Pep Guardiola’s full-back plan

According to some people, any club who can afford to spend £50m on a full-back should be champions. I have lost count of the amount of times this line has been used as a reason why Manchester City deservedly won the Premier League title, which has effectively been theirs since December. The references to the purchases of Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy are demeaning – implying the least important http://www.footballcardinalsofficial.com/Authentic-Phil-Dawson-Jersey position on the pitch in today’s game is full-back.

The more discerning football supporter would have watched the Champions League semi-finals and appreciated http://www.authenticmapleleafsshops.com/authentic-24-kasperi-kapanen-jersey.html both matches were determined by the positioning and performances of the players in a position which I believe is the least-promoted and most undervalued in the sport.
Take Liverpool’s attacking exploits against Roma on Tuesday, when the Italian side set up without full-backs in a back three so Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané were able to run riot behind a defence who were either three against three in transitional play or attempting to defend in a block and struggling to contain the penetrating runs of Liverpool’s wide men.
It meant Salah and Mané were able to operate in space and run at pace against taller, less agile centre-halves, which has been their speciality in an outstanding run in the competition. Both of Roma’s late away goals were scored after Salah was withdrawn. By then Roma had reverted to a back four with full-backs who were in much better starting positions to deal with Liverpool’s direct play from wide areas. This gave them a platform to attack for the first time and the momentum swung in their favour in the final 15 minutes.
Then there was Bayern Munich against Real Madrid on Wednesday, and again players in the defensive positions were key to the outcome. The goal by Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich was a perfect example of the full-back’s role in the modern game – having the stamina and quality to run 80 yards to score, utilising the space vacated by, yes, you guessed it, Marcelo, who had not recovered to his defensive left-back position quickly enough. And then Marcelo atoned for his defensive error by scoring a technically fantastic equaliser at a time when Bayern looked capable of Womens Nikita Kucherov Jersey adding to their lead. His tactical position to pick up the loose ball was absolutely perfect.
Factor in that Lucas Vázquez became Real’s most important player in the final 30 minutes – dealing with Franck Ribéry’s outstanding play from the left wing Womens Peter Budaj Jersey – and you have an excellent example of how important attacking and defensive full-back play is to a team’s performance and the result. This opens the debate that we Steven Souza Jersey need to see the bigger picture in a more interconnected way, rather than a sport where any one position is more important or valuable in determining the result of a match.
Throughout my career the significance of excellent full-backs to the functionality of a team, especially at the highest level, has been undervalued in comparison with other areas of the pitch. We always hear about the importance of “the spine of the team” or the “need for a goalscorer”, which is understandable, but is there another position where a player needs to have long-distance stamina, explosive power in one-v-one situations, sound defensive and tactical awareness, and also to be technically proficient enough to provide decent service to attacking colleagues with crosses and assists?
A major component of Manchester City’s dominance this season has been Pep Guardiola’s positional use of his full-backs in the half-space in order to overload the middle of the pitch and overwhelm teams both in possession and in transition. Without the outstanding play of Kyle Walker and the development of Fabian Delph on a technical and tactical level, there is no way City would be the force they are. If Guardiola did not value the importance of the position, moreover, he would not set his team up in the way that he does, spend the money he has on full-backs, and set such high physical, technical and tactical demands for them.

As general manager Brandon Beane said in his

pre-draft news conference, it is the job of a GM to find a franchise quarterback -- and the Bills hope they have in Allen. He is the highest-selected quarterback in franchise history, surpassing Jim Kelly, who was taken as No. 14 in 1983. Allen is a project who likely will compete with AJ McCarron http://www.officialbengalsfootballstore.com/YOUTH+RYAN+HEWITT+JERSEY for the starting job http://www.pacersprostore.com/WOMENS-JOE-YOUNG-JERSEY.html in training camp.

Biggest question: The Bills were patient and waited for Allen to slide to No. 7 when he was projected in some cases to be drafted higher, and they kept their No. 22 overall pick in their trade with Tampa Bay. But with Josh Rosen still on the board, picking Allen – considered much more of a wild card -- will be a move that could decide Beane’s tenure as GM. -- Mike Rodak
Why they did it: Smith is the perfect pick for Chicago. The Bears need help at inside linebacker with the offseason departure of veteran Jerrell Freeman, and Danny Trevathan -- while a solid player when healthy -- missed 11 games over the past two seasons. Smith is the best linebacker in the draft class. He possesses tremendous sideline-to-sideline speed, can run with tight ends, is a big hitter and is a leader inside the locker room. Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who coached Patrick Willis in San Francisco, has to be thrilled to add such an impact player.
Biggest question: Some have questioned Smith’s size (6-foot-1 and 236 pounds at the NFL combine), but both Willis and Trevathan played http://www.chargersofficialauthenticstore.com/Nigel-Harris-Jersey at 6-foot-1 and 240 pounds. Smith is talented enough to fit in any defense. The only question -- as with many of Ryan Pace’s draft picks -- is health. The last Georgia player the Bears took in the top 10, OLB Leonard Floyd, has battled injuries throughout his short NFL career. Smith did suffer a shoulder injury in college. -- Jeff Dickerson
Why they did it: This pick is as much about 2019 and beyond as it is about the immediate future. Right tackle Trent Brown is Josh Bellamy Youth jersey coming off a shoulder injury and will be a free agent after the 2018 season, and left tackle Joe Staley will be 34 in August. Protecting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is a priority, and the Niners landed the tackle they believe is the best in this draft. McGlinchey also could contribute at guard right away if Brown doesn’t return to full strength or is traded.
Biggest question: Can McGlinchey succeed as a left tackle? Some evaluators believe he’s best suited on the right side because he’s not a dominant athlete. But it’s hard to imagine the Niners would have selected him here if they didn’t envision him eventually replacing Staley on the left side. Coach Kyle Shanahan’s system will undoubtedly put him to the test. -- Nick Wagoner
Why they did it: The Cardinals needed their quarterback of the future -- plain and simple. There are too many questions surrounding Sam Bradford’s health, and Mike Glennon isn’t the franchise’s long-term answer. As the first round unfolded, Arizona knew it needed to move up, and that’s what it did -- trading its first-round selection, one of its third-round picks and its fifth-round pick to the Oakland Raiders for the 10th overall pick -- thus landing a young quarterback who can be the long-term solution.
Biggest question: Will Rosen, who is known to be outspoken and arrogant, be able to be patient and wait for an opportunity to start? And once he gets his chance to start, how good can he be? -- Josh Weinfuss Why they did it: The Dolphins desperately needed help in pass Authentic Brandan Wright Jersey defense, especially against tight ends. No team allowed more receptions by tight ends than the Dolphins did last season (94), and Fitzpatrick can only help in the effort toward improving that stat.
Biggest question: The Dolphins allowed themselves to be passed over for UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen, who went one spot ahead to the Arizona Cardinals. How will that decision look in a couple of years if Ryan Tannehill can't re-establish himself as the Dolphins' starter? -- Kevin Seifert Why they did it: The Bucs had just 22 sacks last season, dead last in the NFL. Vea is a total monster at 6-foot-4 and 347 pounds; he can easily take on double-teams and plow his way into the backfield. Authentic Phoenix Suns Jersey Pair him with six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and suddenly a Bucs defense that allowed a league-high 6 yards per play and 378 yards per game last season -- both the most in the league -- has become a lot better.
Biggest question: This was not a need pick but a best available pick, because the Bucs invested heavily already this offseason by signing defensive tackles Beau Allen and Mitch Unrein, and they traded for defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul. Vea had 9.5 sacks in three seasons. The real question now is when will the Bucs address a secondary that surrendered 256 yards per game over the past two years, especially when they had their shot at Florida State safety Derwin James, who has drawn comparisons to Eric Berry and Sean Taylor. -- Jenna Laine

