World of Goo, Audiosurf lead IGF noms

Today, representatives with the Independent Games Festival announced its Main Competition finalist nominees for 2007. This year's categories are the Seumas McNally Grand Prize, that offers a $20,000 prize purse, along with $2,500 individual prizes for Warmane Gold Best Web Browser Game, Design Innovation Award, Excellence in Visual Art, Excellence in Audio, and Technical Excellence.
Finalist nominees were selected from the pool of greater than 170 entrants, in line with IGF organizers. Leading the short list with this year's finalists are 2D Boy's physics-heavy building game World of Goo and Invisible Handlebar's musically inspired puzzle racing game Audiosurf with three nominations an item.
Organized with the CMP Game Group, the IGF would be the game industry's respond to independent film festivals including Sundance, and traditionally runs in tandem using the Game Developers Conference. This year, the annual industry-focused schmoozefest will run from February 18-22, together with the IGF awards ceremony currently slated for February 20 with the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
