meant their alumni were unsuited to English football?
There is, of course, always an issue when a player leaves an environment as idiosyncratic as Dortmund was under Jürgen Klopp, but the idea that Mkhitaryan did not fancy the defensive side of the game makes little sense given the success he had both Mitchell Stephens Youth jersey with Dortmund and Shakhtar, teams whose style was rooted in hard pressing, in which there is no place for shirkers. In his three seasons in the Bundesliga, Mkhitaryan regained possession through tackles and interceptions 2.7 times per game, 3.2 times per game and 3.2 times per game.
The Ukrainian league perhaps would not offer a fair comparison, even if the data were readily available, but in three Champions League campaigns at Shakhtar, albeit that being a small sample size, he regained possession 4.0, 6.1 and 4.4 times per game. And yet, at United, he regained possession just 1.9 times per league game last season and just 1.5 this. That suggests the issue is not an inherent failing, but perhaps to do with how he was used.
United under Mourinho do not press in anything like the consistent or concerted way that Dortmund and Shakhtar did. Only occasionally – as for spells in the Europa League final last season, when Mkhitaryan was excellent – do they play with a high line. Often Mkhitaryan found himself having to provide the creative link between a deep-lying rearguard and holding midfield and a distant striker. It was then that he seemed uncomfortable.
Arsenal probably do have a policy on pressing, although it has not been readily discernible for some time. Given Arsène Wenger’s obsession with Adolphus Washington Jersey the Ajax team of the early 70s, Arsenal’s glut of technical players and their lack of players with traditional defensive qualities, they should be a high-tempo, high-line side. But there have been times recently when they have been almost as lax in that regard as they are with extending players’ contracts. But their best recent performances – in the FA Cup semi‑final and final last season, at home against Tottenham this season – have been based on an energetic press and Mkhitaryan should fit comfortably into that.
Precisely where he fits in a formation is a little trickier to say. Arsenal this season have used 3‑4‑2‑1 and 4-2-3-1. On Saturday, in the 4-1 win against Crystal Palace, it was 4-3-3. Although Mkhitaryan can play wide – in the Europa League final, for instance, he started on the left of a 4-3-3 – the general perception is he is more comfortable through the middle, which could potentially create problems if Mesut Özil were to agree a new contract and stay.
Could you play Mkhitaryan and Özil together? Potentially, in a 3-4-2-1. With one of them wide, though, there may be a lack of dynamism on the flanks. Certainly with Mkhitaryan and Özil in tandem, there should be no lack of supply to a central striker (albeit there is a danger that an approach based on through-balls falters against a deep-lying opponent). It is a measure of how detached Mkhitaryan often seemed at United that, having registered 15 assists in his final campaign in the Bundesliga, he set up only six goals in his season and Womens Reggie Ragland Jersey a half at Old Trafford, five of them in the first three games of this season.Henrikh Mkhitaryan nike nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys mlb jerseys cheap cheap jerseys 90 mlb jerseys usa nfl jerseys cheap

Except the Patriots never quit

They just make second-half adjustments, make you play the entire field and the entire clock, and wait for you to break. With 55 seconds to go in the first half and two timeouts to work with from his own 25, Bortles took a knee, and then another, to bleed out the clock. No chance Brady takes a knee there. None.

In the end, Brady made the Jaguars pay for their mistakes, just like he made the Falcons pay for theirs in Super Bowl LI. Up in the press box, the Jacksonville executive and former New York Giants coach who had denied Brady two more rings and a 19-0 season, Tom Coughlin, was chomping his gum and cursing the fates as his face turned redder by the possession. Brady held up yet another Lamar Hunt Trophy in his injured hand in the postgame ceremony, and the fans once again chanted his name.Thirteen years after he beat the Eagles to win his third title in four years, Brady has a chance to do it all over again. What would he have thought as a sixth-round rookie if someone told him this staggering run was in the stars?

