Why I am excited for the Ravens this season

Here’s why we’re excited about the Baltimore RavensThese past few years the Ravens have broken the hearts of their fans in the waning minutes of the season. But the 2018 season feels different.Joe Flacco isn’t throwing to players who need to develop. He’s surrounded by big-name receivers such as Michael Crabtree, John Brown and Willie Snead IV. Since 2012, Joe’s seen a revolving receiving unit that hasn’t lived up to expectations. But now, the team spent money and draft picks to give the quarterback everything he needs to succeed.Joe’s known as a player who throws frequently to his tight ends, so the team went out and spent a first- and third-round pick signing two new capable starters. Both Hayden Hurst and Mark Andrews are looking great, which means this offense has no excuse. The weapons are there, the line looks solid and Joe’s been throwing heat in practice against a strong defense.No longer do I expect this team to lean on the run-game and hope for Alex Collins to make something from nothing. They have Crabtree, Brown and Snead IV to move the chains and score points. There’s a chance a few games will be out of reach for the opponent by the fourth quarter, which isn’t common in Ravens’ games. Rather than pray Justin Tucker can kick 12 points on the board or the defense gets a turnover in the red-zone to stave off a comeback, we can see touchdowns from receivers. We can cheer as the team leads by two or more possessions with only minutes to spare. The offense isn’t the only reason to be excited, though it’s hard not to focus only on their new additions. The defense didn’t lose anything other than their prevent-defense running coordinator, Dean Pees. In fact, they added players. Tavon Young, one of the best rookie corners back in 2016, returns with tenacity. Watching Tim Williams also become a threat with his moves on the outside leave this team with a possible surplus at pass-rusher, something every coach dreams of. There will be times we could see Za’Darius Smith, Suggs, Judon, Williams and even Tyus Bowser on plays to punish the quarterback. I believe this is possible because unlike Pees, Don ‘Wink’ Martindale isn’t afraid to bring the heat. He’s known as a more aggressive play-calling coordinator. If he has the secondary capable of playing man coverage, combined with a front seven with blitz-package skills, he’s going to dial up the heat against opposing offenses.I also can’t forget to mention the best kicker in NFL history, Justin Tucker. Any time this team is within forty yards of the endzone C.J. Mosley Jersey , Tucker’s in range. When the offense does stagnate, which happens to nearly all teams, they can’t score points. Meanwhile, the Ravens just need a single punt to flip the field and a turnover to add three points to their total. It’s unfair how far Tucker can kick from with the accuracy he does. Crossing mid-field is demoralizing to other defenses because they know Tucker and the wolf-pack are ready to set up and score.Yes, there are many reasons to be excited for the following years, namely Lamar Jackson and the rookies, but this season isn’t a wash. Joe looks great, the receivers can catch and the defense is improving. With a little under three minutes to go, Joe Flacco and the offense took the field with an opportunity to tie the game up with a touchdown and a two-point conversion. On third down, Joe Flacco fumbled the football, and Cincinnati recovered the ball to essentially secure the victory. The Ravens lost 34-23, and they are now 1-1 on the season. This loss could prove to be quite costly as this was a divisional and conference loss, but the bigger issue is that this game brought up more questions than answers. 1. Baltimore’s offensive line needs to be remodeledThe Ravens allowed four sacks, but that stat does not portray the entire story. Flacco was constantly under pressure Authentic Hayden Hurst Jersey , and the offense struggled as a result. It was a poor effort from Ronnie Stanley, James Hurst, and Matt Skura. Stanley was beaten early and often, while also drawing an untimely false start penalty. He continues to be beaten by more athletic edge rushers due to poor positioning. In addition to terrible pass-blocking, there were no running lanes for Alex Collins or Javorius Allen. Baltimore finished with 66 rushing yards, and they failed to establish a running game for the second consecutive week. For an offense that relies heavily on the run, this should be a huge concern.The biggest question surrounding this position group is a pretty obvious one; why is Orlando Brown Jr. not the starting right tackle. Although he is a rookie and showed some of his flaws during the preseason, it is hard to envision that he would be worse than Hurst. 2. Lamar Jackson should not be the starting quarterback, yetDespite eclipsing 300 passing yards in a regular season game for the first time since 2016, Joe Flacco had a horrible showing. A huge concern was that during the plays where he was not under pressure, Flacco made inaccurate throws. Flacco finished with 375 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. His first interception was one of the worst plays of his entire career as he completely misread the coverage, and threw a pass directly to the safety, Jessie Bates III. Regardless of how poorly Flacco played, the notion that Jackson could come in and produce better results right now with the way their offensive line is currently constructed is invalid. Jackson without a doubt would be able to evade pass-rushers better Youth Tony Jefferson Jersey , but he has displayed he is not ready yet. 3. The Ravens have an issue at safetyAmong all of the issues regarding the defense, Cincinnati’s game plan was clear: attack the slot (Tavon Young) and the safeties. Tony Jefferson was picked on throughout the night. He committed defensive pass interference in the red zone, while also allowing several big catches.Eric Weddle also had a rough night in both coverage and tackling. On one of A.J. Green’s three touchdowns, Weddle took a terrible angle, which allowed Green to cut to the left side of the field en route to scoring a touchdown. As a safety, his job is to prevent plays like the one mentioned above from happening, but he failed to do so. 4. LB Kenny Young is the real steal of the 2018 draft classIn a game where there will not be many positive takeaways for the Ravens, Kenny Young was the shining star. He was excellent not only in coverage but run defense as well. Young’s greatest weakness coming out of college was his poor instincts against the run, but it was a different story against the Bengals. Young has without a doubt earned the starting weakside linebacker spot over Patrick Onwuasor. 5. A roster move could be coming soonJanarion Grant fumbled for the second straight game, and unlike week one, the weather was not a factor in this matchup. Grant had an impressive 51-yard return against the Bills, but he could not find any room to run in week two. He has been a disappointment thus far as the team’s primary returner, and his ball security issues could cost him a roster spot. The Ravens have Tim White and Cyrus Jones on their practice squad, and both players are capable of serving as the primary returner.
