The debate over offering North Korea unconditional talks reflects the differences within the Trump administration as it runs out of time to prevent North Korea from perfecting a nuclear-tipped missile that can strike the U.S. mainland. President Donald Trump has vowed to prevent such capability, with military action if necessary.


So far, U.S.-led sanctions on North Korea and diplomatic isolation haven't compelled Kim Jong Un's government to stop its nuclear and missile tests, or to seek negotiations.


Asked Friday if he supported unconditional talks, Trump did not answer directly.


"Well, we're going to see what happens with North Korea. We have a lot of support. There are a lot of nations that agree with us — almost everybody," Trump told reporters.


"We'd like to have Russia's help — very important," said Trump. He raised it in a Thursday phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.


On the issue of starting talks with North Korea, Tillerson's tone was significantly different from three days earlier.


On Tuesday, Tillerson said at the Atlantic Council think tank in Washington that "we are ready to have the first meeting without preconditions." He had also called it "unrealistic" to expect North Korea to enter talks ready to relinquish a weapons of mass destruction program it invested so much in developing, although that remained the ultimate goal.


The White House quickly distanced itself from Tillerson's remarks. On Wednesday, a National Security Council spokesperson said North Korea must not only first refrain from provocations but take "sincere and meaningful actions toward denuclearization" for talks to happen. The spokesperson, who was not authorized to be quoted by name and requested anonymity, said that given North Korea's most recent missile test, now was not the time for talks.


Tillerson and Trump have appeared to clash before on North Korea, amid questions about the former ExxonMobil executive's future as top diplomat. In October, Trump said Tillerson was "wasting his time" trying to negotiate with the North. Trump's tweet followed Tillerson's talk about Washington maintaining back-channel communications with Pyongyang.


Asked Friday if he and Trump were on the same page, Tillerson denied they were at odds: "The president's policy on North Korea is quite clear and there's no daylight at all between the president's policy and the pursuit of that policy."


He said U.S. communication channels with North Korea remain open and the North knows that.


"They know where the door is. They know where to walk through that door when they want to talk," he told reporters.




Tillerson said the North's growing capabilities were a "direct threat to our security and the security of the entire world. We do not regard this claim as an empty threat."


He said the U.S. does not want war, but "will use all necessary measures to defend itself against North Korean aggression." He said "our hope remains that diplomacy will produce a resolution."

