Russo-USA TODAY SportsThe Green Bay Packers’ rookie class got a few days off this week. For perhaps the first time since last summer http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-mason-crosby-jersey , the team’s eight draft picks and twelve undrafted rookies got some down time following the conclusion of rookie minicamp on Saturday afternoon. The draft process is a brutal period for these players. Immediately following the end of their final college football seasons, most draft-eligible individuals dive immediately into workouts to prepare for drills that they will run at the NFL Combine and/or at their school’s Pro Day. That is effectively a full-time job, as is flying around the country for interviews and continuing to train between Pro Day and the draft itself.Once the draft concluded, players made their way to Green Bay for rookie minicamp shortly thereafter, with most of them signing contracts and all taking part in their first two practices as NFL players. However, because the Packers held their rookie minicamp last week — the earlier option out of two weekends that were available — that meant that the first-year players have to stay away from the team facilities until other team’s rookie camps conclude. With that window closing on Sunday, May 12th, the Packers will have their full 90-man roster together for the first time on the following Monday.Based on the team’s published schedule, they will have one week of conditioning and workouts before beginning Organized Team Activities on Monday, May 20th. At that point, the team has three weeks of OTA practices before mandatory minicamp takes place the week of June 10th. The conclusion of minicamp will then put an end to the offseason program, and players will be left to their own devices for almost six weeks before returning to Green Bay for the start of training camp on July 25th.For this rookie class, though, the past week must have been a nice, brief respite from the hectic schedules they have faced over the past few months. That summer break will be a relief as well, but hopefully the team’s full roster will finally be together a bit recharged, excited, and ready to get to work on Monday. Welcome to the Matt LaFleur era. Feels a little strange JK Scott Jersey White , doesn’t it?The Green Bay Packers have their first new non-interim head coach since 2006, and if you’re still processing the hire, you’ve got plenty of company. Many members of the APC staff are still working through their own feelings on the decision, as you’ll read below.LaFleur will be formally introduced as the new Packers head coach this afternoon, but that new conference notwithstanding, we want to know the answer to a simple question: what’s your gut reaction to the LaFleur hire? Here are ours.Wendi Hansen: Shook (in the best possible way)I’m not going to lie, when the news first broke that the Packers had indeed hired LaFleur, my gut reaction was “LaFleur. LaFleur?! LaFleur. Huh.” I was sort of indifferent, a little nervous, nervous and did I mention nervous? I knew of him, of course. His prior work with greats like McVay and Shanahan preceded him, not to mention the fact that he was Matt Ryan’s QB coach the year he won MVP. That says something. The more I read and researched, the more my confidence grew. LaFleur is young, innovative, creative and has just enough gumption to both allow Rodgers to do his thang, but reign him in when necessary. No one knows how this hire will pan out, and his actions on the field and with these guys will ultimately speak louder than words, but I’m excited to see what this offseason will bring Za'Darius Smith Jersey White , and the growth that will incur in 2019. Welcome to Green Bay, LaFleur.Bob Fitch: WaryI’m not going to profess that I know very much about the offensive scheme that LeFleur runs; I went to a Titans game this year and they lost to the Bills by a point, looking pretty bad while they did it. Ranking close to last in a lot of major offensive metrics isn’t a good look, but neither is having your starting quarterback injured with nerve damage and having Blaine Gabbert throw 鈪?of your offense’s passes.Let’s not kid ourselves; Mike Pettine will handle the defense, and LeFleur was brought in to ‘fix’ Aaron Rodgers and the good-but-could-be-better offense.Being a part of successful offenses can certainly look good on a resume, but it’s impossible for any outsider to know exactly what impact LeFleur had on those offenses. With all that said, it’s hard not to get excited about a shakeup in Green Bay. After many years of sticking with the same regime and not achieving anything in recent years, a breakup was overdue and Green Bay has since rebounded with a trendy young name on the coaching market. The sticker is still shiny on our new toy, so it’s fun and exciting for now, but consider me cautious.Paul Noonan: Extremely skepticalThis fundamentally comes down to LaFleur’s ability to get along with and fix Aaron Rodgers, and not much else matters. That is fundamentally a personality question, and I won’t pretend to know whether or not he’s the right guy, but what we do know of LaFleur is troubling. By almost all accounts, LaFleur hasn’t actually been in charge of any of the offense run by the various wunderkinder he’s been around. More troubling, Sean McVay did not have to let him go to Tennessee and did. More troubling, LaFleur was originally considered for the head coaching job for the Titans, was rejected, and came back for a lesser role. More troubling Kyler Fackrell Jersey , the Rams improved without him, and the Titans were downright bad. More troubling, many of his past press conferences reference a desire for offensive balance. More troubling, he is retaining Mike Pettine, indicating to me he doesn’t have his own guys or vision. There are excuses for all of these things, including injuries to Marcus Mariota, and he’s been around a lot of success, but I like to see some tangible accomplishments in my head coaches, not just projectability. I don’t care for excuses, and when I hear one, I want it followed by “I learned from that, and succeeded in this way.” Hopefully, Gute and Murphy are excellent interviewers, but if this regime crashes and burns I won’t be a bit surprised. Jon Meerdink: Thoroughly whelmedIf there was a list of what “Packers internet” wanted in the next head coach, Matt LaFleur is probably very close to what the Head Coach Generator Bot 3000 would have spit out. He’s young, has an offensive background, as is connected to some of the brightest stars in the world of coaching. But after reflecting on the hire for a couple of days now, I don’t find myself particularly excited or put off by the hire. I think that’s because there’s nothing you can point at and say “Yes Davante Adams Jersey White , that is the definable quality that makes Matt LaFleur a viable head coach candidate.” He has more than a few positive attributes (and nearly just as many possible red flags), but generally, it’s just a lot of pretty okay resume line items. That leaves me neither over- or underwhelmed by LaFleur, but also not angry, excited, or happy. Put me down as feeling very whelmed. I can’t muster much more feeling than that right now.Evan “Tex” Western: I want to believeI’m not 100% there yet on Matt LaFleur. I’ve made the case for him to myself several times in the past week or so, but I still find myself cautious because of one specific factor, despite being able to rationalize it.My main hangup is the fact that LaFleur has just a single year of play-calling experience, and in that one season, his Titans offense finished 22nd in DVOA. This is very much unlike Mike McCarthy, who had a significant body of work as a play-caller before Ted Thompson hired him. However, it is similar in that McCarthy’s one-year stop in San Francisco the season before he came to Green Bay resulted in one of the worst offenses in the NFL.The rationalizations here are that the Titans lost their best receiving weapon (tight end Delanie Walker) for the season in week one and their starting quarterback, Marcus Mariota, was injured all season, missing two games and significant portions of three others. The other thing I see is that from some film breakdowns (thanks Dusty Evely), you see the types of creative route concepts and combinations that the Kyle Shanahans and Sean McVays of the world use — a welcome sight after Mike McCarthy’s slant/flat and iso routes on every passing play.I’m not worried about LaFleur’s personality meshing with Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has said that he wants to be coached and challenged, and it seemed that he was mentally checked out in 2018. If former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky — one of LaFleur’s former players — is to be believed, that’s exactly what LaFleur will do for Rodgers.I never really believed that the Packers needed someone to come in and establish dominance over Rodgers. I thought the best option was to find someone who could establish a genuine rapport and mutual respect with him and who could stimulate him as a quarterback Clay Matthews Jersey White , both in his mechanics and decision-making. The fact that LaFleur has a background as a quarterback himself can only help in that regard.Ultimately, the ability of LaFleur to mold his vision for the offense around the Packers’ talent — Rodgers in particular — will be the determining factor in whether the unit returns to elite status, which will, in turn, decide if the team as a whole is a contender again. I think LaFleur has the right background and temperament for that task, but my reservations about his experience will still concern me until proven wrong.Peter Bukowski: Surprised, but not shocked I have no idea if Matt LaFleur will be a good coach. And based on the enormous variations in reactions among national pundits — many of whom didn’t even bother to do baseline homework — neither do most people. To hire him this quickly amid reports Josh McDaniels was the frontrunner suggests a coach who blew Mark Murphy and Brian Gutekunst away in the interview process. That’s no guarantee of success. It’s fair to say most coaches who end up getting hired were impressive in their interviews, otherwise, they probably don’t get hired. This feels like the Mike Pettine hire to me. It wasn’t who I thought the best choice would be (Josh McDaniels is my Vic Fangio in this case), but the more I dig into LaFleur, the more I learn about his past and pedigree, the most impressive he becomes to me. And the reasons to pick him over McDaniels from a personality and risk standpoint should be obvious. APC’s Jason Hirschhorn made a point to me that has really resonated: the biggest risk the Packers could have taken was to not take one at all. Bruce Arians, Jim Caldwell, Chuck Pagano, we knew what the ceiling was with those coaches. The retention of Pettine makes this hire’s intent clear: bring the Packers offense into the 21st century, re-engage Rodgers and bring some creativity to the mix. LaFleur appears to be equipped to do that.