Wenger has said he will play

Wenger has said he will play
Arsène Wenger believes it would be “even better” for Arsenal if they appoint a former player to succeed him as manager at the end of the season. He also provided the clearest indication yet that he did not want to step down, by revealing the timing of the decision was not down to him.

Wenger was in relaxed mood before Thursday night’s Europa League semi-final first leg at home against Atlético Madrid – a tie he feels he has to win in order to avoid an anti-climatic conclusion to his near 22-year tenure.
It promises to be an intriguing contest in which Wenger is set to start with David Ospina in goal; a surprising move, given the manager played Petr Cech in both http://www.officialauthenticspackers.com/Ladarius-Gunter-Jersey.html legs of the quarter-final against CSKA Moscow.
But, perhaps inevitably, the http://www.officiallaramsauthentic.com/Connor-Barwin-Jersey.html focus remained on the fallout from the announcement last Friday that Wenger was set to leave his post and the discussion as to the identity of his successor.
The favourite to take over is Luis Enrique, the former Barcelona manager whose credentials are being pushed by Raul Sanllehi, Arsenal’s new head of football relations. Sanllehi worked with Enrique at Barcelona and Wenger said he had a “high opinion” of him. But the merits of the former Arsenal captains Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta have also been advanced.
Vieira, the manager of New York City, said on Wednesday that he was flattered to have been linked. “It’s not something which will stop me doing what I am doing at the moment,” he said. “I don’t want this to be perceived that I want to go because I don’t want to leave. But if the question is as simple as: ‘Are you ready to manage any teams in Europe?’ then I would say: ‘Yes. I am ready.’”
Wenger has said he will play no part in the recruitment of the new manager but when asked about Vieira and Arteta – the latter is a coach at Manchester City – it was interesting to hear the 68-year-old endorse the notion of a former player, even if they might be less heralded in managerial terms. Arsenal, famously, made the bold move to appoint him in 1996, when ‘Arsène Who?’ was the question on many people’s lips.
“The need is to make the right decision, even if you have to be bold,” Wenger said. “Is it former people that worked here? That is even better. But there are many players who had qualities. Some of them are in the job. I don’t influence that choice but I will stand behind the decision.”
Sign up for The Fiver, our daily football email. When Wenger and the club made the announcement that they would go their separate ways, the understanding was he had jumped before he was pushed. The club’s hierarchy had become increasingly worried about the team’s poor Premier League performance and the Authentic Tyus Jones Jersey chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, offered a telling line last Friday evening. “There’s been a conversation, Arsène has made his decision and now that process [regarding a successor] begins,” Gazidis said.
Wenger was asked on Wednesday why he was quitting when he had another year to run on his contract. “The timing was not really my decision,” he replied. Arsenal later argued that Wenger’s comment related to the release of the announcement rather than the decision. “After reaching agreement Calvin Munson Jersey about my departure, I was happy for the club to decide when to announce,” Wenger later said in a statement. “I wish to make it clear the timing of the announcement was right.”

Pros and cons for every 2018 NFL first-round draft pick

Why they did it: The Browns needed to use this pick on a quarterback, and the one they decided fits best is Mayfield. He’s small (6 feet, 5/8 inches), but he’s competitive and accurate. He plays with swagger, perhaps to the extreme, but he also completed 69.8 percent of his passes during his final season. He left Oklahoma as the Big 12 all-time leader in yards per attempt and consecutive games with a touchdown pass. He is the guy general manager John Dorsey and the Browns are committing their future to.