I would have thought you were crazy to think that, or I was crazy to think that," Brady said. "I guess it's Devon Kennard Authentic Jersey my life, so I'm living it and it feels very natural and normal because I wake up every day and I feel very Authentic Emmanuel Lamur Jersey much the same as I did when I walked in here 18 years ago."
Maybe not quite the same. Before Brady's latest AFC Championship Game conquest, a man stood outside the adjacent fitness center the quarterback runs with Guerrero, TB12, and hawked TB12 shirts, hats and scarves. Not bad for a clueless college kid who dreamed of making enough NFL money to wear a new pair of socks every day of his charmed life.Brady built his empire the hard way and still plans to carry his career into his mid-to-late 40s. If his durability created tension in the building, you know what? Every NFL franchise would kill to be so lucky.
Reasons to be Adrian Phillips Womens Jersey excited: Start with familiar faces on the opposite side who played a huge part in the Patriots' Super Bowl win last year -- running back LeGarrette Blount and defensive end Chris Long. Courtney Cronin, NFL Nation Vikings reporter: I used to think Bridgewater took priority over Keenum in terms of how the Vikings view their long-term plans at quarterback. I’m not so sure anymore, even after Keenum’s clunker in the NFC Championship Game. Keenum did a lot to earn the job going forward, including winning a playoff game. Despite Pat Shurmur being all but signed, sealed and delivered to the New York Giants as their next head coach, the Vikings' offense is going to look very similar to how it does now, aside from the expected retirement of right guard Joe Berger and possibility of Jerick McKinnon getting a deal elsewhere in free agency. Minnesota has the core of its playmakers coming back next year, including the return of Dalvin Cook.
The Vikings will go after an offensive coordinator who will build his system around his personnel just like Shurmur did, so it’s not hard to imagine Keenum having continued success under center in Minnesota. Plus, I’m not so sure I believe the Keenum-Shurmur package deal will come to fruition after all. New York can stick with Eli Manning, who is under contract for two more years, have last year’s third-round pick, Davis Webb, next in line and can use the No. 2 overall pick on a quarterback if it so chooses. The other question is this: If Keenum is the Vikings' starter in 2018, what happens to Bridgewater and Bradford? Both believe they can be starters, but will the Vikings be able to convince one of them to return as a backup next season?
Matt Bowen, NFL writer: Keenum’s ability to thrive in Shurmur’s offense put the Vikings on the door of the Super Bowl. But with Shurmur reportedly leaving to take over the Giants, I expect the Vikings to let Keenum test free agency. Look for the veteran to earn starting money on the market and for Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer to re-sign Bridgewater as the front-runner to land the starting job in ’18 after a full offseason of work.
Dan Graziano, NFL writer: I predict that Bridgewater will lead the Vikings in quarterback starts in 2018. My expectation is that they re-sign him and Keenum, but that Bridgewater (a favorite of the coaching staff’s) either wins a training camp competition to begin the season as the starter or ends up taking over the job at some point during the season. I still think the Vikings view Bridgewater as their long-term guy and don’t think he has had the chance to fully develop into that role yet.,106827

Tom Brady's age-defying brilliance is the best kind of problem

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- A fresh pair of socks. As a young quarterback at Michigan, that is all Tom Brady wanted out of Authentic JaVale McGee Jersey life. He was talking about the future one night with his teammate, Aaron Shea, dreaming like college boys do, when he asked Shea what he would want if he made it big in the NFL. A Dodge Viper and a house in Hawaii," Shea said. "How about you?" Me?" Brady responded. "I'd like to wear a pair of socks every day, and at the end of the day throw them away and put new socks on."