Impact Plays: Colts vs Redskins week 2 film breakdown Each week Cheap Clayton Geathers Youth Jersey , I will look to break down two of the best or worst plays from the previous game, but I’ll need your help deciding what plays should be given a closer look as I hope to explain what happened in greater detail than the broadcasters can. Often you’ll hear “how did that guy get so open?” and I hope to be able to answer that question for Colts fans this season. This was truly a great week for Darius Leonard and he was the blowout winner of the impact plays poll, gaining 483 votes good for nearly 70% of all votes. Talk about a landslide. The second place finisher this week was T.Y. Hilton’s touchdown catch that was completely deserving of getting it’s own look, pulling in 11% of the vote. It is my stated goal to only breakdown two impact plays from the game, but I did say a random collection of Leonard plays so I will combine them and I’m going to focus more on what the rest of the defense is doing than on Leonard himself, we all saw what he could do, I want to know why he was able to do it. I’m also going to add a third play this week because, on a personal level, I want to breakdown a pitch play to Marlon Mack that, on game day, looked to have a really cool design. Strap in folks, it’s going to be exciting, we’re going to talk about some guards.First thing’s first, I’m going to start off with the Marlon Mack pitch play, it seems that only me and 17 other people wanted to see it so I’ll get it out of the way before I get to the stars of this week’s show. It’s 3rd and 2 on the Redskins 19 yard line. The Colts are up 7-3 and have put together a solid drive. This was the seventh play and the third run of the drive. On 3rd and 2 normally you think of hitting something up the gut, instead Frank Reich dials up this play:The first thing I noticed about this play is that T.Y. Hilton’s motion does absolutely nothing to the defense. The backside linebackers don’t even react, they stay home and play their responsibility but they aren’t worried about the jet sweep, at all. The second thing I noticed, the Redskins probably should have called a timeout. Ryan Kerrigan was lost. He had no idea where to be on the play and at the snap I believe he was roughly in the correct position but I have no way to actually know. The play itself is designed really well. Jack Doyle cracks (but it’s not really a crack back block because that’s illegal — we can’t have fun in football anymore) down on the edge defender. Both Le’Raven Clark and Quenton Nelson pull outside of the defender responsible for setting the edge and look to make a block in the open field. Nelson identifies the first defender that shows and gets hands on him to prevent the tackle. Clark does the same and takes a linebacker out of the play, meanwhile Ryan Kelly gets a good initial block on the nose tackle, ideally you would like to see him hold the block a little longer as his man was in on the tackle, but it’s tough to complain with such a well executed initial block. On the backside of the play we see Matt Slauson get his cardio in for the week Youth Clayton Geathers Jersey , through no fault of his own there wasn’t really anyone to block before the third level and as every smart safety in the NFL would do, he avoided engaging with the big right guard which kept him from making the play. Joe Haeg did a good enough job and Eric Ebron should never be counted on to block... yikes. All in all this was a really fun play, Mack does a good job of seeing his blocks develop and taking what’s there. I’ve seen some reports that Mack doesn’t have good vision, I don’t know that I agree with that, I think this play shows he is capable of seeing a hole develop and hitting it, I believe he is undisciplined and as a result inconsistent in this area of his game. Next we will take a look at Andrew Luck’s fourth quarter touchdown pass to T.Y. Hilton. This three yard score put the game away for our Colts and the people (that’s you) have spoken, they want to see the play design. At first I thought I was going to break everyone’s heart and declare this play a success due to blown coverage rather than brilliant play design, but it turns out I’m 99% sure the blown coverage was planned. This is a wonderfully designed play. Everything is designed to get Hilton open. When Nyheim Hines goes in motion he pulls the defensive back responsible for covering him down the line with him vacating that side of the field. Secondly, Ryan Grant runs a crossing route which is designed to pull defenders with him going in the opposite direction and possibly act as a pick, only the pick wasn’t needed. Why you might ask? Well, I will give you my best educated guess. The Colts came out in a bunch set to the left, Hilton, Chester Rogers and Jack Doyle are a difficult trio to cover in a bunch set at the goal line. To try and counter this, the Redskins appear to be pattern matching in the secondary. “Pattern matching” is a fancy way of saying the defensive backs are going to “switch” assignments based on which way the pass catchers run. Think of it like a pick in basketball, if the offense sets a pick, the defenders simply switch and cover the man who presents himself. I believe the Redskins were playing this style of coverage, which is a good option given the offensive alignment. The problem for the defense comes when Chester Rogers “trips” at the line of scrimmage and stumbles, clumsily into the legs of the defensive back lined directly across from him he is absolutely preventing him from making his switch as his responsibility would have been any route that came inside. Chester Rogers committed offensive pass interference that will never get called because apparently he’s spent some time at practice working on his “stumble” technique. Or it’s possible he actually did stumble, I choose to believe this was intentional. This truly is a masterful play design which resulted in easy points that closed out the game. This is the moment you’ve all, or at least seven out of ten of you, have been waiting for, I present to you (hopefully in a way that is unique from what Andrew Aziz brought you on Monday) Darius Leonard:This was Leonard’s first 3rd down stop of the day. The Redskins came out with five receivers and the Colts matched it with cover 1 (aka man-free). The Colts are in a pure man to man coverage with only Malik Hooker deep. They aren’t pattern matching Womens Andrew Luck Jersey , they aren’t doing anything cute, this is just one on one across the board. At the snap Pierre Desir gets beat by an inside crossing route. It would have been tough for him to cover the route given the formation. As a result Alex Smith sees an open receiver at about the same time Leonard does, Smith throws the ball and Leonard makes the stop four yards short of the first down. The Redskins motion running back Chris Thompson out wide and Desir goes with him, showing Alex Smith he will be working against zone coverage. At the snap of the ball Leonard shoots towards the throwing lane that the Thompson created before the snap. When Leonard sees that Smith is looking the other way he impressively is able to get back into coverage and has the awareness to feel the route that sat down behind him. This isn’t a common ability and the fact that he had the speed to go get in on the tackle is just icing on the cake that is this play. This tackle didn’t prevent a first down but this play in coverage is what impressed me on this one.If Darius Leonard proved nothing else he proved that he is a very good tackler. Leonard does take a false step here, but I get it, it’s a designed counter run. It’s essentially misdirection. Leonard is able to track the ball carrier, run and hit. He does a good job of wrapping Adrian Peterson up while backup arrived. Something