Biggest question: Mayfield bristles at comparisons to Johnny Manziel, and he and Manziel are different players on the field. But like Manziel, Mayfield is not ideal NFL quarterback size, and he has had off-field issues. The Browns must love his ability, because they have shrugged off an arrest and actions on the field that some teams would not accept. Teams generally don’t like risks with the first overall pick; this pick involves a fair amount of risk. -- Pat McManamon
Why they did it: The Giants were in love with Barkley. He was the top prospect on their draft board from the get-go. He fills a major need, as they haven’t had a Pro Bowl-caliber running back since Tiki Barber. The Giants also aren’t as concerned about their future at quarterback as everybody else. They feel Eli Manning has some “years” left and Davis Webb has potential.
Biggest question: Is it worth taking a running back with the Dexter McCoil Womens Jersey No. 2 overall http://www.stlouisbluesofficialonline.com/Adidas-Patrik-Berglund-Jersey pick? This is more about positional value than uncertainty with Barkley, who is a pristine prospect with impressive skills. He is 233 pounds, runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds, has tremendous balance and catches the ball well out of the backfield. But Barkley instantly becomes among the highest-paid players at his position and needs to perform at a Pro Bowl-level immediately to be worth the investment. This also happens to be an extremely deep position in this year’s draft; the Giants could have taken Authentic John Randle Jersey a quality running back in the second or third round. -- Jordan Raanan
Why they did it: After decades of draft misses and veteran Band-Aids, it was time once again to make a bold move to end the maddening pattern of quarterback mediocrity. When Darnold unexpectedly fell to them at No. 3, the Jets pounced on the most complete quarterback prospect in the draft. His innate skill as a passer, combined with his mobility, provides hope Kyle Fuller Womens Jersey for an offense that hasn’t cracked the top 10 in yards since Brett Favre’s one-year rental in 2008.
Biggest question: Are they getting the 2016 Darnold or the 2017 Darnold? In the span of a year, he went from The Next Great Quarterback to a turnover machine. He has some bad habits that need to be addressed, and that will take time, raising questions about how long it’ll take to get him ready to play. His arrival means the end of the Christian Hackenberg era, which never started. Hackenberg and Bryce Petty are likely goners, with incumbent Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater set to compete for the starting job. It could be a redshirt year for Darnold. -- Rich Cimini
Why they did it: This pick screams need over best player available, as the Browns have significant need at corner. Ward had better be good, because in selecting him, the Browns passed up on Minkah Fitzpatrick of Alabama and defensive end Bradley Chubb of NC State, both considered among the draft’s premier players. Ward was considered a good player, but the value of his selection at fourth overall will be questioned.
Biggest question: Like first overall pick Baker Mayfield, it’s size. He’s 5-foot-11 and 183 pounds, which is not a big frame for the position and the press coverage he’ll be asked to play. In bypassing Fitzpatrick and Chubb, though, the Browns have placed a lot of attention and pressure on Ward, who will have to live up to his selection at a spot few expected http://www.officialcardinalsfootballauthentic.com/Jermaine-Gresham-Jersey.html him to go. -- Pat McManamon
Why they did it: Are you kidding? Chubb is the best edge player on the board, and the Broncos now have a potential walk-in starter to put into a pass rush that would include Von Miller, Shane Ray and Derek Wolfe. Chubb had 26 tackles for loss last past season, and he is a high-effort player who should transition quickly to the NFL. Biggest question: There are few riddles about Chubb’s game, but the Broncos will have to fit him into their 3-4 scheme. Chubb, with a 4.65 40-yard dash, doesn’t have the elite speed at outside linebacker and is not as big as some defensive ends. But this is a proficient pass-rusher who puts the Broncos' D back in the fast lane. -- Jeff Legwold
Why they did it: Andrew Luck. The Colts have spent the first six years of Luck’s NFL career trying to put an offensive line around their franchise quarterback. Luck has missed 28 games over the past three seasons because of injuries; he has been sacked 156 times in his career. The Colts gave up an NFL-high 56 sacks last season. Now the foundation of the offensive line is starting to come together. Nelson will join an offensive line that features left tackle Anthony Castonzo and center Ryan Kelly. wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys china cheap nfl jerseys wholesale nfl jerseys wholesale nfl jerseys

Manchester United remind Arsenal

Arsenal have only three away games left in the Premier League this season but happily there is still time for Arsène Wenger to return to Manchester United, the scene of many of the highs and lows in his extraordinary career.

One suspects the image that will surface most often this weekend is the iconic one of Wenger banished to the stands in 2009, arms outstretched at the pettiness of it all after being told by match officials that kicking a water bottle in frustration was far too grievous an offence to be allowed to remain on the sidelines.
There are other, happier memories. A win at Old Trafford put Wenger on the way Authentic Brandon Williams Jersey to his first Double, a single Marc Overmars goal in March 1998 cutting Manchester United’s lead at the top of the table to six points – some Manchester bookmakers had already paid out on bets on Alex Ferguson’s team retaining the title – as Arsenal entered a 10-game winning sequence that would see them crowned champions by a single point.
Slender as that margin appeared at the time, Arsenal’s tremendous run-in gave an early indication of the consistency of which they would prove capable under Wenger, as well as usefully preventing United winning six titles in a row to draw unflattering comparisons with the Scottish league.
Later there would be the Battle of Old Trafford and then the Battle of the Buffet as Arsenal grew into their role as United’s chief challengers in the early noughties, even if another few years brought the infamous 8-2 defeat that confirmed by 2011 they had rather lost their way.
More than anything, though, more than the prospect even of a last touchline grimace with José Mourinho or a cheery hello from Alexis Sánchez, Arsenal are visiting a stadium that stands as an enormous monument to what is at stake when the time comes to replace the sort of transformative manager who has given years of service to the task of successfully reinventing a club.
No one could dispute that Wenger is up http://www.officialwarriorsteamshop.com/Authentic-David-West-Jersey there with the very best in that regard. While some might quibble about the lack of a European Cup, all the deserved testimonials have stressed the fact that this is a man who altered English football, not only the club of which he was in charge.
There is no need to run through Wenger’s achievements and innovations here when they have been all over the news for the past few days. Only the very best managers make themselves unsackable, and in the years of gradual Arsenal decline, that became part of a unique problem.
Ferguson before him had assumed such a position of strength and control at his club that he was able to choose http://www.footballramsofficials.com/rams+rob+havenstein+jersey his own retirement date, yet crucially United kept winning. Even with comparatively ordinary sides in unremarkable seasons, even with the emergence of Chelsea and Manchester City as rivals with deep pockets, Ferguson averaged a title every other season or better right until the end. That is what big clubs want and need. Wenger was unable to produce it for Arsenal after the http://www.footballcowboysjerseys.com/orlando-scandrick-jersey-for-sale-c-31.html dizzy heights of the first decade and, as he himself admitted, around the time that Mourinho was labelling him a specialist in failure: “You cannot pretend you are a big club.”
That, nevertheless, is what Arsenal seem to have been doing these last dozen or so years. There were mitigating circumstances, the Womens Dion Waiters Jersey move to Womens Jimmy Graham Jersey a new ground being one of them and the arrival of petro-dollars in the English game another, though it is hard to sell yourself as the biggest of clubs when you make do with Champions League qualification income and the occasional FA Cup.

The Olympic 800m champion

The Olympic 800m champion
The Olympic 800m champion Caster Semenya could run up to seven seconds slower under new rules requiring her to lower her natural testosterone levels to race internationally, a prominent sports http://www.authenticnikeseahawkshop.com/12th-fan-jersey-for-sale-c-44.html scientist has predicted.

