Madden 18: Good new modes, still an average game

When I concluded my writeup on Madden 17, I challenged Electronic Arts to generate something worth returning year after year. It’s not really that I don’t like football games, it’s that I don’t like paying $60 year in year out for the same football gaming with minor improvements. Given the little improvements year in year out, it feels increasingly more baffling why Madden isn’t a $20 update (answer: find it for $60). This year it really attempts to create you imagine that things underneath the hood are changed.

First is its much touted Frostbite Engine. Whatever that is certainly, it can make the graphics look better still than before.

Don’t misunderstand me, Madden 18’s graphics are improved, though marginally. I guess this means they are the best yet, but it’s not necessarily something to bank and market on. To be fair, this can be coming from somebody that hasn’t spent the cash to get a PlayStation Pro, so maybe the graphical upgrades are very much better when you have a higher end system. I’ll withhold judgment on that front. The good news is no less than the character artwork don't resembles the cast of The Night of The Living Dead. Coaches like Kyle Shanahan actually resemble their real world counterparts. It’s a noticable difference, but that didn’t have to have a graphics overhaul to try and do. Let’s also remember a football game isn’t exactly something to tout character designs and review accordingly.

Beyond Frostbite comes a whole new passing mechanic that somehow has you messing around with little meter sticks to obtain your pass perfect into the right part of traffic. It doesn’t work perfectly. Much like when kicking should be reinvented each year (and you also scratch your mind to why in the event it worked fine), it’s yet another mechanic EA handed in an intern and inspired to improve so that they could tout a whole new feature amongst gamers. This feature can be quite much unneeded.

It also provides you with the option between Arcade, Simulation and Competitive when you choose to play your games. Arcade is much more user-friendly, requiring less nuanced input plus more fun factor. While Simulation is...well what Madden is here to be. Arcade mode can be a nice touch, but it’s this is not on the level of Tecmo Super Bowl or NFL Blitz. It feels a lot more like a dumbed down version of Madden, not something that’s pick-up and play—similar to playing Ninja Dog mode in Ninja Gaiden. Madden simply isn’t an activity that arcade mode could work—that last statement is actually personal opinion and also all my polarizing criticisms leveled towards franchise , that may be the one I can understand arguments against. Arcade mode isn’t bad, in reality I’d say it’s an excellent move—it just doesn’t take action for https://www.mmoah.com/nfl-coins
