It’s still possible Melifonwu could be placed on injured reserve for the Raiders should he clear waivers. But it speaks volumes that the Raiders weren’t interested in waiting until after the roster cutdown to place him on IR.Melifonwu was drafted to be the answer to the Raiders’ lingering questions about covering tight ends. He was to team up with Karl Joseph to be the long term safety tandem. That obviously didn’t happen.The move to waive Melifonwu was made in order to add free agent cornerback Dominique Rodgers Cromartie.