I’ve noticed while re-watching the game, this Colts defensive line is stout. The run plays Leonard makes a big impact on he is largely unblocked and that is due to stellar play from the front four... Something I never thought I would type had you asked me in August. I’m breaking down this play because I’ve seen so many fans on the internet criticize the wrong player for doing things like Leonard does above. A lot of people will probably look at Leonard on this play and think that he failed because the ball carrier picked up 14 yards. But the thing is, Darius Leonard is playing winning football on this play. Everyone has a gap they’re responsible for. Leonard’s gap happens to be on the backside of this play, which is exactly where he goes. That gap is his home and if the running back were to cut back into his home, he’s ready to protect his house. This is how run defense works, if everyone fills their assigned gap, the other team will have nowhere to run. Leonard does the right thing on this play, he fills his gap and once the ball carrier is past the line of scrimmage he runs to make the tackle. This is exactly what he was supposed to do. Anthony Walker on the other hand was not playing winning football on this down. Instead he abandoned his gap responsibility because he saw the tight end block inside, where the Colts defensive tackles were busy controlling their gaps. Walker ran to a pile that the defensive line created instead of his assigned gap, where had he been, he would have had a chance to drop a first ballot hall of fame running back for a loss. Instead Darius Leonard had to make Anthony Walker’s tackle for him, 14 yards past the line of scrimmage. Final Thoughts From Week 2The Colts offense is in really, really good hands. For the first time I can remember we’re doing things that might be considered innovative and it’s only week two. The playbook is only going to grow from here and I predict, as long as the team stays relatively healthy the offense we see in week 15 is going to be nothing short of one of the top 3-5 in the league.I was as excited as anyone following Darius Leonard’s performance on Sunday. I mean how cool was it to see a Colts linebacker flying around, making plays and looking like a fluid athlete in space? Even though D’Qwell Jackson was the perfect linebacker in 1984, someone in the front office realized it’s 2018. Finally. I say that to say this Malik Hooker Jersey , Darius Leonard is probably going to end up being really good, but he’s not perfect. I saw a lot of tackles being made down field, which came for various reasons but the biggest concern I had was his inability to get off of blocks. If an offensive lineman got his hands on him, he lacked the ability to shed the block and make a play. Is this something that can be improved with time? Maybe. But in the meantime if the defensive line doesn’t continue to protect him like they did in Washington, we’re going to see a different, less productive Leonard, and even then, he’s still has a chance to be the best linebacker the Colts have had in space, maybe in the Indianapolis era. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsIndianapolis Colts fans were stuck in a fog for three seasons. It all started after the AFC Championship game on January 18, 2015 — a game that would later become known as Deflategate. Since the Colts were absolutely dismantled in Foxborough, things started to spiral out of control. The 2015 regular season would see Andrew Luck not only miss the first NFL game of his career in Week 4, due to what was reported as an injury to his throwing shoulder, it would be the first time Luck had to shutdown his season early after lacerating a kidney and partially tearing an abdominal muscle against the Denver Broncos in Week 9. Little did fans know at that time that the injury to Luck’s throwing shoulder would not properly heal. Knowing what we know now, it is astonishing that Luck was able to suit up for the entire 2016 season. He played through pain in his throwing shoulder for one of the most efficient seasons of his career. The Colts were still not able to make it into the playoffs but Luck did all he could have been expected to do, given the state of what was going on in his shoulder, to help the Colts get there.January 1, 2017 was the last time Colts fans would see their franchise quarterback play an NFL game until September 9, 2018. It was a difficult absence for fans but even more so for Andrew Luck. Luck had shoulder surgery in mid-January 2017. Most within the Colts organization Clayton Geathers Jersey Stitched , Luck included, thought he would be back by Week 1 for the 2017 season. However, he rushed his rehab. His shoulder did not heal properly. After a summer of questions, Luck was placed on the PUP list to start training camp but wastaken off prior to the regular season. He stayed positive. Luck practiced with the team for the first time in early October. However, there was a set-back. Luck kept pushing but something wasn’t right. A month later Luck was placed on IR, ending his season. People were starting to question whether Luck would ever play again.Luck spent much of the next two months in Europe seeking unspecified treatment for pain. No one heard much from him. No one knew what was happening with the shoulder of the quarterback meant to shoulder the load for the Colts franchise after taking over for the legend Peyton Manning. The questions continued. At the end of December, Luck returned to the Colts facility. He was cautiously optimistic he wouldn’t need another surgery. He was happy with where he was. He talked with Chris Ballard. They had a plan. Luck was going to stick with the plan and take his time. But the questions remained.Chuck Pagano was fired. Almost every coaching candidate wanted to know the same thing we all wanted to know, how is Luck? Every coach except Frank Reich. At that point, Luck confirmed he wasn’t throwing a football yet. The questions got louder.Luck started throwing again at the end of February. However, we found out later he wasn’t throwing a football. In late March, Chris Ballard said Luck will be eased into off-season team activities. But the question about Luck being back to his old self was still unsettled. In June, Luck finally started throwing “the Duke.” He was patient with his rehab and went about it the right way. His throwing motion was fixed. No longer was it compacted, placing extra pressure on the shoulder. But the question about how would Luck look against NFL defense still lingered? Luck ended up being fine. Actually, more than fine. He came on slowly in 2018. After a tough start of the season, he turned up the heat and had arguably the best year of his career on his way to becoming the Comeback Player of the Year. The road to this achievement was twenty long, arduous months in the making. Twenty months of strife and turmoil for Andrew Luck. Twenty months that made him stronger, better.Twenty months to finally answer the questions everyone was asking.Andrew Luck came back and he’s better than ever.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — All those positive vibes created by their big win over Baltimore three weeks ago are gone — mostly forgotten. The Browns are fading fast. And coach Hue Jackson or offensive coordinator Todd Haley could vanish soon.