Epic will be big on professional competitive Fortnite play. The developer announced today who's will provide $100 million (!!!!!) in funding for Fortnite Items prize pools inside 2018-2019 season. In a brief post, Epic said hello wants Fortnite competitive play to become "more inclusive" and devoted to "the time saving benefits of playing and watching the experience."
"We're getting behind competitive play in the big way, but our approach is going to be different," Epic said. "We plan to get more inclusive, and focused about the joy of playing and watching the experience."
More details for the structure of tournaments and eligible platforms are going to be announced "inside the weeks ahead," so keep checking back with GameSpot for much more.
This can be a really big issue, partly because the $100 million prize is a lot more than double the $38 million as a whole prize money that

Valve's Dota 2 paid for in 2017 across all of their tournaments, in line with E-Sports Earnings (via CNBC). The International, that is Valve's massive Dota 2 event, paid the biggest prize pool in gaming history recently with almost $25 million to the single event. For another point of comparison, the inaugural Overwatch League tournament pays out an overall of $3.5 million in prize money because of its entire season.