You can’t blame Jeff Heuerman that Case Keenum never saw him. He was right in front of him and a completion to him would have meant a 1st down. The more I’ve watched this play, the more impressed I am by all 3 receiver’s play. They did all they could to carry the offense. Demaryius Thomas is another Bronco that showed a ton of fight. Emmanuel Sanders “taunt” got a lot of the media narrative about the game and deservedly so, but his effort shows up every single week. Courtland Sutton’s playing on a bum wheel and still showing all the promise you could dare hope for from a rookie. What went right? Lindsay showed up. Not sure why you’d isolate Matt Paradis on Suh by choice Bill, but you do you. The Broncos running game was mostly stifled by the Rams’ D, but much like Keenum’s 322-2-1 statline Youth Jake Butt Jersey , the number’s do a poor job of telling the full story. Los Angeles routinely stacked the box and dared Case Keenum to beat them. Musgrave did his part in helping them. When the Broncos ran it was routinely out of 12 and 21 personnel. While Andy Janovich has been a stud, it hardly made sense to telegraph your intent like that. Then there were plays like the one above, with the Broncos running Duo-concept.If you’ve read my preseason look at the Musgrave offense you already know that Duo is a play designed to get vertical push off the line of scrimmage in order to create gaps. In a week where the opponent doesn’t feature two All-Pro defensive tackles, it’d be a great call. Even with the two studs a double team may mean positive yardage.Instead the call left Matt Paradis isolated on Ndamukong Suh, who shucked the Broncos center like corn to force Philip Lindsay to bounce away from the hole. Credit has to go to the rookie because he found positive yardage. He and Royce Freeman both found themselves trying to outrun the questionable game plan and Max Garcia’s limitations versus Los Angeles. It’s going to be crucial for all 3 aspects I mentioned above to come through this week. While the Cardinals are 1-5 and coming off a painful 17-27 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, they have the pieces necessary to beat the Broncos if they come out flat or unprepared. How can Denver insure they finish the week with a win?Key #1 Manage the Down and DistanceThe Cardinals D has forced multiple QBs into their worst games of the year so far. If you watched the Broncos games against the New York Jets or Baltimore Ravens you know that Case Keenum has struggled against pressure packages this season. He’s had a bad habit of locking on to one receiver, rolling out too early, or eating a bad sack. While it was expected that he’d decline from his 2017 career year in this regard, he’s fallen far short of expectations in this department so far. With that in mind, it’s absolutely critical to the Broncos fortunes that Musgrave and Joseph keep the Broncos out of predictable passing situations. This Cardinals defense did their part to beat the Vikings. They held Kirk Cousins to a season low 233 yards, sacking him four times and forcing two turnovers, both of which came on third downs.Most of the time the Cardinals will run a 4 man line with Chandler Jones serving as an amoeba of sorts. He’s their best edge rusher but has the versatility to drop in coverage at times. On passing downs however, they utilize all sorts of looks. Arizona won’t hesitate to send corners, safeties, or the entire kitchen sink. With Ron Leary’s injury, Max Garcia steps into the starting lineup full time. He has experience at right guard but has spent most of his career on the left. That matters. It also means the Broncos will have two backups playing key roles as it looks like Jared Veldheer will miss another game. Key #2 Make the Rookie Running Backs AstronautsMusgrave would do well to call a few outside zone plays this week. If the Cardinals defense has one big weakness, it’s that they’re second and third level defenders have been poor run defenders. That may sound familiar http://www.broncoscheapauthenticstore.com/darian-stewart-jersey-cheap , but to accomplish Key #1 Musgrave has to go to the running well early and often.The Duo concept should also find success. The Cardinals defense is notably susceptible to runs off the right end, where they finished among the worst 3 teams in the league through 6 weeks by Football Outsiders Adjusted Line Yards. What’s more, Arizona is also bad at defending passes to running backs so Lindsay should find work there as well.Utilizing outside zone to the right in order to both push that advantage and potentially launch Freeman and Lindsay past the first level of the defense would serve 3 purposes. It’d protect Keenum from Arizona’s blitz scheme, it would play to the Broncos strengths while attacking the Cardinal’s weaknesses and it would limit Mike McCoy’s opportunities to settle his rookie QB into a groove. Key #3 Hold up Against the Run, but Respect Play Action Even with a weak running attack, Rosen is dangerous on play action passes. Through 6 games David Johnson is averaging 3.2 yards a carry. Denver running backs are averaging 3.4 yards per carry BEFORE contact this year. That doesn’t mean Johnson isn’t dangerous, of course. With the way the secondary has played against the run this year every opposing running back presents a challenge, but Arizona’s offensive line may be the least talented group in the league west of New York. They’ll also be a M.A.S.H unit Thursday. Injury Aftermath: Week 6 | Football OutsidersThe Broncos still need to respect play action, however. While McCoy called run fakes on less than 20% of plays in 2018, the Cardinals average a 1st down on those plays. Two of Rosen’s best plays this year came after play action and the Denver defense was pitiful at stopping it until the Rams game. The Fly Zone can’t afford to fall asleep on Christian Kirk. If Woods and Joseph can make Arizona one dimensional it will force Rosen to beat them himself. He’s shown enough promise on tape that it’s fair to wonder if Elway should have picked him over Bradley Chubb, but he’s still a rookie passer with questionable weapons to exploit the Fly Zone. X-Factor: Case KeenumThe Cardinals defense is one of the very best in the league against preventing big plays through the air and harassing quarterbacks into mistakes. They’re built to force passes to tight ends and running backs in order to tempt opposing offenses to patiently march the field with the idea that eventually a mishap will occur. Keenum is the only quarterback in the NFL this season who has thrown an interception in all 6 games. Time is running out for him to convince fans he can turn back the clock to 2017, if it hasn’t already.Even if he never rediscovers the magic that made him a legitimate MVP candidate with the Vikings, his previous tape showed a game manager that could pilot a playoff-worthy offense. So far he’s failed to meet even that hope with Denver, despite a talented supporting cast. Thursday represents his last best chance to flip the narrative that Elway erred in handing him a 2-year $36 million deal. After Arizona, four of the Broncos’ next five opponents have legitimate playoff aspirations. Lose to the Cardinals and Kelly time becomes a real possibility with 10 days before the trip to Kansas City.

