Plenty of bold predictions Tarik Cohen Jersey , both directly related to the Bears and otherwise, were made by members of Windy City Gridiron shortly before kickoff of the 2018 regular season. With the regular season drawing to a close, now would be a good time to look back, and perhaps to have a few laughs as well. You can see predictions related directly to the Chicago Bears here. And, for everywhere else in the NFL including playoff seeding, here. Let’s get into the highlights: Starting with the biggest miss from all but one of the writers...a vast majority of us did not originally pick the Bears to win the division. Myself included. In fact, a handful of us: Lester Wiltfong Jr; Robert Zeglinski, Jacob Infante, and Sam Householder predicted the Bears would miss the playoffs entirely. I has a sad :( The only one who did predict the Bears on winning the NFC North: Patti Curl! Congrats, Patti! I’m bringing back a classic for this moment. Sam had the Bears at the worst overall record in comparison to the rest of the staff. Here’s his season prediction and his explanation for it. The best record belonged to Ken Mitchell, who predicted the Bears going...wait for it...16-0. If only, Ken. If only....As far as some of our bold Bears-related predictions, we have three that came true so far. In fact, Kyle Fuller (7) and Prince Amukamara (3) have exactly 10 interceptions combined right now. Sam gets some redemption here for being right on the turnover margin. As it stands, the Bears have a +13 turnover margin, which is the best in the league. The Bears are in the playoffs as division champs. And, Mitchell Trubisky currently has a passer rating of a 94.1. That, if it stands, is a franchise record for a single season among quarterbacks with 12+ starts. We also have one that’s pretty close, and has the chance of becoming true by season’s end. Right now, the Bears are ranked at 4th place for total sacks with 45 registered on their defense. The top ranked Minnesota Vikings have 47. There’s still a good chance these Chicago Bears can reach #1 in sacks by season’s end. As far as non-Bears related predictions, here are a few golden nuggets. Starting with this one. Patrick Mahomes is having an MVP season. He’s the starting QB for the AFC in this upcoming year’s Pro Bowl. Both Patti and I knew the Green Bay Packers would miss the playoffs. And, not to my surprise at least, Mike McCarthy has already been fired by Green Bay. Even though I will concede I did not think the Packers would fire McCarthy in-season. We might have a few closet Browns fans among us. All kidding aside, the Cleveland Browns have grown into a much better football team. And Ken was dead-on with his forecast of an early departure for Hue Jackson. Which, again, happened mid-season. What are some of y’all’s favorite predictions? And, well if you feel the need to roast us, then I guess now’s the time to do it. Truly, the NFL will always be the least predictable professional sports league in existence. {Inserts shrugging emoji} For the first time in years http://www.thebearslockerroom.com/authentic-jim-mcmahon-jersey , the Bears’ fingerprints could be seen all over Day 1 of the draft." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteWindy City GridironWindy City Gridiron - Being who you thought we were since 2005!Log In or Sign UpLog InSign UpFanpostsFanshotsSectionsBearsOddsAboutMastheadCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 322 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Latest NewsThe Bears DenNotesXs and OsSuperfansFiled under:From The Desk Of...Roster AnalysisChicago Bears Draft 2019King of the hill: Without a first-round pick, the Bears still influenced the NFC NorthNew,4commentsFor the first time in years, the Bears’ fingerprints could be seen all over Day 1 of the draft. CDTShareTweetShareShareKing of the hill: Without a first-round pick, the Bears still influenced the NFC NorthPatrick Gorski-USA TODAY SportsBears general manager Ryan Pace isn’t one to tip his hand. But with no first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, he had no choice but to have a little fun. As he professed before Thursday night’s proceedings, instead of focusing on prospects, Pace and the Bears elected to celebrate their best player Khalil Mack during the first round. On an otherwise quiet night at Halas Hall, when the Raiders came up to use the No. 24 overall pick they acquired from the Bears for Mack’s first-team All-Pro services, the Bears played 2018 Mack highlights. Like their own “Rains of Castamere,” the Bears reveled in the victory of their addition of a future Hall of Famer. To most, it was the only noise, the only influence the Bears had on the entirety of the first round. A celebration of one special player and relative amusement over what the Raiders tried to accomplish with a bevy of early draft picks. That is of course, if you only take a cursory glance. Look deeper and the Bears’ influence was present everywhere, in particular for their closest competitors. It can be overlooked this time of year, but as a defending division champion, the Bears have a bullseye on their