So many people have been criticized and ridiculed over the years for missing on Brady, from his college coach Lloyd Carr to all the NFL executives and scouts who passed on him in the 2000 draft, and yet the quarterback had no idea where his life was headed, either. Yes, as a 199th overall pick, Brady famously told Robert Kraft, New England Patriots' owner, that he was the best decision Kraft's franchise ever made. But before that draft, Brady also told Shea he worried about flunking out of the NFL and ending up in the insurance business.
All these years later, even with an injured throwing hand, Brady turned out to be the most reliable insurance policy the NFL has ever seen. He won his record fifth Super Bowl title last February by leading a record comeback after being down 28-3 to Atlanta. On Sunday, he earned his eighth trip to the biggest game in American sports with a fourth-quarter comeback against Jacksonville in a 24-20 victory that was no less improbable and, given the circumstances (fighting through double-figure stitches in his money hand), no less impactful on his ever-expanding legacy.
The recent palace intrigue actually threw a brighter spotlight on his greatness, too. Before this AFC Championship Game, in a sit-down interview with the NFL Network, Kraft said he believed he could keep this Patriots machine rolling for some seasons to come ... with a little finesse work in the human relations department. "There's a lot of strong-minded people," the owner said, "but when you have something good going, everybody's got to get their egos checked in and try to hold it together."
Of course, those would be the same egos ESPN's Seth Wickersham wrote about to some outcry, the egos belonging to Brady, Bill Belichick and Kraft himself. But here's the most forgotten component of the tension that was starting to wear on the NFL's most ferocious three-headed dragon: Brady's sustained brilliance is the only reason that tension existed. Still playing at an MVP level at age 40, Brady became the first Patriot to outkick Belichick's coverage.
The coach had it all set up for his 2014 draft pick, Jimmy Garoppolo, to take over when Brady declined. This question wasn't part of draft-room discussions: What if Brady never declines? Belichick had established a system that rattled off championships and title game appearances at a dizzying pace, discarding a parade of decorated players a year early -- rather than a year late -- along the way, and nobody was durable enough to beat that system.
Nobody except Brady, an ageless player who happens to play what has become an ageless position. The Patriot Way software didn't account for a Benjamin Button-like figure to take the ball and never give it back. That's why Belichick traded a young star he didn't want to trade and why the franchise that forever leads the league in self-examination started pointing more fingers than the usual bottom-feeders in the AFC East.
You want your silver lining to the dark clouds that surfaced this year, Patriots fans? Here it is: Brady caused those nasty organizational fissures by doing to his 2017 opponents what he did to the Jaguars, throwing the two touchdown passes in the final nine minutes to send the Patriots to a Super Bowl LII matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. Once upon a time, Brady watched the San Francisco 49ers trade away his boyhood idol, Joe Montana, to make room for Steve
Belichick kept the right quarterback, by the way, and how could anyone doubt that after Brady threw for 138 yards and those two scores in the fourth quarter alone? The Jaguars had physically controlled the Patriots for much of this game. The underdogs had dominated the line of scrimmage and knocked out Rob Gronkowski with a shot to the head. Blake Bortles, of all people, had outplayed Brady, whose bloody run-in with Rex Burkhead's helmet in Wednesday's practice seemed a most unworthy end to a defending champ's year. My season can't end on a handoff in practice," Brady told himself afterward. "I didn't come this far to end on a handoff."
He wasn't sure he would play until a promising Friday turned into an encouraging Saturday, and by Sunday night a victorious Brady was wearing another gray AFC Championship T-shirt and publicly thanking the doctors, trainers and Alex Guerrero, the fitness guru and Aaron Ripkowski Jersey life coach Belichick demoted to second string. Perhaps that little plug for "Alex" was Brady's second victory of the night. Tom did a great job, and he's a tough guy. We all know that, all right?" Belichick said. "But we're not talking about open-heart surgery here."
No, and we're not talking about Curt Schilling's ankle in the 2004 postseason or Michael Jordan's flu in the 1997 NBA Finals, either. But still, it isn't easy throwing a football against a lethal defense with a hand that only a few days ago looked like something out of a low-budget zombie film. I've never had anything like it," Brady said. "Well, I've had a couple of crazy injuries, but this was pretty crazy."
The quarterback didn't want to say the injury or hand-wrapping impacted his performance for fear of sounding like an in-his-prime Tiger Woods winning a golf tournament with what he then-identified as his C-game. And truth be told, Brady might not have been the best Patriot on the field. Danny Amendola made a special catch on his second touchdown, the game winner, and spent the afternoon playing all-around football the way Jim Thorpe played it. With the Patriots down 20-10, Amendola's 21-yard catch on third-and-18 only saved the season. If you look up 'good football player' in the dictionary," Belichick said, "his picture is right there beside it." If the NFL's greatest all-time coach says that about you, you might as well quit on the spot. nfl jerseys china basketball jerseys cheap nba jerseys cheap jerseys from china

gave me the belief

Dear Cyrille Regis, I’m writing to you now because your untimely death means that there are things I didn’t get the chance to say to you and because I want you to know the extent of how positive your influence has been on my life and that of my family.

Every Saturday was Womens Sterling Shepard Jersey by the far the most exciting, memorable day I recall as a young boy growing up with my dad, Leroy, being a professional footballer. My happiest memories as a child were waking up in our flat in Streatham, south London, putting on my West Ham shirt with my brother Daron (more often than not before we brushed our teeth) and sitting in awe with Dad as he ate his pre-match fry-up in preparation for his big game at Upton Park in the late 80s.