Under rules due to be announced on Thursday morning by the IAAF, the world athletics governing body, a separate female classification for an athlete with differences of sexual development (or DSDs) will be introduced. Such athletes, including Semenya, will have to reduce and then maintain their testosterone levels to no greater than 5nmol/L by 1 November if they want to compete in events ranging from 400 metres to a mile.

The International Association of Athletics Federations believes its new rules will “preserve fair and meaningful competition in the Oscar Lindberg Jersey female classification” because women Tre Boston Youth jersey athletes with high http://www.minnesotawildofficialonline.com/Adidas-Kyle-Quincey-Jersey testosterone have an advantage of up to 9% over women with normal levels of testosterone.
The move, which is sure to divide opinion, http://www.footballcowboysjerseys.com/brice-butler-jersey-for-sale-c-47.html was unanimously approved by the IAAF council last month. According to the world-renowned sports scientist Ross Tucker, the effect will be significant on athletes such as Semenya. “If this Womens Eddie Murray Jersey policy passes, then I would predict that Semenya will be five to seven seconds slower over 800 metres,” he wrote.
“The other really interesting thing is that, guided by the new IOC transgender policy that lowers the upper limit for testosterone to 5nmol/L, the IAAF are setting their limit at 5nmol/L. It used to be 10. That will slow the times of these athletes down even more than it did in the past.”
He told the Guardian: “History suggests Semenya will lose about four seconds to five seconds. Because in 2013 and 2014, when the IAAF were diligent about ensuring her compliance with the upper limit at that time (10nM), she was running 2:00. I don’t think she even qualified for the Commonwealth Games. Now, at 5nM, that effect will be even larger, I suspect. She will go from a 1:54 to 2:01-2:03, is my http://www.falconsauthenticofficialstore.com/adrian-clayborn-jersey_c-502.html estimate.”
Semenya burst on to the scene in 2009 when she won the world 800m title but was then required to take testosterone-suppressing medicine by the IAAF in order to compete. However, in July 2015 the court of arbitration for sport reversed that rule when it examined the Dutee Chand case – allowing inter-sex athletes to compete without taking testosterone-suppressing medication.
The decisive factor for the Cas panel in 2015 was whether testosterone above the 10nmol/L threshold set by the IAAF gave female athletes a competitive advantage over their fellow competitors. However research by the IAAF since then shows that in certain events testosterone does make an enormous difference. An IAAF report notes that “most females have low levels Carlos Ruiz Youth jersey of testosterone circulating naturally in their bodies (0.12 to 1.79 nmol/L in blood); while after puberty the normal male range is much higher (7.7 – 29.4 nmol/L). Absent a DSD or a tumour, no female would have serum levels of testosterone approaching 5 nmol/L, but individuals with DSDs can have very high levels of natural testosterone, extending into and even beyond the normal male range.”
The IAAF also makes it clear that science is on its side. In its report it writes: “There is a broad medical and scientific consensus that if these individuals are sensitive to androgens (ie, they have properly-functioning androgen receptors), such very high levels of natural testosterone .

Le'Veon Bell will end up resetting the running

back market next offseason, but it probably would take an MVP-caliber season for the Steelers star to get something in excess of $15 million per year. That's what Mike Glennon got from the Bears in free agency last offseason. No veteran starting quarterback on a multiyear deal will have a lower average annual salary than Bell, and he might be the only running back in football making more than $8 million per season.

Enter Barkley. The draft's second overall pick is locked into a four-year deal for something in the range of $32 million this offseason, all of which is fully guaranteed at signing. Before taking an NFL snap, Barkley would have more guaranteed money than any other running back in the NFL. He'd be tied with McCoy for the largest annual average salary for any running back on a multiyear deal. His four-year cash -- the Womens Michael Roberts Jersey money he would be in line Womens Brandon Davidson Jersey to pocket over the next four seasons -- would be third in the league behind that of McCoy and Devonta Freeman.

Let's http://www.nflbillsofficialauthentic.com/Nike-Charles-Clay-Jersey.html run the same table for Barkley that we ran for Wentz and assume a similarly favorable outcome. Barkley's $32 million is guaranteed, and former NFL executive Joe Banner projects that the running back would be in line to make about $13 million for his fifth-year option in 2022. Let's assume that Barkley plays at a Pro Bowl-level for each of the five years of his rookie deal without getting injured. Let's also assume that the market value of top-tier running backs will rise over the next five years by $1 million per season, despite the fact that their price tag has come down over the past five seasons, as Warren Sharp pointed out.
As a player entering the league as one of the highest-paid players at his position, even a very rosy outcome for Barkley has him essentially living up to Womens Brenden Dillon Jersey his contract without providing any excess value: The numbers above are obviously estimates, but you get the idea. Because Barkley is entering the league as one of the highest-paid backs in football, it's impossible for him to deliver anywhere near the sort of marginal value that
would come from a rookie quarterback. The same would be true for a defensive end such as Chubb and would even qualify for a guard such as Nelson, given that top-tier guards now comfortably make more than similarly pedigreed running backs. That's without http://www.authenticnuggetstore.com/Dikembe_Mutombo_Jersey even considering that running backs get injured more frequently than players at any other position.
While the NFL has decided that Pro Bowl-caliber running backs are worth about only $8 million or so in this market, it doesn't necessarily follow that those backs should be worth that little. It's at least theoretically possible that the NFL could be underestimating how much running backs are worth to an offense and systematically underpaying guys such as McCoy and Freeman. If that were true, Barkley would be more of a bargain than his status within the running back salary structure as a potential second overall pick suggests.
While Gettleman has said that the league's devaluation of running backs is "comical," the problem is that there isn't much evidence suggesting that the NFL doesn't value running backs well. The market correction for halfbacks over the past 15 years is borne out by their shorter career spans and the success that teams such as the Patriots have had without committing to a franchise-caliber running back on a long-term contract. Of the past 10 Super Bowl winners, only two -- the Ravens with Ray Rice and the Seahawks with Marshawn Lynch -- were built around backs on top-tier multiyear contracts. The Saints had former second overall pick Reggie Bush in a rotation at halfback, but most of these teams were built around players on rookie deals or backs with middle-class contracts.
Furthermore, teams haven't really suffered when they've lost their star backs. The Cowboys weren't the same without Elliott, but the Jaguars' offense was better while Fournette was sidelined last season. In 2015, offenses around the league lost star backs such as Bell, Lynch and Arian Foster and actually improved.
The majority of big-money deals for running backs in recent years also haven't worked out. Carolina spent years desperately restructuring the deals Marty Hurney gave Stewart and DeAngelo Williams. Chris Johnson failed to make it back to the Pro Bowl after signing his extension. DeMarco Murray's deal in Philadelphia led him to be traded after one season. Even Adrian Peterson's six-year deal (which was restructured along the way) mixed one MVP season with two lost seasons and a third marred by injury. Lynch and McCoy have had the best outcomes among veteran backs since the current CBA was signed. It's possible that the market could have overcorrected and might undervalue backs, but there isn't much evidence of that.
The chances of a quarterback taken with the second overall pick turning into a franchise quarterback would have to be somewhere around 30 percent. The economic upside for a quarterback is clear, but if Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen has only a 30 percent shot of turning into the next Wentz, then the expected return for the Giants could be closer to $37 million than $125 million, which would http://49ersauthenticofficialstore.com/frank-gore-jersey_c-342.html level the playing field. (The valuation process is more complicated than that, but it works for the purposes of this example