An immigrant who was living illegally in Indiana when he was arrested in a suspected drunken-driving crash that killed an NFL player had a history of misdemeanor convictions and arrests Authentic Michael Gallup Jersey , including at least two previous instances of driving under the influence, authorities said Tuesday.

President Donald Trump drew added attention to Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson’s death on Twitter, calling the highway collision that killed him and another man ”disgraceful.” The president also prodded Democrats to work with him on illegal immigration and border security.

The driver believed to be responsible for Sunday’s crash on Interstate 70 in Indianapolis had been deported twice in the last decade.

Trump tweeted Tuesday: ”So disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed (at)Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson. This is just one of many such preventable tragedies. We must get the Dems to get tough on the Border, and with illegal immigration, FAST!”

In a second tweet, he added, ”My prayers and best wishes are with the family of Edwin Jackson, a wonderful young man whose life was so senselessly taken. (at)Colts.”

Jackson was 26. The collision also killed his Uber driver, 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe, who was not mentioned by the president. Police said both men were struck by a pickup truck driven by the suspect as they stood along I-70 after Jackson became ill.

Since the 2016 campaign, Trump has regularly pointed to crimes connected to illegal immigration as evidence that the U.S. needs to build a wall along the Mexican border and tighten immigration policies. As president, he has threatened to withhold federal funding to cities with sanctuary city policies.

A spokesman for Jackson’s family said they are devastated and planned no response to Trump’s tweets about the crash and the suspect’s immigration status.

”The family is in shock, as you can imagine. This obviously happened so unexpectedly,” Atlanta attorney Daniel Meachum said.

The man suspected of causing the collision Authentic Dorance Armstrong Jr. Jersey , 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala, had a 2005 conviction for driving under the influence in Redwood City, California. He also has numerous other misdemeanor convictions and arrests in California and Indiana, said Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Nicole Alberico.

In the 2005 case, he pleaded no contest to two separate drunken driving offenses and was given a brief jail sentence, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Tuesday.

Orrego-Savala remained jailed in Indianapolis but had not been formally charged in the crash. He appeared Tuesday before a judge who advised him of his rights. Indianapolis television station WRTV reported that Orrego-Savala told the judge through an interpreter: ”I wasn’t driving the car. I don’t know why I am here.”

A police news release did not mention the presence of anyone else in the pickup truck.

Orrego-Savala faces an initial court hearing Wednesday morning, prior to which a decision on formal charges in the case will be announced, said Peg McLeish, a spokeswoman for the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Guatemala citizen, who gave officers a fake name when he was arrested, was deported in 2007 and 2009, police said.

A breath test administered at the crash scene found that Orrego-Savala’s blood-alcohol content was almost 0.24 percent, or nearly three times Indiana’s legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to an affidavit.

Orrego-Savala had prior run-ins with law enforcement for driving without a valid license Authentic Paul Worrilow Jersey , the affidavit said.

The state trooper who discovered the wreckage shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday accidentally struck Monroe before he could stop, police said.

State Police Sgt. John Perrine said investigators believe Monroe was already dead when the trooper’s car hit him in the center lane. He said a coroner would look into his specific cause of death.

Orrego-Savala was walking away from the crash scene when the same trooper detained him.

The fatalities come about two months after a California jury acquitted a Mexican man in the fatal July 2015 shooting of a woman on a San Francisco pier – a death that touched off a fierce national immigration debate.

Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, who was acquitted of murder Nov. 30, had been deported five times and was wanted for a sixth deportation when Kate Steinle was killed. Garcia Zarate said the shooting was accidental and occurred when he picked up a gun wrapped in a T-shirt under a seat on the pier.

Steinle’s death was often cited by Trump as a reason to crack down on illegal immigration.

Jackson, who grew up in Atlanta, started eight games for the Colts during the 2016 season, finishing third on the team with 61 tackles. He was considered a possible starter at inside linebacker for 2017 but missed the season after suffering an injury during training camp.

The 6-foot, 234-pound athlete previously played for the Arizona Cardinals.

Colts owner Jim Irsay has offered to pay for both Jackson and Monroe’s funerals, the team’s chief operating officer, Pete Ward, said.

”People joke, `Can we just have a Prince hologram?”’ said Mike Howard, spokesman for the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee. Justin Timberlake is the halftime performer for Sunday’s game.

At a press conference Thursday, Timberlake said Prince was a big influence.