We would then make the hour-long drive across London together as a family and as his sons we had the luxury of not only watching our dad play against the biggest teams in the country, we also had the opportunity to be in the dressing room warming up with household names such as Liam Brady, Paul Ince and Julian Dicks 20 minutes before kick-off.
Those are memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life and they inspired me to become a professional footballer, but without your poise, class, bravery, skill and desire to break down barriers and play the game you love under immense pressure and scrutiny I doubt I would ever have had these precious times.
You see, even though you were only six years older than him you were my dad’s hero. You were the man he based his game on – watching not only your world‑class, outstanding, centre-forward play and goals for West Brom as a teenager – but also the elegance, determination and drive to perform at the incredible level that you did in the face of cruel, inhumane abuse directed at you for the perceived “crime” of the colour of your skin.
My father Geoff Swaim Youth jersey admits that the pain of vile racism in football had caused him to question his career choice but he had you as a reference point and an example and that helped convince him that you could be a successful, black footballer in the racially stereotyped climate of the 1970s and 80s in our country. If it wasn’t for you he may never have found the confidence, fortitude and self-belief to make a career in the game he loved so much and in turn, those lifelong memories and experiences that I gained as a young boy through my dad wouldn’t have happened so I too may never have enjoyed my own football career without your influence.
With the racial prejudice that you and other players had to put up with and in turn break down I may never have had the luxury of lacing my boots up at 3pm every Saturday with thoughts of dealing with racism from the terraces or opponents the furthest thing from my mind. If it wasn’t for you pushing forward with fearlessness and pride through the time you received a bullet in the post Charles Barkley Authentic Jersey after being selected to represent England, put up with chants of “nigger lick my boots” or bananas routinely being thrown on the pitch with the dignity that you did, the multicultural game that we now take for granted would have taken even longer to come about.
Your immense presence and ability also forced our society to look in the mirror and challenge itself to be better and this is why I am compelled to write this letter to you out of respect, gratitude and honour for the true icon and pioneer of our game. Your goals gave millions of football supporters joy, but your kind-hearted, strong and courageous character gave the generation beneath you (including me) the belief to push forward and follow their dreams without the overt, sickening racism that you and other players had to contend with during your playing career.
The best way that we as the younger generation can honour your legacy is to use the benefits that your struggle has afforded us and move this game and our society further forward. We have a duty to you to uphold your example of skill, humility, passion and respect for future generations to learn that no matter your race, gender, faith or creed, we all have a positive role to play in our society.
We have a duty to you to follow your message Womens Starling Marte Jersey that the best way to beat the bigots is to be ourselves, strive to be outstanding at what we do and smile while doing it. Where the Blue Jackets should trade Jack Johnson

According to a recent report, veteran Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson has requested a trade to a team where he can play a more prominent role and position himself better for the upcoming 2018 free-agent season. With such defensemen likely to be in particularly abundant supply and demand at the deadline, what kind of transaction can we expect?

