With the return of Jimmy Smith, Baltimore could seemingly handle the absence of Averett, but Pierce has a more significant role on the defense. In the two games he has missed, the Ravens’ run defense has been inconsistent. De’Lance Turner (hamstring) and Tim Williams (hamstring) were limited during Wednesday’s session. However, the positive news is that Williams returned to the field after missing every practice last week. If Turner’s hamstring holds him out for Week 6, the Ravens may have to make an additional roster move. However, Jackson is the quarterback going forward and Crabtree’s game does not mesh well with the young signal-caller.Given his inconsistencies as a passer, the Ravens need to surround Jackson with playmakers capable of creating separation and gaining yards after the catch. Crabtree isn’t particularly good at either of these things.Baltimore has an opportunity to get younger at the position and potentially acquire some building blocks for the future.
