On the other hand, psychology and analytics are right up my alley. While NFL front offices have vast resources at their disposal, none of them can change time. The intense pressure of getting it right come draft time makes it unlikely teams can get too cute about creating smoke screens without significantly reducing the amount of time they can meet with draft prospects (that’s the psychology part). Let’s quantify the visits to create a rough parallel of time spent and see where the Buffalo Bills have been focusing their attention (the analytics part). Note: This chart shows the number of visits/meetings by position group. Player counts are generally similar as the Bills didn’t meet with many prospects more than once. For example, the 14 meetings with receivers were spread out among twelve players. Raw NumbersThe Bills have met with players from just about every position, but as the chart shows there are some wild disparities. Both schools had five players meet with the Bills. The names attached to Penn State don’t seem to suggest first round. There’s also the fact this school is considered local for the Bills and doesn’t count against their 30 visits. With two potential first-round wide receivers headlining the list there seems to be a little smoke in this direction. PredictionsThe Bills set themselves up well to take the best player available with the ninth pick. The two roles they look keen on finding a first-round talent are wide receiver and edge rusher. A lot of pre-draft conjecture suggests the Bills might need to trade up to land an elite edge rusher. Brandon Beane isn’t averse to making a deal. Buffalo also appears to be well-positioned in case a star defensive players slides down the board. Based on the data Youth Zay Jones Jerseys , though, the safe money seems to be at wide receiver. In addition to the numbers game alone, the Bills seem to have been circling around a player or two in particular. D.K. Metcalf and A.J. Brown look to be likely targets. Now, rookie Josh Rosen will start, and while Seattle’s defense no longer has legion-like boom, it can be tricky and ranks eighth against the pass.A win will tie Pete Carroll with Mike Holmgren for the most coaching victories in Seattle history (90).Houston (0-3) at Indianapolis (1-2)Houston probably is the most disappointing team in the NFL, having gotten back J.J. Watt, Whitney Mercilus and Deshaun Watson for injury, yet not winning at all. Indeed, the Texans‘ last victory came in November 2017.They rarely fare well with Indy, which has a 25-7 edge in the series. The Colts’ next win will be No. 300 since moving from Baltimore to Indianapolis in 1984.Adam Vinatieri needs one field goal to break Morten Andersen’s NFL record (565). Vinatieri also needs three field-goal attempts to pass Gary Anderson (672) for second all-time, and one game played to pass George Blanda (340) for No. 4.Can’t kick about that.The case for sticking with C.J. Beathard the rest of the 2018 season The San Francisco 49ers suffered a potentially devastating blow on Sunday, losing Jimmy Garoppolo to what is believe to be a torn ACL. Once confirmed, the injury would end his season, and leave the 49ers hoping he can get healthy in time for the starting of 2019 training camp.After Garoppolo went down, backup quarterback C.J. Beathard entered the game for one snap. He appeared to throw a fourth and goal touchdown pass to George Kittle, only to have it negated due to a bogus offensive pass interference call on Kyle Juszczyk. The 49ers kicked a field goal and the offense never returned to the field.After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan and several players on the roster expressed confidence in and support for Beathard as the 49ers starting quarterback. They saw him take some lumps in five starts and a half of relief and stand tall during a rough time for the team. The 49ers got their first win of the season during his time, but lost the other four starts. It was not pretty football, but they had reached the point where Brian Hoyer was not going to offer enough of a look to the future — and Jimmy Garoppolo was eventually set to replace him.Now that Garoppolo is done for the year, plenty have raised the question of adding a quarterback outside the organization. Colin Kaepernick is a regularly mentioned name, but also we have heard some people throw Jay Cutler out there. He would appear to be plenty busy with “Very Cavallari,” but even without his newfound reality show stardom, playing out the string with Beathard makes the most sense given the state of this team.We might as well first address the Colin Kaepernick elephant in the room. I think he would be a general upgrade, but Kyle Shanahan has seemingly made it clear he does not think Kaepernick is a fit for what he wants to do. We can debate this till the end of time, but it seems all but certain the 49ers will not be signing Kaepernick.Tim Kawakami took a look at some of the various options out there the team could consider. People are talking about Nick Foles, Matt Schaub, Tyrod Taylor, and a host of others. And yet, at this point in the 49ers rebuilding process, rolling with Beathard makes the most sense.I don’t doubt there are plenty who think we already know everything we need to know about C.J. Beathard. Last year, he came on in the middle of the year, and while he proved he could take a hit, he was not exactly overly impressive. But that was also the earliest stages of the 49ers rebuilding process. He now has a second offseason under his belt with Kyle Shanahan, and the 49ers have added talent on the offensive side of the ball.The 49ers were a fringe playoff contender at best heading into this season, and with the inconsistencies of the defense through the first three weeks, fringe might have been a generous term. Without Jimmy Garoppolo, this is not a playoff team. Similar to the 2017 draft, this position group appears to have a slew of players who will be targeted on Day 2. The Cowboys capitalized on the landscape that year as they grabbed two of them - Chidobe Awuze (Rd 2) and Jourdan Lewis (Rd 3). Cornerback may not be at the top of their “need” list, but the talent at this point in the draft could cause them to go after one.LATE SECOND/EARLY THIRDThere are some really good skill positions expected to be available during this part of the draft. There is no Saquon Barkley in this year’s crop of running backs and most of them will start going after Day 1.Darrell Henderson (Memphis), Miles Sanders (Penn State), Devin Singletary (Florida Atlantic), and Rodney Anderson (Oklahoma) are some good second-round options. Even the classes top running back, Josh Jacobs (Alabama) is projected to fall very late in the first round. Ben Powers (Oklahoma), Elgton Jenkins (Mississippi State), and Erik McCoy (Texas A&M) are some great value picks in the third round. Sikkema explains that the lack of talent at guard in the front of the draft could cause teams to reach for players resulting a possible run on the position. If that happens, it can deplete the guard options in later rounds.The defensive tackle position is deep all across the draft. There are great options early and there are great options late. No one quite understands the components and inherent value of a long snapper like Mannelly: who played 16 years for the Bears, and was robbed of a Pro Bowl, All-Pro, and MVP selection in most of those seasons.