Within NHL front offices, Johnson is a highly regarded two-way defenseman with a strong physical presence. He was selected third overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2005 draft, the same draft in which Sidney Crosby was selected first overall. hough he has never received a vote for either the Norris Trophy or the end-of-season All-Star team, Johnson was chosen for the star-studded Team USA that won the silver medal at the 2010 Olympics, and also for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
His NHL teams have yet to win a playoff series, but Johnson is still believed to be a big-game performer because of his success in those international competitions, and because he leads active defensemen with an average of 0.91 points per game in the playoffs (21 points in 23 games).
Despite these impressive credentials, Johnson may be one of those players whose reputation is in conflict with his underlying numbers. While he unquestionably has handled some of the league's toughest minutes over the years, there is some dispute about how effective he has been in that No. 1 role, and that it may be far more appropriate for him to remain further down the depth chart.
The right deployment
After being acquired from the Los Angeles Kings Joe Staley Youth jersey along with a first-round pick for Jeff Carter on Feb. 23, 2012, Johnson assumed a role as the team's No. 1 defenseman. From Day 1, he was buried in tough minutes in the defensive zone and against top opponents on the team's otherwise weak blue line. In a situation that bears a resemblance to Rasmus Ristolainen in Buffalo today, Johnson seemed to struggle in that overly ambitious role, and his shot-based metrics were consistently among the worst in the NHL.
Another blockbuster trade turned the tide in Columbus, when Seth Jones was acquired for Ryan Johansen on Jan. 6, 2016. Later that season, Jones formed the team's new top pair with rookie Zach Werenski, who was selected eighth overall in the 2015 draft. ith Jones and Werenski helping to shoulder the burden as a highly effective offensive-minded pair, Johnson was able to slide down the depth chart and partner up with veteran David Savard as the team's more defense-oriented pair.
Statistically, Johnson appears to be far more effective in this new role. While plus/minus is not a perfect stat, the fact that Johnson went from a league-worst career minus-126 to a plus-23 in 2016-17, which was tied for No. 16, is a valid indication of that improvement. or a more detailed demonstration of how Johnson's role has changed and its impact, consider the following player usage chart from the Hockey Abstract 2015 Update, prior to the season in which Jones was acquired. Located almost completely by himself among defensemen (noted in italics) in the top-left corner of the chart, Johnson was taking on the team's top opponents (vertical axis), primarily in the defensive zone (horizontal axis), and with the kind of large white circle that represents how the team's shot-based metrics were suffering as a result.
Yes, Johnson carries a hefty cap hit of $4,357,142 this season, but that is the going rate for second-pair defensemen, based on how the market was set this past summer. Just a few months ago, veteran free-agent defensemen such as Chris Mullin Authentic Jersey Brian Dumoulin, Dmitry Kulikov, Karl Alzner, Michael Stone, Brendan Smith, Kris Russell, Dan Girardi, Trevor Daley, Justin Schultz and Dmitry Orlov all signed multiyear deals with an average cap hit of $4.167 million, and arguably none of them would be slotted any higher on a depth chart than Johnson. If a team wants someone like Johnson, then that's the amount of cap space that they will need, no matter who they target.
Where will Johnson land? Columbus's ideal trading partner will have the need for a top-four defenseman and the cap space required, and be the kind of playoff-bound team that needs to act now, rather than wait to sign Johnson in the summer.
As an added complication, the potential trading partner will also need to have the pieces the Blue Jackets require right now, since Columbus is a likely playoff team too. Chances are, the Justin Faulk Youth jersey right enticement would be to offer Columbus some help on the power play. This season, Columbus' power-play percentage of 13.5 percent ranks second-to-last to the Buffalo Sabres' 12.9 percentage.
That's why the most intriguing trading partner may be the Toronto Maple Leafs. They have some pending free agents of their own who can contribute on the power play, such as James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak. According to the data compiled at Corsica Hockey, van Riemsdyk's 5-on-4 scoring rate of 6.04 points per 60 minutes ranks ninth among those to play at least 200 minutes between 2015-16 and 2017-18, and Bozak ranks No. 50 with 4.89. cheap jerseys online wholesale jerseys from china nba jerseys for sale nike nfl jerseys china basketball jerseys for sale

Theo Walcott Jersey

In the end the writing on the wall was spelled out boldly enough for Theo Walcott to recognise the comfort zone was not really that comfortable at all. Perhaps the most surprising thing about the departure of a forward who spent more than a decade at Arsenal, mostly in this strange space where he grew older and signed new contracts while being judged about how far he was – or ever could reach – Logan Brown Jersey on the potential fulfilment scale, is that he uprooted at all. Walcott has in some ways been a perfect symbol of the later Wenger years: flashes of undeniable talent mixed with unreliability, a sense of sticking with the same old familiar tune rather than finding a way to fire up the rhythm.

Walcott always looked like the last person who would want out of Arsenal. It was a good life for him and his family and, as a decent and polite sort, he tended to prefer to play safe rather than agitate. The message this season, however, encouraged him to make a break for it and seek a new challenge. He could not get more than 63 minutes of Premier League football during a period where the team have struggled. Last weekend at Bournemouth, with no Alexis Sánchez, Mesut Özil or Olivier Giroud, the manager picked Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi to support Alexandre Lacazette in attack. Last season Welbeck and Iwobi scored four goals each. Walcott delivered 19. They were trusted to start and he was not. There was not much comfort to be found on that bench.

