Broncos coaches can find redemption against Jets The mistakes of the Denver Broncos coaching staff on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs are well documented by now. Perhaps they just over-complicated things against their division rival. With a new week comes new opportunities. A win against the New York Jets will go a long way to finding redemption for Vance Joseph and his staff.As Ian St. Clair and I discussed on the latest MHR Radio Podcast http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/darian-stewart-jersey , this game is the clich茅d must-win. The coaching staff needs to bounce back in Week 5. The perception that many fans have currently is that the Broncos win in spite of the coaches. The best way to fix that is to learn from the mistakes made against the Chiefs.This is about situational football. The defense actually played well against Kansas City, but in the end, Joe Woods failed to make the right play calls. Decisions like playing man-to-man on second-and-30 can’t happen against the Jets. Failing to run the football and take time off the clock with a lead at the end of the game can’t happen again. Bill Musgrave has to be better.The most glaring issue was the decision to stop running the football. Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay had incredible games in limited touches. Against the Jets, it is imperative that Denver forces New York to prove it can stop the run. Even though teams score points by throwing the football, the Broncos need to use the run to set up the pass. They should leave New Jersey having run the ball 15 to 20 times more than passing it.Joseph and his staff have the chance to show improvement. There is plenty of talent on the roster. There are coaches throughout the league that could take advantage of that talent and help push the Broncos to wins. Making good decisions, and putting the team in a position to beat the Jets won’t silence critics, but it could be the first step in that direction. Don’t ask how many steps it will take. The defensive secondary is lost. The pass rush isn’t getting there. Injuries aside, there isn’t the level of enjoyment within the defense that has existed in past seasons. Joe Woods needs to make playing on that side of the ball fun again. Right now it’s work and it’s painful to watch. Case was the Keenum they gave us.Three weeks in, I’m starting to wonder just what the plan with Case Keenum is. It feels like play-calling has been unchanged from Osweiler, to Trevor, to Paxton, and now Case. The checkdown continues to reign supreme in the Mile High City and there is clear reluctance to put air into the ball. If the Broncos don’t start to stretch the field when they don’t absolutely need to www.denverbroncosteamonline.com , defenses are going to squat on underneath routes and crush momentum just like Baltimore did to Denver on Sunday. The failures of the offense aren’t on the players entirely. Once again, I’m harping on Vance Joseph’s ability to hold players accountable for their play. Does Joseph look at the box score? Emmanuel Sanders, a wide receiver, is listed above Denver’s veteran running back. That’s fine, it happens and all credit to Sanders that he’s due. However, how does the running back who was ejected in the second quarter still have a better day than the Broncos lone veteran running back? The Broncos can’t keep wasting snaps on someone who just isn’t going to get it. It hurts my brain trying to understand why opportunities continue to be wasted on this guy. What more do you need to see?The Broncos can either learn from their mistakes or continue to run the game plans and players that doomed the 2017 season. It’s time for Denver to take stock of what they want out of this season. They can keep doing what isn’t working or they can innovate. With Kansas City coming to town, it’s in the Broncos best interest to open their eyes. Otherwise, it’ll be lights-out on 2018. Tyler Lockett extension provides much-needed stability at wide receiver for the Seahawks The Seattle Seahawks officially announced a three-year contract extension for wide receiver Tyler Lockett http://www.authenticsseattleseahawks.com/cheap-barkevious-mingo-jersey , who was set to hit free agency in 2019. Lockett figures to have a substantially increased role this season, through a combination of him being back to full health following his Christmas Eve 2016 broken leg, as well as his position as the #2 guy on the depth chart behind Doug Baldwin.If you’ve followed John Schneider’s track record, you know that prior to Lockett, the only offensive draft picks — so UDFAs do not count — that he’d given extensions to are Russell Wilson and Justin Britt. That’s it. Luke Willson technically re-signed with the Seahawks following his rookie deal, but that was a one-year contract during free agency, and obviously he’s gone.Barring something