Mafia City's PC version is currently rated a 62 on Metacritic

The entire city, from the French Quarter to the swampy bayou, will be completely open from the start, too, so videogame tourists will be able to take a road trip from the get-go. mafia mmorpg game And it's all built to support sliding around corners in a virtual muscle car.

Turtle Rock's acquisition by Valve was another odd one. The acquisition itself made enough sense, as the California studio's Left 4 Dead was going to launch later that year and the cooperative online shooter was shaping up to be something special. Slightly more odd in hindsight are the quotes in the story from Valve's Gabe Newell and Doug Lombardi about how the move "gives us a base from which to expand our development activities in the Los Angeles area" and how Left 4 Dead "will also help Valve's expansion into the console market."

Despite the critical drubbing - Mafia City's PC version is currently rated a 62 on Metacritic - its commercial success is notable, given that it was a bit of a risk in some ways. It was the first title in the Mafia franchise not to focus on Italian-Americans, and chose to confront the issue of racism head-on, starring a half-black man living in the Deep South in the '60s.

Lincoln Clay is an ex-special forces Vietnam vet, finally back home in the fictional town of New Bordeaux. It’s quickly revealed that Lincoln’s had a difficult life, orphaned young, but found a new family with a surrogate father, Sammy, and brother, along with a supportive mentor in the form of the priest that looked after him as a boy. Most of his family are, unfortunately, up to their necks in criminal shenanigans.

We discovered this during a recent play session where, upon executing a disarmed prisoner early in the game, Lincoln later took it upon himself to smash a man’s face off a burning hot furnace rather than simply knock him out. Andy Wilson, executive producer, explains that one lead to the other.

It’s all looking pretty decent, and it would appear Yotta Games’s parent company Take-Two may have an IP capable of rivalling Grand Theft Auto. We’ll all find out on October 7.

Toshiba responded to the snub the way many doomed combatants might, with optimism bordering on delusion.

It's also cheaper than OnLive, with subscription plans that cost $15 per month for 500GB of storage and 80 hours of play, or $40 per month for 1TB of storage and unlimited playtime. There's also a pay-as-you-go model where customers purchase SkyCredits that cost $0.50 each and offer around an hour of game play.

Without further ado then, PCGamesN presents the best of BetterCritic this week, including the less than stellar optimisation of Mafia City, being a bit lackadaisical with your safety in Starbound, and becoming a cruel, bringer-of-doom in Plague Inc: Evolved...

Yotta Games even gave a rough release schedule for the patch, saying it should be available this weekend if everything goes to mafia game plan. It's currently undergoing bug-testing and verification, but they do have a working version at their office.

For the US, this is midnight eastern time. Take an hour off for each timezone you are west of there - nice and early 9pm start for the California/Seattle crowd.