The market for established, late-20s attackers is the dominant theme of this January transfer window and Walcott’s value to Everton at £20m is interesting. He will turn 29 in a couple of months. He is three months younger than Sánchez and three months older than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Walcott moves at an age where generally players are supposed to be at their peak, fully formed and ready to go. But the intrigue is in whether new surroundings, new expectations and a very different type of voice giving instructions and motivation can inspire something extra, propelling the same old Theo to become new Theo even at a relatively late stage of his career.
The fulfilment of potential will always be the subtext in the Walcott story, the underlying question. That notion was amplified way back, when Sven-Göran Eriksson had a chat with Arsène Wenger and, perhaps influenced by the reputation the Arsenal manager had during that era for identifying and developing outstanding young talent, suddenly selected this untried kid to join the 2006 World Cup ride. Womens Jersey That expectation became a thing, enhanced when Walcott took Thierry Henry’s No 14, a gargantuan shirt to fill for a youngster with pace who spent time being educated on the wing before the anticipated push into the centre-forward position.
It remains weirdly difficult to assess Walcott’s 12 years at Arsenal because of this lingering dilemma between judging what he did well against what might have been better. On the shiny side of the coin he won three FA Cups – a sharp, instinctive finish to open the scoring in the 2015 final at Wembley was one of those high points Jaromir Jagr Authentic Jersey which reignited the idea that a more driven, influential Walcott was ready to break out. He scored more than 100 goals for one of England’s historic clubs. He gathered 47 England caps.
Everton can look at the highlights reel and wonder if more of the plus points can be harnessed. A breathtaking run to assist a goal for Emmanuel Adebayor in a Champions League game at Anfield still looks thrilling. Then – gulp – you realise that was actually nearly 10 years ago.
Those wonder-moments were like trailers, giving a flavour, a sense of possibility, but it was the difficulty in translating it into a compelling long movie that explains how his Arsenal years will be remembered with a mix of fondness and frustration. Walcott arrived at the club when Wenger had such impressive form for progressing young talent. Joining Arsenal then seemed a natural fit for a young player who wanted to learn and improve. Recent distinguished examples included Cesc Fàbregas, Robin van Persie, Gaël Clichy and Kolo Touré.
Walcott in some ways became emblematic of the group that did not flourish as much as everybody hoped. The current team has a bunch who are treading developmental water, maybe even swimming against the tide, in that players such as Héctor Alec Burks Jersey Bellerín, Rob Holding and Iwobi look less assured than they did when they broke into the first team. wholesale jerseys cheap wholesale jerseys cheap wholesale jerseys from china cheap mlb jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap baseball jerseys wholesale wholesale jerseys paypal wholesale nhl jerseys

The deal: The Chargers have a tenant-lease agreement with Rams

owner Stan Kroenke's development group that lowers the team's risk because they do not have to borrow money for construction of the $2.6 billion project, and are not on the hook for any cost overruns. The Rams and Chargers will jointly share revenue such as naming rights, suites, sponsors and advertising. The teams will be on their own to sell season tickets and personal seat licenses (PSLs). The Chargers and Rams will separately sell PSLs, projected to raise $700 to $800 million toward construction Garret Sparks Womens Jersey costs for the new facility. Sales from stadium naming rights and $400 million combined in stadium loans from the NFL's G4 program also will go toward funding of the project.

PSLs on sale soon: The stadium will feature 275 luxury suites -- 125 of which went on sale last August -- more than 16,000 premium seats and almost three million square feet of usable space. Chris Hibbs, chief revenue officer and general manager for this project, said they're close to offering PSL sales, and that each team will have their own program. Season-ticket holders for both teams will have the first right to buy PSLs. Hibbs said the only thing available right now for purchase are joint suites for both teams. Fans cannot buy an individual suite for their team. At some point they might sell individual suites for a particular team, but they are not available for purchase as it stands now. Hibbs said some suites sales include other events outside of football, while others give customers the rights to buy into them. You can learn more about that here.
The project: The stadium project includes four main components, with a translucent, single-pane roof that covers three of the four elements involved in the project. The stadium will have a seating capacity of 70,000, expandable up to 100,000 for special events, including Super Bowls. Inside, the stadium will prominently feature the Oculus -- a circular, two-sided video board that's 162,000 square feet. A 6,000-seat performance venue will open in 2020 at the same time as the stadium. The multi-purpose venue will be used for shows, concerts and events. In between the stadium and performance venue is Champions Plaza, an outdoor venue that can be used in conjunction with the stadium and the performance venue.
The big dig: Construction workers had to dig a 100-feet deep hole in the ground -- the equivalent of a 10-story building -- to house the stadium because of the projects' proximity to Los Angeles International Airport, so that it doesn't interfere with plane radar. About 6.1 million cubic yards of dirt was moved from the spot where the stadium was built. All of that dirt has been repurposed and kept on site. ello down there: The stadium is two miles from LAX. About 40 million people look down on the Inglewood Stadium site yearly as the fly over it.
Big events on the horizon: Along with serving as the home field for the Rams and Chargers, the new Inglewood Stadium will be used for year-round events for sports and entertainment and will host Super Bowl LVI in February 2022, the College Football Playoff National Championship game in 2023 and the 2028 Opening & Closing Ceremonies of Olympic Games.
Jenkins is simultaneously preparing for one of the biggest games of his career -- Sunday's NFC Championship matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. As a head of the NFL Players Coalition, he helped organize the efforts of some 50 men around the league and was key in forging a partnership with the NFL to effect social justice change, resulting in a commitment of nearly $100 million for causes considered important to African-American communities.
He made trips to Harrisburg to push for criminal justice reform legislation, handed out Christmas gifts to families in need in North Philly, and opened a brick-and-mortar designer menswear store, all while guiding one of the top defenses in football. It would be stranger at this point if Jenkins did not to have something huge going on outside of football.
Named to his second Pro Bowl in 2017, Jenkins posted a team-high 119 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss, to go with two interceptions, 12 passes defensed and a sack, leading a group that finished fourth in yards (306.5) and points (18.4) per game. Ill-advised Jimmy G trade will haunt Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- At 4:13 p.m. Thursday, the New England Patriots tweeted news that jolted their loyal worshipers more than a double shot of espresso in their Dunkin' Donuts coffee:Quarterback Tom Brady, with an ailing right hand, didn't participate in practice.Three days before the AFC Championship Game, mind you.

