Students: Read the entire article, then tell us fortnite items :For you, what are some of the benefits and drawbacks of playing Fortnite? Perhaps you have met acquaintances or friends online? Have you heard any skills, like teamwork, communication and spatial awareness? Do your playing habits stop you from having other experiences or caring for your duties? Do you feel like the game is addictive? Are you or any of your friends Fortnite addicts? Is Fortnite a diversion at your college? Do students play it in class or during free time?

It seems like only yesterday I was reporting on the first couple of colleges that were starting to give out eSports scholarships, and everybody was laughing. Well, some people still might be laughing, but the practice is considerably more prevalent today, and moving to bigger and larger programs. And today Fortnite has been caught up in the tendency, because of course it's.

The first Fortnite: Battle Royale college scholarship is here. It is from Ashland University in Ohio, also will provide top Fortnite players $4,000 worth of tuition to join their newly formed esports program and compete on a squads team of four. This group will combine their other esports offerings, including Overwatch and League of Legends. Open tryouts for the group will be announced sometime later on.

Ashland is a small school, just 4,600 students, also rated 223rd in the nation by US News and World Report. Some have accused smaller schools such as this of attempting to utilize esports as a publicity stunt, and while certain, it may partly be a marketing tactic, I do not see any harm in it. These pupils are getting tuition cash, then getting an education because of this. Nothing wrong with this, and that I don't see why scholarships shouldn't be awarded for video games in the event the school is determined sufficient to establish a dedicated program for this. Why not? And no, I'm not getting sucked in to this "are esports real sports" Disagreement for the thousandth time, as I believe it does not matter, and also the fact is that we exist in an era when colleges are ready to pay people to play with video games, and millions of people are watching these events live and online streams. Whatever esports "is," it is important, and hugely relevant to younger generations particularly.