Derby’s Matej Vydra bares teeth to

For most of this match Cardiff looked set to tighten their grip on the Championship’s second automatic promotion spot but by the end Derby fans were crooning merrily about Jason Peters Youth jersey dreaming of a white Christmas.

That was a cheeky reference to the fact this game, originally scheduled for last month, had been postponed due to snow at an unseasonal but very convenient time for Derby, who were suffering from several injuries. Neil Warnock had vented his anger at that postponement, which came as his team hoped to go 10 points clear in second place. Now they are only one point ahead of third-place Fulham, with Aston Villa are also lurking dangerously.

“Well, I can’t blame the weather for the goals we conceded,” said the Cardiff manager sardonically after seeing his team defend with uncharacteristic sloppiness to allow Derby to score three times in the second half.
While casting doubt on Cardiff’s promotion hopes the result breathed new life into Derby’s, as two goals from Cameron Jerome either side of one by Matej Vydra lifted Gary Rowett’s side into the play-off places. At one point this season Derby looked a good bet to go up automatically but the way their challenge had dwindled in recent months led to Rowett suggesting the club is cursed.
“I was just trying to get myself out of the firing line by saying it was a curse,” admitted Rowett after this win. “It’s difficult to put your finger on why it’s happened five seasons in a row but until we can change it and get promoted that’s always going to be levelled at Derby.”
It did not look like changing here when Callum Patterson gave Cardiff Authentic Tyreke Evans Jersey the lead in the 28th minute with a crisp volley after a cross from the left by Joe Bennett. Scott Carson, Derby’s goalkeeper, had barely had a meaningful touch up to that point but Cardiff nearly beat him again two minutes later when Junior Hoilett went close. The visitors might have also gone further ahead before half-time if the referee had blown for a penalty after the ball struck Bradley Johnson’s hand in the box. Cardiff were looking sturdy even if Derby’s pace on the break was a concern. By the hour Rowett had decided it was time for a new approach so cast on Vydra to forage behind Jerome.
Still the home team struggled to produce enough precision to unhinge the well-organised visitors. Gary Madine was guilty of inaccuracy, too, in the 65th minute, as he skewed a shot wide from nine yards after a Cardiff break.
The cost of that miss soon increased. Derby’s equaliser was surprisingly straightforward. After messy defending by the visitors, Richard Keogh sent a header into the box and Jerome held off Sean Morrison before diverting the ball past Etheridge from six yards
Vydra completed the turnaround by lashing into the net from 12 yards after a cut-back by Wisdom. Jerome made sure of the Brian Urlacher Jersey result in the last minute, pestering Morrison into another mistake before shooting past Etheridge. They now face a trip to Aston Villa on http://www.officialcelticsproshop.com/Dennis_Johnson_Jersey Saturday and their final game is at home to Barnsley.
“That [defending] is not like us,” said Warnock, whose last two games are at Hull and home to Reading. “It’s a match we should have won but, as I said to the players, every team in the Authentic Patrice Bergeron Jersey league apart from Wolves would love to be where we are. And at least we know what we http://www.chargersshopfootball.com/Authentic-Brandon-Mebane-Jersey have to do now: win the http://www.lionsshopnfl.com/Authentic-Marvin-Jones-Jr-Jersey last two games.” cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys from china wholesale nfl jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys cheap jerseys china wholesale nfl jerseys

Should the Giants really draft Saquon Barkley?

The Cleveland Browns are going to select a quarterback with the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft. What happens next will begin to tell the story of this year's class. The New York Giants might draft a quarterback. They might trade the No. 2 pick. They might select one of Dave Gettleman's much-beloved hog mollies, such as Notre Dame guard Quenton Nelson or NC State defensive end Bradley Chubb.

The most popular pick for the Giants, though, is Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. Anyone who watches two minutes of Barkley's highlights can understand why Gettleman might want to keep the 21-year-old in the Northeast, as the tape suggests that he is a transcendent talent. He produced a nation-high Will Sutton Authentic Jersey 3,801 yards from scrimmage the past two seasons, and his 45 touchdowns tied him with Devin Singletary of Florida Atlantic atop the http://www.authenticbluejaysstore.com/Authentic-Ja-Happ-Jersey FBS leaderboard.