drastic, this assures that Seattle’s top two receivers are under contract until at least 2020. Doug Baldwin’s current deal expires in 2020, whereas Lockett’s takes him through 2021.I believe the single worst move of the Schneider era was the Percy Harvin trade. It indirectly cost the Seahawks Golden Tate, and when Harvin was jettisoned by mid-2014, Seattle’s receiving corps was.... well it wasn’t very good outside of Baldwin. Pedestrian, if you will. Jermaine Kearse was essentially the #2 target, followed by rookie Paul Richardson (who tore his ACL in the playoffs) Youth Doug Baldwin Jersey , Ricardo Lockette at ,4# and the immortal Bryan Walters at #5. When Richardson went down, Chris Matthews was promoted and the Seahawks fielded literally nothing but UDFAs at WR in the Super Bowl.While this isn’t an identical situation, Schneider doesn’t want a repeat of what happened in 2014, and I wouldn’t have really been keen on the stretch of not re-signing any of Tate, Richardson, or Lockett. I know Moore has been a preseason sensation, but he’s still untested in regular season play. Darboh has nine career receptions to his name. Brown is on a two-year deal and only has 86 receptions through five years, with 2017 by far his best season. As much as we’ve seen promise out of the UDFAs in preseason, a Lockett-less Seahawks WR group in 2019 is not that strong.Baldwin has established himself as one of the league’s best slot receivers, while Lockett’s stellar rookie campaign (15th in DYAR and DVOA) showed off his abilities both as a pass-catcher and a kick/punt returner. Even in 2017, while admittedly 75-80%, he had more receptions (45) on fewer targets (71) than Richardson (44 on 80) in a contract year. The key difference obviously is that Lockett had a career-low 12.3 YPC and just two touchdowns, but the promise is still there. I’d have rather kept Richardson than Lockett, but Lockett is cheaper, more valuable on special teams, and even with the broken leg he still doesn’t have Richardson’s injury history that dates back to college. With Lockett healthy again, the best may be yet to come, and that’s a major plus for Russell Wilson and this Seahawks offense. The Chargers came away with the win yesterday Forrest Lamp Color Rush Jersey , but at what cost? Star RB Melvin Gordon III went down with a knee injury on a trick play in the 3rd Quarter of Sunday’s game. He was receiving a pitch from fellow RB Austin Ekeler when Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche was being blocked to the ground and his legs hit MG3 in the knee from the side. Gordon hit the ground and was instantly grimacing in pain. He was helped to the sideline and his knee was tested by team staff. Gordon was immediately visually depressed at whatever the docs told him. A few minutes later he was shown limping to the locker room with a towel completely covering his head. The team didn’t wait for Monday to come around to get further testing done.The news is undoubtably awful, especially with Gordon having a career year and really finding his groove as a RB in this offense. However, the fact that he will likely be back before the end of the regular season, and definitely for the playoffs, is very encouraging. With star DE Joey Bosa back in the lineup, the defense should get a much needed boost and take the pressure off of the offense which will help minimize the loss of Gordon. Hopefully Philip Rivers can continue to sling the ball at an epic level like he did on Sunday as well. UPDATE: Now it’s official. Week to week evaluation on Gordon’s knee. 1: On paper, this looks like the weakest Patriots team for a few years - but they still managed to get a first round bye! That’s testament to just how dominant the Patriots have been, but is that a statement you’d necessarily agree with? Is this Patriots team more fallible than in years past?Let’s go back 10 years: in 2008 and with Tom Brady sidelined due to an ACL tear, the Patriots went 11-5 but lost their division on a tiebreaker and ultimately missed the playoffs. This year, they went 11-5 during the regular season and are the second seed in the AFC. What I’m is that New England managing to get a first-round bye despite their worst record since 2009 is as much a testament to their own performance — they are, after all, just one Miami Hail Mary play away from being the top seed — as it is of the overall inconsistency of the AFC in 2018.That being said, I certainly agree that the Patriots look more vulnerable this year when compared to some of their past editions. While defense and special teams have settled late during the regular season, and New England now features Pro Football Focus’ top-ranked secondary left in the playoffs (ahead of the Chargers’), for example, the offense very much remains a work in progress and is still searching both its identity and a certain level of consistency.The main reason for that appears to be personnel turnover. 