Most of the top rookies that fantasy players will pursue have the spotlight on them, yet there are a handful of others who have made a jump up draft boards with their exhibition play.

Barkley: He will receive a high volume of touches and will benefit from the presence of a healthy Odell Beckham Jr. and a revamped offensive line. There will be moments where he will look like a rookie, but Barkley will fully emerge as an RB1. His value is further enhanced by his impressive receiving skills, making him a strong bet to catch 50-55 passes. Barkley looks like he will be a double-digit touchdown scorer and should begin a run of fantasy dominance out of the gate.

Royce Freeman, RB Jake Ryan Jersey , Broncos: Based on his preseason performance, it's hard to believe Freeman fell to the third round. Coach Vance Joseph may be saying Freeman will share time with Devonta Booker, but Freeman will be the eventual starter and will soon end any talk about sharing the job. Freeman has home run ability once he gets in the open field and is also a solid receiver that will get 35-40 passes from Case Keenum. He's now in the top 50 range of the draft and has a reasonable chance to hit the 1,000-yard mark should he win the job outright.

Michael Gallup, WR, Cowboys: Tight end Jason Witten retired to the Monday Night Football booth and receiver Dez Bryant was released. Dallas selected Gallup in the third round and has seen him flash signs of becoming an impact receiver in a rookie class that lacks immediately ready wideouts. He's a good play near the end of the draft and will likely start from Week 1.

Kerryon Johnson, RB, Lions: Detroit knew that Johnson had the ability to overtake LeGarrette Blount and Ameer Abdullah as the lead back. What they didn't know was that the former Auburn star was an exceptional pass catcher. Johnson averaged nearly 5 yards per carry in the preseason and will eventually squash the Lions' projected running back by committee. He should be drafted with the expectation of him being the lead back by midseason.

Sony Michel, RB, Patriots: If the Pats are using a first-round pick on a running back, consider him special. Michel has missed much of the preseason with a knee injury but has explosive, game-altering moves that will allow him to become the go-to back on early downs. There is risk in taking Michel in the later rounds http://www.indianapoliscoltsteamonline.com/joe-haeg-jersey , but there's also a good chance he can put up more than 1,000 yards from scrimmage while offering 7-9 touchdowns.

Courtland Sutton, WR, Broncos: Already nicknamed "Megatron Jr." by his teammates, the 6-5, 230-pound Sutton has played worthy of the nickname former Lions receiver Calvin Johnson earned. Sutton's size and leaping ability will make him a nightmare in jump ball situations and while his catches could be limited behind Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, look for Sutton to be a sneaky good WR3/flex with 7-9 touchdown potential.

Rashaad Penny, RB, Seahawks: A broken finger in mid-August slowed down his momentum toward winning the starting job. He will open the season behind Chris Carson and is still expected to play a major role in the Seattle offense. His draft stock is low, which means Penny can evolve into a value pick.

D.J. Moore, WR, Panthers: Opens the season as the fourth receiver on the roster but has the skills to become a sneaky good stash who pays off later in the season.

Sam Darnold, QB, Jets: The third overall pick is a near-lock to start Week 1 and has an underrated receiving corps that will help him develop. His best fantasy days are down the road; however, Darnold will be an intriguing pick in two-quarterback leagues along with being a streaming option when the Jets get a favorable matchup on the schedule.

Calvin Ridley, WR, Falcons: He will start the season as the team's third receiver while nipping at the heels of Mohamed Sanu's starting job. Ridley will need time to develop but in one-year leagues, he should be considered in the back end of drafts.

Mike Gesicki Da'Ron Payne Jersey , TE, Dolphins: Has a lock on the starting job and will become a reliable check down option for quarterback Ryan Tannehill. There is sleeper potential with Gesicki, who could become a red zone-friendly TE2 with the ability to grab 35-40 passes in his first season.

Baker Mayfield, QB, Browns: The first overall pick has looked sharp in the preseason (71 percent completion rate) but coach Hue Jackson is expected to give veteran Tyrod Taylor the starting nod. He's more valuable in a dynasty/keeper league.