”In my opinion, the greatest all-around musician in popular culture,” Timberlake said. ”The time I got to spend around him, with him, talking about music . those are memories that I’ll take with me forever.”

But the sights and sounds of Prince still surround the big game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots. There’s the mural of Prince with a white dove in the Uptown neighborhood, his gold star outside Minneapolis’ First Avenue nightclub, or Paisley Park, his recording complex-turned-museum in Chanhassen, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southwest of Minneapolis.

”Prince is not here in being Miles Killebrew Jersey , but he’s here in spirit,” said music producer Jimmy Jam, who along with his producing partner Terry Lewis went heavy on Minnesota musical acts for Super Bowl Live , a free, 10-day fan festival on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis. Dressed in turquoise jacket and pants with an orange shirt Randall Cobb Jersey , Prince gave a blistering rendition of his own hits, such as ”Let’s Go Crazy,” followed by covers of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ”Proud Mary,” Bob Dylan’s ”All Along the Watchtower” and the Foo Fighters’ ”Best of You” before finishing with ”Purple Rain” in a driving rainstorm.

Morris Hayes, 55, was a keyboardist for Prince’s former band New Power Generation and was on stage that night. He remembers organizers approaching Prince before the Super Bowl with the forecast of rain and offering to pre-record his performance. Hayes said that prompted Prince’s famous response: Can you make it rain harder?

”The fact that it did rain when it did and how (Prince) did `Purple Rain’ in the rain, you can’t beat that. … It was magical, you know,” Hayes recalled.

Fan Melisa Rokala, 46, of Cokato explains Prince’s appeal to Minnesota residents.

”As a Minnesotan, we love our own. And we love it when our own people love us here,” Rokala said. ”He loved Minnesota. It was always his home. And his music was groundbreaking.”

She believes Prince – who once wrote a song for the Minnesota Vikings – would have been involved in a Minneapolis Super Bowl, perhaps again as the halftime performer T.J. Jones Jersey , if he was still alive.

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers are hoping that a well-rested and inspired rookie pitcher will lead them to success in Sunday’s series finale against the San Francisco Giants.

Left-hander Caleb Ferguson will make his third career start, pitching opposite Giants right-hander Chris Stratton, but it will be his first outing where he will get a minute to catch his breath and ease into his surroundings.

Before his major league debut on June 6, and his follow-up effort Tuesday, Ferguson had to scramble to catch a flight and then take the mound for the Dodgers. This time around, Ferguson has done all of his between-start routine with the major league club, and even got a bonus assignment this week.

Ferguson was able to get an up-close-and-personal look at Clayton Kershaw’s most recent rehab bullpen session. It was a multi-pronged effort to not only let Ferguson watch a pitcher he looks up to, but to get an in-depth view at one of the hardest workers in the game.

“Even for Caleb to sit in on Clayton’s pen (Friday) and to sit in on Rich (Hill’s on Saturday) and not have to fly in make a start then fly out and come back in, he will get to assimilate with our guys,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “I think there is a benefit to that.”

Ferguson (0-0, 9.53) lasted just 1 2/3 innings of his debut at Pittsburgh and then went four innings Tuesday against the Rangers. He has given up a combined six runs, but the Dodgers offense has scored a combined 21 runs in his two outings so at least he is getting elite run support.

Stratton (7-4, 4.56) has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his last four starts, but he is facing a Dodgers lineup that has hit 34 home runs in June alone. The right-hander will have to face a trio of left-handed hitters in Max Muncy Authentic Troy Apke Jersey , Cody Bellinger and Joc Pederson who have been productive of late.

He figures to be up for the challenge after guiding the Giants to a 10-4 record in his starts this season. In his outing Tuesday at Miami, Stratton was just the second Giants pitcher since May 6 to last at least seven innings, but he still took the loss in a 3-1 defeat. It was his sixth quality start of the season.

The Giants are currently 3-6 on a three-city road trip that ends Sunday. And while a return home is ahead, better health could be coming soon, although third baseman Evan Longoria figures to be out at least a month with a fractured left hand.

First baseman Brandon Belt was activated Saturday, while pitchers Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija could be back soon.

“Our biggest issue has been trying to stay healthy,” manager Bruce Bochy said, according to mlb.com.

Madison Bumgarner made his third start since coming off the disabled list Saturday and allowed three runs on five hits in six innings of a 3-1 loss. It marked the 11th straight time in Los Angeles the Giants scored two runs or less, according to STATS Inc.

