Streamer Interview: Engineering Eternity |
This week we interviewed one among our most renowned guide-makers, Engineering Eternity! He has contributed an array of valuable video guides for first time and existing players alike and possesses helped a huge number of exiles make their strategies Wraeclast.
Hi Engineering Eternity, thanks for taking part from the POE Currency interview! Please introduce yourself.
Thank you very much for that opportunity Bex! My name is Brian, generally known as Engineering Eternity, and I am a twenty-five year old Path of Exile enthusiast. Not addicted. Nope.
You are well-known from the Path of Exile community foremost as a possible author on the various video guides, specially the Beginner's Guide series. Where did your desire to help you new players are derived from and why have you choose the format took action now?
This can be a common question lots of people have talked about. It comes from the combination of things, but mainly that it was all my friends and ineptitude with learning and playing Path of Exile after I introduced these phones it. There would be non-stop repeat questions and it turned out so difficult to verbalize all in the different mechanics of the sport to them without well outlined visuals and examples (and it also is understandable with how complex and hidden many from the mechanics in Path of Exile are). So I would always try to look around for any comprehensive newcomers guide for the kids, but much of them were outdated or didn’t cover each of the important topics, which cause more confusion. So I figured, you should make my personal? I have played countless hours since open beta and I should be able to making my personal full-fledged ‘Beginner’s Guide’! With that I attempted to cover the many topics a whole new player planned to learn about inside an order that made sense, and hopefully allow it to be as patch independent as it can be.
Since I had a reliable background in self taught video editing and intensely enjoyed it, making classy movies with my girlfriends all through middle school and working to the media crew in secondary school, I figured you should get back into utilizing those tools again to generate the guide enjoyable to observe visually and audibly. Along with this, I decided it will be best to script everything out before you make the guide. So since I been with them written out too, it made by far the most sense to add that script by using it so people can just browse the guide, watch it or both!
How a lot of time goes into making your typical video, from concepting the playback quality, to writing a script, to creating the final edit?
Even after you have more streamlined together with the process, as you will notice in my How I Make a Guide video, nevertheless takes me a long time for you to create a full guide video. Each video is unique and I can type of break them on to three main categories: Build Guides, Boss Guides & General Guides.
Build Guides have gotten an excellent templatization for many years allowing me to reuse many assets as an alternative to having to start anew each video. They may also be based around playing knowledge in lieu of researched information. After I have put time in playing and leveling the build, these guides generally take me 8-10 hours to make from writing the script, creating animations, gathering footage, voiceover and final editing.
Boss Guides may differ depending for the complexity on the boss. These videos involve some templatization for them since I have elected so many of them, but generally I have new animations due to your time spacing bewteen barefoot and shoes. These videos also require research, play experience, damage testing and calculations. I are apt to have specific characters I use for these particular to gather boss damage values and reverse calculate from captured footage health loss vs my mitigation chain. That in-itself takes a very long time ensuring I get valid data. In the end, they take around 15-25 hours to accomplish.
General Guides almost encompass all of the rest with the guides, for instance Endgame Guides, Mechanics, Leveling Guides plus more. Most of those have no templatization, so I should create everything new based around the guide. Some these require plenty of research, much like the Life Leech Guide, while others such as Leveling Series require a good deal of play experience. These will vary highly into their completion time, but I would the longest of the were the Making Currency and Labyrinth Guide, each easily taking easily 35+ hours.