Lamar Jackson, QB, Ravens: The 2016 Heisman winner won't see a lot of time, but Baltimore will utilize his athleticism in a variety of packages. A best case is him either getting a handful of starts later in the season or coach John Harbaugh turning him into a 2018 version of former Steelers multi-threat Kordell "Slash" Stewart.

The Marlins came back from an early two-run deficit Saturday to earn a 5-2 win over the Mets and their ace, right-hander Jacob deGrom. The win completed the best month of the season for Miami (34-50), which went 14-14 while winning five of nine series.

“That’s how you climb is continue to win series, continue to win series,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly told reporters Saturday. “Hopefully somewhere in there, you throw an eight- or 10-game winning streak together to really take a chunk out of something.”

The Mets (32-48) are doing the exact opposite. New York went 5-21 in June, during which it lost eight of nine series and split the other. It was the third-worst month in franchise history behind/ahead of only July 1963 (4-25) and August 1982 (5-24).

In the process, the Mets went from five games out of first place and eight games ahead of the Marlins to tie for last, 14 1/2 games out of first. The two teams are tied for the worst record in the NL, though Miami is technically percentage points ahead of New York heading into Sunday.

The Mets are 21-47 since opening 11-1, the best 12-game start in franchise history. Only the Baltimore Orioles have a worse record since Apr. 13.

The Mets have not been in last place in the NL East after July 1 since 2005, when they had a 77-77 record while occupying fifth place on Sept. 24. Matz didn’t factor into the decision last Tuesday, when he gave up three runs over seven innings as the Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-3.

Straily is 1-1 with a 3.04 ERA in five career starts against the Mets. Matz is 2-2 with a 3.67 ERA in five starts against the Marlins.

Jarvis Landry has heard the horror stories. Since being traded by the Miami Dolphins to the Browns in March, he's been schooled on the misery, heartache and pain endured during a 0-16 season in Cleveland.

Landry's sympathetic 鈥?to a point.

"I wasn't part of that," the three-time Pro Bowl receiver said during training camp. "I didn't have nothing to do with what happened here. I can't take that on my back."

Landry was lucky, because anyone who lived through last season in Cleveland bears permanent scars.

However, thanks to an extreme roster overhaul orchestrated by new general manager John Dorsey, who previously revived the Kansas City Chiefs, there's reason to think the Browns will not only be better than a year ago 鈥?they can't do any worse 鈥?but they'll contend in the AFC North.

For real.

"This team is headed in the right direction Ryan Kelly Jersey , for sure," said former Buffalo quarterback Tyrod Taylor, another of Cleveland's talented new additions. "The attitude is right. The energy is right in the locker room. We just have to remain focused throughout the full season and be able to withstand the ups and downs."

There were no ups last season when the Browns joined the 2008 Detroit Lions in ignominy as the only teams to whiff on a 16-game schedule. That calamity came after the Browns went 1-15 in coach Hue Jackson's first season.

Yet despite his 1-31 mark, Jackson survived. Owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam pardoned him and are giving the fourth coach they've had since taking over in 2012, a third season to awaken one of the league's most storied franchises.

Jackson's role is more CEO than coach this season after handing off the offense to former Steelers coordinator Todd Haley, who will call plays and try to get the most out of Taylor, a talented receiving group and three-back rotation featuring the versatile Duke Johnson.

The Browns have spent most of the past 20 years looking for a franchise quarterback, and the team feels they've found one in Baker Mayfield, the Heisman Trophy winner drafted No. 1 overall.

Mayfield, though, will begin the season backing up Taylor, who guided the Bills to the playoffs last season but is being viewed 鈥?at least for now 鈥?by the Browns as a place-holder.

In the meantime, Taylor's work ethic and positive attitude is influencing teammates who are starting to believe the bad days are behind the Browns.

Linebacker Christian Kirksey predicts Cleveland will make the playoffs.

