Your weekly offensive line review is here

and it’s glorious, as usual. There Youth Matt Bryant Jersey are two offensive lines that we need to highlight before we get to the video. The New Orleans Saints put up 45 points last Sunday as they took down the previously undefeated Los Angeles Rams. The attention for this performance generally goes to the skill position players. I understand that. They throw the ball, catch it, run it and score the touchdowns. They get the glory. But I’m here to give the glory to the Saints offensive line. This unit has been the best in football over the last two seasonsThe Saints offensive line, last season, was second in adjusted line yards and second in sack rate according to Football Outsiders. They had the least amount of stuffed runs, i.e. runs that were either for no gain or tackled for loss. Also, they were first in the NFL in runs over 10 yards, which is a product of the offensive line and their exceptional running back tandem. The Saints offensive line isn’t at the top of the rankings this year, but they’re still balling. They’ve only allowed nine sacks this season, best in the NFL. The unit is fifth in adjusted line yards, and first in least amount of times stuffed behind the line of scrimmage. What makes their rushing game even more impressive is their ability to run multiple schemes well. We see teams like Atlanta and San Francisco major in outside zone. We see Pittsburgh run gap schemes with their big offensive line. The Saints run it all. They run zone, gap (pulling backside guard) and man schemes (pulling a front side guard). They run plays with a fullback and without. They are so multiple it’s almost impossible to defend. So how did the Saints build their offensive line? They did something that shouldn’t be as rare as it is in the NFL. They built their offensive line to match their scheme and http://www.falconsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-desmond-trufant-jersey , most importantly, to help Drew Brees. He’s a smaller quarterback who needs to see his passing lanes, so the Saints have always built their line with massive guards, going back to Jahri Evans, Ben Grubbs and Carl Nicks. They pair those big bodies who can keep the pocket firm with big athletic tackles who can manage the width of the pocket. The Saints have used the draft, free agency, and trades to build this unit.Terron Armstead at left tackle is having his best season of his career. It’s no coincidence after spending this offseason with offensive line specialist Duke Manyweather that he’s staying healthy and becoming a monster. He’s physical, but so fluid. He was a high-upside draft pick, and he’s living up that billing.Andrus Peat has settled nicely into that left guard spot after being shuffled around the line for the first year after he was drafted out of Stanford. Peat is a big body who can make every block imaginable. You’d think a guy of his size, 6’7 and 315 pounds, would have limited athleticism, especially out in space or cutting off the backside on a zone run away from him. Nope, he can do it all. He might be one of the more underrated guards in the NFL.Max Unger Andy Levitre Jersey , a fellow Oregon Duck and good friend of mine, was traded from Seattle for Jimmy Graham. I’d say the Saints won that trade. Unger, like Peat, is big for his position. There are not many 6’5 centers in the NFL. He originally played left tackle in college, so he’s an exceptional athlete. He’s tough and smart, and the perfect center to partner with his line mates and Brees.Larry Warford was added in free agency. He brings toughness to this unit, and he knows how use his leverage to send defenders flying. He’s not big, but he plays that way because of his technique. He’s been a great addition to this unit. Finally, Ryan Ramczyk, a second-year player out of his Wisconsin who was drafted in the first round last year, is a do-it-all player. They didn’t have an opening for him last year with Zach Strief manning the right tackle spot, and they had just signed Warford. However, they knew Zach was nearing the end of his time there and drafting his replacement was a smart move. Ramczyk started the first two games of 2016 at left guard Authentic Devonta Freeman Jersey , and then moved over to right tackle when after Strief got hurt. He’s still there, and he’s balling out. Ramczyk is my favorite example of how to draft offensive linemen. He’s the product of an offensive line factory in Wisconsin, so he was ready to play in the NFL as soon as he was drafted. Did he have the upside potential that everyone clings to when drafting linemen? No. What mattered was that he could play on day one, and with reduced practice times and limited hitting in practice, teams need linemen who can play now. We see time and again how these high-upside lineman never pan out, while the guys who just do their jobs seem to work well in the NFL. Bravo to the Saints. The Patriots OL allows them to get creativeLet’s move over the New England Patriots. These dudes are crushing it upfront. They have a converted wide receiver in Cordarrelle Patterson rushing for almost 5 yards a carry. Credit to the New England coaching staff for making the schemes easy for Patterson. Watch this video and check out these holes! They are huge. The big fellas upfront are moving defenders off the ball. It’s awesome to watch. Rutgers scored a touchdown against Michigan, and not just any touchdown, a really long touchdown. Isaih Pacheco scoring that touchdown was highly unexpected, due to the recent nature of both teams. This is easily the longest offensive play Michigan’s allowed all season. Previously, they’d only allowed one play over 50 yards and none over 60 this year. For Rutgers, they’ve only had one play since 80-plus yards since 2014. They haven’t had a play over 50 yards yet this season. For these reasons, this play deserves a breakdown. Rutgers offensive coordinator John McNulty has shown some interesting creativity in spots this season when his team is hilariously out-talented. On the 80-yard play, Rutgers uses Michigan’s trademark aggression against them.Basically Youth Ricardo Allen Jersey , the Scarlet Knights get everyone flowing to their left besides two players. Rutgers leaves defensive end Chase Winovich (red box) unblocked, and they take care of him with motion by one of the players out of the backfield. They get the bonus because safety Tyree Kinnel rotates down hard into run support as well. Pacheco makes a cutback move, and it’s all over. From the end zone angle: my God, look at this hole and note how safety Brad Hawkins is apparently calling things out. But he’s too late actually pursuing the play and reacts a beat late. From there, Pacheco ever so slightly uses the ref as a screen to bust out on the second level. And a big shoutout goes to Pacheco for finishing the run.Pacheco was basically the entire offense for Rutgers. The running back has been primed for a breakout all season, and this was it against arguably the best defense in college football. He had 142 of Rutgers’ 193 sack-adjusted rushing yards, 80 of which came on this play. Rutgers certainly didn’t win, but on this play they showed they can score a touchdown against Michigan at home. That’s something they didn’t do the last time these two teams met at the birthplace of the sport.