“We have to go to the drawing board Youth Tyrod Taylor Jersey ,” Jackson said following a 33-18 loss Sunday to the Steelers that wasn’t that close. “We have to get better. We aren’t where we need to be, bottom line.”Cleveland squandered early scoring chances, settling for field goals when touchdowns were needed, and the Browns (2-5-1) dropped their third straight game, raising more questions about Jackson’s future.A week after pledging to do whatever was necessary to fix Haley’s offense, Jackson, now 3-36-1 in two-plus seasons, doesn’t seem to have a strong handle on any aspect of his team.Cleveland gained 119 yards in the first quarter — but just 118 more over the final three. The Browns line didn’t do enough to protect rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield; the playmakers didn’t make enough plays; and once again, Cleveland’s offense bogged down after the defense forced turnovers. The Browns also allowed 421 yards and missed numerous chances to tackle Steelers running back James Conner, who picked up 146 and scored twice. Also Tyrod Taylor Jersey Stitched , kicker Greg Joseph was off target on a field goal and extra point.Following the game, Jackson used the word “disheartening” to describe the wayward kicks. He might as well been talking about his team’s overall performance as the Browns dropped their 15th straight game at Heinz Field.“It was a chance for us again to make a mark in the AFC North,” Jackson said. “Seems like we didn’t grab what I think we had a chance to grab.”The loss followed another turbulent week for the Browns, who have lost 25 consecutive road games — one shy of the NFL record held by the Detroit Lions (2007-10). Jackson’s postgame comments in Tampa Bay last week about “diving” in to help Haley turned into awkward news conferences during which both coaches insisted they were united.Jackson refused to dignify a report that he may soon fire Haley if the team doesn’t improve on offense.“I don’t want to talk about or give legs to anything about last week,” Jackson said. “I said what I said out of frustration. That’s over and done with. Let’s go watch the tape and see how we can get better.”Jackson said he has no issues with Haley.“There’s nothing wrong with my relationship with Haley,” he said. “I said what I said last week, and obviously, it had legs, but I never said I wanted to take away play calling. I said I wanted to help. That’s it. Now all of the sudden it’s this big ol’ thing because sure everyone’s going to look and say what’s going on? The only thing that’s going on is we need to get better. We need to coach better.”Jackson believes he still has the attention of his players, and isn’t concerned about them giving in.“Still up Youth Carlos Hyde Jersey ,” he said about the team’s overall mood. “Frustrated, mad, don’t like to lose like that. But this team will stick together and keep fighting.”Defensive end Myles Garrett raised some eyebrows when he was asked if the Browns, who tied the Steelers in Week 1 and beat the Ravens in overtime on Oct. 8, are going backward.“I think we just took the wrong approach this time,” he said, referring to Cleveland’s defensive game plan. “I think we should’ve just stayed with what we did the first time, just go with base calls and punch them in the mouth.”Browns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield threw a pair of touchdown passes, but spent much of the day under pressure from Pittsburgh’s rush.Mayfield was only sacked twice, and he did all he could to avoid a question about the Jackson-Haley relationship.“I try not to pay attention to that stuff Carlos Hyde Jersey Stitched ,” he said. “I’m invested in the game plan and invested in trying to learn and grow with some of these receivers. Trying to get the timing down, trying to get the trust, so that’s above my pay grade. I’m not worried about that. When it comes down to it, we come out here, we have to play the game to win.”Browns left guard Joel Bitonio echoed Mayfield’s remarks. He wasn’t going to get caught in a perceived tug-of-war between his coaches or comment on Haley, who had a forgettable return trip to Pittsburgh as an opponent after six seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator.“We’re trying to do our best with what we have out there,” Bitonio said. “I don’t think you can pinpoint it on one person.” Quarterback is the first Cleveland Browns player honored with the award."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Daily Dawg ChowRufio’s PlaybookBaker Mayfield named PFWA Rookie of the YearNew,8commentsQuarterback is the first Cleveland Browns player honored with the award.ESTShareTweetShareShareBaker Mayfield named PFWA Rookie of the YearRon Chenoy-USA TODAY SportsCleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield was named the Pro Football Writers of America’s Rookie of the Year on Tuesday.Mayfield is the first Browns player to be honored with the award, which has been presented on a mostly annual basis by the organization since 1966, when Atlanta Falcons middle linebacker Tommy Nobis took home the honors.Joining Mayfield on the All-Rookie team is cornerback Denzel Ward. EDTShareTweetShareShareCardinals CB Patrick Peterson suspended 6 games, will miss opener vs. LionsThe Detroit Lions caught a bit of a break this afternoon, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson has been suspended six games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy: The Lions are set to take on the Cardinals in the season opener in Arizona this year. The Lions got a similar break last year when the league suspended Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman for the first four games of the season. The Lions would end up defeating the Patriots 26-10 in Week 3.Peterson has been a key piece of the Cardinals defense for several years now. The eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time All Pro is still playing at a high level, earning Pro Football Focus’ fifth-highest grade among all cornerbacks last year (82.5). This news may force the Cardinals’ second-round pick Byron Murphy into the starting lineup in Week 1 against the Lions. Detroit is already expected to face rookie quarterback Kyler Murray Womens Devon Kennard Jersey , meaning the Lions will likely get a full look at Arizona’s top two picks. New,96commentsMock drafts are starting to converge on two players for the Lions. EDTShareTweetShareShare2019 NFL mock draft roundup: Detroit Lions down to two players? Glenn Beil-USA TODAY SportsNow that we’ve entered the final two weeks of draft season, it seems like there is a consensus grouping around the 2019 NFL Draft. Maybe it’s a symptom of groupthink, maybe there’s legitimate information out there, or maybe we’re all getting roped for a loop by information sent out there by smokescreening teams. But when it comes to the Detroit Lions Kerryon Johnson Jersey , it’s starting to look like there’s an increasing thought amongst analysts that they’re between two to three players. I took results from 20 different mock drafts from the past week, and two names kept popping up: Florida State’s Brian Burns and tight end T.J. Hockenson. Montez Sweat is still hanging around as we get further away from his incredible NFL Combine performance and there are also a couple players lingering, as well. Hockenson. Despite adding Trey Flowers in free agency Womens A'Shawn Robinson Jersey , analysts are still mocking an edge player to Detroit at a high frequency. That doesn’t mean these experts aren’t paying attention, Detroit could still certainly use more depth and youth at the position. Unsurprisingly, cornerback remains high atop the Lions’ perceived needs list, while no one appears convinced an offensive linemen is worthy of Detroit’s first pick. Player breakdownT.J. Perhaps most interesting is that the once-popular Greedy Williams is not only barely even mentioned in any of these mocks http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-anthony-zettel-jersey , but he isn’t even the top CB drafted to the Lions anymore. Deandre Baker popped up in two mocks, although one involved a trade-down scenario. The local pick of Rashan Gary remains somewhat common among mocks, while there are still a couple of Devin White picks, although not nearly as much as there were a few weeks ago.