back. They’re the team everyone else in the NFC North is chasing and attempting to emulate until further notice. When the Bears were a bottom feeder with four straight last place divisional finishes from 2014-2017, they were the team trying to pick up the pieces while hunting the Packers and Vikings. No one took them seriously, and rightfully so. With Chicago possessing one of the most complete NFL rosters on paper for the time being, the Packers, Vikings, and Lions all found themselves tailoring their 2019 first-round draft plan around finding a way to beat the Bears. In this arena, the Bears are the king of the NFC North hill, and you have to do more than charge straight on to get them off the top. Three of the four first-round picks made by the Bears’ divisional rivals had a latent plan behind either beating the Bears, or copying what they had accomplished in 2018. Detroit Lions: No. 8 overall, T.J. Hockenson, TEFighting defensive fire with tight end fireIf the Lions have anything to say about it, Hockenson is about to torment the Bears for years. Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY SportsListing off what the NFL’s best reigning defense does well can be a fruitless exercise. From sitting at No. 1 overall in Football Outsiders’ DVOA, to forcing the most turnovers (36), the Bears did everything possible to shut down the opposition last season. One of the most underrated aspects behind the Bears’ defensive success in 2018 was how they defended tight ends. In a modern game where the tight end can act as a game-breaking X-factor a defense has no answer for Womens Walter Payton Jersey , the Bears routinely took away opposing Y’s and H-backs. According to Football Outsiders, despite facing the fifth-most pass attempts per game (7.8) toward No. 1 tight ends last season, the Bears allowed an average of just 41.6 receiving yards a game to the position — sixth-least in the NFL. Against a lockdown unit, opposing offensive coordinators tried to find a weakness with their tight ends in former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s scheme, and they failed time and again. The only tight end who enjoyed a measure of success against Chicago was 49ers Pro Bowler George Kittle, who caught seven passes for 74 yards in a late December matchup. Great coverage linebackers such as Roquan Smith, Danny Trevathan, and even Leonard Floyd were otherwise too much to deal with one-on-one. Within the NFC North specifically — where the Bears went 5-1 — they allowed a total of 13 receptions for 92 yards and no touchdowns to the division’s respective No. 1 tight ends over six games. That includes big names like Kyle Rudolph and Jimmy Graham among a ledger of porous tight end production. Hicks, Eddie Goldman, and Bilal Nichols. Three bullies up front who set the tone for the best part of the Bears defense, and destroy the worst part of the Vikings offense. In two games against Minnesota last season, Hicks alone had nine tackles, 7.5 tackles-for-loss, four quarterback hits, and 2.5 sacks. Nichols had four tackles, three quarterback hits, and one sack. Goldman had three tackles, one tackle-for-loss, one quarterback hit, and one sack. When you talk about stuffing the shat sheet with stars and depth, the Bears had it in spades against everyone, but especially the Vikings. They not only took control of the interior, they owned it. It was as if Hicks and company told Minnesota about lucrative and exclusive timeshare opportunities through two separate grueling three-hour presentations on the field. All the Vikings wanted to do was get to the pool and beach and relax, but they couldn’t. These were timeshares designed to only take advantage of the Vikings.Collectively, the prowess of the Bears’ defensive interior was on display throughout the entire year. According to Football Outsiders, the Bears allowed the third-least amount of rushing yards up the middle and were second only to the Lions in allowing the least amount of successful attempts up the middle at 46.2 percent. The Vikings meanwhile were the 26th-least successful rushing team behind their center or either guard, garnering a mere 4.11 adjusted line yards when electing to ground-and-pound. Where the Bears were at their best, Minnesota was at its worst. Beyond the foibles of Kirk Cousins, Chicago’s interior dominance over the Vikings was the biggest reason they snatched away the divisional crown. Bradbury, while a solid prospect who should have a good career Gale Sayers Jersey , faces a tall order to quickly shift Minnesota’s fortune against the Bears’ main defensive strength. The Vikings, in making such a grand investment in his future to beat Chicago, expect nothing less. Green Bay Packers: No. 21 overall, Darnell Savage, SA copycat league foreverEveryone wants their own Eddie Jackson. Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY SportsThanks to fancy draft finagling on their part, the Packers started Thursday night with multiple first-round picks. As a franchise that considers itself to be a part of the NFL’s gold standard, they also had a plan of emulating the Bears they’d stick to at all costs. One of the best aspects of the Bears is another 2018 first-team All-Pro in Eddie Jackson. To this stage in his career, he’s on pace to potentially be the best playmaking safety the Bears have ever had. The 26-year-old is a modern reincarnation of the feared Ed Reed. If that sounds ludicrous, ask the first-ballot Hall of Famer in Reed about the valid comparison. Naturally, when you have such a talented player like Jackson at your disposal, your closest competitors are going to find a way to copy your success if they can. In a cliche copycat league, everyone wants the “next Eddie Jackson”. Green Bay already signed former Bears safety and all-out thumper Adrian Amos to an expensive deal in March’s free agency. But they still needed a ballhawk with coverage range and instinct like Jackson beside him. Savage, while a reach at No. 21 overall, fits the Packers’ bill to a tee. Over the last two years, Jackson and Amos formed quite the complementary pair. Amos, the hybrid in-the-box safety. Jackson, the rangy closer covering for everyone else’s mistakes even when they didn’t ask. By nabbing Savage — and trading up for him to boot — the Packers want to copy the template of the 2017-2018 Bears. Amos is still the thumper, but now Savage is the rangy closer. General manager Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay front office don’t make this pick if they aren’t envisioning what the Bears have built over the past couple of seasons. For one, if Amos was really a complete all-around coverage player, Savage isn’t a Packer right now. But then again, the Packers never considered his faults in such a manner. They signed Amos with an idea in mind that they were always going to find his more nimble ballhawk and Jackson-like friend in the draft. The Packers following the Bears’ lead. After over a quarter century of a tilted rivalry ... what a world. Future ramificationsFor once, everyone else in the NFC North wanted to be like the Bears and they didn’t hide it. For once, the Bears had a direct influence on how their competitors approached the most important acquisition day of the year, and they didn’t have to do anything but exist. For once, the Bears learned it’s good to be the king. A lopsided loss to the Los Angeles Chargers looked like a step back Youth Nasir Adderley Jersey , even if coach Jon Gruden tried to put a positive spin on the game Monday."I think there's a lot of good things, honestly, that happened yesterday," Gruden said about the 26-10 loss before ticking off a list of problems. "The scoreboard was lousy, the field positon was bad, we gave up some big plays that was not good. Terrible interception in the red zone. There's some negative things that are still resonating with me and Raider Nation."Gruden then went on to praise the play of eight rookies, including tackle Brandon Parker and defensive tackle P.J. Hall, fill-in left guard Jon Feliciano, and some good plays made by Derek Carr outside of a costly interception on first-and-goal from the 1."I'm going to continue to emphasize the good and do everything I can to fix the things that are bad, because most of the things that are bad, my fingerprints are all over," Gruden said.It was not easy to sugarcoat this game, which marked the first time all season the Raiders (1-4) never held a lead. The pass rush generated little pressure Cheap Nasir Adderley Jersey , the defense created no turnovers, special teams provided no short fields, and Carr threw an interception at the worst time possible. With the Raiders trailing 20-3 and looking to mount a comeback late in the third quarter, Oakland had the ball first-and-goal from the Los Angeles 1. Despite the presence of powerful back Marshawn Lynch, Gruden opted to call for a play-action pass on first down. When no one broke open immediately, Carr held onto the ball before trying to force it to Derek Carrier in the end zone instead of throwing the ball away. Melvin Ingram was right there for an interception, marking the second time this season the decision to use Lynch as a decoy at the goal line backfired.Fullback Keith Smith was stopped on a fourth-down run from the 1 in a 20-19 loss at Denver last month. And of course, Lynch is still smarting from another goal-line interception that cost him a Super Bowl title in Seattle back in the 2014 season.Lynch tossed his helmet up in frustration as he left the field and didn't play the rest of the day as the Raiders were in their hurry-up offense for their only remaining drive.Gruden said he threw his visor and helmet in anger as well, and that frustration was something he had in common with Lynch. He still stood by the play call even if the execution didn't work."We were down 20-3. It wasn't the last play of the Super Bowl. We were down 20-3," he said. "It was first-and-goal, trying to save as much time as we can with a play-action pass."The Raiders have little time to dwell on this loss with a trip to London coming up this week to face the Seahawks. Rather than request an East Coast game before the long trip and either practice there or in London for the week, the Raiders opted to stay at home for most of this week. They