LONDON， Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- A former English football coach at the center of a major sex abuse scandal was Tuesday charged with eight offences of sexual assault against a boy aged under 14.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the charges against 62-years-old Barry Bennell were laid after it received a file of evidence from police relating to allegations of historical abuse.

The CPS said Bennell， a former youth coach at Crewe Alexandra， is scheduled to appear before South Cheshire Magistrates' Court on December 14.

The story has rocked Britain's football community after a more than 20 former professional players have so far stated they had been abused as boy players.

It emerged Monday that Bennell had been found unconscious and taken to hospital last Friday at an address in Stevenage. No details have been given about the reason for his health issue.

The scandal led to a debate in the British House of Commons Tuesday when the Secretary of State for Culture， Media and Sport， Karen Bradley， was asked what the government is doing to support victims of historical sexual abuse in football， and what steps are being taken to help to ensure that there is no repeat of it.

Bradley said: "Child sex abuse is an exceptionally vile crime， and all of government take it very seriously indeed， as I know this House does. Children up and down the country are able to play football thanks to the dedication of thousands of adults， many of them volunteers. The vast majority have no stain on their character. However， where people who work with children betray their trust， the effect is devastating."

The minister paid tribute to the players， many who played for big name clubs during their careers， who "have summoned up the courage to speak out".

"It is vital that they know that their voices will be heard， whether they are speaking about historical crimes or about anything that is happening currently. Coaches and parents have a duty of care to children and must also speak out where they suspect abuse."

The Football Association has instructed an independent leading barrister who is an expert in child protection， to look at what the FA and clubs knew， and when， and what action was or should have been taken.

Bradley said she is to convene a meeting with Chief Constable Simon Bailey， the national police lead on child abuse as well as the FA and others to discuss the latest situation.

A helpline set by the children's charity the NSPCC， in response to the football scandal， has so far received more than 250 calls. Seven separate police investigations are currently underway looking to abuse claims against team coaches.

Greg Clarke， chairman of the FA in England said Tuesday the football child sex abuse scandal is one of the biggest crises in the history of the Football Association.

ISLAMABAD， Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan Information Minister Pervez Rashid has resigned over leakage of details of a top security meeting in section of the media， local officials said Saturday.

Musadaq Malik， spokesman for the Prime Minister， confirmed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had sought resignation from the information minister.

The Interior Ministry had started investigation as to who shared sensitive information of a meeting that was presided over by the prime minister and was attended by the top military leadership and key ministers.

An English daily had published details of the meeting which given an impression that there are "differences over policies between the political and military leaders."

Later the government and the military had taken a serious note of the reports and the government had initially banned the reporter from leaving the country. The order was later withdrawn.

A statement from the prime minister said the planned story related to the National Security Council and the National Action Plan meetings published in an English daily on Oct. 6 was a "breach of national security."

"Evidence available so far points to a lapse on part of the Information Minister who has been directed to step down from office to enable holding of an independent and detailed inquiry，" the statement said.

The Prime Minister's Office said that an inquiry committee， including senior officers of the Inter-Services Intelligence， Military Intelligence and Intelligence Bureau， is being formed by the government to clearly apportion blame， identify interests and motives and expose all those responsible for this episode for stern action in national interest.

Malik said that the former Information Minister cannot be held responsible for the leakage of the information unless the investigation is completed.

"The investigation is underway and will be completed soon. Results of the investigation would be made public，" he said， adding that the Interior Minister will announce details of the matter at a press conference.