Update: The Bengals are hoping Nick Vigil’s knee injury is just a sprain. Though Womens Carlos Dunlap Jersey , not much is known as of now. The same is true of Darqueze Dennard’s shoulder injury. The Bengals and Steelers are notorious for banging each other up. The Steelers have suffered a few injuries of their own and the Bengals have their first addition to that list with linebacker Nick Vigil. Vigil has been ruled out of the game with a left knee injury. That’s a pretty bad sign for the Bengals’ linebacker depth.Vigil was hit with a block and went down on a first quarter play. It led to 20 yard James Conner run. Vigil went down and was quickly met by the trainers on the field. He was seen going to the locker room nearly immediately.Vigil was replaced by Vincent Rey initially, but we will likely see Hardy Nickerson Jr. and Jordan Evans as well if Vigil will miss an extended amount of time. This would be a big loss, as Vigil leads the NFL in stops (tackles causing an offensive failure), according to Pro Football Focus. We will update as more information becomes available. Ryan Tannehill tried to give his receiver a little more time to get open, but Geno Atkins was having none of it.The Bengals tackle closed quickly and smacked into the Dolphins quarterback as he released an incomplete pass to Kenny Stills.Just the start of a long day for Miami's overmatched blockers.Atkins had two more sacks and three quarterback hits during Cincinnati's 27-17 win on Sunday that was the direct result of the Bengals' defense. Tannehill was sacked twice in the fourth quarter and had three turnovers, including an interception and fumble that were returned for the decisive touchdowns.Atkins was in the middle of it, forcing Tannehill to stray from the pocket and become vulnerable to hits that led to the turnovers."He's unbelievable," first-year defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said. "On one sack he beat the guy so fast I don't know what you ask the quarterback to do. He just does stuff you don't teach."Atkins has six sacks in five games Womens William Jackson Jersey , tied with the Texans' J.J. Watt and the Steelers' T.J. Watt for the league lead. No other interior NFL lineman has more than three sacks. The Bengals (4-1) host the Steelers (2-2-1) on Sunday in an important game for the AFC North.A victory would end Cincinnati's run of six straight losses to the Steelers and provide a cushion — the Bengals have already beaten the Ravens (3-2) at Paul Brown Stadium. A seventh straight loss to Pittsburgh would leave the race wide open.Atkins has made the biggest impact on a defense that leads the league with three returns for touchdowns. He's off to one of his best starts after getting a four-year contract extension through 2022. His best season was 2012, when he had 12陆 sacks and forced four fumbles. His 67 sacks rank third in franchise history and are the most by a Bengals interior lineman. Atkins has led NFL interior linemen in sacks three times and tied for the lead twice. His push from the middle of the line forces quarterbacks to throw early or scramble out of the pocket, making plays break down."Geno had quite a few collisions with the quarterback (on Sunday)," coach Marvin Lewis said. "He knocks him down, and he stays on his feet. That's a good way to do it, I guess. He can do it with that kind of velocity."Atkins is a leading example of how shorter defensive linemen can get through and around much bigger blockers. The 6-foot-1, 300-pound tackle can use his signature "bull rush" move on linemen who aren't set for it, driving them backward into the quarterback.Atkins is one of the quietest Bengals http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-billy-price-jersey , declining interviews and saying little during team meetings. After he signed his contract extension, Atkins said during a rare media session that he realized early in his nine-year career that his size can be a big advantage in the NFL."Short, stocky, strong guys — we have the leverage, strength and power," Atkins said. "The bull rush is really my will against your will."Austin came to the Bengals from Detroit, where Ndamukong Suh created problems for blockers in much the same way. He appreciates how Atkins can force offenses to change their blocking plans."He just can wreck the game," Austin said. "It's like when I had Suh in '14. You can't single-block the guy. And if you do Womens Jake Fisher Jersey , you do at your own risk. He is tenacious. He's got different moves. He's strong. He's quick. Boy, he's fun to watch."The only thing he doesn't do is talk very much. Concluding his media session after the contract extension, he said he would slip back into his customary silence."I'm not that interesting to talk to," he said.MORE PRIME TIME: The Bengals' game at Kansas City on Sunday, Oct. 21 was moved to prime time, giving Cincinnati a pair of night games this season. The Bengals beat the Ravens 34-23 on Thursday, Sept. 13. The Chiefs now have six night games this season. The Bengals are 6-14 in prime time since 2011, including 0-5 on Sunday Womens Carl Lawson Jersey , 2-5 on Monday, 4-3 on Thursday and 0-1 on Saturday night.ROSTER MOVE: The Bengals waived running back Thomas Rawls, a fourth-year player who signed as a free agent on Sept. 19 after Joe Mixon suffered a knee injury. White Star Lotulelei Jerseys , host John Boccacino is joined by co-host Anthony Marino to, among other topics, break down the biggest needs of the Buffalo Bills heading into the NFL Draft. Boccacino and Marino both agree that the offensive line, which allowed 41 sacks and struggled to open holes for the running game (Buffalo’s running backs averaged only 3.6 yards per rush outside of Josh Allen scrambles) is the area of biggest concern heading into April’s NFL Draft. The only guarantees to be back on the team and serving in key roles, in my humble opinion, are tackle Dion Dawkins and guard Wyatt Teller, with center Russell Bodine Star Lotulelei Jerseys 2019 , guards Vlad Ducasse, Jeremiah Sirles and Ike Boettger, and tackle Conor McDermott all under contract for 2019. This is definitely not a position of strength for the Bills. The Bills could take a chance and bring back unrestricted free agent John Miller, but even if they do, look for the team to shore up the line in the draft. The first of Buffalo’s 10 picks comes at selection No. 9, which could be a prime spot for the Bills to snag one of the talented offensive linemen in this draft class. It could also be used to upgrade Allen’s offensive playmakers, with both wide receiver and tight end a pressing need heading into the draft. Of course White Russell Bodine Jerseys , Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane has been known to make a trade or two, and the Bills could always move down from No. 9 and collect even more draft capital. After the break, our podcasters gave their thoughts on which veterans could be among the “surprise” cuts. Boccacino feels the time is right to move on from tight end Charles Clay, who has had an up-and-down four years in Buffalo and can be cut with “only” a $4.5 million cap hit. Marino points to running back LeSean McCoy or Ducasse as cut candidates, while both think the team would be wise to at least think about moving on from defensive end Trent Murphy, who carries a $8.481 million cap hit next year. Check out our podcast for thoughts on these topics and more on the latest Billieve: a Buffalo Bills Fan Podcast.SoundCloud | iTunes | Google Play | Stitcher | TuneIn | Podbay | PodfanaticSubscribe, rate Russell Bodine Jerseys 2019 , and review our Buffalo Rumblings podcast now and leave your comments below. You can also download an MP3 version of the podcast by signing up for a free account at SoundCloud. We’re looking for feedback and want to hear from you! When Jets defensive lineman Henry Anderson responded to Bills head coach Sean McDermott saying his hit on Bills kicker Steven Hauschka after a blocked field goal has no place in the game of football, he said that he would have gotten chewed out by special teams coach Brant Boyer if Hauschka had gone on to make a tackle on the play.Anderson also called the hit a “totally fair and legal play” in response to those who thought it was dirty. Boyer didn’t respond to the hypothetical about Hauschka making the tackle and didn’t call it a dirty hit, but he sounded like a man who would feel differently if the shoe was on the other foot.“I’d be mad, too, to be honest with you, if they hit my kicker like that,” Boyer said White Phillip Gaines Jerseys , via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. “I’d be pretty upset. But do I think it was a dirty play? No. I think it’s borderline.”Anderson was not penalized for the play, but he could still be disciplined for the league if they feel the play was somewhere beyond the borderline.

