Top Storylines In 2019 Training Camp: The Battle For The Starting RG PositionNew Caleb Benenoch Jersey ,8commentsWho will prevail? EDTIt’s no secret. The Buccaneers’ starting right guard position is up for grabs. Coaches and fans were hoping that 2018 third-round pick Alex Cappa would be able to take over after a poor 2018 performance from Caleb Benenoch, but it appears that situation hasn’t developed as hoped. So, the question is: who will win the starting right guard position during training camp? Make no mistake, there is a lot of competition. Earl Watford, a former fourth-round pick from Arizona is one of the leading contenders, but you also can’t count out players such as Evan Smith (if healthy), Josh LeRibeus, Cole Boozer, or undrafted free agent Zack Bailey - along with a couple of others. Bruce Arians even said during Thursday’s press conference that he is intrigued to see how the battle shapes up throughout camp. Let’s take a quick look at some of the candidates:G Alex Cappa: He was a 2018 third-round pick out of Humboldt State, a DII school that recently shut down it’s football program. Jason Licht was hoping to strike gold like he did with DIII and current NFL standout Ali Marpet, but Cappa’s potential path to stardom hasn’t been the same. It’s hard to for a rookie that played DII football to make a big impact in their first year, but per Jenna Laine, he still hasn’t been able to get where the coaching staff wants/needs him to be.Cappa has always been thought as a project, but he has a great opportunity that he needs to take advantage of during camp.G Earl Watford: As mentioned earlier, Arians drafted Watford when he was with the Cards in 2013. He was inactive his entire rookie year, but continued to ascend the depth chart and started 19 games during the 2016-2017 seasons before signing with the Browns in 2018. He possesses the physical tools, attitude, and knowledge of Arians’ offense, which makes him one of the top candidates for the job. If he has a good training camp then it wouldn’t be a surprise if he starts against the 49ers in Week One. C/G Evan Smith: Has been with the Bucs since 2014 and has started 28 games over the past five seasons. He swapped in and out with Benenoch last season, but wasn’t effective enough to take over the starting job. Will he be able to regain traction after his recent hip injury? C/G Josh LeRibeus: A wildcard that could potentially contend for the starting spot or at least become a valuable backup if he can stay healthy. Started three games at guard for the Saints before suffering a season-ending injury in 2018 and started 11 games for the Redskins in 2015. G/C/T Zack Bailey: An undrafted Beau Allen Jersey , dark horse candidate from the University of South Carolina, Bailey could make some noise with a strong camp. The 6-foot-5, 299-pound guard broke his leg during his final season at USCe, but has the physical tools to excel if he can get stronger and improve his balance. G Cole Boozer: Another UDFA, Boozer will enter his second season attempting to make the final 53-man roster. A strong camp will provide plenty of opportunity for him to make the roster or practice squad, at worst.<hr class="p-entry-hr" id="1ScMVD">Be sure to check back in tomorrow for live updates as we will be onsite for the first veteran-involved practice of 2019! (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are sticking with Ryan Fitzpatrick as their No. 1 quarterback.Coach Dirk Koetter said Monday that the 14th-year pro, who failed to produce a touchdown in the previous day’s 16-3 loss to Washington, will start next Sunday on the road against the New York Giants. The Bucs (3-6) have dropped six of seven games following a 2-0 start, with Fitzpatrick starting four of the losses after leading the team to surprising victories over New Orleans and Philadelphia while Jameis Winston was serving a suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.“We’re going to go with Fitz this week,” Koetter said, adding he still feels Fitzpatrick “gives us the best opportunity” to win and pull out of a tailspin that’s jeopardized the prospects of ending a long playoff drought. Also, struggling kicker Chandler Catanzaro was waived.Catanzaro was one for three on field goals against the Redskins, missing from 30 and 47 yards. In addition to being 11 of 15 through nine games, the fifth-year pro who signed as a free agent after spending last season with the New York Jets has missed four extra points.Winston, banned the first three games of the season for touching a female Uber driver inappropriately in 2016, regained his starting job for three games before being benched three weeks ago.Koetter left open the possibility of switching back to Winston after the Bucs gained 501 yards, but only scored three points against the Redskins. Fitzpatrick threw for 406 yards, but was intercepted twice and lost a fumble.Washington finished with four takeaways Kendell Beckwith Jersey , while Tampa Bay failed to force a turnover for the sixth consecutive game.“Turnovers are killing us right now. We’re minus-19 (in turnover differential), last in the league,” Koetter said. “Thirteen turnovers and no takeaways in the last four games. That’s by far the No. 1 thing that’s hurting our team.”Winston hasn’t played since throwing four interceptions during the first three quarters of a road loss at Cincinnati on Oct. 28. The fourth-year player has thrown 10 picks and lost one fumble in four games since returning from his suspension.Koetter remains optimistic that the Bucs, who haven’t made the playoffs since 2007, can turn themselves around.Winston, the first overall pick from the 2015 draft, is due to earn $20.9 million next year in the final season of the contract he signed as a rookie.Koetter said he understands the thinking that the Bucs need to find out exactly what they have in the fourth-year pro.Nevertheless, he’s sticking with Fitzpatrick for now.“We’re barely past the halfway point in the season. There’s a lot of football to be played. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that we can turn this thing and get on a little bit of a win streak,” Koetter said.“We’ve got to play better football more consistently across the board,” the coach added. “Our defense took a nice step in that direction (Sunday). I still think when we put it together on both sides of the ball we’ll be all right.”Fitzpatrick, 2-4 as the starter this season, has 2,199 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He’s turned the ball over five times the past two weeks during losses to Carolina and Washington. After Sunday’s game, the 35-year-old shrugged off a question about whether he felt he had done enough to retain the starting job.“I love playing football. That’s not something I concern myself with or care about,” said Fitzpatrick, who’s played for seven teams over 14 seasons. “If I get a chance to go out there, I try to do my best and play as hard as I can and enjoy myself.” « Allen Hurns Color Rush JerseyFallout 76 can be addictive » Weitere Artikel der Kategorie Allgemein |