3 things we learned from Jaguars vs. Giants The Jacksonville Jaguars we saw win 20-15 against the New York Giants is pretty much the Jaguars most fans expected to see. Dominating defense with a grindy offense that can struggle in the passing game. There were a couple of things we learned in Week 1 Womens Marcell Dareus Jersey , even if we already knew them.The defense might be betterReally outside of a single play that had at least three missed tackles, the Jaguars defense stifled the Giants offense the whole game. Sure, Eli Manning went 11 for 11 to start the game, but nothing was really gained from all of that and the Jaguars ran a lot of soft zone to keep everything in front of them. Odell Beckham Jr. has 110 yards on 11 receptions, most of which came rub routes or a chunk of yardage short of the first down marker on third and long. The defensive line was disruptive all game long and forced the Giants into a quick passing offense with the run game being shut down. The team punted seven straight drives, didn’t score a single point and struggled to kill clock late with the lead. They actually passed the ball to start five of those seven drives, but penalties, struggles by the quarterback and inability for guys to make a play bogged them down. The Jaguars offense showed they’re still an offense that is going to struggle playing behind the sticks. Holding penalties and the like are often called drive killers, but for a passing attack like the Jaguars and with Leonard Fournette out of the game, they truly are drive killers. The Raiders are still playing in Oakland, have no home for next season and will be in Las Vegas on opening day 2020.Still, no one told them in Oakland their team would be leaving well before the posted checkout time.That's pretty much what $100 million coach Jon Gruden and the Raiders have done in this, the most dismal of Raider seasons. The team is 1-5, and only games against the equally hapless 49ers and Cardinals figure to get in the way of securing the No. 1 pick in next year's draft.The team's best player was sent to Chicago as the season began, and the best receiver packed his bags this week in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys. The remaining talent is spread thin, and there are worries Carr may not be the franchise quarterback he seemed to be just two years ago when he led Oakland to 12 wins and a berth in the playoffs.Tanking? Well, not officially, because no team ever makes it official. But the Raiders are clearly stockpiling first round draft picks for the jackpot waiting in Las Vegas.And Gruden and owner Mark Davis can't wait to cash in.The glittering new $1.9 billion stadium rising just off the Las Vegas Strip isn't just a place for the Raiders to play. It's a lifeline for a team that has long struggled to keep pace with other NFL teams who have owners with far deeper pockets.And making a good first impression in Sin City is far more important than winning some of the few remaining games in Oakland.Trading Amari Cooper to the Cowboys was simply another affirmation the Raiders under Gruden will be a far different team than the one he inherited this season. The team now has three first-round draft picks in 2019, and five total over the next two seasons.That will allow Gruden to put the players he wants on the field, and make no mistake that these are his decisions, not those of general manager Reggie McKenzie. Davis is giving Gruden a free hand, and for $10 million a year expects him to deliver a winner in Las Vegas.The move can't come soon enough. Actually, this season can't end soon enough.Raider fans were shocked when instead of ending Khalil Mack's holdout with a new contract, they traded him to the Bears. Then, after a lifeless performance by the team in London, the Cowboys came calling with the offer of a first-round pick for Cooper.That's two former first-round picks gone in the space of a few weeks. That's also throwing away what could conceivably be the last season in Oakland for the Raiders.It's painful for Raider faithful. Just as painful Youth Connor Williams Jersey , apparently, for Carr.But it's absolutely the right move. And, assuming Gruden can still coach in the league, it's a gamble that should pay off in Vegas.Davis has put all his chips in on the move to Las Vegas, and a city built on losers isn't going to tolerate one for long. The Raiders need to make a splash to help justify the move, and need the buzz of a good team to make sure their tickets will be the toughest on the Strip.That's not totally a given, though all signs point to a long marriage between team and city.The Raiders are already the most popular team in California. Imagine them as a regional powerhouse in Las Vegas, with thousands of fans clad in black and silver crowding the airport on game days.That's of little consolation