to watch Your New York Giants are in action Friday night (7 p.m. ET/NFLN Authentic George Asafo-Adjei Jersey , WNBC) at Ford Field in Detroit as they take on the Detroit Lions in Week 2 of the 2018 NFL preseason. The regular season is creeping closer, which means each week and each game is gaining importance. Here is why you should be watching tonight’s game.Starters will play moreCoach Pat Shurmur is evasive when it comes to playing time. Still, it is logical to believe we should see more of the Giants first-teamers vs. Detroit. Offensive starters played only two series vs. the Cleveland Browns, with defensive starters getting a third series after surrendering a Cleveland touchdown. Don’t be surprised to see some starters play into the second quarter Friday night.Davis Webb vs. Kyle LaulettaIs the door open, at least a crack, for Lauletta to steal the No. 2 quarterback job that has been assumed for months to belong to Webb? Maybe, but probably not. Yet. Webb had a rough preseason opener vs. Cleveland, while Lauletta played well. No matter what, it is fun to watch these two young quarterbacks develop George Asafo-Adjei Jersey Boys , and compete. I have said before and will say again, though, this is a long-term competition and not a three- or four-week one.Position battles Chris and Dan did excellent offensive and defensive “what to watch” breakdowns looking at the various position battles. You can find those here:Giants vs. Lions: Giants offensive players who need strong performancesGiants at Lions: 11 Giants with the most to prove on defenseI just want to highlight a few of the position battles, and players, I am most interested in seeing Friday night.Wayne Gallman — The second-year running back has been the third-team back behind Saquon Barkley and Jonathan Stewart. Coach Pat Shurmur said this week he has been “gaining an appreciation” for Gallman. With no Barkley tonight, Gallman has a big opportunity to force the Giants to consider getting him more snaps once the regular season starts.Amba Etta-Tawo — A spring and early-summer sensation, Etta-Tawo drew a big pass interference call vs. the Browns last week but had no catches. He would seem to be on the bubble between 53-man roster and a likely practice squad spot, and could use a big game.Starting offensive line — The revamped group didn’t play badly against the Browns, but there were a couple of communication issues picking up stunts and blitzes. With a little more game-planning going into this game Infant George Asafo-Adjei Jersey , will that issue improve? Also, to be honest I’m still looking for Jon Halapio to show me why the Giants believe he can be their starting center.Backup offensive linemen — We talked about this position battle earlier in the week. The snap counts tonight might give us an indication of who might be in and which guys should maybe make sure they don’t sign any long-term leases.A.J. Francis vs. Robert Thomas — Good friend and Giants beat writer Patricia Traina said the other day on ‘Locked on Giants’ she thinks there is only room for one of these guys on the 53-man roster. With Josh Mauro suspended for the first four games and R.J. McIntosh still on the Active/Non-Football Illness list I believe there is room for both. If nothing else, though, they are competing for snaps as part of the defensive line rotation. Can Curtis Riley grab his chance? — After two years as a backup corner with the Tennessee Titans, Riley came to the Giants without high expectations. With Darian Thompson not really impressing, and now missing time with a hamstring, Riley has a chance tonight to cement his status as the starting free safety.Backup cornerbacks — Who’s it gonna be? Donte Deayon is frittering away his chance as he deals with a hamstring injury. William Gay, B.W. Webb, Grant Haley George Asafo-Adjei Jersey Draft , Leonard Johnson and Chris Lewis-Harris all remain in the fray when it comes to figuring the corners behind Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple. EDTShareTweetShareShareTop 10 Patriots Draft Fits #2: Mississippi State EDGE Montez SweatBrian Spurlock-USA TODAY SportsThe Patriots edge rusher position is about in similar shape to the DT postion. The team has veterans and rotation players manning the position, but could use an infusion of young talent at the position. The Patriots attempted to add Derek Rivers to the position two years ago, but it hasn’t worked out so far due to an ACL injury suffered in Rivers’ rookie year. The team also has Keionta Davis, who saw less and less time on the field further down the season. The team could very well stick with their approach of picking up mid-round plug and play guys who had moderate ceilings as it’s worked in the past. However there is one prospect at the position that could be an intriguing add in the first round, it’s Montez Sweat from Mississippi State.Combine DataHeight: 6’6”Weight: 260Arm: 35 3/4”Hand: 10 1/2”40: 4.41225-lb Bench Reps: 21Vertical: 36”Broad Jump: 10’5”5-10-5 Shuttle: 4.293-Cone: 7.00StrengthsPrototypical size and length for the positionElite SEC productionPlug and play starterAdept hand fighterBends around the edge wellContains mobile QBs in the pocketAthletic enough to drop into coverage when askedWeaknessesReportedly has heart condition that’s given teams concernsWill need to add muscle weight to his frame to be sturdier vs. runPad level and leverage at times will be an issueWhy the Patriots Will Draft HimThe team does not need a starter at the position, but given the depth at the position of moderate ceiling players the team should not be afraid to take Sweat if he falls out of the Top 20. Sweat has ideal measurables for an edge rusher and is athletic enough to drop into coverage. From a scheme standpoint, Sweat can fit both a stand-up rusher role in a 3-4 or a hand-in-the-dirt linemen in a 4-3. The Patriots typically like to have edge guys who fit both schemes to disguise their ability to rush the QB. There is some upside in the kicking game as Sweat would be on the FG block unit, an edge blocker on FG unit (like Chandler Jones), as well as kick/punt coverage. The 4-down upside is something the Patriots should consider when thinking about a trade up or picking even at 32.Why the Patriots Will Not Draft HimSweat has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: a heart condition in which the heart is abnormally thick. The problem is not believed to be as severe as the case with Maurice Hurst went from Top 15 prospect to a 5th round pick. Some teams have taken Sweat off their draft boards, and I have zero idea if the Patriots are one of those teams. Sweat was allowed to work out at the combine vs. Hurst, who was shut down. The problem has not affected him in his Mississippi State career. The only other issue is a checkered off-the-field list from his days at Michigan State that had him kicked out of the program. The Patriots took a chance on J.C. Jackson last season, so I don’t believe that will disqualify him as a fit with New England. The other major reason is he simply won’t be available. Teams sitting in the late teens and early 20s might be salivating to draft a player of his talent and possibly execute a trade to get a player with DPOY upside. Who He Has to Beat Out: Derek Rivers, Keionta DavisRookie Year ProjectionSweat would start out 3rd in the rotation behind Michael Bennett and Deatrich Wise Jr. The Patriots would try to get him on the field on special teams and as a designated pass rusher on passing downs. Sweat’s pass rushing upside already makes him capable of being a quality contributor as a rookie on the defensive front with more upside to be had in future years. Sweat will require a bit of time in the weight room to bulk up from 260 to 270 to be sturdier on the edge vs. the run although he’s not a liability in that area either. Long Term ProjectionSweat would be the highest upside pass rusher the Patriots added since drafting Chandler Jones 21st overall in 2012. By the end of Year 2, Sweat will become the top edge rusher in the defense and the key matchup weapon against the weakness of the opposing OL. I’m curious to see if he can rush inside, not necessarily with his hand in the dirt, similar to how the Patriots utilized Dont’a Hightower and Kyle Van Noy in the Super Bowl. Against run formations and personnel, Sweat would play exclusively on the edge.Grade: 5/5 StarterRound: 1stIf Sweat makes it past the 20th pick, the Patriots have to consider a potential trade up to land a potential game-changing talent to the defense. Sweat is a player with Top 10 measurables and tape, and would otherwise be a Top 10 pick if not for the heart condition. While the Patriots are not starving for a starter, they could certainly upgrade a position that has a