There's every reason to believe Barkley will be an excellent running back. The Giants have had six different backs rack up 100 carries over the past five seasons without finding a replacement for Ahmad Bradshaw, and they're currently projected to run out the duo of Wayne Gallman and Jonathan Stewart next season. Every team could use a Saquon Barkley. The Giants could really use one.
Should the Giants draft Barkley at No. 2? I don't think it's a great idea. That opinion has nothing to do with Barkley's considerable talent. I'm just not sure that the economics of the NFL and the running back market make it a smart decision to use the second overall pick on any rusher. Even if Barkley turns into a superstar, the Giants will be settling for a low-ceiling option if they draft him at No. 2. To understand why that's the case, you have to look at both the recent draft history and the economics of the NFL under the current collective bargaining agreement.
Part of the value of the draft is selecting players who will make a fraction of their true market value over the course of their rookie contract. Take Carson Wentz, who played at an MVP level in his second season before suffering a torn ACL. If Wentz were an unrestricted free agent this offseason, the 25-year-old would have no trouble finding a contract that would pay him $30 million per year for the next three seasons.
Instead of giving Wentz $90 million, if you prorate Wentz's signing bonus, the Eagles will be responsible for a total of $15.7 million over the next two years before picking up the quarterback's fifth-year option, which will be somewhere in the range of $22.8 million. (They could even franchise Wentz for another year at $27.4 million or so, but let's stop there.)
There's no stat that translates player performance into money, but we can use the current quarterback market to estimate what a top-tier passer gets in free agency to illuminate just how much of a bargain Wentz has been and will be if he continues to play at a high level. The top of the market was worth $25 million in 2017, will be Howie Kendrick Womens Jersey somewhere around $27.5 million in 2018 and should hit $30 million when Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan sign their new deals. If Wentz continues to play Kevin Hayes Youth jersey at a Pro Bowl level and is one of the five best quarterbacks in football, he'll save the Eagles more than $75 million:
Of course, Wentz doesn't have to play at that high of a level to justify his current contract. The first four years of his deal amount to a total of $26.7 million, which is an average of $6.7 million per season. That's slightly more than the league's better backups will receive on their deals. (For example, Nick Foles originally signed a two-year, $11 million deal with the Eagles before renegotiating it this month.)
Even if you factor in an inconsistent debut season like his 2016 campaign, the upside for the Eagles is getting a quarterback worth $95 million while paying $26.7 million over the first four years. Even if you think Wentz has only a 30 percent chance of turning into that kind of http://www.pittsburghpenguinsofficialonline.com/Adidas-Bryan-Trottier-Jersey superstar going http://www.lionsfootballofficialauthenticstore.com/LIONS-DARREN-FELLS-JERSEY into the draft, you're right to take a shot on a quarterback with the second overall pick. The numbers aren't and can't be exact, but you get the idea: The upside for drafting a quarterback is getting an absolute bargain.
When you do the same math for running backs, though, the numbers aren't anywhere near as appealing. There are only 11 active four-plus-year contracts for running backs. You'll notice something interesting about the five largest active contracts for halfbacks: Unlike rookie quarterbacks, who don't come close to making what the most expensive players at their position earn, highly drafted running backs such as Ezekiel Elliott and Leonard Fournette enter the league as some of the highest-paid players at their position. Elliott would probably top LeSean McCoy and Clyde Drexler Womens Jersey make more than $8 million per year if he became a free agent, but upper-echelon running backs aren't coming close to the $25 million to $30 million annual going rate for signal-callers. cheap jerseys from china wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys from china wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys from china

leave Roma needing new miracle

Of all the mesmerising nights Liverpool have experienced under Anfield’s floodlights in the European competitions, where does this one stand? Up there, surely, with Saint-Étienne in 1977, Olympiakos in 2005, the fightback against Borussia Dortmund in 2016 and all the other famous occasions. Liverpool have added another exhilarating one to an already extensive list and, barring an almost implausible feat of escapology from Roma, can start looking forward to the final in Ukraine on 26 May.

The only possible note of caution is that Roma have already overcome a 4-1 first-leg deficit in the Stadio Olimpico against Barcelona in the quarter-finals. On that basis Jürgen Klopp was entitled to be dismayed by his team’s carelessness when they had a 5-0 lead. Yet perhaps the manager miscalculated by withdrawing Mohamed Salah, who had scored twice and set up two of the others. Roma promptly scored two of their own and, somehow, a hitherto rampant Liverpool side had to endure a nervous climax against reinvigorated opponents.
Ultimately, though, it was another triumphant night for Liverpool – a scintillating performance, for the most part – and Klopp’s team will head to Italy for the return in a position of strength. True, it might not have been the position they anticipated when they led by five goals and were threatening to add even more. Yet it was a smile on Klopp’s face at the final whistle. Liverpool might have been disappointed not to inflict a quick kill but they have inflicted grievous damage and, on this evidence, they should be confident about adding more goals when the sides meet again on Wednesday week.
Roma played well for the opening 20 minutes and found some new momentum in the final quarter of an hour. In between, however, Serie A’s third-placed side looked in need of smelling salts. Liverpool attacked from every angle. The din was extraordinary and Salah had such a hold on the match that it felt almost like a trick of the mind to realise that the fifth goal, when Roberto Firmino headed in James Milner’s corner, did not have the Egyptian’s fingerprints all over it.
At that stage, with 69 minutes gone, it would not have been a surprise if Liverpool had emulated, or even bettered, the seven goals that Manchester United scored past Roma in the 2007 quarter-finals. Instead there was a strange and unexpected end to a wild and eccentric evening. There has never been a semi-final in the Champions League with more goals and, if nothing else, at least Roma kept the tie alive with their late show of resistance. Yet the point remains that Liverpool ought to be enthralled with their night’s work.
In the process Salah Orlando Cepeda Authentic Jersey scored his 42nd and 43rd goals of the season. Sadio Mané added another to his personal collection and Roberto Firmino scored two http://www.officialauthenticlionsstore.com/Nike-Nevin-Lawson-Jersey.html of his own. Together, those three have accumulated 87 goals this season. Mané’s finishing might have been erratic sometimes but he quickly realised he had the beating of Federico Fazio, the former Tottenham Hotspur reserve. Firmino rarely disappoints on the big occasions and for long spells it was difficult not to pity Eusebio Di Francesco’s team. Roma were taking an almighty chasing.
More than anyone, it was another night to savour the little guy with the magic in his feet and enough manners to hold up his palms in front of the away end to apologise for his first-half goals. Salah scored 34 times in 83 appearances for Roma but this performance was another reminder that he operates now at a different level.
His first goal was a peach – a curling, diagonal shot that went in off the underside of the crossbar – but the second was not too shabby either. Firmino slipped the pass through the middle http://www.officialedmontonoilers.com/Adidas-Anton-Slepyshev-Jersey and once Salah reached the ball first there was a sense of inevitability about what would happen next – a touch to steady himself, a quick look up and then an impudent chip over Alisson, the Roma goalkeeper, almost in slow motion.
When Manchester City came here in the quarter-finals Liverpool inflicted the damage with a blitz of three goals before half-time. This time they restricted themselves to Salah’s double but one of the Cincinnati Bengals Jersey more attractive traits of this side is that, when they are in a winning position, they always go looking for more goals. Another team might have prioritised a clean sheet in the second half. Liverpool, on the other hand, sensed a rout, attacking from every angle, with Salah at the hub of everything.