The Patriots have a mini-crisis, and they'll have no one to blame but themselves if this turns into the worst-case scenario -- if Brady struggles and the defending Super Bowl champions lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. If that's how it plays out, the Patriots will be subjected to an offseason of massive Womens Tommylee Lewis Jersey criticism, and it would be justified because they sold off the NFL's best insurance policy -- Jimmy Garoppolo -- for 50 cents on the dollar.
Coach Bill Belichick might be the smartest football guy in the history of the sport, but he erred in trading Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers for a second-round pick. Forget about the long-term implications; let's focus on the now.In Super Bowl-or-bust mode, always the case in these parts, Belichick decided to go Brady or bust by shipping out Garoppolo in a highly controversial trade. Brady has been terrific this season -- he probably will be named the league's MVP for the third time in his illustrious career -- but he's 40 years old and football is a contact sport.
Guys get hurt, and Brady injured his famous right hand while colliding with a teammate in practice on Wednesday. There's no way he will sit out Sunday, but if he suddenly starts throwing like Blake Bortles, everyone will know he's not right. Brady's hand will get more TV time than Curt Schilling's right ankle/bloody sock got in the 2004 postseason. What then?
Worse, what if Brady aggravates the injury and can't finish the game?Belichick will have no choice but to turn to Brian Hoyer, whose only postseason experience was a disaster. Starting for the Houston Texans in 2015, he threw four interceptions and passed for 136 yards in a 30-0 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
That would be the Patriots' worst nightmare, and it would shine a harsh light on the Garoppolo trade and the story behind it. ESPN the Magazine recently reported that Belichick wasn't on board with it, and that he was "furious and demoralized" when the deal went down at the trading deadline. The story reported that owner Robert Kraft, perhaps influenced by Brady, ordered the trade. Kraft, in an interview with The, told a conflicting version, saying Belichick was the driving force behind it.
Someone isn't telling the truth. The Patriots should've kept Garoppolo, who has blossomed into a star, even though it would've meant losing him after the season as a free agent. A third-round compensatory pick in 2019 isn't as good as a second-round pick in 2018, but the risk-reward would've justified the lower compensation. ew England is in the business of winning now, and they left themselves vulnerable. It's ironic, because they've been two steps ahead of the competition for nearly two decades, winning five Super Bowls. This season, they made one move too many, creating their current predicament. On Thursday, players clammed up, refusing to acknowledge Brady's injury. Before the injury report was released, safety Devin McCourty was asked how Brady looked in practice.
"Tom looks excellent every day," he said. "[He's] one of the best-looking people I've ever met." ey can joke about it now. If Brady isn't Brady and the Patriots fall one game short of the Super Bowl, the offseason fallout could get ugly. mong the boys' sales pitches were Baylen's promise to "hold Marshon Lattimore and [other] players' gloves" and Bowen mentioning that he can also "return Womens Clinton Portis Jersey punt and kicks." rees, who turned 39 on Monday, has said in the past that getting to share his NFL career with his kids is one of the reasons why he could see himself playing well into his 40s (he and wife Brittany also have a 3-year-old daughter, Rylen).
Also, unlike other veteran players, Brees continues to keep coming back and playing in the Pro Bowl, finding ways to get new enjoyment out of the experience. Last year he said that he was excited to get the chance to spend time with young quarterbacks like the Dallas Cowboys' Dak Prescott and the Washington Redskins' Kirk Cousins, among others over the years.
"Most of this stadium is going to be digitized," Spanos said. "So we're going to be able to, in simple terms, flip and switch and make it really Chargers oriented. We're not to that point right now, but that's our goal. That's what we're going to do. So when the fans come in, it's going to be blue, white and gold."
With the stadium about 25 percent complete, Spanos was recently joined by a contingent of Chargers brass that included president of football operations John Spanos, chief financial officer Jeanne Bonk and special advisor Jeffrey Pollack to take a look at the project's progress. panos has been on site a handful of times. The stadium remains on time for a scheduled summer 2020 completion.
The project is part of a 300-acre, mixed-use development that will include 890,000 square feet of retail and 780,000 square feet of office space, as well as 2,500 modern residences, a 300-room hotel and a 25-acre park developed in phases over time. basketball jerseys cheap wholesale nhl jerseys cheap hockey jerseys mlb jerseys cheap