END GAME

Myles Garrett may be on the verge of superstardom. The second-year defensive end missed four games as a rookie with a severely sprained ankle that never got completely healed. He still finished with seven sacks in 11 games, and the former top pick could double that total this season.

Garrett is quick, explosive and strong. And don't be fooled that he's soft-spoken or enjoys writing poems. The dude is nasty.

HOT SEAT

Make no mistake, Jackson needs to win. He's been given a pass because of previous mistakes made by the front office during the Browns' rebuild. Now, Jackson has to show he can develop talent, manage games and produce victories. He's running out of time. The Haslams have been supportive, but their backing could erode quickly if Cleveland doesn't show major improvement in the first few weeks.

FLASHBACK

Supremely talented, sadly troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon is back after missing training camp to work on his health. The former Pro Bowler is out of second chances with the NFL following numerous suspensions, and if the 27-year-old is going to revive his career, it has to start this season.

Gordon's speed stretches defenses, forcing them to respect the Browns' deep passing game and creates openings elsewhere on the field. Gordon can make Landry Anthony Castonzo Jersey , a three-time Pro Bowler, even more dangerous 鈥?and vice versa.

BIG CLEATS TO FILL

Joel Bitonio didn't want to do it, but the Browns slid the standout guard into Joe Thomas' old spot at left tackle during camp. Thomas retired following 10 Pro Bowl seasons, leaving the Browns to address a position they didn't have to worry about for a decade. Bitonio played some tackle at Nevada and while he's not built like the prototypical end blocker, he'll hold his own.

Trouble is, by moving Bitonio the Browns may have weakened two spots. Rookie Austin Corbett has replaced Bitonio at left guard.

HOLD ON

Turnovers were a major reason for the Browns' ruinous season. Not only did they commit a league-high 41 (28 interceptions, 13 fumbles), but Cleveland forced just 13 takeaways (seven INTs, six fumbles), the league's fewest.

In Oakland Evan Engram Jersey , Hackenberg will be competing for a backup spot behind Derek Carr. Perhaps Gruden can help him develop into a starter some day. That day is likely a long way away, but at least he has a coach who likes his potential now that he’s a Raider. With the Jets, the Hackenberg experiment was doomed to failure.

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton says the club has waived receiver Brandon Coleman and offensive lineman John Fullington.

Both players have been sidelined recently with injuries.

Coleman started training camp on the team's physically unable to perform list. Payton Latavius Murray Jersey , who discussed the moves after a practice at Tulane on Sunday night, says the receiver has hip and neck injuries that both will take longer to rehabilitate than initially anticipated.

Payton says he anticipates that Coleman will return to the Saints' active roster again. The coach did not specify when, but it is unlikely to be this season because Coleman will wind up on injured reserve unless he's claimed by another club.

Fullington has missed several recent practices with an undisclosed injury. But Payton says the lineman is slated to visit a physician who specializes in sports hernia and groin area repairs.

The extension means the big left tackle will likely be protecting Russell Wilson's blindside for the rest of Brown's career. He'll turn 33 next month and has spoken repeatedly of wanting Seattle to be the final stop of his career.

Brown's current deal was set to expire after this season, part of the reason he was a holdout from the Houston Texans until Week 8 of last season before being traded to Seattle. Brown said it became clear soon after arriving in Seattle the intensions were to make sure this was his last stop. Those indications were part of why Brown was committed to being part of Seattle's offseason program.

Manager Dave Roberts said Buehler would likely throw a simulated game next week in Oklahoma City.

Buehler is 4-2 with a 3.45 ERA with the Dodgers this season. He’s limited the opposition to a .228 average while striking out 59 and walking 13 in 11 games.

The Dodgers are closely monitoring Buehler’s workload, although they have not announced a limit for him.

He tossed just five innings in 2016 after Tommy John surgery. Last year, he pitched 98 innings. He’s worked 73 1-3 innings so far this season.

Buehler has racked up travel miles this season, having been optioned to Oklahoma City twice previously and to Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. He’s also been on the disabled list with a microfracture to his rib.