will practice Tuesday through Thursday at their facility in the Bay Area before taking the long trip to London on Thursday night. They will arrive Friday afternoon and then get ready for the game Sunday night."I hope I can make it, honestly White Nasir Adderley Jersey ," Gruden said. "I'm not great. I get claustrophobic. My son was a weightlifter and he won a powerlifting competition in Belarus. I had to fly 14 hours. I had to fly home 14 hours. I had vertigo for a month. I couldn't even lay down, the house was spinning. I am hoping I don't get vertigo. I'm not a great traveler. I'll be honest with you, I hate it. I'm not good. I'm concerned. I'm more worried about that than our goal-line offense right now." Per an official announcement: As you’ll recall Black DeAndre Carter Jerseys , Morelli was the ref for the 2017 Eagles versus Carolina Panthers game on Thursday Night Football that featured absolutely awful, one-sided officiating. The Eagles ultimately won that matchup but they came much closer to losing than they reasonably should have been ... thanks to Morelli and his crew.It wasn’t just one bad game for Morelli, either. Going back further, the last four Eagles games he officiated were clearly lopsided in favor of Philadelphia’s opponent. Coincidence? Bias? Conspiracy? Whatever the case DeAndre Carter Jerseys 2019 , the Eagles won’t have to worry about Morelli officiating their games anymore. Can’t wait to see which conference gets screwed over in the Pro Bowl this year. (Just kidding, who watches the Pro Bowl?)...Hat tip to BGN reader @xAmethystical on this story. For more news, check out our Eagles 2019 NFL free agency rumors tracker."2019 NFL free agency hasn’t even officially begun yet but the Eagles have already been very busy in the legal tampering window. Philadelphia agreed to terms with one new player, re-signed one of their own Black Malik Jackson Jerseys , made one big trade, and even had one of their own free agents signed away by another team. In order to catch up, here’s a recap of what’s happened so far.SIGNINGDT Malik Jackson agrees to 3-year contract worth $30 millionThis deal was originally misreported as $10 million over three years, which would have been insane value. Instead Malik Jackson Jerseys 2019 , it’s $10 million PER year, and that’s still pretty fine. Jackson is statistically one of the best interior pass rushers in the league. The Eagles had a big hole to fill at defensive tackle after declining to pick up Timmy Jernigan’s option. It’ll sure be nice to have Jackson around after a season where the Eagles didn’t really have a reliable interior defender aside from Fletcher Cox. The depth behind Cox and Jackson is still thin so don’t be surprised when Philly adds at least one more defensive linemen early in the 2019 NFL Draft. Remember that the Eagles have three selections in the top 57 picks.RE-SIGNINGOT Jason Peters agrees to 1-year contract worth $10 million ($5.5 million guaranteed)Keeping JP was the right move. He was always the Eagles’ best realistic option for protecting Carson Wentz’s blindside in 2019. The concern about Peters’ age (he turned 37 in January) and his injury issues are understandable. But Peters — a future Hall of Famer — is an exception worth betting on. It’s also possible he could be healthier now that he’s going to be two years removed from his 2017 ACL tear. The Eagles had no business just handing the left tackle job to Halapoulivaati Vaitai, who graded 80th out of 85 tackles by Pro Football Focus in 2018. to this offense should help stretch the field and make life easier on Carson Wentz. It’s fun to envision the excitement he should bring this year. The Eagles reportedly signed the 32-year-old Jackson to a 3-year, $27 million contract extension worth $13 million guaranteed. TENDEREagles use second-round tender on restricted free agent QB Nate SudfeldThis news was expected. The Eagles could’ve saved $1 million by using the original-round tender on Sudfeld but then they only would’ve received a sixth-round pick if he signed an offer sheet with another team and Philly declined to match. Now the Eagles will receive a second-round pick if Sudfeld signs an offer sheet Black DeSean Jackson Jerseys , though that won’t be happening. Instead, Sudfeld will likely replace Nick Foles as Carson Wentz’s backup in 2019. It’s still possible the Eagles will sign a veteran to compete with Sudfeld but one would think Philly isn’t giving Sudfeld $3 million this year just to be locked in as the No. 3 quarterback. DECLINED OPTIONEagles decline to pick up OG Stefen Wisniewski’s 2019 contract optionAs far as I know, no one even really knew that Wis had a 2019 option until yesterday’s news broke that the Eagles wouldn’t be picking it up. It’s not a surprise to see Wis is gone considering he clearly wasn’t a coaching staff favorite. The Eagles were reluctant to give Wis the left guard job in 2017 and he lost his starting role in 2018. Wis was a solid starter and a nice, versatile backup to have around but Philly wanted to save $3 million by declining his option. Wis also likely wanted out given that Isaac Seumalo and Jason