Speed is probably the big thing

DALLAS (AP) — Mattias Ekholm started overtime in the penalty box. He finished it off with the winning goal.Ekholm scored 2:27 into overtime Ryan Murray Jersey , and the Nashville Predators rallied to beat the Dallas Stars 5-4 on Saturday.Ekholm was penalized for cross checking with 14 seconds left in regulation, 29 seconds after teammate Roman Josi scored the game-tying goal.Nashville killed off that power play for the first part of OT, and then Ekholm took a cross-ice pass from Kyle Turris and sent the puck over Stars goalie Ben Bishop for his third of the season.“A good regroup by (P.K. Subban) up to (Turris) and he found me,” Ekholm said. “It was nice to see it go in.“I think (Dallas’ Jason Spezza) played an act on the penalty. There’s not much I can do about it. Good job by the guys on killing it.”Nashville (13-3-0) improved to 8-0 on the road this season.Josi and Ryan Johansen each had a goal and an assist for the Predators. Ryan Hartman and Yannick Weber also scored, and Juuse Saros had 20 saves.Spezza, Tyler Seguin, Tyler Pitlick and Denis Gurianov scored for Dallas (9-6-2), which lost for the third time in four games. Bishop finished with 29 stops.Gurianov got his first NHL point in the third period of his third game. He deflected a rising slap shot from the blue line by Ben Gleason, who was playing in his first NHL game after only 11 pro games for Texas of the American Hockey League.“I woke up this morning with a phone call at 7:30,” Gleason said. “In about 15 minutes I jumped in the shower and packed a bag. I drove right here (from Cedar Park, Texas).“I don’t think I felt my leg until the second period.”Pitlick scored his third of the season 13:05 into the first http://www.bluejacketsshoponline.com/authentic-sergei-bobrovsky-jersey , and the Stars opened a 3-1 lead on goals by Seguin and Spezza in the second period.Hartman got the Predators on the board 12 seconds into the second, and Johansen and Weber tied the game again with goals in the first 1:54 of the third.“No game is ever out of reach if you can do the right things,” Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said. “I thought the first shift of the third period was really big by the Johansen line. They went down, got a goal and shortly another one after that.”Dallas grabbed the lead for the last time when Gurianov scored with 11:02 left. The Predators had a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal and the only two power plays in the first period, but the Stars scored the only goal.Dallas scored on its first power play when Spezza sent in a slap shot from the left circle at 14:32 of the second.NOTES: Dallas’ depleted defense corps received reinforcements. Joel Hanley and the 20-year-old Gleason were recalled from Texas, and the Stars traded a seventh-round draft pick in 2020 to Buffalo for 30-year-old Taylor Fedun. Roman Polak was sick and couldn’t play Saturday. John Klingberg is expected to miss four weeks after surgery Friday to repair his broken left hand. Marc Methot (lower-body injury), Stephen Johns (neck/head) and Connor Carrick (ankle) also are out. Hanley and Gleason played. Methot could be back for Monday’s game, when Fedun would make his Dallas debut. … Predators F Viktor Arvidsson (lower body) returned after missing three games.UP NEXTPredators: Play the third game in a five-game trip Monday at Anaheim.Stars: Continue a four-game homestand against Columbus on Monday. Warren Foegele carried his Charlotte Checkers bag out of the visiting locker room and insisted he hadn’t yet earned an upgrade.Foegele needs a new bag now because he beat the odds and made the Carolina Hurricanes‘ opening night roster with an impressive preseason. Only reigning Art Ross Trophy winner Connor McDavid and last year’s rookie of the year Mathew Barzal had more preseason assists than Foegele, the top surprise player to make an NHL team out of training camp.“I just came to camp, just put my head down and tried to work hard and tried to make good plays,” Foegele said. “I’m a hard-working player and I think I can fit anywhere in the lineup. I think I can grind Womens Seth Jones Jersey , I think I can make plays, but I think the work ethic is what I really take a lot of pride in and that’s what I try to show.”With seven points in eight preseason games — only nine players around the league had more — Foegele beat out other forwards on one-way contracts to make Carolina’s roster. He’s a Rod Brind’Amour kind of player because the coach said Foegele is always around the play and “even if he doesn’t produce points or whatever, you just feel like he wins his shifts.”Foegele was at his best against the defending Stanley Cup champion Capitals when he forced turnovers and set up a pair of goals. The late-blooming 22-year-old who went from the University of New Hampshire to the Ontario Hockey League to the American Hockey League doesn’t stand out with his skill but can do a little bit of everything.“He really can skate and also he can score some goals,” Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho said. “He’s not just a grinder. I think he can really make some plays, too.”Foegele will get that chance this season. Here are some other players who surprised by making NHL season-opening rosters:MIKHAIL VOROBYEV, FLYERSThe 6-foot-2, 194-pound Russian center didn’t just challenge for a spot with Philadelphia. General manager Ron Hextall said the 2015 fourth-round pick broke down the door and forced the organization’s hand.Vorobyev led the Flyers with seven preseason points and has stood out since Day One of training camp.“It’s what you’re looking for with your young players: Come in and make an impact, and he did,” Hextall said. “He’s a real good two-way player. He’s not a young guy that you’re afraid to put him out there because of the defensive side of the puck.”MATHIEU JOSEPH, LIGHTNINGAn injury to forward Tyler Johnson opened up a role for Joseph on Tampa Bay’s third line and second power-play unit. Joseph’s quickness is his most noticeable attribute, and he made the Lighting in large part because he led them in preseason scoring with eight points on four goals and four assists.“Speed is probably the big thing Sonny Milano Jersey ,” coach Jon Cooper told reporters Monday. “What we really liked in the preseason: He was finishing a lot.”DILLON DUBE, FLAMESIt would have been very easy for Calgary to keep Curtis Lazar, but GM Brad Treliving knew Dube would play for the Flames someday. The 20-year-old made sure it was now.Dube had four goals in the preseason and could open the season on the third line with Derek Ryan and free agent signing James Neal, giving him an opportunity to put up plenty of points when the games count.JESPERI KOTKANIEMI, CANADIENSIt’s no surprise the top two picks from June’s draft, Buffalo defenseman Rasmus Dahlin and Carolina forward Andrei Svechnikov, are in the NHL right away. So maybe it shouldn’t be a shock about Kotkaniemi, but Montreal seemed to take him third as a long-range investment.Instead, the Finnish center was one of the Canadiens‘ best players in exhibition action and never looked out of place. In an organization short on big centers, Kotkaniemi is a welcome addition right away.
