Pench National Park - The Land of Mowgli

Pench national park got its name from the Pench river in Seoni and Chhindware districts and is located to the east of Satpura hills. Back in 1977, it was declared as a sanctuary. Later in 1983, it was declared as a national park and in 1992, it got raised as a Tiger reserve.
The Pench national park is well-known for river-rafting. The national park also received the “The Best Management Award”, in 2011 .Total area covered by this park is 758 sq kms, it's divided into 2 areas Mowgli Pench Sanctuary and Indira Priyadarshini Pench national park.
This place inspired Joseph Rudyard Kipling to write an everlasting children’s story, “The Jungle Book”. The Pench national park bring stills from Rudyard Kipling’s book “The Jungle Book”. The place exhibits Mowgli’s adventure and encounter with Sher Khan. One can image Mowgli swaying and climbing trees and the roar of Sher Khan which makes the jungle a silence locality.

This park has good variety of tigers, approx. 40 and 210 species of birds. A visit to this national park spotting tigers, natural vegetation, and species of varieties of birds can flash off memories of thrilling experience of Mowgli’s clash with Sher Khan.
Meet the renowned chart-buster Panthera tigris of the forest “T 15/Collarwali”. The local officials named her because of the radio collar round her neck. This Panthera tigris gained popularity after giving birth to 22 cubs- incomparable record set in India.
Forest:
The forest is covered by dense, dry ephemeral forest having 1200 plant species. Several rare species of plants facing extinction are found here. This forest has gained ethnobotanical importance and predominating species here are shrubs and grassy patches.
Best time to visit:
The best time to visit this park is from October till June. However, foreign tourist prefer to visit from November till April. If you want to grab good summer discounts from resorts and lodges then visit this park during May-June.

1. By train: Nearest railway station is Nagpur which is about 105kms. The next
station is Jabalpur 215kms.
2. By Air: Nagpur and Jabalpur airport