Kelce recently received contract extensions. the Baltimore Ravens (No. 53)2 - Eagles’ own pick (No. 57)4 - Eagles’ own pick (No. 127)4 - Compensatory pick (No. 138)5 - Eagles’ own pick (No. 163)6 - Compensatory pick (No. 208)2020 NFL DRAFT1 - Eagles’ own pick2 - Eagles’ own pick3 - Eagles’ own pick3 - (Projected compensatory pick)4 - Eagles’ own pick5 - Eagles’ own pick5 - Acquired from New England Patriots6 - Eagles’ own pick7 - Acquired from Tampa Bay BuccaneersOVERALL THOUGHTSHowie Roseman is off to a strong start. The Eagles fortified the trenches DeSean Jackson Jerseys 2019 , which is always important, and filled a huge need by bringing DeSean back to Philly. Team speed is something Philly just so clearly lacked last season. The Eagles still have their work cut out for them. Running back needs to be addressed, as does linebacker. It’ll be exciting to see what comes next.EAGLES FREE AGENTSHere’s where things stand with the Eagles’ own free agents.Brandon Graham — Re-signs with with Eagles for $40 million over 3 yearsNick Foles — Signs with Jaguars for $88 million over 4 yearsNate Sudfeld - Tendered at second-round level by the EaglesPaul Worrilow — Re-signs with Eagles for 1 yearJake Elliott — Re-signs with Eagles for 1 yearRick Lovato — Re-signs with Eagles for 1 yearRonald DarbyJordan HicksJay AjayiGolden TateHaloti NgataChance WarmackMike WallaceCorey GrahamDarren SprolesRichard RodgersJordan MatthewsLaRoy ReynoldsD.J. From the referees to the executives in the boxes and all the way to the league office http://www.steelerscheapauthenticstore.com/diontae-johnson-jersey-cheap , there are fans out there that think their team is the target of a conspiracy. Growing up in Michigan, I got to hear a lot of Lions fans come up with some wild theories about why the league has kept them out of the Super Bowl for more than half a century now.Still, the theories don’t have much merit, but there are some ones out there that do. These are theories that make you squint at your computer screen for a little bit and think that there’s factual evidence behind them. While perhaps the NBA has two of the most popular sports conspiracy theories out there, the NFL has its fair share.Let’s take a look at some of those theories that quite a few people are ready to believe. From rigging big games, moving teams and keeping the media on a string, here are 15 NFL conspiracy theories that are crazy...but not that crazy. Max Scherzer had gone more than two months without a defeat. Now the Washington Nationals ace has lost consecutive starts for the first time in nearly three years.

News about the Cowboys was not in short supply last week.It was officially announced that Kellen Moore would be the team’s offensive coordinator (he might even call plays too) and Gil Brandt was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Even though the Cowboys aren’t playing in the Super Bowl Dallas Cowboys Brett Maher Jersey , these are good times.Something else that showed up on the ol’ Twitter timeline was a supposed feud between Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott. Yes, seriously. You see, it was rumored that Zeke unfollowed Dak on Instagram, welcome to the type of problems that can exist in 2019.I’m always down to see what players are doing and saying on social media, it’s an extension of their own views and interests after all. We often find out team-related things from these platforms (Tyrone Crawford first let us know Chaz Green was being used at left guard for example), but this example is kind of ridiculous. It doesn’t take a genius mind to realize that Dak and Zeke are as tight as friends can be. Even if there had been an unfollowing of sorts it would surely have been some sort of accident. Dak acknowledged this during his red carpet appearance at NFL Honors. You can see how hilarious Dak finds the idea to be because he chuckles at the question itself. As mentioned this is the world we live in where topics like this hold real relevance, just look at Antonio Brown or the NBA as a whole, but such is not the case with the quarterback of America’s Team.Dak and Zeke are good buds who happen to also line up in the backfield of the Dallas Cowboys Sunday after Sunday. It’s not the relationship that most friends have, but it’s one that works for them. There are no questions about that. Now that the Cowboys have begun their offseason and, for all intents and purposes, finished reconstructing their coaching staff, the team shifts its focus to free agency and the draft. While Dallas will certainly look to keep several of their own free agents, there are other players they could look to sign, and this series will focus on potential free agent targets at each position of need for the Cowboys. Today’s focus is on the need at safety.Earl ThomasTroy Wayrynen-USA TODAY SportsLet’s go ahead and get this one out of the way first. The Cowboys almost traded for ET a couple times last year, but Seattle reportedly asked for too much in return. Thomas, a lifelong Cowboys fan Womens Brett Maher 2019 Jersey , went on to pick off Dak Prescott twice in Week 3 and take a bow in front of the Dallas