Matt Kemp and Enrique Hernandez homered for the Dodgers — who will go for the series sweep on Sunday — while Alex Wood allowed a run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Ross Stripling is scheduled to make his second major league appearance against the Los Angeles Angels when they meet in the middle game of their three-game interleague series at Angel Stadium on Saturday evening.

He last faced the Angels just over two years ago in his first season with the Dodgers. That game likely stands out to Stripling because it’s the only time he hit a batter in 257 2/3 innings in the majors.

That miscue forced in a run and ended the night after 4 2/3 innings for Stripling Mason Crosby Jersey , who had walked two other batters in the inning. The bullpen then gave up the lead with the inherited runners and Stripling took the loss in the 7-4 defeat at Angel Stadium.

Stripling (6-2, 2.27 ERA) has not only avoided hitting another batter since then, but has mastered his overall control, entering Saturday with 96 strikeouts and just 13 walks this season. His ERA is seventh best in the majors among pitchers with at least 12 starts.

Not bad for a pitcher whose first 10 appearances this season came out of the bullpen, where he’s 0-0 with a 0.59 ERA this season.

Stripling will try to get the Dodgers (47-40) back atop the NL West after Kenley Jansen blew a save in the series opener on Friday night and the Angels won 3-2. The Dodgers had taken over first place for the first time this season while idle on Thursday, but the Arizona Diamondbacks moved back into first with the Dodgers’ loss to the Angels (45-44).

Angels rookie David Fletcher continues to cement himself as a major leaguer. He drove in the tying run with a two-out pinch-hit single off Jansen, then scored the winning run from first on a check-swing single by Ian Kinsler Authentic Rasheem Green Jersey , followed by a throwing error by Dodgers right-fielder Yasiel Puig.

“If I can help the team win, it’s a big deal,” Fletcher told FOX Sports West after the win.

Stripling knows he needs to be sharper on Saturday than he was in his last outing, when he allowed four runs and a season-high nine hits in six innings of a 6-4 victory against the visiting Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

Stripling told the Southern California News Group following the game that he didn’t believe he was getting fatigued. Stripling has thrown 83 1/3 innings this season, more than the 77 1/3 he logged last season, but less than the 104 1/3 he accumulated during the 2016 season.

“They’ve seen me throw 80 innings now this year,” he said. “I think they’ve got an idea what’s coming. I’ve just got to stay sharp.”

Indians right-hander Danny Salazar will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery.

The team said Salazar had an arthroscopic debridement and bursectomy. He will not be able to throw for at least three months while he recovers and there is no definitive timetable on when he’ll pitch again.

Salazar has been on the disabled list since the start of the season after arriving at spring training with a sore shoulder. He had numerous procedures before the decision was made to have the operation.

The 28-year-old Salazar went 5-6 with a 4.28 ERA in 19 starts for Cleveland last season. His loss deprives the AL Central leaders of some depth in case they suffer any more injuries.

Salazar made the All-Star team in 2016, when he went 11-6 with a 3.87 ERA in 25 starts. Salazar has been with the Indians since 2013.

The NFL said Thursday it will investigate whether the Oakland Raiders violated the ”Rooney Rule” when they hired Jon Gruden as coach.

The Fritz Pollard Alliance called for the investigation on Wednesday out of concern that Raiders owner Mark Davis came to an agreement with Gruden before the team interviewed any minority candidates as required by the NFL since 2003.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement that the NFL will ”look into this.”

Davis said Tuesday at the news conference introducing Gruden as the team’s new coach that he had been trying to make the move for six years and finally believed it would happen after a meeting in Philadelphia on Christmas Eve, the day before Gruden worked a game between the Raiders and Eagles on ESPN.

”I felt pretty confident that he was all-in,” Davis said. ”And that’s the term that we were using in our discussions and everything, are you all-in? And I never wavered from all-in. And this time he didn’t waver, either.”

Davis fired Jack Del Rio a week later and the team officially hired Gruden on Jan. 6. Davis also said he wouldn’t have fired Del Rio if he didn’t believe Gruden would sign on as coach.

”I believe that I would’ve sat down with Jack and we would’ve figured out coordinators and assistant coaches and things like that and try to figure out how to reinvigorate the franchise through Jack,” he said.