need 2 years down the road. The 5th year option would give the Patriots 5 years of cost control for a potential elite player. (Editor’s Note: the following is not intended to be taken seriously, at all.)L.A., come in! Great to see you again so soon. Then explain this:More people in LA watched the Patriots than the Rams in the conference championshipsWhat, did the Rams game start too early on Sunday to shake off your hangover with a $78 mimosa and avocado toast?Actually, that makes perfect sense, now that you guys probably all had to trade in all of your Miami Heat LeBron James jerseys for Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. Does queso still make everything better? Does a studio apartment in LA still cost as much as a year at Duke?? The world would be a better place if you’d just go ahead and jump into real estate like you want to, Suh, although surely you’d find a way to stomp on someone there too.Aqib TalibActually, never mind, Aqib rules. Carry on.Your terrible owner ripped a team from a great sports townIt really, truly takes a lot for us hardy New Englanders to feel bad for St. Louis, who, not coincidentally, is another team Boston teams have historically barbecued on the biggest stage, like this........and this!....and OH! Can’t forget this!Ah, memories...this must be what it’s like to look back through your high school yearbook if you were actually popular and good at sports or something.....but good god, if there was ever a man that’s enough of a combination of Gordon Gekko, Scarface, and every bad guy from Captain Planet to make New England collectively go “Damn, even St. Louis doesn’t deserve THIS”...it’s this Bond villain right here.Jake Roth-USA TODAY SportsWell, Bond villain or associate vice president of product development at Initech, I guess. It’s already heartbreaking enough to watch your team pack up shop and move to a bigger city in a blatant cash-grab sellout, and then this soulless piece of rotting foie gras told St Louis they were too poor and they could all go cry into their saltine-cracker pizza because he didn’t need them anymore. You know what, though? Let’s let Stan tell you himself, because fairness:Got that? The man who’s worth $8.5 billion dollars and owns Arsenal in the English Premier League, the now-Los-Angeles Rams, the Colorado Avalanche, and the Denver Nuggets isn’t going to just sit there and be VICTIMIZED by *checks notes* his football team playing smack dab in the middle of downtown St. Louis in his hometown state when he could be printing even MORE money somewhere else.Robert Kraft is an absolute saint for getting through any NFL owner’s meeting without slapping this guy upside his head with a hockey stick any time he opens his mouth. You guys needed to get Brandin Cooks from us before you even sniffed the Super BowlFun fact: while Tom Brady and New England re-set the Super Bowl passing record in February 2018 mostly without Brandin Cooks, the L.A. Rams couldn’t put up more than 13 points in the playoffs last year without him.Observe!^The real miracle there is that someone somehow got 8 minutes of highlights out of that game.13 points, against basically the same Falcons defense that Tom Brady wreaked unspeakable terrors on while leading a 31-point comeback. Yikes. But hey, all your draft picks can’t be Cooper Kupps, right, so why not strike a friendly deal for a BAMF wide receiver with the team you know is basically the final boss in the AFC and very well may be the team you see in the Super Bowl *if* you somehow make it that far? What could possibly go wrong! And look at the results - Jared Goff threw for almost 1,000 yards more than he did in 2017, tossed about 70 more complete passes, his completion percentage went up almost 3% Andre Tippett Jersey , and he threw 4 more touchdowns! Now peep Brandin Cooks’ numbers from this year:1,204 yards, 80 receptions, 5 touchdowns, 68.4% catch percentage.Probably just a coincidence. The Rams were *supposed* to beat the Patriots by 14 points in 2001For those of you who aren’t gamblers among us, first of all, congratulations on actually keeping all your money, and second, here’s what this means:The Greatest Show on Turf, with MVP and all-time great Kurt Warner slinging the rock and a receiving corps so loaded even your Madden Ultimate Team is like DAAAAAAAAAAAANG BRO, were supposed to beat this pathetic little bunch of dorks with a sixth-round rookie QB and a kicker that played for NFL Europe that aren’t even from a real city by two or more touchdowns.TL;DR - this game was supposed to be a BLOODBATH. A boat race. And basically a three-hour coronation for the greatest offense in NFL history! For reference purposes, in the 2013-2014 season when the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning smashed all the records the ‘07 Patriots set, they were favored by 2.5 in the Super Bowl. And then you get hit in the mouth a few times, throw a few picks, and leave Tom Brady A FULL MINUTE AND 30 SECONDS on the clock in the 4th quarter, and every last Ram on that team will swear up and down that they got cheated out of a championship. To quote the immortal Sean Connery, losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and...well, you know. The Rams somehow COMPLETELY screwed up their massive treasure chest of picks from the RGIII tradeFile this one under the same category as my all-time favorite Belichick-in-a-nutshell line:Imagine, if you will: you’ve already drafted Sam Bradford at quarterback with the first overall pick and paid him the biggest rookie contract ever. Then, your abysmal 2-14 season nets you the 2nd overall pick in the 2012 draft. THEN, a team even dumber than you calls you up, basically gives you a blank check for the #2 pick and says “name your price”.Now imagine having three first-rounders and a second-rounder AND a couple other dumb teams (sup Cowboys?) just dying to trade up and let you rack up even MORE picks to build your team into a decade-long NFC powerhouse and doing...this?I legitimately am at a loss for what’s more impressive - the strikeouts, or the “even a broken clock is right twice a day” finally drafting someone good and then...trading them or just letting them go to free agency. We did get this magically delicious moment out of it, though, so, chin up, kids, there’s always that.Jared Goff is a system QBSomething we here a lot around these (frozen) parts is that a TRULY GREAT quarterback is transcendent enough that no matter what coach or offensive scheme they play in, they rise above and post rockstar season after rockstar season, leaving defense after defense sobbing and begging for mercy.Peyton Manning, they say. Great no matter where he played.Brett Favre. Same.Heck, Michael Vick did it with his arm and his wheels.(Hey, don’t get mad at us. We’re not the ones who looked at Mike Vick in 2009 like “You know what, you’re cool Womens Irving Fryar Jersey , let’s just bury the hatchet”)The Goffster, on the other hand...oh boy. Where to begin?2016: 1,089 yards, 5 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 54.6% completion percentage(To be fair, he didn’t start until November, but still. WOOF.)Sean McVay and his baller-in-2013 haircut show up: Heard you guys needed a coach?2017 Goff: 3,804 yards, 28 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 62.1% completion percentage2018 Goff: 4,688 yards, 32 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 64.9% completion percentageSorry Jared, you’re doing great and everything, but nobody will believe you are TRULY ELITE because all your fantasy-gold numbers are obviously the Sean McVay system giving you easy throws every single down that basically let you play Thanksgiving Turkey Bowl football every week, that’s how this works. Just ask the ultimate system quarterback, Tom Brady. I mean, Tom Brady hasn’t even beaten all 32 NFL teams. SMH.Last but certainly not least....GOOD GOD THAT’S GUNNER THE SAINTS FAN’S MUSIC!To try and restore some sense of balance to the Force, we enlisted the services of Gunner the Saints Fan, who’s been kicked in the dick by unfathomable last-minute shenanigans for the past two years in a row. The man made an entire pot of legit home-recipe crawfish gumbo and bought enough Airheads to feed a pee-wee soccer team, and then the universe goes and...well, you know.Take it away, Gunner!Who Dat Nation and Pats Nation, gatebreauxs for life, man. Gatebreauxs for life.Oh, and one more thing...IN-N-OUT Burger sucksOooooooooh, Animal Style!Taking the most basic fast food and putting salad dressing on it, huh? A stoner in Burlington, Vermont could figure that one out. Also, everyone else in the entire United States and most of Europe has cracked the code to at least C-minus French Fries except...for you. Do better.

