Epic to buy 'Rocket League' creator Psyonix (update) |
Rocket League is a car soccer video game developed and published by Psyonix. In the overall game, players can succeed through technology, equipment and the Rocket League Items. But obviously, today we are not talking about the game itself, but about the epic purchase Of 'Rocket League' creator Psyonix.
Epic decided to get exclusive offers for its gaming store, now including buying well-known studios. The company has acquired Rocket League creator Psyonix, an unknown number, and will bring in-vehicle football games to the Epic Games store by the end of 2019. Needless to say, people are worried about the fate of Rocket League, worrying about whether it will disappear from Steam? Epic said it has "unannounced plans" to stop selling the game on Steam, but it only guarantees that existing customers "will continue to receive support."
Psyonix said the deal would help it expand the game in a way that was "not possible before." For example, Epic's help "significantly increased" the scope of e-sports activities. Since the Unreal Tournament era, the studio has been a partner of Epic (which helped Unreal Tournament 2004, Gears of War and Mass Effects 3) and said the union “has made sense in many ways”. It even has a close relationship with Raleigh’s office, relatively close to Epic’s hometown, Cary.
The transaction will be completed by the end of May or early June as long as it is approved.
It is not surprising that Psyonix welcomes the trade because of its relatively small size. However, there is no doubt that this will cause some gamers to misunderstand. For games that haven't been released on Steam, Epic gets an exclusive offer, which is another story - when the company is likely to launch games that have been popular on Steam for years, this is another matter. While you may not see more acquisitions, it can be frustrating if you are a novice and face the possibility of using different storefronts and ancillary services than friends who already have games. This may mean that players will have fewer opportunities to participate in the Rocket League Crates.
Update 5/1 6:30 pm ET: Epic has clarified that it did not have a clear plan to cancel the Rocket League from Steam. An epic spokesperson said, "The long-term plan will be announced in the future." We have updated the article accordingly. This does not guarantee that the Rocket League will remain on Steam indefinitely - only Epic does not confirm the plan in some way.