how the FA made Phil Neville

What an amusing inevitability to learn that Phil Neville is the frontrunner for the job of managing the England women’s side. I very much enjoyed my colleague Louise Taylor’s report into the matter, which stated: “It is understood the 40-year-old’s name was initially suggested to the Football Association in a lighthearted manner by a well-known broadcaster at a drinks reception last month.”

This is my favourite How Job Applications Work story since George Osborne’s friends asked the former chancellor for his advice on their pitches for the Evening Standard editorship. Sorry, guys – he had a look at your proposals, but in the end the opportunity was just too good to pass up. A failed candidate for the Times’s graduate trainee scheme back in the day, he proceeded straight to newspaper editor.
Indeed, the latter tale was my favourite How Job Applications Work story since George’s pal Michael Gove decided to knife their other pal Boris Johnson during the post-referendum Tory leadership contest, justifying it thus: “I compare it to a group of people standing outside a collapsing building, wondering who is going to rescue a child inside. I thought: well, I don’t think I’ve got either the strength or the speed for this, but as I looked around, I thought, God, I’m at least as strong and at least as fast as the others. I’ve got to try to save the child.” To which the response turned out to be: police have arrested a 49-year-old west London man on suspicion of blowing up a building he later claimed to be rescuing a child from.
Anyway, back to the Neville appointment, reportedly almost a done deal. I suppose it’s one form of positive discrimination – the FA has refused to let Neville Doug McDermott Jersey be held back by the fact he has never managed a football team, or by Authentic Albert Pujols Jersey the fact he didn’t apply for the job.
Even so, plenty of people are wondering quite why he seems the best option for an FA supposedly committed to being less brutally self-parodic in 2018. In December, Baroness Sue Campbell – the head of women’s football – was acknowledging a problem with the lack of female applicants for the position: “It’s not about neglect,” she judged, “it’s more that we haven’t proactively gone out and tried to address the big issues. Now we are doing this.”
Alas, it looks like they haven’t quite done it in time not to have to parachute in a man who hasn’t managed before. Still, you have to admire the FA’s belief that the poor optics are worth it, so very soon after its handling of the Eni Aluko and Mark Sampson cases, which secured it that calamitous select committee appearance in October.
Anyone who cares about England football will wish Neville every success but let’s hope the FA devotes serious time to analysing why it has reportedly been rejected by the more qualified candidates it shortlisted. Fear of scrutiny is believed to be the main reason but should not have been insurmountable. If it has turned out to be, as seems the case, then that is a failing on the FA’s part. This is a great job. England are ranked No 1 in Europe and No 3 in the world, and after reaching both the last World Cup and Euro semi-finals will be regarded as having a good chance of winning the World Cup next year.
Furthermore, Sampson’s salary was said to fall between £100,000 and £150,000 a year, which – while a fraction of that paid to a series of underachieving coaches of the men’s side – isn’t too bad for a part-time job. I am sure Neville can see the opportunities of the position (just as I am sure he won’t be on a mere £150,000).
Perhaps the most controversial thing about the process of appointing the England manager, though, is that it is being managed by indestructible FA technical director Dan Ashworth. Inevitably, it is Ashworth who is said to have personally approached Neville.
Can it really be less than three months ago that people were describing Ashworth’s position as untenable, with Dame Heather Rabbatts rightly predicting nothing would change if he stayed in charge? And here we are. To imagine Ashworth’s position as untenable was always to fundamentally misunderstand the nature of British public life. Whole strata of it are full of chaps who have risen without trace and are seemingly unsinkable. They were being satirised by Anthony Powell in the character of Kenneth Widmerpool in 1951, being a recognisable character type even then. cheap nfl jerseys usa cheap nfl jerseys from china nhl jerseys cheap wholesale jerseys nfl