Thunder on the brink of elimination after Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY -- As the Oklahoma City Thunder shot free throws in the second quarter, a Utah Jazz fan seated baseline waved his cardboard Ricky Rubio cutout head on a stick. The stick snapped in half, and Rubio's head went flying onto the court.

Russell Westbrook popped up off the end of the bench and walked onto the floor, picking up Rubio's cardboard head. He acted as if he were going http://www.footballchiefsofficial.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_PHILLIP_GAINES_JERSEY.html to crumple it up and then shot a grin at the Jazz fans as they booed him. After proclaiming following Game 3 that he was going to shut down Rubio, Westbrook came out ready to back it up, picking Rubio up full-court, scrambling back to get in a deep defensive stance and clapping at him as they lined up to go one-on-one. It was on -- or so it seemed to be.

Westbrook picked up his first foul by inadvertently tripping Rubio and raised his hand immediately to claim the foul. A few minutes later, Westbrook picked up full-court again, and this time Rubio sold some contact to hand Westbrook a second foul some 90 feet from the basket. A third foul came when Westbrook swatted Rubio's fadeaway jumper into another galaxy but was called for some contact. With Westbrook staying in late into the second quarter, Rubio stepped in front of Westbrook and drew a fourth foul on a charge on the perimeter.
As Westbrook walked to the bench with a minute left, smoke fuming off of him as even Mitt Romney taunted him courtside with four fingers in the air, much like in Game 3, the Jazz closed the half with a massive boost of momentum. "We Bill Barber Jersey just stayed within ourselves," Donovan Mitchell said. "We always say the strength of our team is the strength of our team. I said this morning we're not really worried about one individual comment. I think if we get caught up in that it takes us out of our own game, and our play showed tonight that we really just focused on each other and made the right plays when we http://www.authenticflyersite.com/-14-sean-couturier-jersey_c-493.html needed to."
Westbrook accomplished his mission, at least statistically, in the first half. Rubio was shut down, with just six points on 1-of-5 shooting. But it was the gamesmanship by Rubio that bested Westbrook, using Westbrook's hyper-charged energy against him to put him into foul trouble and neutralize his aggressiveness. After the fourth foul, Westbrook just wasn't the same player as he protected against his fifth.
"Little bit. Little bit," Westbrook said of his approach changing because of foul trouble. "Obviously, not being able to be on the ball takes a little bit of aggression away, but things like that happen within the game and you've got to figure out how to play with it."
While the Jazz opened the game with a dynamite third quarter (outscoring OKC 12-2 in the first three minutes), everything changed in those closing minutes of the first half. Utah has a 3-1 lead after a 113-96 win, and the Thunder are officially on the ropes. Womens Taylor Hall Jersey It's not about me and him," Westbrook said when asked if his aggressiveness with Rubio backfired. "Let's get past that. We're done with that." It's not all that complicated, what the Jazz have done to the Thunder in the series. OKC is losing a simple math problem.
Utah generates better, more consistent shots from Bronson Kaufusi Authentic Jersey efficiency areas, while the Thunder basically cross their fingers that their superstar players have a good night. Even when the looks have been clean -- like they were for Carmelo Anthony -- they aren't going down. Per ESPN Stats & Information tracking, the Thunder went 22 minutes, 9 seconds of game time without recording an assist (between made baskets at 10:33 of the second quarter and 0:24 of the third quarter). In that span, they attempted nine shots with an assist opportunity, compared to 27 attempts http://www.officialgiantsfootballs.com/Jonathan-Casillas-Jersey-Cheap that didn't have an assist opportunity.
"We were aggressive. We were in attack mode," Paul George said. "We were aggressive. We missed shots. I don't think all season long we've finished a game with only five 3-pointers. We missed shots." Westbrook hasn't looked himself, and he played with black kinetic tape all over his upper body. Billy Donovan says Womens Tyson Ross Jersey he's fine -- or at least he hasn't been told of any injury -- and Westbrook has fully participated in practices and shoot-arounds. But he struggled shooting again, hitting 6-of-17 from the floor for 20 points, plus 10 rebounds and 3 assists. George finished with 32 on 9-of-21, but with Anthony hitting just 5-of-18, including 0-of-6 from 3, and with the Thunder unable to produce consistent stops, that wasn't cutting it. It isn't a coincidence that Westbrook finished with three assists and didn't have any in the first quarter.
here was so much talk of the Jazz's playoff experience, or lack thereof, but in Game 4, it was the Thunder who unwound. The intensity in the opening six minutes was off the charts, with technical fouls and light scuffles breaking out, but Utah held its poise while the Thunder took hurried shots and picked up tough fouls. Joe Ingles (20 points) lit the fuse with a flurry of 3s in the first half, and Mitchell (33 points on 13-of-28 shooting) threw the closing haymakers.
As the Thunder know firsthand, a series doesn't end at 3-1. But the way the Jazz have outclassed the Thunder in the past two games sure makes it feel like it should. Game 5 is Wednesday in Oklahoma City, but the Thunder will take the floor having talked tough but returning home red-faced with their season on the line. wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys free shipping wholesale nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale nfl jerseys

A series of supportive phone

More people are reading
A series of supportive phone conversations with Ruby Walsh was one of the things that helped Paul Townend shake off a calamitous error on Tuesday and ride three winners from four mounts here on Wednesday, a turnaround in his fortunes that he described as “unreal”.