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said Tuesday he interviewed two minority candidates before Gruden’s hiring was announced. Those candidates were Oakland tight ends coach Bobby Johnson and Southern California offensive coordinator Tee Martin.

The Raiders haven’t commented on the request from the Fritz Pollard Alliance.

Trevor Bauer turned from pitcher to politician to prize fighter.

If the weather was going to finish him, Bauer was going down swinging.

Bauer pitched seven scoreless innings before a rain delay ended his night, and Jason Kipnis homered to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 6-2 win over the sliding and sloppy Chicago White Sox on Monday.

Bauer (6-5) allowed just three hits, struck out eight and was in line to potentially pitch his first career shutout. However, after the game was halted in the seventh for 35 minutes, manager Terry Francona pulled the right-hander following the delay.

Not before Bauer pleaded his case.

”Carl Willis was lucky he didn’t come tell me Authentic Ryan Switzer Jersey ,” Bauer said, referring to Cleveland’s pitching coach. ”I told him any one but Tito and I was throwing fists.”

Bauer was joking, of course, but Francona liked how his right-hander fought to remain in the game.

”Boy, I give him credit, man,” Francona said. ”Even during the rain delay he was politicking. It just doesn’t make sense. But I gotta tell you, if you’re going to get into a little bit of a push and shove, I like it that he wants to stay in. I respect the hell out of that. I just didn’t think it made sense. I don’t have any doubt he could have done it, too. ”

Roberto Perez drove in two runs off Dylan Covey (3-2) as Cleveland improved to 15-4 in its last 19 home games against Chicago.

The White Sox committed three errors – one by Covey – in the first three innings, lost their fifth straight and dropped a season-high 23 games under .500.

Matt Davidson homered in the ninth for Chicago.

White Sox manager Rick Renteria felt Covey deserved better.

”Believe it or not even though Dylan did have a few walks Authentic Adrian Clayborn Jersey , he didn’t throw the ball as badly as the numbers might show,” he said. ”We didn’t defend for him. A lot of sloppy play out there to be honest. We just didn’t catch the ball and pick him up when we could have and he still ground out five innings.”

Chicago’s hitters couldn’t get anything going against Bauer, who struck out 12 in a tough loss against the White Sox and Covey last week. Bauer was bidding to tie a club record held by two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber with his fifth consecutive game of at least 10 strikeouts.

Bauer got to eight, but was denied any more because of a line of storms off Lake Erie and Francona’s decision not to push him further. Bauer has thrown at least 100 pitches in all 16 starts this season.

The enigmatic starter is crediting his success to some new pitches and a ”tunneling approach” in which he divides the plate into quadrants.

”The more I’m able to execute those spots, with given pitches, the more confusion there is in the hitters because they see the same look over and over, and the ball goes different ways at different speeds and what not,” he said.

Perez’s two-run, ground-rule double highlighted Cleveland’s three-run second inning, which was set up by Chicago second baseman Yoan Moncada’s fielding error.

Indians reliever Evan Marshall left in the eighth after complaining of elbow soreness. Francona said the team will likely have an update on him Wednesday.

MORE THAN A NAME

Looking for bullpen help, the Indians signed veteran reliever Marc Rzepczynski to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Columbus. The left-hander previously pitched for Cleveland from 2013-15 Kenny Clark Jersey , appearing in 145 games.

The club currently needs a lefty reliever with both Andrew Miller and Tyler Olson on the disabled list. Rzepczynski could be an option.

”It’s a guy we know,” Francona said. ”We’re down to one lefty right now, so it’s a guy that certainly could come here and help. He didn’t sign to stay in Triple-A.”

Francona joked that he still has trouble spelling the lefty’s last name.

”I’ve got it in my phone: Z-E-P,” he said.

White Sox: Renteria said OF Avisail Garcia (strained right hamstring) is progressing well on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte. Garcia’s status will be reassessed after he plays Tuesday and Wednesday. He’s been on the disabled list since May 24.

Indians: OF Bradley Zimmer will undergo an MRI on his right shoulder. Zimmer felt discomfort while throwing after he initially strained the shoulder while doing drills after being sent to Columbus to work on his game. ”I don’t think he thought it was anything, and it just didn’t feel good. So, we’re going to go ahead and get him looked at,” Francona said.

Indians RHP Mike Clevinger will face the White Sox for the second straight start. He set a career high with 11 strikeouts and held Chicago to one run over seven innings last Thursday. Carlos Rodon will start for the White Sox.