bench. The next week, he fractured his left leg and was placed on the injured reserve. Now, Thomas enters free agency and seems unlikely to return to Seattle. Back when Dallas was engaged in trade talks, they were unsure of Xavier Woods’ ability to play the center field kind of role Thomas did in Seattle for so long, but Woods used the 2018 season to prove himself. Still, adding a guy like Thomas would give Dallas a lot of versatility with their safeties, as Woods has good experience in the box, having switched out with Jeff Heath often this year. The biggest question with Thomas would be about his value. Thomas has carried a cap hit of $10 million or more for the last three years, so he might ask for more money than Dallas is willing to offer. There’s also the issue that ET will turn 30 before training camp begins and he’s coming off his second season-ending leg injury in three years. There are certainly younger options out there. Landon CollinsBrad Penner-USA TODAY SportsCowboys fans are certainly familiar with Landon Collins, as he’s been with the rival Giants the last four years. At six feet and 222 pounds, Collins fits the bill of a box safety with the coverage skills to also contribute as a free safety, giving the Cowboys versatility on the back end with Woods. Collins brings many of the same traits as Thomas, and he played at Alabama so his connection to Nick Saban probably makes him even more appealing to Jason Garrett. But Collins has one downside as a free agent prospect. Just coming off of his rookie contract, Collins will be looking for a big contract, and he’ll certainly get offers from other teams. Dallas may not be looking for a bidding war after the big contract they’ll give DeMarcus Lawrence. Add to it that Collins has been put on the injured reserve the last two years in a row, and his durability may be called into question. Kenny VaccaroChristopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY SportsKenny Vaccaro is a player the Cowboys have expressed interest in before. In the 2013 draft Cheap Brett Maher Youth Jersey , Dallas was reportedly targeting the Longhorn, but when Vaccaro got picked up by New Orleans the Cowboys traded back and selected Travis Frederick. And this past offseason when Vaccaro entered free agency, Dallas was rumored to be interested in signing him before opting to stick with Woods and Heath. Maybe the third time can be the charm. Coming out of college, Vaccaro was considered an ideal strong safety type. His first three years with the Saints showed that, and in 2015 Vaccaro’s 104 tackles was second best on the team. But over the next two years, nagging injuries limited him to just 23 games total and his production dropped as a result. He joined the Titans during the regular season but will be back on the market this offseason. It should be noted that his best year came after New Orleans switched to a 4-3 scheme that used Vaccaro more as a traditional box safety, and he would fill a very similar role in Dallas. The biggest question with him would revolve around health. HaHa Clinton-DixDouglas DeFelice-USA TODAY SportsHaHa Clinton-Dix is more than just a funny name, he’s a highly underrated safety. Clinton-Dix possesses rare playmaking abilities, and has notched 14 interceptions in his five years in the NFL. More than that, Clinton-Dix has never missed a game, and started 74 of the 80 games he’s played in. As they say, availability is the best ability. While Clinton-Dix has traditionally played a free safety role in Green Bay and Washington, he’s exhibited the traits that Dallas wants in a strong safety too, and is willing to go up and make tackles. He had over 100 tackles each of his first two years in Green Bay, and had 93 in 2018 while playing for two different teams. It came as a surprise when the Packers traded him away as many think highly of Clinton-Dix. Much like Thomas, Clinton-Dix would give Dallas a coverage ace who’s unafraid of playing in the box. However Dallas Cowboys Ibraheim Campbell Jersey , at just 26-years-old, Clinton-Dix might be too costly for the Cowboys. DeShawn SheadMark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsDeShawn Shead may be the most realistic free agent safety for the Cowboys, not counting any camp bodies that Dallas will inevitably sign. Undrafted out of Portland State, Shead spent the first six years of his career in Seattle under Kris Richard, and he was cut only after Richard left the team. He had a short and minimal stint with Detroit in 2018, but is a free agent again. In Seattle, Shead was initially brought in as a backup safety but later moved to cornerback out of necessity. He was never the best in deep coverage situations, but Shead’s size (6’2” and 212 lbs) gave him advantages over smaller receivers. Shead thrived the most in run defense, though, and he used his big frame and strength to carve out a productive tackling role. Shead seems intent on staying at corner, but for a reunion with his former position coach he may be willing to play in the box as a safety. It would certainly fit his skill set, and his familiarity with Richard’s tendencies is a big plus.