The idea here is to build a generic Big Board reflecting the community’s view of this year’s draft class regardless of the Jets’ (or any other team’s) particular needs. So for instance, the Jets do not need a QB this year, but that should not prevent you from placing a QB high on the Big Board. Each day we will close the previous day’s poll and the candidate with the most votes will be added to the GGN Big Board. In the event of a tie vote the tie will be broken by surname in alphabetical order. By the time the draft rolls around we should have enough players on our Big Board to cover two rounds of the draft. In the event I have made an egregious omission and a name you think should be on the poll is not there you can write in candidates in the comments section. If a player gets support in the comments section I’ll add him to the next day’s poll.Try not to get overly frustrated if your guy isn’t being voted to the top of the board. We all have different views and what we’re looking for here is a composite of the best players in the community’s collective mind. Your views may or may not coincide with the community’s, and either way that’s OK.So let’s get to it. Today we vote for the #48 prospect on the 2019 crowd sourced GGN Big Board. Who will it be? Vote early, vote often, and let’s hear who you think are the best players in this draft. I knew the Jets offensive line had a bad game against Jacksonville, as expected considering the absurdly talented defensive front they were competing against. However, it did not occur to me while watching the game live that the line was as terrible as they turned out to look when rewatching the tape. This was an atrocious outing - in my opinion, the third consecutive week they have regressed. And, this was the largest regression.Let’s dive in!Previous editions: Pre 1, Pre 2, Pre 3, Pre 4, W1-DET, W2-MIA, W3-CLEAs I will always mention, it is impossible to capture everything with the stats, but with this series I hope to capture the most impactful plays accumulated by each linemen, both positive and negative, to help better our perspective on their production levels. Every single snap does matter, and here we will only be grading a small portion of those snaps, but this data can still help shape our opinions on players more properly and truly. Do not use these numbers as final judgement, but as useful evidence. Here’s what I’ve been tracking:Stuffs (runs for 2 yards or less and no first down) allowed in the run gameRushing first downs assisted“Setup runs” assisted (which I now define as a 5+ yard pickup on 1st-3rd down that did not result in a first down). Despite not resulting in a first down, these kinds of pickups are still positive plays that deserve to be tracked.Sacks allowedQB hits allowedQB pressures allowed (pressure counts now include all throws affected by pressure, forced rollouts/dodged defenders, and forced throwaways)Deflections allowed (occurrences when allowing the currently engaged defender to bat/deflect a pass at the line)Open field assists (blocking assists for significant extra yardage/first down by any player, OL or skill position, in the pass game while a pass receiver has the football)Pass blocking snaps (UPDATE: Pass blocking snaps now counted for all players rather than just the base five linemen. Team pass attempts + sacks)Penalties (Total accepted, yards, first downs/scores wiped out, and declined)Here are the numbers for the Jets in Week 4! Shield your eyes! Some of my takeaways:It all fell apart for Brandon Shell. While his first three games were on the whole very solid, he was walking on thin ice over the past two weeks, allowing 3 pressures in each game without being tagged for any sacks or hits. The walls finally caved in. Shell played the worst game of any lineman this season. He was getting abused on the edge by Dante Fowler and Yannick Ngakoue. I tagged Shell for a sack, a hit, and a whopping 6 pressures Trumaine Johnson Jersey , for a total of 8 pressures that is the most I’ve tagged a Jet for in a single game throughout the entire preseason and the first quarter of the regular season.Fowler and Ngakoue were getting it done in all sorts of ways against Shell - inside, outside, speed power. In particular, Shell was absolutely decimated by the inside spin move, especially by Fowler. It was quite a fall for Shell. He had Sam running for his life all game. The entire line struggled. All in all, by my count, they allowed 21 total pressures across 37 official Darnold dropbacks. That’s a horrifyingly terrible rate of pressure, regardless of who the opponent is. The only Jet lineman to allow less than 2 pressures was Spencer Long, who gave up an awful sack on a missed stunt. The Jets barely bothered to run the ball, making only 14 attempts, tied for the 7th lowest total on the season through four weeks. When they did, it was ineffective, as they ran for only 2.4 yards per carry and compiled a ghastly 9:1 stuff-to-first down ratio. Long continues to be boom-or-bust (with more bust so far) in this phase of the game while Brian Winters is simply becoming a major liability. To this point, the Jets are the only team in the league with 2 games in which they averaged less than 2.5 yards per carry.Shoutout to Chris Herndon and Jordan Leggett. I decided to start tallying pass protection snaps for skill position players, and it turns out Herndon has had a perfectly clean 11 pass pro reps so far. Solid start in that phase for him despite his shaky run blocking. As for Leggett, the opposite is true. He hasn’t played a role in pass protection, but I now have him at 4 rushing assists and 0 stuffs allowed so far.FILMI’m not going to say a whole lot about this first clip, other than that it is a perfect microcosm of the offensive line’s performance in this game. You saw Brandon Shell get pummeled in the clip above, luckily Dante Fowler tripped and could not create any pressure. Let’s focus a bit more on Shell, who as mentioned had a monstrosity of a game. Here, Shell gets too high against Ngakoue and allows him to easily rip through and dip underneath to get the hit on Darnold. This time, Ngakoue picks up a sack against Shell. Again lined up out wide as the 9-technique, this time Ngakoue powers right through Shell as he gets his hips extremely low to the ground, gets beneath the pads of Shell, and engages with a powerful first punch. The power game has always been Shell’s weakness due to an inability to generate power from the lower body up and drive defenders. Just a sheer speed/power win from Ngakoue. On a positive note, Ngakoue tried this same move again a few times later in the game and Shell was better prepared for it. He makes strong first contact this time, then gets underneath and showcases good balance to hold off Ngakoue’s power. Here we’ll wrap up with Shell and transition into the next issue I’d like to discuss: the Jets cannot stop stunts for anything. With the Shell, you can see him toasted by Dante Fowler with the inside spin move I mentioned earlier. Fowler beat him with this a trio of times. On the inside, Spencer Long has zero feel for the stunt as Malik Jackson flies through for a free sack. Back-to-back games allowing a sack for Long.Another pressure on a stunt as Darnold is forced to throw it away. This time it’s on the right side against Shell and Winters. Abry Jones attacks the B gap eating up both as Dante Fowler runs free up the middle. The Jags also stunted on the left side but the Jets pick it up with 3 blockers against 2 rushers. Here, the Jags run the same exact stunt on the offense’s right side. Winters picks it up correctly.Kelvin Beachum wasn’t off the hook in this game, allowing three pressures of his own. This one is about as bad as it gets without any contact. It’s reminiscent of a Manu Ginobili eurostep. Yannick Ngakoue just gives one jab outside and is able to easily force Darnold outside of the pocket with a free lane inside. Money throw by Darnold, by the way. It’s fitting that the Jets allowed a safety in this game. I’m indifferent to this play call as the Jets run an outside zone this far backed up. Brian Winters immediately hits the second level and lets the defensive tackle (#99 Marcell Dareus) leak into the backfield. It could be a personal blunder but I think this just might be his assignment on this play, which obviously doesn’t make sense. The main culprit is Kelvin Beachum who lets Calais Campbell shoot the gap effortlessly. Poor blocking but a great play by a 6’8 man who is not supposed to be able to move like that.Isaiah Crowell has had an appalling past couple of games in pass protection, allowing 3 pressures and a sack on his past 4 pass blocking snaps. That’s more total pressures allowed in two games than I’ve tagged the rest of the Jets skill position players for throughout the entire season combined. This effort is embarrassing. There is literally nothing on display here that any coach would ever teach a running back to do while pass protecting. The Jets are going to continue to be one of the league’s worst rushing teams (they are 26th in yards per game and yards per attempt) if their interior linemen keep getting blown off the ball like Winters does in the first clip and Long in the second. To finish on a positive note, I’m becoming very impressed with Jordan Leggett’s blocking ability, which is a stunner. He scored his first career touchdown against the Jaguars, but perhaps more notable was his key block on Calais Campbell to facilitate the Jets’ only rushing first down of the game. I featured him last week assisting with a block on Myles Garrett. The Jets did not even use an extra blocker for most of this game, while they consistently were beaten by 4-man rushes. I counted the Jets as using an extra blocker on only 5 snaps, and they still yielded pressure on 4 of those. If your offensive line can’t keep the quarterback clean when it has the man advantage, that’s just another overarching issue, but I thought the Jets should have given Sam Darnold more protection in this game. This was the least they’ve used their backs and tight ends in pass protection, against an otherworldly front they were getting owned by. That was a bit of a head-scratcher.Here is how the Jets are stacking up through one quarter of the year!