The Panthers announced the addition of six assistant coaches to Ron Rivera’s staff Authentic Nick Nelson Jersey , including former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke as the new defensive line coach.

Hoke spent the 2017 season as Tennessee’s as associate head coach/defensive line coach. He served as the Volunteers’ interim head coach following Butch Jones’ departure. He previously spent 20 seasons coaching the defensive line at the collegiate level.

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Kenta Maeda is expected to face fellow countryman Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels for the first time in their major league careers Friday night in the series opener at Angel Stadium.

The Dodgers (47-39) have won four in a row to climb eight games over .500 for the first time this season. They moved two percentage points ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks (48-40) for first place in the National League West after Arizona lost its series opener at the San Diego Padres 6-3 on Thursday night.

The Angels (44-44) completed a 10-game road trip with a 4-1 loss against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night, dropping 12 games behind the Mariners for the second wild card from the American League. They’ll try to avoid falling below .500 for the first time since losing their season opener.

Ohtani Sylvester Williams Jersey , who turned 24 on Thursday, is in his first major league season after playing for the Nippon Ham Fighters the previous five years. He began this season as a right-handed pitcher and designated hitter and was having success as a two-way player until he was placed on the disabled list June 8 with a grade 2 sprain of his right ulnar collateral ligament.

He received stem-cell therapy and a platelet-rich-plasma injection to help heal the ligament without surgery, and was activated Tuesday before the Angels opened the three-game series against the Mariners.

Maeda, 30, pitched in Japan for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp from 2008-15 and faced Ohtani a few times, but told the Southern California News Group earlier this week that he considers this a new challenge.

“The image I had about him as a hitter has changed, so my approach to the way I pitch to him will change Kerry Hyder Jersey ,” Maeda said through an interpreter. “I’m just going to approach it as if I’m facing a new hitter.”

Maeda (5-5, 3.36) has pitched well since mid-May, when he didn’t allow a run in back-to-back starts against the Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies.

Maeda blanked the Chicago Cubs for seven innings in a 2-1 victory June 25, and then allowed three runs (two earned) and five hits over seven innings in a 3-1 loss to the Rockies on Saturday.

Maeda has made two career starts against the Angels and is 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA. He threw seven shutout innings in his last appearance against Los Angeles on June 27, 2017 and the Dodgers won 4-0 at Dodger Stadium.

The starting lineup the Angels used against Seattle right-hander Mike Leake on Wednesday is a combined 3-for-25 off Maeda. Angels catcher Martin Maldonado is hitless in eight at-bats against Maeda, which may open the door for rookie Jose Briceno to get his first start since Sunday.

Angels rookie right-hander Jaime Barria was originally scheduled to start the series opener against the Dodgers, but was moved up to Thursday after left-hander Tyler Skaggs went on the 10-day disabled list with a right adductor strain Filip Forsberg Jersey , becoming the 10th starter for the Angels to go on the DL this season.

Felix Pena (1-0, 3.71 ERA) will make the start for the Angels and try to continue his transition from relief pitcher to starter.

The time for the Minnesota Vikings to commit anew to a starting quarterback has almost arrived.

With Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford each on track to become an unrestricted free agent in two weeks, the Vikings have yet to make any final decisions about any of them. That’s what Spielman said at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis on Wednesday.

”There have been no decisions made, and I know there have been a thousand reports out there,” Spielman said. ”We’re going to move forward and continue to evolve this process through the meetings this week with the agents.”

That’s a way they could essentially kick the quarterback-decision can down the road by keeping him for 2018 at a rate in the top tier of current league-wide salaries at the position, which would be well more than $20 million this year. That’s also a lot of money for a player who was a career backup until Bradford’s knee injury after the season opener paved the way for his breakout performance.

Authorities say a former major league All-Star pitcher held two people at gunpoint after they took mail from his mailbox.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s office said on Facebook that deputies responded just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to a call from Kevin Brown in Macon.

The Telegraph newspaper reports Brown saw two men in a white sports car take his mail before speeding off twice Tuesday. The next day, he waited with a gun and detained the pair when they tried again.

The sheriff’s office arrested two brothers from Miami Authentic Brandon Parker Jersey , one 30 and one 15. They face charges of mail theft and forgery, and the older brother is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

After catcher Brian McCann went on the disabled list and had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee earlier Tuesday, manager A.J. Hinch said Max Stassi would do the bulk of the catching. But Stassi got hit by a pitch batting in the first, and left the game with a bruised right (throwing) wrist before even taking the field on defense.

