Local police have arrested a suspected arsonist after 17 people were killed and 32 injured Tuesday morning in a bus blaze in Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

A total of 350 policemen were dispatched to search for Ma Yongping Jordan Hicks Jersey , who is the main suspect in a bus fire that started in front of a furniture store at 7:08 am in Helan county, Yinchuan, capital city of Ningxia, according to the local authorities.

Ma was arrested at 4:23 pm after threatening to jump off a building near a school in Helan, the CCTV News reported.

A photo showing what was described as Ma's suicide letter circulated on the social media during the day. The letter, purportedly signed by Ma, said he was a migrant worker who had been unable to get pay owed to him for three years. The letter's authenticity has not been confirmed by the authorities.

In addition to the 17 killed, eight were severely burned while 24 others suffered moderate or slight burns, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

"I was sitting at the front of the bus when suddenly people started screaming 'Fire! The bus is on fire!,'" Hu Yuexiang, a 26-year-old man told Xinhua.

"When I turned around, the flames were racing toward me very quickly and before I knew it my shoes were on fire," said Hu.

Hu said the passengers rushed toward the front door and pleaded with the driver to open it.

"I thought the bus was about to explode, and I was going to die," Hu said. "Then the door opened and we all rushed out."

Hu added that the bus quickly "turned into a skeleton." Pictures posted on Sina Weibo appeared to show the entire bus engulfed by flames.

"When I boarded the bus, all the seats were taken, and lots of people were standing," Wang Yongfeng, another injured passenger told Xinhua. His hands are swollen and covered in blisters.

The bus driver, a 40-year-old that has been driving buses for six years, is assisting police in their investigation after suffering minor burns in the incident.

More than 40 people were on board when the bus caught fire, according to the official Weibo account of the Yinchuan government's publicity office.

Yinchuan Public Transport Co. Ltd, the company in charge of the operation of the bus, has begun a safety check of all its vehicles following the incident

All the injured are being treated at Ningxia Medical University General Hospital, and medical experts from cities including Beijing and Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi Province are heading to the hospital to provide support.