to Oakland fans, who have cheered the team on for years. Many surely bought season tickets this year because they thought the Raiders had a chance to compete for a playoff spot at the very least.Instead, the only competition the Raiders might win now is the one for the No. 1 pick in the draft next year.The future of the Raiders is in Las Vegas, and in the next two drafts. Both teams are sitting at 3-4 in divisions that are still up for grabs, and both teams need to win Monday to keep any playoff hopes alive. On offense, the Titans have several players who could make for a potent attack. Marcus Mariota is a dual-threat quarterback, and the rushing duo of Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis can be a thunder and lightning tandem that’s hard to deal with. Additionally, the offensive line is solid, equipped with two extremely talented offensive tackles in Taylor Lewan and Jack Conklin. However, the offense has been pretty abysmal for Tennessee so far. The team ranks 30th in total offense and their rushing attack, by far their best component so far Youth Leighton Vander Esch Jersey , is only 19th in the league. Part of the problem is that the Titans have struggled at quarterback up to this point. Mariota was putting up some horrific numbers in the season opener - 9/16 for 103 yards and no touchdowns with two interceptions - before he left with an injury. He missed the next game, but has been playing since Week 3. Aside from a bonkers performance against the Eagles in Week 4, wherein Mariota put up 390 yards of total offense and three total touchdowns, the former second-overall draft pick has looked bad. On the season as a whole, Mariota is completing 66% of his passes and just crossed 1,000 passing yards last week - CJ Beathard and rookie Josh Rosen have more yards in as many starts - and what’s worse is that Mariota has thrown five interceptions and only three touchdowns. He has also scored a rushing touchdown, but has fumbled three times. Some have speculated that Mariota came back from his injury too soon. The injury, by the way, was nerve damage to the right elbow on his throwing arm. After he returned against the Jaguars in Week 3, it was reported that he still felt tingling and numbness in his fingers. For what it’s worth, Mariota said earlier in the week that he has feeling in his fingers again and is able to throw without a glove on. But feeling better in his hand isn’t going to magically revive this Titans offense. He was terrible in the season opener without any injury. And neither running back has been playing to their potential. Henry is averaging 3.3 yards a carry and has only managed one touchdown despite being the guy in goal line situations. Lewis is slightly better, averaging 3.8 yards a carry, but also has just one touchdown to his name despite being a focal point of the passing game. And that leads into perhaps the biggest issue with this offense: the lack of productive receivers. Don’t worry, Cowboys fans, you’re not the only ones with a mobile quarterback who has nobody to throw to. No, the Titans have Dallas beat on that end. Corey Davis is, by default, the best receiver on this team despite only catching 53.6% of passes thrown his way. He leads the team in receptions (30) and yards (395). The player with the second most receptions and yards? Lewis, the running back. While he definitely runs routes as if he were a receiver Youth Taco Charlton Jersey , a lot of Lewis’ receptions come on check downs and dump off passes, which contributes to his sky high 87.9% catch rate. Still, the fact that Lewis is second on the team in receiving yards with just 199 says all you need to know about this offense. Adding to the problems for Tennessee is the fact that 1) The Cowboys’ defense is currently ranked third in the NFL and 2) They are only allowing 14 points per game at home. For the first time in AT&T Stadium history, home field advantage is a real, tangible thing for the Cowboys. Any quarterback would be hard-pressed to succeed against this defense in Dallas, and Mariota has had his worst games on the road. His dreadful performance in the season opener? In Miami. In Jacksonville, he put up just 151 yards of total offense and exactly zero points. He had less yards and the same amount of points, plus an interception, on the road in Buffalo. Last week in Los Angeles against the Chargers, he threw his first touchdown on the road, but also threw a pick in the loss. There’s not an easy way to put it. The Titans offense is bad, and they’re even worse on the road. Perhaps Mariota’s fully recovered hand will result in a miraculous game for him, or maybe the absence of David Irving allows the rushing game to get going, but with the way this offense has played, and the way the Cowboys defense plays, points on the road will once again be at a premium for this team. cheap football jerseys |