”I think we avoided a fracture, very good for us,” manager A.J. Hinch said. ”Got him pretty good in the wrist. Got a welt there, couldn’t flex his hand, hand so mobility.”

X-rays were negative and Stassi is considered day to day.

Keuchel had only thrown a few bullpens with Federowicz in spring training, and a live BP session, before the catcher was called back from Triple-A Fresno earlier Tuesday.

DOUBLE DOUBLED UP

Astros leadoff hitter George Springer was in a 3-for-46 slide before a single in the sixth. But he was also doubled off twice on hard lineouts.

Gerrit Cole (9-2) will pitch on regular rest for the Astros after they made a slight tweak in their rotation. Lance McCullers Jr., who was scheduled to start, was instead pushed back to Friday. While other players were prepping for this season at spring training, Jose Bautista was on his own.

A six-time All-Star without a big league job, Bautista remained eager to catch on somewhere and knew he needed to be resourceful. So to stay in game shape, the 37-year-old slugger spent his days back home in Florida hopping from gym workouts to local ballfields.

Sometimes he ended up at the University of Tampa, or Tampa Catholic High School. Wherever he could find an empty diamond to hit and do defensive drills.

”I was trying to mimic somewhat the same program Authentic Jordan Whitehead Jersey ,” said Bautista, who has quickly become a rare bright spot for the New York Mets this year. ”I mean, it wasn’t the easiest thing.”

His agent helped him scrounge up batting-practice pitchers to simulate game situations as best they could. High school kids, college players, other free agents looking for work.

Bautista figures he got about 30 ”at-bats” or so in April, when the regular season was already underway for everyone else. All the while, the former Toronto Blue Jays star waited for a new opportunity.

”Yeah, different fields. Whatever was available and whatever people could get to,” he said.

Not exactly an ideal way to sharpen up for Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw. But after struggling through a 12-game stint with the Atlanta Braves in May, mostly at third base, Joey Bats has hardly missed a beat since arriving in New York. He had a .944 OPS over 35 games going into Sunday and had already batted in every spot for the Mets besides ninth.

”He never backed off,” teammate and close friend Jose Reyes said last week. ”He always was working.”

Next up, a nice reward.

On deck this week is the first trip for Bautista back to Toronto, where he blossomed into one of baseball’s best power hitters with the Blue Jays from 2008-17. The struggling Mets play interleague games at Rogers Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Needless to say, he’s excited.

”I’m trying not to think about it,” Bautista said last week. ”I’m trying not to dwell on it too much.”

”Obviously, I played there for 10 years. I consider it one of my homes away from home,” he added. ”I’m just going to let it come and enjoy it when it gets here.”

Reyes, also Bautista’s teammate in Toronto from 2013-15 Authentic Rashaan Evans Jersey , said last week the outfielder had been staying at his house in New York for the past few days and the two talked about the upcoming games in Toronto.

Bautista, still sporting a neatly trimmed beard, acknowledged he anticipates a warm reception.

Bautista hit 54 home runs for the Blue Jays in 2010 and led the majors again with 43 the following season. He finished in the top four in AL MVP voting both years.

And of course, who could ever forget his gigantic bat flip after connecting for a decisive homer in the 2015 playoffs against Texas?

As he approached free agency, Bautista’s numbers dropped off in 2016. Toronto brought him back on a one-year contract for $18 million last season, but he slumped to a .203 batting average with 23 homers, 65 RBIs and 170 strikeouts, and the Blue Jays moved on.

”As a player, we understand that this is a business,” Reyes said. ”He wanted to stay there, but I don’t know. When you build that fan base and the people love you and stuff and you (are) successful in one place, you don’t want to go someplace else. But it comes a time in baseball. It just happens. Yeah, he understands that.”

Two days after he was released by Atlanta, the Mets signed Bautista on May 22 for the $545,000 major league minimum to provide a right-handed bat in the outfield following injuries to Yoenis Cespedes and Juan Lagares.

Bautista stepped off a plane and right into the starting lineup, hitting a double in his first at-bat Authentic Harold Landry Jersey , just as he did with the Braves. This time, though, he hasn’t stopped producing even though everything around him keeps falling apart.