No matter how big of a boom Carlson delivers on the ball JK Scott Jersey , though, what matters the most is how accurate he can be from those less-impressive and more-critical distances. The shorter kicks that the Vikings have seen missed too many times over the past five years.

”I’m a 6-foot-5 kicker, which is pretty rare. That does help having those long levers to hopefully get a couple touchbacks and some longer kicks here and there,” Carlson said. ”But at the end of the day it’s the kicks inside of 50 that really are going to make or break a season or make or break you.”

The Vikings re-signed Forbath in March. In 25 games since he replaced the struggling Blair Walsh, Forbath has missed eight extra points. He also pulled a couple of 39-yard field goals wide in 2017. Though he came through down the stretch with several important makes, including three field goals in the playoff game win over New Orleans, Forbath clearly didn’t gain the full trust of the coaching staff and front office.

”The whole objective right now at this point is to create the most competitive 90-man roster that you can, regardless of position,” general manager Rick Spielman said last weekend after making Carlson the 167th overall selection.

When the Vikings drafted Walsh in the sixth round in 2012, they released reliable incumbent Ryan Longwell the day after the rookie minicamp was complete. The same scenario played out in 2013 with punter Jeff Locke Ramon Humber Jersey , a fifth-round pick, and his outspoken predecessor, Chris Kluwe. For now, the Vikings have said they’ll keep the competition open. Still, a fifth-rounder is a high price for a specialist.

Lawyers representing former NFL players estimated Wednesday that payouts from the concussion settlement with the league will top $1.4 billion Weston Richburg Jersey , a $400 million jump because of thousands more players filing claims.

The number of players who filed to be a part of the settlement is outpacing all previous estimates and could keep growing, the lawyers said in a federal court filing based on estimates from an actuary. The estimate accounts for players who have filed claims and those who have officially given notice that they intend to file claims.

The actuary said participation rates are 21 percent higher than estimated when the settlement was reached. As of July 16, 499 claims totaling more than $485 million had been approved, according to the filing.

The massive increase in estimated payout came the same day a judge denied a request from the league to appoint a special investigator to look into what the league said are extensive fraudulent claims against the settlement fund.

Judge Anita Brody wrote in her federal court ruling that the league’s attorneys had demonstrated that there is ”sufficient evidence of probable fraud to warrant serious concern.” But Brody said a special master and a claims administrator have effectively ferreted out those claims for now.

”The audit process is working effectively,” Brody wrote in her deferral ruling, saying if the claims administrator or special master notify the court an investigator is needed, ”the Court will rule on the motion at that time.”

The league requested an investigator and cited in its May argument an independent study it said found more than 400 claims recommended for denial based on evidence of fraud by attorneys, doctors and former players attempting to cheat the program. The league has said those attempts to scam the $1 billion settlement fund have slowed down the awarding of valid claims.

The settlement, which took effect January 2017 John Matuszak Jersey , resolved thousands of lawsuits that accused the NFL of hiding what it knew about the risks of repeated concussions.

It covers retired players who develop Lou Gehrig’s disease, dementia or other neurological problems believed to be caused by concussions suffered during their pro careers, with awards as high as $5 million for the most serious cases.

Attorneys for the league had cited practices such as doctors seeing players for evaluation not in clinical settings, but in hotel rooms, law offices or other places. They also cited a doctor who said she spent seven to 12 hours evaluating each patient, but approved sometimes as many as eight patients a day.

A lawyer for several plaintiffs said Wednesday that he and others representing the players supported Brody’s decision.

”Since the NFL filed its motion more than three months ago, the claims process has continued to accelerate and the current audit process is working effectively,” said Chris Seeger, co-lead counsel for the retired players. ”We will not allow a small number of potentially fraudulent claims to be used as an excuse by the NFL to deny payment to legitimately injured former players.”

In their May arguments Ricardo Allen Jersey , Seeger and other attorneys noted that the instances of fraudulent claims would be cut dramatically after the most recent rules for claims went into effect, including a list of approved physicians to determine eligibility.

Brody warned in her ruling that she expects the process to ensure valid claims are promptly paid.