Working for Willie Mullins is a big help to anyone; the trainer bagged a scarcely credible six winners out of seven races and is now ahead of Gordon Elliott in prize money won for the season, making him long odds-on to keep his title as Ireland’s champion.
“It’s like fantasy racing,” said Mullins, who could not remember http://www.officialbaseballgiants.com/Brandon_Crawford_Jersey having had six winners on a single card anywhere, never mind the day of the Punchestown Gold Cup, which he won with Bellshill. “We came here under a bit of a cloud but what a reply from Paul, and from all the jockeys. It’s been tremendous.”
Townend apologised for his inexplicable blunder on Tuesday, when he steered a likely winner around the final fence. “I thought I heard a shout and that the last fence was being bypassed,” he said in a statement and refused several requests to elaborate.
Racing is never short of conspiracy theories and at times they are bang on the money but Townend’s mishap on Al Boum Photo looks bizarre rather than suspicious, on the Jahlil Okafor Jersey available evidence. The Irish Turf Club said it had seen nothing in the pattern of betting that would prompt further inquiry.
The Tizzard clan, trainers of Finian’s Oscar, have as much reason as anyone to be sore about what happened, as Al Boum Photo carried their horse out of the race. But Joe Tizzard met Townend at Mullins’s yard on Thursday morning and was reconciled with him.
“It was human error,” Tizzard said. “The first thing he did, when he saw us in the yard, he got off his horse and walked over to shake my hand and apologise. Really nice. We’re not the sort of people that are ever going to bear a grudge or anything daft like that.”
Asked about what, in his view, Andre Dawson Jersey had caused Townend’s mistake, Tizzard, a former jockey, said: “I don’t think he really knows himself. There was something triggered him into thinking he had to go round the fence and there’s not a lot of time in those circumstances. You could tell it was affecting him. I felt for him.”
Townend could also http://www.saintsonlineofficialshop.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_JOHN_KUHN_JERSEY.html take comfort from Walsh’s words of support, uttered over the phone and at some length on Tuesday night. The message conveyed, apparently, was: “If this was an ordinary day in Ireland, you might be waiting a week for a chance to go out there and put it behind you. But the good news is, it’s the Punchestown Festival and you’ve got good rides in Grade Ones.” And Townend made the most of the opportunity.

The Guardian’s independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too. wholesale jerseys wholesale nfl jerseys wholesale nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys

The Titans probably will want to trade back if the board

plays out like this to increase their low draft capital, but in this scenario they nab Hubbard for immediate and long-term pass-rush help. Hubbard fits the Titans’ desires for versatility, intelligence, instincts and play speed over timed speed. Titans coach Mike Vrabel also recruited Hubbard to Ohio State when he was a Buckeyes assistant. Hubbard gives the Titans a talented understudy to be groomed by veterans Brian Orakpo (who will be 32 at start of the season) and Derrick Morgan (29), both of whom are entering the final year of their contracts. -- Cameron Wolfe

The Falcons need a big, athletic body on the defensive line alongside nose tackle Grady Jarrett, and the 6-2, 311-pound Payne fits the description. Although Taven Bryan might be the most disruptive and Mo Hurst might be the best http://www.officialcardinalsbaseball.com/authentic-37-keith-hernandez-jersey.html scheme fit, the Falcons would settle for the former Crimson Tide star because he brings a massive, strong presence against the run and helps free up linebackers to make plays. The Falcons lost Dontari Poe (Carolina) in free agency, so Payne can Brad Nortman Authentic Jersey step right into the rotation. They could live with Payne being more of a nose tackle because Jarrett is versatile enough to play the 3-technique and has the quickness and counter moves to pressure quarterbacks. -- Vaughn McClure

Receiver is no longer a “must” for the Saints after they signed Cameron Meredith and Brandon Coleman this month. But they could absolutely find room for a player whom ESPN’s Todd McShay called “the clear No. 1 wideout in this draft.” The Saints had the NFL’s No. 2 offense last year, but they ranked 19th on third downs and could use another reliable pass-catcher at receiver or tight end. Some of Ridley’s testing numbers at the combine could ding his draft stock a little bit, but he probably won’t fall all the way to No. 27. The 6-foot, 189-pounder showed some dynamic playmaking ability at Alabama and is widely considered a terrific route Brooks Laich Youth jersey runner. -- Mike Triplett
The Steelers are eyeing inside linebacker or defensive line help, but the high-end playmakers at that position will be gone. They like LSU running back Derrius Guice but are still hoping for a long-term deal with Le'Veon Bell. So the Steelers go with value here, grabbing an uber-athletic center fielder who will bolster the secondary. They like this player and met with him during the pre-draft process. -- Jeremy Fowler
The Jaguars led the NFL in rushing attempts (527), yards (2,262) and average per game (141.4), but their production dropped off significantly over the final six games. They averaged 51.3 yards rushing less per game in Weeks 12-17 than they did in the first 11 weeks and surpassed 100 yards rushing just twice in their final six games. Leonard Fournette ran for 1,040 yards as a rookie, but he only averaged 3.9 yards per carry. Inconsistency in the interior offensive line play was an issue the Jaguars needed to address and they did it by signing G Andrew Norwell in free agency. Hernandez is a powerful blocker who can take over on the right side.
It's possible the Vikings end up trading down with a quarterback-needy team eyeing their selection at http://www.authenticrangersstore.com/martin-st--louis-jersey_c-425.html 30. If they stay put, the 30th overall pick is essentially a second-round pick by virtue. Guard is the most pressing need for Minnesota entering the draft. While the Vikings certainly can fill that void when they pick in the second round given the strength of this year's class, a player such as Ragnow will be "so far gone" at that point, as one league source put it. Injuries have been a problem on the interior between Nick Easton and Pat Elflein, so going after a
player with a similar build and potential durability issues is likely something the Vikings want to avoid. The elite offensive lines that run similar blocking schemes feature players that look like Lane Johnson. That's what Minnesota wants. Ragnow's 6-foot-5 frame and tremendous length is a huge sell for the Vikings http://www.officialcarolinahurricanes.com/Adidas-Sebastian-Aho-Jersey as they look for Joe Berger's replacement at right guard. Ragnow was ranked one of the top centers in the draft but has the ability to swing over to guard and fill in as a Day 1 starter. -- Courtney Cronin
The Patriots had starting left tackle Nate Solder depart in free agency, and while they have in-house options in LaAdrian Waddle, Antonio Garcia and Cole Croston, they still have a need for another layer on the depth chart. And if that player could become a long-term answer, it would be even better for them. Miller has drawn some comparisons to Solder in terms of his height and length, so he has some of the Craig Hartsburg Authentic Jersey traits that the Patriots would view as worthy of a first-round choice. He was also one of the team’s 30 in-house visitors leading into the draft, which could be viewed as the team still having an interest in him at a late point in the draft process. -- Mike Reiss
Trading out looks mighty tempting right now. The Eagles are tied for a league low with six picks and don’t own a second- or third-rounder. With the likes of safety Justin Reid and wide receivers Courtland Sutton, D.J. Moore and Christian Kirk still on the board, executive VP of football operations Howie Roseman knows he can move back into the second round, acquire more draft capital and still land a good player. If the Eagles stand pat, Guice will be among the top options. He has fans in both the coaching and personnel departments and would make a backfield currently led by Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement downright scary. -- Tim McManus
